“But I will establish my covenant with you, and you will enter the ark with your sons, your wife, and your sons' wives.

“Two of everything ​— ​from the birds according to their kinds, from the livestock according to their kinds, and from the animals that crawl on the ground according to their kinds ​— ​will come to you so that you can keep them alive.

“Come out of the ark, you, your wife, your sons, and your sons' wives with you.

“Please say you're my sister so it will go well for me because of you, and my life will be spared on your account.”

So Abram said to Lot, “Please, let's not have quarreling between you and me, or between your herdsmen and my herdsmen, since we are relatives.

Now the word of the LORD came to him: “This one will not be your heir; instead, one who comes from your own body[fn] will be your heir.”

Then Sarai said to Abram, “You are responsible for my suffering![fn] I put my slave in your arms,[fn] and when she saw that she was pregnant, I became contemptible to her. May the LORD judge between me and you.”

“I will set up my covenant between me and you, and I will multiply you greatly.”

“As for me, here is my covenant with you: You will become the father of many nations.

“I will make you extremely fruitful and will make nations and kings come from you.

“Now return the man's wife, for he is a prophet, and he will pray for you and you will live. But if you do not return her, know that you will certainly die, you and all who are yours.”

And he said to Sarah, “Look, I am giving your brother one thousand pieces of silver. It is a verification of your honor[fn] to all who are with you. You are fully vindicated.”

At that time Abimelech, accompanied by Phicol the commander of his army, said to Abraham, “God is with you in everything you do.

“Listen to us, my lord. You are a prince of God[fn] among us. Bury your dead in our finest burial place.[fn] None of us will withhold from you his burial place for burying your dead.”

“My lord, listen to me. Land worth four hundred shekels of silver ​— ​what is that between you and me? Bury your dead.”

“If the woman is unwilling to follow you, then you are free from this oath to me, but don't let my son go back there.”

“He said to me, ‘The LORD before whom I have walked will send his angel with you and make your journey a success, and you will take a wife for my son from my clan and from my father's family.

“stay in this land as an alien, and I will be with you and bless you. For I will give all these lands to you and your offspring, and I will confirm the oath that I swore to your father Abraham.

and the LORD appeared to him that night and said, “I am the God of your father Abraham. Do not be afraid, for I am with you. I will bless you and multiply your offspring because of my servant Abraham.”

They replied, “We have clearly seen how the LORD has been with you. We think there should be an oath between two parties ​— ​between us and you. Let us make a covenant with you:

“until your brother's rage turns away from you and he forgets what you have done to him. Then I will send for you and bring you back from there. Why should I lose you both in one day? ”

“Look, I am with you and will watch over you wherever you go. I will bring you back to this land, for I will not leave you until I have done what I have promised you.”

But Leah replied to her, “Isn't it enough that you have taken my husband? Now you also want to take my son's mandrakes? ”

“Well then,” Rachel said, “he can sleep with you tonight in exchange for your son's mandrakes.”

The LORD said to him, “Go back to the land of your ancestors and to your family, and I will be with you.”

“I am the God of Bethel, where you poured oil on the stone marker and made a solemn vow to me. Get up, leave this land, and return to your native land.' ”

“I've been with you these twenty years. Your ewes and female goats have not miscarried, and I have not eaten the rams from your flock.

“Come now, let's make a covenant, you and I. Let it be a witness between the two of us.”

Then Jacob said to his relatives, “Gather stones.” And they took stones and made a mound, then ate there by the mound.

Then Laban said, “This mound is a witness between you and me today.” Therefore the place was called Galeed

Esau said, “Let me leave some of my people with you.”

But he replied, “Why do that? Please indulge me,[fn] my lord.”

God also said to him, “I am God Almighty. Be fruitful and multiply. A nation, indeed an assembly of nations, will come from you, and kings will descend from you.[fn]

“No one in this house is greater than I am. He has withheld nothing from me except you, because you are his wife. So how could I do this immense evil, and how could I sin against God? ”

Then she told him the same story: “The Hebrew slave you brought to us came to make a fool of me,

“In just three days Pharaoh will lift up your head ​— ​from off you ​— ​and hang you on a tree.[fn] Then the birds will eat the flesh from your body.”[fn]

Pharaoh said to Joseph, “I have had a dream, and no one can interpret it. But I have heard it said about you that you can hear a dream and interpret it.”

Pharaoh said to Joseph, “I am Pharaoh and no one will be able to raise his hand or foot in all the land of Egypt without your permission.”

“I will go down with you to Egypt, and I will also bring you back. Joseph will close your eyes when you die.”[fn]

He answered, “I will certainly be with you, and this will be the sign to you that I am the one who sent you: when you bring the people out of Egypt, you will all worship[fn] God at this mountain.”

Moses said to Pharaoh, “You may have the honor of choosing. When should I appeal on behalf of you, your officials, and your people, that the frogs be taken away from you and your houses, and remain only in the Nile? ”

“the frogs will go away from you, your houses, your officials, and your people. The frogs will remain only in the Nile.”

“I will make a distinction[fn] between my people and your people. This sign will take place tomorrow.”

