It was this Aaron and Moses whom the LORD told, “Bring the Israelites out of the land of Egypt according to their military divisions.”
“Pharaoh will not listen to you, but I will put my hand into Egypt and bring the military divisions of my people the Israelites out of the land of Egypt by great acts of judgment.
Moses replied, “We will go with our young and with our old; we will go with our sons and with our daughters, with our flocks and with our herds because we must hold the LORD's festival.”
“Do not eat any of it raw or cooked in boiling[fn] water, but only roasted over fire — its head as well as its legs and inner organs.
On that same day the LORD brought the Israelites out of the land of Egypt according to their military divisions.
When Pharaoh's horses with his chariots and horsemen went into the sea, the LORD brought the water of the sea back over them. But the Israelites walked through the sea on dry ground.
“This is what the LORD has commanded: ‘Gather as much of it as each person needs to eat. You may take two quarts[fn] per individual, according to the number of people each of you has in his tent.' ”
“Cut the ram into pieces. Wash its entrails and legs, and place them with its head and its pieces on the altar.
They hammered out thin sheets of gold, and he[fn] cut threads from them to interweave with the blue, purple, and scarlet yarn, and the fine linen in a skillful design.
The Israelites set out whenever the cloud was taken up from the tabernacle throughout all the stages of their journey.
“He will remove its digestive tract,[fn] cutting off the tail feathers, and throw it on the east side of the altar at the place for ashes.
“and bring it to Aaron's sons the priests. The priest will take a handful of fine flour and oil from it, along with all its frankincense, and will burn this memorial portion of it on the altar, a food offering, a pleasing aroma to the LORD.
“The priest will then burn some of its crushed kernels and oil with all its frankincense as a food offering to the LORD.
“and the two kidneys with the fat on them at the loins; he will also remove the fatty lobe of the liver with the kidneys.
“He will then present part of the fellowship sacrifice as a food offering to the LORD consisting of its fat and the entire fat tail, which he is to remove close to the backbone. He will also remove the fat surrounding the entrails, all the fat on the entrails,
“the two kidneys with the fat on them at the loins, and the fatty lobe of the liver above the kidneys.
“and the two kidneys with the fat on them at the loins; he will also remove the fatty lobe of the liver with the kidneys.

“But the hide of the bull and all its flesh, with its head and legs, and its entrails and waste —
“The priest is to remove a handful of fine flour and olive oil from the grain offering, with all the frankincense that is on the offering, and burn its memorial portion on the altar as a pleasing aroma to the LORD.
“and the two kidneys with the fat on them at the loins; he will also remove the fatty lobe of the liver with the kidneys.
“one as a sin offering and the other as a burnt offering, sacrificing what he can afford together with the grain offering. In this way the priest will make atonement before the LORD for the one to be cleansed.
“You and Aaron are to register those who are twenty years old or more by their military divisions — everyone who can serve in Israel's army.[fn]
So all the Israelites twenty years old or more, everyone who could serve in Israel's army, were registered by their ancestral families.
“The Israelites are to camp by their military divisions, each man with his encampment and under his banner.
“Judah's military divisions will camp on the east side toward the sunrise under their banner. The leader of the descendants of Judah is Nahshon son of Amminadab.
“The total number in their military divisions who belong to Judah's encampment is 186,400; they will move out first.
“Reuben's military divisions will camp on the south side under their banner. The leader of the Reubenites is Elizur son of Shedeur.
“The total number in their military divisions who belong to Reuben's encampment is 151,450; they will move out second.
“Ephraim's military divisions will camp on the west side under their banner. The leader of the Ephraimites is Elishama son of Ammihud.
“The total in their military divisions who belong to Ephraim's encampment number 108,100; they will move out third.
“Dan's military divisions will camp on the north side under their banner. The leader of the Danites is Ahiezer son of Ammishaddai.
These are the Israelites registered by their ancestral families. The total number in the camps by their military divisions is 603,550.
The Israelites traveled on from the Wilderness of Sinai, moving from one place to the next until the cloud stopped in the Wilderness of Paran.
The military divisions of the camp of Judah's descendants with their banner set out first, and Nahshon son of Amminadab was over their divisions.
The military divisions of the camp of Reuben with their banner set out, and Elizur son of Shedeur was over their divisions.
Next the military divisions of the camp of Ephraim's descendants with their banner set out, and Elishama son of Ammihud was over their divisions.
The military divisions of the camp of Dan's descendants with their banner set out, serving as rear guard for all the camps, and Ahiezer son of Ammishaddai was over their divisions.
This was the order of march for the Israelites by their military divisions as they set out.
“The cow is to be burned in his sight. Its hide, flesh, and blood are to be burned along with its waste.
Moses sent one thousand from each tribe to war. They went with Phinehas son of Eleazar the priest, in whose care were the holy objects and signal trumpets.
Along with the others slain by them, they killed the Midianite kings — Evi, Rekem, Zur, Hur, and Reba, the five kings of Midian. They also killed Balaam son of Beor with the sword.
