There was also a prophetess, Anna, a daughter of Phanuel, of the tribe of Asher. She was well along in years, having lived with her husband seven years after her marriage,[fn]
“But I say to you, there were certainly many widows in Israel in Elijah's days, when the sky was shut up for three years and six months while a great famine came over all the land.
“Then I'll say to myself, “You have many goods stored up for many years. Take it easy; eat, drink, and enjoy yourself.” '
“He told the vineyard worker, ‘Listen, for three years I have come looking for fruit on this fig tree and haven't found any. Cut it down! Why should it even waste the soil? '
“Satan has bound this woman, a daughter of Abraham, for eighteen years — shouldn't she be untied from this bondage[fn] on the Sabbath day? ”
“But he replied to his father, ‘Look, I have been slaving many years for you, and I have never disobeyed your orders, yet you never gave me a goat so that I could celebrate with my friends.
“God spoke in this way: His descendants would be strangers in a foreign country, and they would enslave and oppress them for four hundred years.
“God turned away and gave them up to worship the stars of heaven, as it is written in the book of the prophets:
House of Israel, did you bring me offerings and sacrifices
for forty years in the wilderness?
“Then they asked for a king, and God gave them Saul the son of Kish, a man of the tribe of Benjamin, for forty years.
This went on for two years, so that all the residents of Asia, both Jews and Greeks, heard the word of the Lord.
Then after three years I did go up to Jerusalem to get to know Cephas,[fn] and I stayed with him fifteen days.
My point is this: The law, which came 430 years later, does not invalidate a covenant previously established by God[fn] and thus cancel the promise.
With whom was God angry for forty years? Wasn't it with those who sinned, whose bodies fell in the wilderness?
He seized the dragon, that ancient serpent who is the devil and Satan,[fn] and bound him for a thousand years.
Then I saw thrones, and people seated on them who were given authority to judge. I also saw the souls of those who had been beheaded because of their testimony about Jesus and because of the word of God, who had not worshiped the beast or his image, and who had not accepted the mark on their foreheads or their hands. They came to life and reigned with Christ for a thousand years.
Just then, a woman who had suffered from bleeding for twelve years approached from behind and touched the end of his robe,
“This man led them out and performed wonders and signs in the land of Egypt, at the Red Sea, and in the wilderness for forty years.
you will roll them up like a cloak,[fn]
and they will be changed like clothing.
But you are the same,
and your years will never end.
Dear friends, don't overlook this one fact: With the Lord one day is like a thousand years, and a thousand years like one day.
He threw him into the abyss, closed it, and put a seal on it so that he would no longer deceive the nations until the thousand years were completed. After that, he must be released for a short time.
The rest of the dead did not come to life until the thousand years were completed.
This is the first resurrection.