“As soon as I leave you,” Moses said, “I will appeal to the LORD, and tomorrow the swarms of flies will depart from Pharaoh, his officials, and his people. But Pharaoh must not act deceptively again by refusing to let the people go and sacrifice to the LORD.”

“You will certainly wear out both yourself and these people who are with you, because the task is too heavy for you. You can't do it alone.

“They should judge the people at all times. Then they can bring you every major case but judge every minor case themselves. In this way you will lighten your load,[fn] and they will bear it with you.

And the LORD replied to him, “Go down and come back with Aaron. But the priests and the people must not break through to come up to the LORD, or he will break out in anger against them.”

“I will send hornets[fn] in front of you, and they will drive the Hivites, Canaanites, and Hethites away from you.

“I will drive them out little by little ahead of you until you have become numerous[fn] and take possession of the land.

“Go up to a land flowing with milk and honey. But I will not go up with you because you are a stiff-necked people; otherwise, I might destroy you on the way.”

“No one may go up with you; in fact, no one should be seen anywhere on the mountain. Even the flocks and herds are not to graze in front of that mountain.”

“You and your sons are not to drink wine or beer when you enter the tent of meeting, or else you will die; this is a permanent statute throughout your generations.

“But you and your sons and your daughters may eat the breast of the presentation offering and the thigh of the contribution in any ceremonially clean place, because these portions have been assigned to you and your children from the Israelites' fellowship sacrifices.

“If your brother becomes destitute and sells part of his property, his nearest relative may come and redeem what his brother has sold.

“If your brother becomes destitute and cannot sustain himself among[fn] you, you are to support him as an alien or temporary resident, so that he can continue to live among you.

“The priest will require the woman to take an oath and will say to her, ‘If no man has slept with you, if you have not gone astray and become defiled while under your husband's authority, be unaffected by this bitter water that brings a curse.

The LORD answered Moses, “Bring me seventy men from Israel known to you as elders and officers of the people. Take them to the tent of meeting and have them stand there with you.

“He has brought you near, and all your fellow Levites who are with you, but you are pursuing the priesthood as well.

“But also bring your relatives with you from the tribe of Levi, your ancestral tribe, so they may join you and assist you and your sons in front of the tent of the testimony.

“But you and your sons will carry out your priestly responsibilities for everything concerning the altar and for what is inside the curtain, and you will do that work. I am giving you the work of the priesthood as a gift,[fn] but an unauthorized person who comes near the sanctuary will be put to death.”

“The contribution of their gifts also belongs to you. I have given all the Israelites' presentation offerings to you and to your sons and daughters as a permanent statute. Every ceremonially clean person in your house may eat it.

“I give to you and to your sons and daughters all the holy contributions that the Israelites present to the LORD as a permanent statute. It is a permanent covenant of salt before the LORD for you as well as your offspring.”

The people then came to Moses and said, “We have sinned by speaking against the LORD and against you. Intercede with the LORD so that he will take the snakes away from us.” And Moses interceded for the people.

“For the LORD your God has blessed you in all the work of your hands. He has watched over your journey through this immense wilderness. The LORD your God has been with you these past forty years, and you have lacked nothing.'

“The LORD will remove all sickness from you; he will not put on you all the terrible diseases of Egypt that you know about, but he will inflict them on all who hate you.

“The LORD your God will also send hornets against them until all the survivors and those hiding from you perish.

“Your clothing did not wear out, and your feet did not swell these forty years.

“And now, Israel, what does the LORD your God ask of you except to fear the LORD your God by walking in all his ways, to love him, and to worship the LORD your God with all your heart and all your soul?

“any of the gods of the peoples around you, near you or far from you, from one end of the earth to the other ​— ​

“But if the distance is too great for you to carry it, since the place where the LORD your God chooses to put his name is too far away from you and since the LORD your God has blessed you,

“Do not neglect the Levite within your city gates, since he has no portion or inheritance among you.

“Then the Levite, who has no portion or inheritance among you, the resident alien, the fatherless, and the widow within your city gates may come, eat, and be satisfied. And the LORD your God will bless you in all the work of your hands that you do.

“When the LORD your God blesses you as he has promised you, you will lend to many nations but not borrow; you will rule many nations, but they will not rule you.

“Be careful that there isn't this wicked thought in your heart, ‘The seventh year, the year of canceling debts, is near,' and you are stingy toward your poor brother and give him nothing. He will cry out to the LORD against you, and you will be guilty.

“If your fellow Hebrew, a man or woman, is sold to you and serves you six years, you must set him free in the seventh year.

“But if your slave says to you, ‘I don't want to leave you,' because he loves you and your family, and is well off with you,

“Do not regard it as a hardship[fn] when you set him free, because he worked for you six years ​— ​worth twice the wages of a hired worker. Then the LORD your God will bless you in everything you do.

“If a case is too difficult for you ​— ​concerning bloodshed, lawsuits, or assaults ​— ​cases disputed at your city gates, then go up to the place the LORD your God chooses.

“Everyone who does these acts is detestable to the LORD, and the LORD your God is driving out the nations before you because of these detestable acts.