So Moses gave them — the Gadites, Reubenites, and half the tribe of Manasseh son of Joseph — the kingdom of King Sihon of the Amorites and the kingdom of King Og of Bashan, the land including its cities with the territories surrounding them.
These were the stages of the Israelites' journey when they went out of the land of Egypt by their military divisions under the leadership of Moses and Aaron.
“Command the Israelites and say to them: When you enter the land of Canaan, it will be allotted to you as an inheritance[fn] with these borders:
“Outside, the sword will take their children,
and inside, there will be terror;
the young man and the young woman will be killed,
the infant and the gray-haired man.
They burned the city and everything in it, but they put the silver and gold and the articles of bronze and iron into the treasury of the LORD's house.
At that time Joshua proceeded to exterminate the Anakim from the hill country — Hebron, Debir, Anab — all the hill country of Judah and of Israel. Joshua completely destroyed them with their cities.
They gave to the descendants of the priest Aaron:
Hebron, the city of refuge for the one who commits manslaughter, with its pasturelands, Libnah with its pasturelands,
After he arrived, he sounded the ram's horn throughout the hill country of Ephraim. The Israelites came down with him from the hill country, and he became their leader.
Gaal son of Ebed said, “Who is Abimelech and who is Shechem that we should serve him? Isn't he the son of Jerubbaal, and isn't Zebul his officer? You are to serve the men of Hamor, the father of Shechem. Why should we serve Abimelech?
But Samson stayed in bed only until midnight. Then he got up, took hold of the doors of the city gate along with the two gateposts, and pulled them out, bar and all. He put them on his shoulders and took them to the top of the mountain overlooking Hebron.
She fastened the braids with a pin and called to him, “Samson, the Philistines are here! ” He awoke from his sleep and pulled out the pin, with the loom and the web.
After they were some distance from Micah's house, the men who were in the houses near it were mustered and caught up with the Danites.
All the Benjaminites who died that day were twenty-five thousand armed men; all were warriors.
Then Samuel took a young lamb and offered it as a whole burnt offering to the LORD. He cried out to the LORD on behalf of Israel, and the LORD answered him.
they rushed to the plunder, took sheep, goats, cattle, and calves, slaughtered them on the ground, and ate meat with the blood still in it.
Some reported to Saul, “Look, the troops are sinning against the LORD by eating meat with the blood still in it.”
Saul said, “You have been unfaithful. Roll a large stone over here at once.”
He then said, “Go among the troops and say to them, ‘Let each man bring me his ox or his sheep. Do the slaughtering here and then you can eat. Don't sin against the LORD by eating meat with the blood in it.' ” So every one of the troops brought his ox that night and slaughtered it there.
and brought it with the ark of God from Abinadab's house on the hill. Ahio walked in front of the ark.
Let the sea and all that fills it resound;
let the fields and everything in them exult.
So the couriers went throughout Israel and Judah with letters from the hand of the king and his officials, and according to the king's command, saying, “Israelites, return to the LORD, the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Israel so that he may return to those of you who remain, who have escaped the grasp of the kings of Assyria.
During the time of King Artaxerxes of Persia, Bishlam, Mithredath, Tabeel and the rest of his colleagues wrote to King Artaxerxes. The letter was written in Aramaic and translated.[fn]
Each[fn] day, one ox, six choice sheep, and some fowl were prepared for me. An abundance of all kinds of wine was provided every ten days. But I didn't demand the food allotted to the governor, because the burden on the people was so heavy.
His wife Zeresh and all his friends told him, “Have them build a gallows seventy-five feet[fn] tall. Ask the king in the morning to hang Mordecai on it. Then go to the banquet with the king and enjoy yourself.” The advice pleased Haman, so he had the gallows constructed.
He will pray to God, and God will delight in him.
That person will see his face with a shout of joy,
and God will restore his righteousness to him.
When the ram's horn blasts, he snorts defiantly.[fn]
He smells the battle from a distance;
he hears the officers' shouts and the battle cry.
Do not let my heart turn to any evil thing
or perform wicked acts with evildoers.
Do not let me feast on their delicacies.
for destruction will come suddenly from them;
who knows what distress these two can bring?
I have seen all the things that are done under the sun and have found everything to be futile, a pursuit of the wind.[fn]
Therefore, I hated life because the work that was done under the sun was distressing to me. For everything is futile and a pursuit of the wind.
I hated all my work that I labored at under the sun because I must leave it to the one who comes after me.
I said to myself, “God will judge the righteous and the wicked, since there is a time for every activity and every work.”
Again, I observed all the acts of oppression being done under the sun. Look at the tears of those who are oppressed; they have no one to comfort them. Power is with those who oppress them; they have no one to comfort them.
So I commended the dead, who have already died, more than the living, who are still alive.
But better than either of them is the one who has not yet existed, who has not seen the evil activity that is done under the sun.
