The only land he did not acquire belonged to the priests, for they had an allowance from Pharaoh. They ate from their allowance that Pharaoh gave them; therefore they did not sell their land.

So Joseph made it a law, still in effect today in the land of Egypt, that a fifth of the produce belongs to Pharaoh. Only the priests' land does not belong to Pharaoh.

“Any male among Aaron's descendants may eat it. It is a permanent portion[fn] throughout your generations from the food offerings to the LORD. Anything that touches the offerings will become holy.”

“Any male among the priests may eat it. It is to be eaten in a holy place; it is especially holy.

Joshua also set up twelve stones in the middle[fn] of the Jordan where the priests who carried the ark of the covenant were standing. The stones are still there today.

They also cast lots the same way as their relatives the descendants of Aaron did in the presence of King David, Zadok, Ahimelech, and the heads of the families of the priests and Levites ​— ​the family heads and their younger brothers alike.

Also included were plans for the divisions of the priests and the Levites; all the work of service in the LORD's house; all the articles of service of the LORD's house;

“Here are the divisions of the priests and the Levites for all the service of God's house. Every willing person of any skill will be at your disposal for the work, and the leaders and all the people are at your every command.”

Hezekiah asked the priests and Levites about the piles.

Some of the Israelites, priests, Levites, singers, gatekeepers, and temple servants accompanied him to Jerusalem in the seventh year of King Artaxerxes.

and from the priests: the descendants of Hobaiah, the descendants of Hakkoz, and the descendants of Barzillai ​— ​who had taken a wife from the daughters of Barzillai the Gileadite and who bore their name.

Some of the family heads contributed to the project. The governor gave 1,000 gold coins,[fn] 50 bowls, and 530 priestly garments to the treasury.

The rest of the people gave 20,000 gold coins, 2,000 silver minas, and 67 priestly garments.

The priests:

Jedaiah son of Joiarib, Jachin, and

Sallu, Amok, Hilkiah, Jedaiah.

These were the heads of the priests and their relatives in the days of Jeshua.

and some of the priests' sons with trumpets, and Zechariah son of Jonathan, son of Shemaiah, son of Mattaniah, son of Micaiah, son of Zaccur, son of Asaph followed

and had prepared a large room for him where they had previously stored the grain offerings, the frankincense, the articles, and the tenths of grain, new wine, and fresh oil prescribed for the Levites, singers, and gatekeepers, along with the contributions for the priests.

The words of Jeremiah, the son of Hilkiah, one of the priests living in Anathoth in the territory of Benjamin.

“At that time” ​— ​this is the LORD's declaration ​— ​“the bones of the kings of Judah, the bones of her officials, the bones of the priests, the bones of the prophets, and the bones of the residents of Jerusalem will be brought out of their graves.