“When you go out to war against your enemies and see horses, chariots, and an army larger than yours, do not be afraid of them, for the LORD your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, is with you.

“This is how you are to treat all the cities that are far away from you and are not among the cities of these nations.

“If your brother does not live near you or you don't know him, you are to bring the animal to your home to remain with you until your brother comes looking for it; then you can return it to him.

“For the LORD your God walks throughout your camp to protect you and deliver your enemies to you; so your encampments must be holy. He must not see anything indecent among you or he will turn away from you.

“Let him live among you wherever he wants within your city gates. Do not mistreat him.

“If you make a vow to the LORD your God, do not be slow to keep it, because he will require it of you, and it will be counted against you as sin.

“You are to pay him his wages each day before the sun sets, because he is poor and depends on them. Otherwise he will cry out to the LORD against you, and you will be held guilty.

“The LORD will open for you his abundant storehouse, the sky, to give your land rain in its season and to bless all the work of your hands. You will lend to many nations, but you will not borrow.

“Your ox will be slaughtered before your eyes, but you will not eat any of it. Your donkey will be taken away from you and not returned to you. Your flock will be given to your enemies, and no one will help you.

“This command that I give you today is certainly not too difficult or beyond your reach.

“The LORD is the one who will go before you. He will be with you; he will not leave you or abandon you. Do not be afraid or discouraged.”

The LORD commissioned Joshua son of Nun, “Be strong and courageous, for you will bring the Israelites into the land I swore to them, and I will be with you.”

“No one will be able to stand against you as long as you live. I will be with you, just as I was with Moses. I will not leave you or abandon you.

“Haven't I commanded you: be strong and courageous? Do not be afraid or discouraged, for the LORD your God is with you wherever you go.”

“We will obey you, just as we obeyed Moses in everything. Certainly the LORD your God will be with you, as he was with Moses.

“If anyone goes out the doors of your house, his death will be his own fault, and we will be innocent. But if anyone with you in the house should be harmed, his death will be our fault.

The LORD spoke to Joshua: “Today I will begin to exalt you in the sight of all Israel, so they will know that I will be with you just as I was with Moses.

The LORD said to Joshua, “Do not be afraid or discouraged. Take all the troops with you and go attack Ai. Look, I have handed over to you the king of Ai, his people, city, and land.

Joshua summoned the Gibeonites and said to them, “Why did you deceive us by telling us you live far away from us, when in fact you live among us?

The descendants of Judah approached Joshua at Gilgal, and Caleb son of Jephunneh the Kenizzite said to him, “You know what the LORD promised Moses the man of God at Kadesh-barnea about you and me.

Judah said to his brother Simeon, “Come with me to my allotted territory, and let's fight against the Canaanites. I will also go with you to your allotted territory.” So Simeon went with him.

The spies saw a man coming out of the town and said to him, “Please show us how to get into town, and we will show you kindness.”

“I will gladly go with you,” she said, “but you will receive no honor on the road you are about to take, because the LORD will sell Sisera to a woman.” So Deborah got up and went with Barak to Kedesh.

Then the angel of the LORD appeared to him and said, “The LORD is with you, valiant warrior.”

“But I will be with you,” the LORD said to him. “You will strike Midian down as if it were one man.”

The LORD said to Gideon, “You have too many troops for me to hand the Midianites over to them, or else Israel might elevate themselves over me and say,[fn] ‘I saved myself.'

Then the LORD said to Gideon, “There are still too many troops. Take them down to the water, and I will test them for you there. If I say to you, ‘This one can go with you,' he can go. But if I say about anyone, ‘This one cannot go with you,' he cannot go.”

“Now tonight, you and the troops with you, come and wait in ambush in the countryside.

“The LORD God of Israel has now driven out the Amorites before his people Israel, and will you now force us out?

When he saw her, he tore his clothes and said, “No! Not my daughter! You have devastated me! You have brought great misery on me.[fn] I have given my word to the LORD and cannot take it back.”

The men of Ephraim were called together and crossed the Jordan to Zaphon. They said to Jephthah, “Why have you crossed over to fight against the Ammonites but didn't call us to go with you? We will burn your house with you in it! ”

There is no one holy like the LORD.

There is no one besides you!

And there is no rock like our God.

Even before the fat was burned, the priest's servant would come and say to the one who was sacrificing, “Give the priest some meat to roast, because he won't accept boiled meat from you ​— ​only raw.”

“When these signs have happened to you, do whatever your circumstances require[fn] because God is with you.

His armor-bearer responded, “Do what is in your heart. Go ahead! I'm completely with you.”

Samuel replied to Saul, “I will not return with you. Because you rejected the word of the LORD, the LORD has rejected you from being king over Israel.”

Then David said, “The LORD who rescued me from the paw of the lion and the paw of the bear will rescue me from the hand of this Philistine.”

Saul said to David, “Go, and may the LORD be with you.”

