Unchecked Copy BoxJhn 9:19 - They asked them, “Is this your son? Was he born blind? If so, how can he now see?”
Unchecked Copy BoxJhn 9:24 - So for the second time they called in the man who had been blind and told him, “God should get the glory for this,[fn] because we know this man Jesus is a sinner.”
Unchecked Copy BoxJhn 9:25 - “I don't know whether he is a sinner,” the man replied. “But I know this: I was blind, and now I can see!”
Unchecked Copy BoxJhn 9:28 - Then they cursed him and said, “You are his disciple, but we are disciples of Moses!
Unchecked Copy BoxJhn 9:41 - “If you were blind, you wouldn't be guilty,” Jesus replied. “But you remain guilty because you claim you can see.
Unchecked Copy BoxJhn 10:7 - so he explained it to them: “I tell you the truth, I am the gate for the sheep.
Unchecked Copy BoxJhn 10:19 - When he said these things, the people[fn] were again divided in their opinions about him.
Unchecked Copy BoxJhn 10:24 - The people surrounded him and asked, “How long are you going to keep us in suspense? If you are the Messiah, tell us plainly.”
Unchecked Copy BoxJhn 10:31 - Once again the people picked up stones to kill him.
Unchecked Copy BoxJhn 10:39 - Once again they tried to arrest him, but he got away and left them.
Unchecked Copy BoxJhn 11:3 - So the two sisters sent a message to Jesus telling him, “Lord, your dear friend is very sick.”
Unchecked Copy BoxJhn 11:6 - he stayed where he was for the next two days.
Unchecked Copy BoxJhn 11:12 - The disciples said, “Lord, if he is sleeping, he will soon get better!”
Unchecked Copy BoxJhn 11:14 - So he told them plainly, “Lazarus is dead.
Unchecked Copy BoxJhn 11:16 - Thomas, nicknamed the Twin,[fn] said to his fellow disciples, “Let's go, too—and die with Jesus.”
Unchecked Copy BoxJhn 11:17 - When Jesus arrived at Bethany, he was told that Lazarus had already been in his grave for four days.
Unchecked Copy BoxJhn 11:20 - When Martha got word that Jesus was coming, she went to meet him. But Mary stayed in the house.
Unchecked Copy BoxJhn 11:21 - Martha said to Jesus, “Lord, if only you had been here, my brother would not have died.
Unchecked Copy BoxJhn 11:31 - When the people who were at the house consoling Mary saw her leave so hastily, they assumed she was going to Lazarus's grave to weep. So they followed her there.
Unchecked Copy BoxJhn 11:32 - When Mary arrived and saw Jesus, she fell at his feet and said, “Lord, if only you had been here, my brother would not have died.”
Unchecked Copy BoxJhn 11:33 - When Jesus saw her weeping and saw the other people wailing with her, a deep anger welled up within him,[fn] and he was deeply troubled.
Unchecked Copy BoxJhn 11:36 - The people who were standing nearby said, “See how much he loved him!”
Unchecked Copy BoxJhn 11:38 - Jesus was still angry as he arrived at the tomb, a cave with a stone rolled across its entrance.
Unchecked Copy BoxJhn 11:41 - So they rolled the stone aside. Then Jesus looked up to heaven and said, “Father, thank you for hearing me.
Unchecked Copy BoxJhn 11:45 - Many of the people who were with Mary believed in Jesus when they saw this happen.
Unchecked Copy BoxJhn 11:47 - Then the leading priests and Pharisees called the high council[fn] together. “What are we going to do?” they asked each other. “This man certainly performs many miraculous signs.
Unchecked Copy BoxJhn 11:53 - So from that time on, the Jewish leaders began to plot Jesus' death.
Unchecked Copy BoxJhn 11:54 - As a result, Jesus stopped his public ministry among the people and left Jerusalem. He went to a place near the wilderness, to the village of Ephraim, and stayed there with his disciples.
Unchecked Copy BoxJhn 11:56 - They kept looking for Jesus, but as they stood around in the Temple, they said to each other, “What do you think? He won't come for Passover, will he?”
Unchecked Copy BoxJhn 12:1 - Six days before the Passover celebration began, Jesus arrived in Bethany, the home of Lazarus—the man he had raised from the dead.
Unchecked Copy BoxJhn 12:2 - A dinner was prepared in Jesus' honor. Martha served, and Lazarus was among those who ate[fn] with him.
Unchecked Copy BoxJhn 12:3 - Then Mary took a twelve-ounce jar[fn] of expensive perfume made from essence of nard, and she anointed Jesus' feet with it, wiping his feet with her hair. The house was filled with the fragrance.
Unchecked Copy BoxJhn 12:4 - But Judas Iscariot, the disciple who would soon betray him, said,
Unchecked Copy BoxJhn 12:7 - Jesus replied, “Leave her alone. She did this in preparation for my burial.