I saw that all labor and all skillful work is due to one person's jealousy of another. This too is futile and a pursuit of the wind.[fn]
I saw all the living, who move about under the sun, follow[fn] a second youth who succeeds him.
When you make a vow to God, don't delay fulfilling it, because he does not delight in fools. Fulfill what you vow.
In the day of prosperity be joyful, but in the day of adversity, consider: God has made the one as well as the other, so that no one can discover anything that will come after him.
In my futile life[fn] I have seen everything: someone righteous perishes in spite of his righteousness, and someone wicked lives long in spite of his evil.
And I find more bitter than death the woman who is a trap: her heart a net and her hands chains. The one who pleases God will escape her, but the sinner will be captured by her.
“Only see this: I have discovered that God made people upright, but they pursued many schemes.”
No one has authority over the wind[fn] to restrain it, and there is no authority over the day of death; no one is discharged during battle, and wickedness will not allow those who practice it to escape.
All this I have seen, applying my mind to all the work that is done under the sun, at a time when one person has authority over another to his harm.
So I commended enjoyment because there is nothing better for a person under the sun than to eat, drink, and enjoy himself, for this will accompany him in his labor during the days of his life that God gives him under the sun.
I observed all the work of God and concluded that a person is unable to discover the work that is done under the sun. Even though a person labors hard to explore it, he cannot find it; even if a wise person claims to know it, he is unable to discover it.
Indeed, I took all this to heart and explained it all: The righteous, the wise, and their works are in God's hands. People don't know whether to expect love or hate. Everything lies ahead of them.
Now a poor wise man was found in the city, and he delivered the city by his wisdom. Yet no one remembered that poor man.
A feast is prepared for laughter,
and wine makes life happy,
and money[fn] is the answer for everything.
Do not curse the king even in your thoughts,
and do not curse a rich person even in your bedroom,
for a bird of the sky may carry the message,
and a winged creature may report the matter.
Just as you don't know the path of the wind,
or how bones develop in[fn] the womb of a pregnant woman,
so also you don't know the work of God who makes everything.
In addition to the Teacher being a wise man, he constantly taught the people knowledge; he weighed, explored, and arranged many proverbs.
For God will bring every act to judgment, including every hidden thing, whether good or evil.
He is clearing the thickets of the forest with an ax,
and Lebanon with its majesty will fall.
Woe to Ariel,[fn] Ariel,
the city where David camped!
Continue year after year;
let the festivals recur.
“for this is what the LORD says, ‘I am about to make you a terror to both yourself and those you love. They will fall by the sword of their enemies before your very eyes. I will hand Judah over to the king of Babylon, and he will deport them to Babylon and put them to the sword.
But Ishmael son of Nethaniah escaped from Johanan with eight men and went to the Ammonites.
Wherever the Spirit wanted to go, the creatures went in the direction the Spirit was moving. The wheels rose alongside them, for the spirit of the living creatures was in the wheels.
When the creatures moved, the wheels moved; when the creatures stopped, the wheels stopped; and when the creatures rose from the earth, the wheels rose alongside them, for the spirit of the living creatures was in the wheels.
“Then say to the people of the land, ‘This is what the Lord GOD says about the residents of Jerusalem in the land of Israel: They will eat their bread with anxiety and drink their water in dread, for their[fn][fn] land will be stripped of everything in it because of the violence of all who live there.
“I am therefore going to gather all the lovers you pleased — all those you loved as well as all those you hated. I will gather them against you from all around and expose your nakedness to them so they see you completely naked.
“Then you will remember your ways and be ashamed when you[fn] receive your older and younger sisters. I will give them to you as daughters, but not because of your covenant.
“ ‘But there was another huge eagle with powerful wings and thick plumage. And this vine bent its roots toward him! It stretched out its branches to him from the plot where it was planted, so that he might water it.
“Even though it is planted, will it flourish? Won't it wither completely when the east wind strikes it? It will wither on the plot where it sprouted.' ”
“When I make the land of Egypt a desolation,
so that it is emptied of everything in it,
when I strike down all who live there,
then they will know that I am the LORD.
“All the leaders of the north
and all the Sidonians are there.
They went down in shame with the slain,
despite the terror their strength inspired.
They lie down uncircumcised
with those slain by the sword.
They bear their disgrace
with those who descend to the Pit.
So these men, in their trousers, robes, head coverings,[fn] and other clothes, were tied up and thrown into the furnace of blazing fire.
For this reason the land mourns,
and everyone who lives in it languishes,
along with the wild animals and the birds of the sky;
even the fish of the sea disappear.
The Lord GOD has sworn by himself — this is the declaration of the LORD, the God of Armies:
I loathe Jacob's pride
and hate his citadels,
so I will hand over the city and everything in it.
I will indeed gather all of you, Jacob;
I will collect the remnant of Israel.
I will bring them together like sheep in a pen,
like a flock in the middle of its pasture.
It will be noisy with people.