“Today, the LORD will hand you over to me. Today, I'll strike you down, remove your head, and give the corpses[fn] of the Philistine camp to the birds of the sky and the wild creatures of the earth. Then all the world will know that Israel has a God,

“I'll go out and stand beside my father in the field where you are and talk to him about you. When I see what he says, I'll tell you.”

“If my father intends to bring evil on you, may the LORD punish Jonathan and do so severely if I do not tell you and send you away so you may leave safely. May the LORD be with you, just as he was with my father.

“Then I will send a servant and say, ‘Go and find the arrows! ' Now, if I expressly say to the servant, ‘Look, the arrows are on this side of you ​— ​get them,' then come, because as the LORD lives, it is safe for you and there is no problem.

He came to the location of the arrow that Jonathan had shot, but Jonathan called to him and said, “The arrow is beyond you, isn't it? ”

Jonathan then said to David, “Go in the assurance the two of us pledged in the name of the LORD when we said, ‘The LORD will be a witness between you and me and between my offspring and your offspring forever.' ” Then David left, and Jonathan went into the city.

David went to the priest Ahimelech at Nob. Ahimelech was afraid to meet David, so he said to him, “Why are you alone and no one is with you? ”

“May the LORD judge between me and you, and may the LORD take vengeance on you for me, but my hand will never be against you.

“May the LORD be judge and decide between you and me. May he take notice and plead my case and deliver[fn] me from you.”

Then David asked Ahimelech the Hethite and Joab's brother Abishai son of Zeruiah, “Who will go with me into the camp to Saul? ”

“I'll go with you,” answered Abishai.

Now David said to Achish, “If I have found favor with you, let me be given a place in one of the outlying towns, so I can live there. Why should your servant live in the royal city with you? ”

Samuel answered, “Since the LORD has turned away from you and has become your enemy, why are you asking me?

“The LORD will also hand Israel over to the Philistines along with you. Tomorrow you and your sons will be with me,[fn] and the LORD will hand Israel's army over to the Philistines.”

So Achish summoned David and told him, “As the LORD lives, you are an honorable man. I think it is good[fn] to have you fighting[fn] in this unit with me, because I have found no fault in you from the day you came to me until today. But the leaders don't think you are reliable.

“So get up early in the morning, you and your masters' servants who came with you.[fn] When you've all gotten up early, go as soon as it's light.”

For David had said to the Amalekite, “Your blood is on your own head because your own mouth testified against you by saying, ‘I killed the LORD's anointed.' ”

Abner sent messengers as his representatives to say to David, “Whose land is it? Make your covenant with me, and you can be certain I am on your side to turn all Israel over to you.”

Abner said to David, “Let me now go and I will gather all Israel to my lord the king. They will make a covenant with you, and you will reign over all you desire.” So David dismissed Abner, and he went in peace.

So Nathan told the king, “Go and do all that is on your mind, for the LORD is with you.”

“I have been with you wherever you have gone, and I have destroyed all your enemies before you. I will make a great name for you like that of the greatest on the earth.

This is why you are great, Lord GOD. There is no one like you, and there is no God besides you, as all we have heard confirms.

“Don't be afraid,” David said to him, “since I intend to show you kindness for the sake of your father Jonathan. I will restore to you all your grandfather Saul's fields, and you will always eat meals at my table.”

“Where could I ever go with my humiliation? And you ​— ​you would be like one of the outrageous fools in Israel! Please, speak to the king, for he won't keep me from you.”

Her brother Absalom said to her, “Has your brother Amnon been with you? Be quiet for now, my sister. He is your brother. Don't take this thing to heart.” So Tamar lived as a desolate woman in the house of her brother Absalom.

“If not,” Absalom said, “please let my brother Amnon go with us.”

The king asked him, “Why should he go with you? ”

The king told the woman, “Go home. I will issue a command on your behalf.”

“Your servant thought: May the word of my lord the king bring relief, for my lord the king is able to discern the good and the bad like the angel of God. May the LORD your God be with you.”

The king asked, “Did Joab put you up to[fn] all this? ”

The woman answered. “As you live, my lord the king, no one can turn to the right or left from all my lord the king says. Yes, your servant Joab is the one who gave orders to me; he told your servant exactly what to say.[fn]

“Besides, you only arrived yesterday; should I make you wander around with us today while I go wherever I can? Go back and take your brothers with you. May the LORD show you[fn] kindness and faithfulness.”

“Won't the priests Zadok and Abiathar be there with you? Report everything you hear from the palace to the priests Zadok and Abiathar.

Ahithophel replied to Absalom, “Sleep with your father's concubines whom he left to take care of the palace. When all Israel hears that you have become repulsive to your father, everyone with you will be encouraged.”[fn]

The king was deeply moved and went up to the chamber above the city gate and wept. As he walked, he cried, “My son Absalom! My son, my son Absalom! If only I had died instead of you, Absalom, my son, my son! ”

“Now get up! Go out and encourage[fn] your soldiers, for I swear by the LORD that if you don't go out, not a man will remain with you tonight. This will be worse for you than all the trouble that has come to you from your youth until now! ”

Araunah said, “Why has my lord the king come to his servant? ”

David replied, “To buy the threshing floor from you in order to build an altar to the LORD, so the plague on the people may be halted.”