Unchecked Copy BoxJhn 12:9 - When all the people[fn] heard of Jesus' arrival, they flocked to see him and also to see Lazarus, the man Jesus had raised from the dead.
Unchecked Copy BoxJhn 12:17 - Many in the crowd had seen Jesus call Lazarus from the tomb, raising him from the dead, and they were telling others[fn] about it.
Unchecked Copy BoxJhn 12:19 - Then the Pharisees said to each other, “There's nothing we can do. Look, everyone[fn] has gone after him!”
Unchecked Copy BoxJhn 12:21 - paid a visit to Philip, who was from Bethsaida in Galilee. They said, “Sir, we want to meet Jesus.”
Unchecked Copy BoxJhn 12:28 - Father, bring glory to your name.”
Then a voice spoke from heaven, saying, “I have already brought glory to my name, and I will do so again.”
Unchecked Copy BoxJhn 12:29 - When the crowd heard the voice, some thought it was thunder, while others declared an angel had spoken to him.
Unchecked Copy BoxJhn 12:35 - Jesus replied, “My light will shine for you just a little longer. Walk in the light while you can, so the darkness will not overtake you. Those who walk in the darkness cannot see where they are going.
Unchecked Copy BoxJhn 12:50 - And I know his commands lead to eternal life; so I say whatever the Father tells me to say.”
Unchecked Copy BoxJhn 13:6 - When Jesus came to Simon Peter, Peter said to him, “Lord, are you going to wash my feet?”
Unchecked Copy BoxJhn 13:12 - After washing their feet, he put on his robe again and sat down and asked, “Do you understand what I was doing?
Unchecked Copy BoxJhn 13:14 - And since I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you ought to wash each other's feet.
Unchecked Copy BoxJhn 13:22 - The disciples looked at each other, wondering whom he could mean.
Unchecked Copy BoxJhn 13:24 - Simon Peter motioned to him to ask, “Who's he talking about?”
Unchecked Copy BoxJhn 13:27 - When Judas had eaten the bread, Satan entered into him. Then Jesus told him, “Hurry and do what you're going to do.”
Unchecked Copy BoxJhn 13:30 - So Judas left at once, going out into the night.
Unchecked Copy BoxJhn 16:17 - Some of the disciples asked each other, “What does he mean when he says, ‘In a little while you won't see me, but then you will see me,' and ‘I am going to the Father'?
Unchecked Copy BoxJhn 16:18 - And what does he mean by ‘a little while'? We don't understand.”
Unchecked Copy BoxJhn 16:19 - Jesus realized they wanted to ask him about it, so he said, “Are you asking yourselves what I meant? I said in a little while you won't see me, but a little while after that you will see me again.
Unchecked Copy BoxJhn 16:22 - So you have sorrow now, but I will see you again; then you will rejoice, and no one can rob you of that joy.
Unchecked Copy BoxJhn 18:3 - The leading priests and Pharisees had given Judas a contingent of Roman soldiers and Temple guards to accompany him. Now with blazing torches, lanterns, and weapons, they arrived at the olive grove.
Unchecked Copy BoxJhn 18:4 - Jesus fully realized all that was going to happen to him, so he stepped forward to meet them. “Who are you looking for?” he asked.
Unchecked Copy BoxJhn 18:6 - As Jesus said “I AM he,” they all drew back and fell to the ground!
Unchecked Copy BoxJhn 18:7 - Once more he asked them, “Who are you looking for?”
And again they replied, “Jesus the Nazarene.”
Unchecked Copy BoxJhn 18:8 - “I told you that I AM he,” Jesus said. “And since I am the one you want, let these others go.”
Unchecked Copy BoxJhn 18:10 - Then Simon Peter drew a sword and slashed off the right ear of Malchus, the high priest's slave.
Unchecked Copy BoxJhn 18:11 - But Jesus said to Peter, “Put your sword back into its sheath. Shall I not drink from the cup of suffering the Father has given me?”
Unchecked Copy BoxJhn 18:12 - So the soldiers, their commanding officer, and the Temple guards arrested Jesus and tied him up.
Unchecked Copy BoxJhn 18:16 - Peter had to stay outside the gate. Then the disciple who knew the high priest spoke to the woman watching at the gate, and she let Peter in.
Unchecked Copy BoxJhn 18:17 - The woman asked Peter, “You're not one of that man's disciples, are you?”
“No,” he said, “I am not.”
Unchecked Copy BoxJhn 18:19 - Inside, the high priest began asking Jesus about his followers and what he had been teaching them.
Unchecked Copy BoxJhn 18:25 - Meanwhile, as Simon Peter was standing by the fire warming himself, they asked him again, “You're not one of his disciples, are you?”
He denied it, saying, “No, I am not.”
Unchecked Copy BoxJhn 18:27 - Again Peter denied it. And immediately a rooster crowed.
