and Jacob fathered Joseph the husband of Mary,

who gave birth to Jesus who is called the Messiah.

Then he gave the disciples orders to tell no one that he was[fn] the Messiah.

“You are not to be called instructors either, because you have one Instructor, the Messiah.

“For many will come in my name, saying, ‘I am the Messiah,' and they will deceive many.

“If anyone tells you then, ‘See, here is the Messiah! ' or, ‘Over here! ' do not believe it.

“But you,” he asked them, “who do you say that I am? ”

Peter answered him, “You are the Messiah.”

“Then if anyone tells you, ‘See, here is the Messiah! See, there! ' do not believe it.

Now the people were waiting expectantly, and all of them were questioning in their hearts whether John might be the Messiah.

They said, “If you are the Messiah, tell us.”

But he said to them, “If I do tell you, you will not believe.

Then one of the criminals hanging there began to yell insults at[fn] him: “Aren't you the Messiah? Save yourself and us! ”

He didn't deny it but confessed, “I am not the Messiah.”

He first found his own brother Simon and told him, “We have found the Messiah”[fn] (which is translated “the Christ”),

“You yourselves can testify that I said, ‘I am not the Messiah, but I've been sent ahead of him.'

The woman said to him, “I know that the Messiah is coming” (who is called Christ). “When he comes, he will explain everything to us.”

“Come, see a man who told me everything I ever did. Could this be the Messiah? ”

“Yet, look, he's speaking publicly and they're saying nothing to him. Can it be true that the authorities know he is the Messiah?

Others said, “This is the Messiah.” But some said, “Surely the Messiah doesn't come from Galilee, does he?

The Jews surrounded him and asked, “How long are you going to keep us in suspense?[fn] If you are the Messiah, tell us plainly.”[fn]

But Saul grew stronger and kept confounding the Jews who lived in Damascus by proving that Jesus is the Messiah.

Peter said to him, “Aeneas, Jesus Christ heals you. Get up and make your bed,”[fn] and immediately he got up.

explaining and proving that it was necessary for the Messiah to suffer and rise from the dead: “This Jesus I am proclaiming to you is the Messiah.”

“that the Messiah would suffer, and that, as the first to rise from the dead, he would proclaim light to our people and to the Gentiles.”

My aim is to preach the gospel where Christ has not been named, so that I will not build on someone else's foundation,

Is Christ divided? Was Paul crucified for you? Or were you baptized in Paul's name?

For no one can lay any foundation other than what has been laid down. That foundation is Jesus Christ.

Clean out the old leaven so that you may be a new unleavened batch, as indeed you are. For Christ our Passover lamb has been sacrificed.[fn]

yet for us there is one God, the Father. All things are from him, and we exist for him. And there is one Lord, Jesus Christ. All things are through him, and we exist through him.

and all drank the same spiritual drink. For they drank from the spiritual rock that followed them, and that rock was Christ.

But I want you to know that Christ is the head of every man, and the man is the head of the woman,[fn] and God is the head of Christ.

For just as the body is one and has many parts, and all the parts of that body, though many, are one body ​— ​so also is Christ.

But each in his own order: Christ, the firstfruits; afterward, at his coming, those who belong to Christ.

I have been crucified with Christ, and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I now live in the body,[fn] I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.

Now the promises were spoken to Abraham and to his seed. He does not say “and to seeds,” as though referring to many, but referring to one, and to your seed, who is Christ.

But speaking the truth in love, let us grow in every way into him who is the head ​— ​Christ.

for what makes everything visible is light. Therefore it is said:

Get up, sleeper, and rise up from the dead,

and Christ will shine on you.

So if you have been raised with Christ, seek the things above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God.

In Christ there is not Greek and Jew, circumcision and uncircumcision, barbarian, Scythian, slave and free; but Christ is all and in all.

For Christ did not enter a sanctuary made with hands (only a model[fn] of the true one) but into heaven itself, so that he might now appear in the presence of God for us.

so also Christ, having been offered once to bear the sins of many, will appear a second time, not to bear sin, but[fn] to bring salvation to those who are waiting for him.

Who is the liar, if not the one who denies that Jesus is the Christ? This one is the antichrist: the one who denies the Father and the Son.

Jesus Christ ​— ​he is the one who came by water and blood, not by water only, but by water and by blood. And the Spirit is the one who testifies, because the Spirit is the truth.