The king answered Araunah, “No, I insist on buying it from you for a price, for I will not offer to the LORD my God burnt offerings that cost me nothing.” David bought the threshing floor and the oxen for twenty ounces[fn] of silver.

“Keep an eye on Shimei son of Gera, the Benjaminite from Bahurim who is with you. He uttered malicious curses against me the day I went to Mahanaim. But he came down to meet me at the Jordan River, and I swore to him by the LORD, ‘I will never kill you with the sword.'

“So now I have just one request of you; don't turn me down.”[fn]

She said to him, “Go on.”

Then she said, “I have just one small request of you. Don't turn me down.”

“Go ahead and ask, mother,” the king replied, “for I won't turn you down.”

“So why have you not kept the LORD's oath and the command that I gave you? ”

And Solomon replied, “You have shown great and faithful love to your servant, my father David, because he walked before you in faithfulness, righteousness, and integrity.[fn] You have continued this great and faithful love for him by giving him a son to sit on his throne, as it is today.

“So I plan to build a temple for the name of the LORD my God, according to what the LORD promised my father David: ‘I will put your son on your throne in your place, and he will build the temple for my name.'

Then the LORD said to Solomon, “Since you have done this[fn] and did not keep my covenant and my statutes, which I commanded you, I will tear the kingdom away from you and give it to your servant.

“ ‘After that, if you obey all I command you, walk in my ways, and do what is right in my sight in order to keep my statutes and my commands as my servant David did, I will be with you. I will build you a lasting dynasty just as I built for David, and I will give you Israel.

But the man of God replied, “If you were to give me half your house, I still wouldn't go with you, and I wouldn't eat food or drink water in this place,

But he answered, “I cannot go back with you or accompany you; I will not eat food or drink water with you in this place.

“There is a treaty between me and you, between my father and your father. Look, I have sent you a gift of silver and gold. Go and break your treaty with King Baasha of Israel so that he will withdraw from me.”

But when I leave you, the Spirit of the LORD may carry you off to some place I don't know. Then when I go report to Ahab and he doesn't find you, he will kill me. But I, your servant, have feared the LORD from my youth.

Then the angel of the LORD returned for a second time and touched him. He said, “Get up and eat, or the journey will be too much for you.”

“You are to anoint Jehu son of Nimshi as king over Israel and Elisha son of Shaphat from Abel-meholah as prophet in your place.

“Raise another army for yourself like the army you lost ​— ​horse for horse, chariot for chariot ​— ​and let's fight with them on the plain; and we will certainly be stronger than they are.” The king listened to them and did it.

When they had crossed over, Elijah said to Elisha, “Tell me what I can do for you before I am taken from you.”

So Elisha answered, “Please, let me inherit two shares of your spirit.”

“Then go in and shut the door behind you and your sons, and pour oil into all these containers. Set the full ones to one side.”

“And my heart didn't go[fn] when the man got down from his chariot to meet you,” Elisha said. “Is this a time to accept silver and clothing, olive orchards and vineyards, flocks and herds, and male and female slaves?

“You have indeed defeated Edom, and you have become overconfident.[fn] Enjoy your glory and stay at home. Why should you stir up such trouble that you fall ​— ​you and Judah with you? ”

The king had heard concerning King Tirhakah of Cush, “Look, he has set out to fight against you.” So he again sent messengers to Hezekiah, saying,

“‘Some of your descendants ​— ​who come from you, whom you father ​— ​will be taken away, and they will become eunuchs[fn] in the palace of the king of Babylon.' ”

So Nathan told David, “Do all that is on your mind, for God is with you.”

“I have been with you wherever you have gone, and I have destroyed all your enemies before you. I will make a name for you like that of the greatest on the earth.

LORD, there is no one like you, and there is no God besides you, as all we have heard confirms.

“Now, my son, may the LORD be with you, and may you succeed in building the house of the LORD your God, as he said about you.

“You also have many workers: stonecutters, masons, carpenters, and people skilled in every kind of work

Then David said to his son Solomon, “Be strong and courageous, and do the work. Don't be afraid or discouraged, for the LORD God, my God, is with you. He won't leave you or abandon you until all the work for the service of the LORD's house is finished.

Riches and honor come from you, and you are the ruler of everything. Power and might are in your hand, and it is in your hand to make great and to give strength to all.

“There's a treaty between me and you, between my father and your father. Look, I have sent you silver and gold. Go break your treaty with Israel's King Baasha so that he will withdraw from me.”

“For the eyes of the LORD roam throughout the earth to show himself strong for those who are wholeheartedly devoted to him. You have been foolish in this matter. Therefore, you will have wars from now on.”

for Israel's King Ahab asked Judah's King Jehoshaphat, “Will you go with me to Ramoth-gilead? ”

He replied to him, “I am as you are, my people as your people; we will be with you in the battle.”

However, a man of God came to him and said, “King, do not let Israel's army go with you, for the LORD is not with Israel ​— ​all the Ephraimites.

