He told them, “This is what the LORD has said: ‘Tomorrow is a day of complete rest, a holy Sabbath to the LORD. Bake what you want to bake, and boil what you want to boil, and set aside everything left over to be kept until morning.' ”

“Eat it today,” Moses said, “because today is a Sabbath to the LORD. Today you won't find any in the field.

“Work may be done for six days, but on the seventh day there must be a Sabbath of complete rest, holy to the LORD. Anyone who does work on the Sabbath day must be put to death.

This fulfilled the word of the LORD through Jeremiah, and the land enjoyed its Sabbath rest all the days of the desolation until seventy years were fulfilled.

Happy is the person who does this,

the son of man who holds it fast,

who keeps the Sabbath without desecrating it,

and keeps his hand from doing any evil.

“If you keep from desecrating the Sabbath,

from doing whatever you want on my holy day;

if you call the Sabbath a delight,

and the holy day of the LORD honorable;

if you honor it, not going your own ways,

seeking your own pleasure, or talking business;[fn][fn]

I will put an end to all her celebrations:

her feasts, New Moons, and Sabbaths —

all her festivals.