“You have said, ‘Look, I[fn] have defeated Edom,' and you have become overconfident[fn] that you will get glory. Now stay at home. Why stir up such trouble so that you fall and Judah with you? ”

Let it be known to the king that the Jews who came from you have returned to us at Jerusalem. They are rebuilding that rebellious and evil city, finishing its walls, and repairing its foundations.

I issue a decree that any of the Israelites in my kingdom, including their priests and Levites, who want to go to Jerusalem, may go with you.

“Get up, for this matter is your responsibility, and we support you. Be strong and take action! ”

You sent your good Spirit to instruct them.

You did not withhold your manna from their mouths,

and you gave them water for their thirst.

But they were disobedient and rebelled against you.

They flung your law behind their backs

and killed your prophets

who warned them

in order to turn them back to you.

They committed terrible blasphemies.

But if only God would speak

and open his lips against you!

if there is iniquity in your hand, remove it,

and don't allow injustice to dwell in your tents —

With whom did you speak these words?

Whose breath came out of your mouth?

Should God repay you on your terms

when you have rejected his?

You must choose, not I!

So declare what you know.

Look at the heavens and see;

gaze at the clouds high above you.

You whose clothes get hot

when the south wind brings calm to the land,

Have you ever in your life commanded the morning

or assigned the dawn its place,

Will he make a covenant with you

so that you can take him as a slave forever?

I will give praise in the great assembly

because of you;

I will fulfill my vows

before those who fear you.[fn]

Lord, my every desire is in front of you;

my sighing is not hidden from you.

“Now, Lord, what do I wait for?

My hope is in you.

Because of you we are being put to death all day long;

we are counted as sheep to be slaughtered.

God, you know my foolishness,

and my guilty acts are not hidden from you.

For I have endured insults because of you,

and shame has covered my face.

Yet I am always with you;

you hold my right hand.

Who do I have in heaven but you?

And I desire nothing on earth but you.

Those far from you will certainly perish;

you destroy all who are unfaithful to you.

Then we will not turn away from you;

revive us, and we will call on your name.

For they have conspired with one mind;

they form an alliance[fn] against you —

Happy are the people whose strength is in you,

whose hearts are set on pilgrimage.

Glorious things are said about you,

city of God.Selah

For he will give his angels orders concerning you,

to protect you in all your ways.

Your people will volunteer

on your day of battle.[fn]

In holy splendor, from the womb of the dawn,

the dew of your youth belongs to you.[fn]

Because of my brothers and friends,

I will say, “May peace be in you.”[fn]

even the darkness is not dark to you.

The night shines like the day;

darkness and light are alike to you.

My bones were not hidden from you

when I was made in secret,

when I was formed in the depths of the earth.

If I counted them,

they would outnumber the grains of sand;

when I wake up,[fn] I am still with you.

Don't let your mouth speak dishonestly,

and don't let your lips talk deviously.

When you walk here and there, they will guide you;

when you lie down, they will watch over you;

when you wake up, they will talk to you.

for their Redeemer is strong,

and he will champion their cause against you.

Be wise, my son, and bring my heart joy,

so that I can answer anyone who taunts me.

Two things I ask of you;

don't deny them to me before I die:

Where has your love gone,

most beautiful of women?

Which way has he[fn] turned?

We will seek him with you.

“I will turn my hand against you

and will burn away your dross completely;[fn]

I will remove all your impurities.

“For Aram, along with Ephraim and the son of Remaliah, has plotted harm against you. They say,

On that day

his burden will fall from your shoulders,

and his yoke from your neck.

The yoke will be broken because your neck will be too large.[fn]

LORD our God, lords other than you have owned[fn] us,

but we remember your name alone.

Your dead will live; their bodies[fn] will rise.

Awake and sing, you who dwell in the dust!

For you will be covered with the morning dew,[fn]

and the earth will bring out the departed spirits.

Do not fear, for I am with you;

do not be afraid, for I am your God.

I will strengthen you; I will help you;

I will hold on to you with my righteous right hand.

“When you pass through the waters,

I will be with you,

and the rivers will not overwhelm you.

When you walk through the fire,

you will not be scorched,

and the flame will not burn you.

This is what the LORD says:

“The products of Egypt and the merchandise of Cush

and the Sabeans, men of stature,

will come over to you

and will be yours;

they will follow you,

they will come over in chains

and bow down to you.

They will confess[fn] to you,

‘God is indeed with you, and there is no other;

there is no other God.' ”

“Your nakedness will be uncovered,

and your disgrace will be exposed.

I will take vengeance;

I will spare no one.”[fn]

“Your builders[fn] hurry;

those who destroy and devastate you will leave you.

“For your waste and desolate places

and your land marked by ruins

will now be indeed too small for the inhabitants,

and those who swallowed you up will be far away.

“Wake up, wake up;

put on your strength, Zion!

Put on your beautiful garments,

Jerusalem, the holy city!

For the uncircumcised and the unclean

will no longer enter you.

“In a surge of anger

I hid my face from you for a moment,

but I will have compassion on you

with everlasting love,”

says the LORD your Redeemer.

You have set up your memorial

behind the door and doorpost.

For away from me, you stripped,

went up, and made your bed wide,

and you have made a bargain[fn] for yourself with them.

You have loved their bed;

you have gazed on their genitals.[fn][fn]

“At that time, when you call, the LORD will answer;

when you cry out, he will say, ‘Here I am.'

If you get rid of the yoke among you,

the finger-pointing and malicious speaking,

“The LORD will always lead you,

satisfy you in a parched land,

and strengthen your bones.

You will be like a watered garden

and like a spring whose water never runs dry.

For as a young man marries a young woman,

so your sons will marry you;

and as a groom rejoices over his bride,

so your God will rejoice over you.

We have become like those you never ruled,

like those who did not bear your name.

When you did awesome works

that we did not expect,

you came down,

and the mountains quaked at your presence.

Do not be afraid of anyone,

for I will be with you to rescue you.

This is the LORD's declaration.

“Now, get ready. Stand up and tell them everything that I command you. Do not be intimidated by them or I will cause you to cower before them.

“They will fight against you but never prevail over you, since I am with you to rescue you.”

This is the LORD's declaration.

Be warned, Jerusalem,

or I will turn away from you;

I will make you a desolation,

a land without inhabitants.

“What right does my beloved have

to be in my house,

having carried out so many evil schemes?

Can holy meat[fn] prevent your disaster[fn]

so you can celebrate?

But, LORD of Armies, who judges righteously,

who tests heart[fn] and mind,

let me see your vengeance on them,

for I have presented my case to you.

If you have raced with runners

and they have worn you out,

how can you compete with horses?

If you stumble[fn] in a peaceful land,

what will you do in the thickets of the Jordan?

Though our iniquities testify against us,

LORD, act for your name's sake.

Indeed, our rebellions are many;

we have sinned against you.

You know, LORD;

remember me and take note of me.

Avenge me against my persecutors.

In your patience,[fn] don't take me away.

Know that I suffer disgrace for your honor.

Then I will make you a fortified wall of bronze

to this people.

They will fight against you

but will not overcome you,

for I am with you

to save you and rescue you.

This is the LORD's declaration.

“Then you are to shatter the jar in the presence of the people going with you,

LORD of Armies, testing the righteous

and seeing the heart[fn] and mind,

let me see your vengeance on them,

for I have presented my case to you.

“Oh, Lord GOD! You yourself made the heavens and earth by your great power and with your outstretched arm. Nothing is too difficult for you!

“‘All the women[fn] who remain in the palace of Judah's king will be brought out to the officials of the king of Babylon and will say to you,[fn]

“Your trusted friends[fn] misled[fn] you

and overcame you.

Your feet sank into the mire,

and they deserted you.”

And you, my servant Jacob, do not be afraid —

this is the LORD's declaration —

for I will be with you.

I will bring destruction on all the nations

where I have banished you,

but I will not bring destruction on you.

I will discipline you with justice,

and I will by no means leave you unpunished.

You are my war club,

my weapons of war.

With you I will smash nations;

with you I will bring kingdoms to ruin.

No one will be able to retrieve a cornerstone

or a foundation stone from you,

because you will become desolate forever.

This is the LORD's declaration.

Next he said to me, “Son of man, listen carefully to all my words that I speak to you and take them to heart.

“Take an iron plate and set it up as an iron wall between yourself and the city. Face it so that it is under siege, and besiege it. This will be a sign for the house of Israel.

“ ‘Then I passed by you and saw you, and you were indeed at the age for love. So I spread the edge of my garment over you and covered your nakedness. I pledged myself to you, entered into a covenant with you ​— ​this is the declaration of the Lord GOD ​— ​and you became mine.

“So you were the opposite of other women in your acts of prostitution; no one solicited you. When you paid a fee instead of one being paid to you, you were the opposite.

“So I will satisfy my wrath against you, and my jealousy will turn away from you. Then I will be calm and no longer angry.

“ ‘Look, everyone who uses proverbs will quote this proverb about you: “Like mother, like daughter.”

“But I will remember the covenant I made with you in the days of your youth, and I will establish a permanent covenant with you.

“I will establish my covenant with you, and you will know that I am the LORD,

“and say to it, ‘This is what the LORD says: I am against you. I will draw my sword from its sheath and cut off from you both the righteous and the wicked.

“Those who are near and those far away from you will mock you, you infamous one full of turmoil.

“I will disperse you among the nations and scatter you among the countries; I will purge your uncleanness.

“When I vent my jealous fury on you, they will deal with you in wrath. They will cut off your nose and ears, and the rest of you[fn] will fall by the sword. They will seize your sons and daughters, and the rest of you will be consumed by fire.

“So I will put an end to your depravity and sexual immorality, which began in the land of Egypt, and you will not look longingly at them or remember Egypt anymore.

“Son of man, I am about to take the delight of your eyes away from you with a fatal blow. But you must not lament or weep or let your tears flow.

“ ‘Therefore, this is what the Lord GOD says: I am going to bring a sword against you and cut off both people and animals from you.

“I will abandon you on the land

and throw you onto the open field.

I will cause all the birds of the sky

to settle on you

and let the wild creatures of the entire earth

eat their fill of you.

“I will drench the land

with the flow of your blood,

even to the mountains;

the ravines will be filled with your gore.

“As for you, son of man, your people are talking about you near the city walls and in the doorways of their houses. One person speaks to another, each saying to his brother, ‘Come and hear what the message is that comes from the LORD! '

“Gomer with all its troops; and Beth-togarmah from the remotest parts of the north along with all its troops ​— ​many peoples are with you.

“You, all of your troops, and many peoples with you will advance, coming like a thunderstorm; you will be like a cloud covering the land.

“and come from your place in the remotest parts of the north ​— ​you and many peoples with you, who are all riding horses ​— ​a huge assembly, a powerful army?

“You, all your troops, and the peoples who are with you will fall on the mountains of Israel. I will give you as food to every kind of predatory bird and to the wild animals.

The LORD said to me, “Son of man, pay attention; look with your eyes and listen with your ears to everything I tell you about all the statutes and laws of the LORD's temple. Take careful note of the entrance of the temple along with all the exits of the sanctuary.

I offer thanks and praise to you,

God of my ancestors,

because you have given me

wisdom and power.

And now you have let me know

what we asked of you,

for you have let us know

the king's mystery.[fn]

While the words were still in the king's mouth, a voice came from heaven: “King Nebuchadnezzar, to you it is declared that the kingdom has departed from you.

“I've heard that you have a spirit of the gods in you, and that insight, intelligence, and extraordinary wisdom are found in you.

“However, I have heard about you that you can give interpretations and solve problems. Therefore, if you can read this inscription and give me its interpretation, you will be clothed in purple, have a gold chain around your neck, and have the third highest position in the kingdom.”

“All the administrators of the kingdom ​— ​the prefects, satraps, advisers, and governors ​— ​have agreed that the king should establish an ordinance and enforce an edict that, for thirty days, anyone who petitions any god or man except you, the king, will be thrown into the lions' den.

So they approached the king and asked about his edict: “Didn't you sign an edict that for thirty days any person who petitions any god or man except you, the king, will be thrown into the lions' den? ”

The king answered, “As a law of the Medes and Persians, the order stands[fn] and is irrevocable.”

“My God sent his angel and shut the lions' mouths; and they haven't harmed me, for I was found innocent before him. And also before you, Your Majesty, I have not done harm.”

You will stumble by day;

the prophet will also stumble with you by night.

And I will destroy your mother.

Therefore, the Lord GOD says:

An enemy will surround the land;

he will destroy your strongholds

and plunder your citadels.

Amaziah the priest of Bethel sent word to King Jeroboam of Israel, saying, “Amos has conspired against you right here in the house of Israel. The land cannot endure all his words,

Shave yourselves bald and cut off your hair

in sorrow for your precious children;

make yourselves as bald as an eagle,

for they have been taken from you into exile.

Bethlehem Ephrathah,

you are small among the clans of Judah;

one will come from you

to be ruler over Israel for me.

His origin[fn] is from antiquity,

from ancient times.

My people,

remember what King Balak of Moab proposed,

what Balaam son of Beor answered him,

and what happened from the Acacia Grove[fn] to Gilgal

so that you may acknowledge

the LORD's righteous acts.

Mankind, he has told each of you what is good

and what it is the LORD requires of you:

to act justly,

to love faithfulness,

and to walk humbly with your God.

They will lick the dust like a snake;

they will come trembling out of their hiding places

like reptiles slithering on the ground.

They will tremble in the presence of the LORD our God;

they will stand in awe of you.

One has gone out from you,[fn]

who plots evil against the LORD,

and is a wicked counselor.

For I will now break off his yoke from you

and tear off your shackles.

Then all who see you will recoil from you, saying,

“Nineveh is devastated;

who will show sympathy to her? ”

Where can I find anyone to comfort you?

On that day you[fn] will not be put to shame

because of everything you have done

in rebelling against me.

For then I will remove

from among you your jubilant, arrogant people,

and you will never again be haughty

on my holy mountain.

Yes, at that time

I will deal with all who oppress you.

I will save the lame and gather the outcasts;

I will make those who were disgraced

throughout the earth

receive praise and fame.

The LORD of Armies says this: “In those days, ten men from nations of every language will grab the robe of a Jewish man tightly, urging: Let us go with you, for we have heard that God is with you.”

And you ask, “Why? ” Because even though the LORD has been a witness between you and the wife of your youth, you have acted treacherously against her. She was your marriage partner and your wife by covenant.

“Your words against me are harsh,” says the LORD.

Yet you ask, “What have we spoken against you? ”

They said to her, “We insist on returning with you to your people.”

Where you die, I will die,

and there I will be buried.

May the LORD punish me,

and do so severely,

if anything but death separates you and me.

“I thought I should inform you: Buy it back in the presence of those seated here and in the presence of the elders of my people. If you want to redeem it, do it. But if you do[fn] not want to redeem it, tell me so that I will know, because there isn't anyone other than you to redeem it, and I am next after you.”

“I want to redeem it,” he answered.