Unchecked Copy BoxJhn 18:28 - Jesus' trial before Caiaphas ended in the early hours of the morning. Then he was taken to the headquarters of the Roman governor.[fn] His accusers didn't go inside because it would defile them, and they wouldn't be allowed to celebrate the Passover.
Unchecked Copy BoxJhn 18:29 - So Pilate, the governor, went out to them and asked, “What is your charge against this man?”
Unchecked Copy BoxJhn 18:31 - “Then take him away and judge him by your own law,” Pilate told them.
“Only the Romans are permitted to execute someone,” the Jewish leaders replied.
Unchecked Copy BoxJhn 18:33 - Then Pilate went back into his headquarters and called for Jesus to be brought to him. “Are you the king of the Jews?” he asked him.
Unchecked Copy BoxJhn 18:37 - Pilate said, “So you are a king?”
Jesus responded, “You say I am a king. Actually, I was born and came into the world to testify to the truth. All who love the truth recognize that what I say is true.”
Unchecked Copy BoxJhn 18:39 - But you have a custom of asking me to release one prisoner each year at Passover. Would you like me to release this ‘King of the Jews'?”
Unchecked Copy BoxJhn 18:40 - But they shouted back, “No! Not this man. We want Barabbas!” (Barabbas was a revolutionary.)
Unchecked Copy BoxJhn 19:1 - Then Pilate had Jesus flogged with a lead-tipped whip.
Unchecked Copy BoxJhn 19:4 - Pilate went outside again and said to the people, “I am going to bring him out to you now, but understand clearly that I find him not guilty.”
Unchecked Copy BoxJhn 19:5 - Then Jesus came out wearing the crown of thorns and the purple robe. And Pilate said, “Look, here is the man!”
Unchecked Copy BoxJhn 19:6 - When they saw him, the leading priests and Temple guards began shouting, “Crucify him! Crucify him!”
“Take him yourselves and crucify him,” Pilate said. “I find him not guilty.”
Unchecked Copy BoxJhn 19:8 - When Pilate heard this, he was more frightened than ever.
Unchecked Copy BoxJhn 19:10 - “Why don't you talk to me?” Pilate demanded. “Don't you realize that I have the power to release you or crucify you?”
Unchecked Copy BoxJhn 19:13 - When they said this, Pilate brought Jesus out to them again. Then Pilate sat down on the judgment seat on the platform that is called the Stone Pavement (in Hebrew, Gabbatha).
Unchecked Copy BoxJhn 19:16 - Then Pilate turned Jesus over to them to be crucified. So they took Jesus away.
Unchecked Copy BoxJhn 19:20 - The place where Jesus was crucified was near the city, and the sign was written in Hebrew, Latin, and Greek, so that many people could read it.
Unchecked Copy BoxJhn 19:21 - Then the leading priests objected and said to Pilate, “Change it from ‘The King of the Jews' to ‘He said, I am King of the Jews.'”
Unchecked Copy BoxJhn 19:23 - When the soldiers had crucified Jesus, they divided his clothes among the four of them. They also took his robe, but it was seamless, woven in one piece from top to bottom.
Unchecked Copy BoxJhn 19:24 - So they said, “Rather than tearing it apart, let's throw dice[fn] for it.” This fulfilled the Scripture that says, “They divided my garments among themselves and threw dice for my clothing.”[fn] So that is what they did.
Unchecked Copy BoxJhn 19:26 - When Jesus saw his mother standing there beside the disciple he loved, he said to her, “Dear woman, here is your son.”
Unchecked Copy BoxJhn 19:29 - A jar of sour wine was sitting there, so they soaked a sponge in it, put it on a hyssop branch, and held it up to his lips.
Unchecked Copy BoxJhn 19:30 - When Jesus had tasted it, he said, “It is finished!” Then he bowed his head and released his spirit.
Unchecked Copy BoxJhn 19:31 - It was the day of preparation, and the Jewish leaders didn't want the bodies hanging there the next day, which was the Sabbath (and a very special Sabbath, because it was the Passover). So they asked Pilate to hasten their deaths by ordering that their legs be broken. Then their bodies could be taken down.
Unchecked Copy BoxJhn 19:32 - So the soldiers came and broke the legs of the two men crucified with Jesus.
Unchecked Copy BoxJhn 19:38 - Afterward Joseph of Arimathea, who had been a secret disciple of Jesus (because he feared the Jewish leaders), asked Pilate for permission to take down Jesus' body. When Pilate gave permission, Joseph came and took the body away.
Unchecked Copy BoxJhn 19:40 - Following Jewish burial custom, they wrapped Jesus' body with the spices in long sheets of linen cloth.
Unchecked Copy BoxJhn 19:42 - And so, because it was the day of preparation for the Jewish Passover[fn] and since the tomb was close at hand, they laid Jesus there.
Unchecked Copy BoxJhn 20:2 - She ran and found Simon Peter and the other disciple, the one whom Jesus loved. She said, “They have taken the Lord's body out of the tomb, and we don't know where they have put him!”
Unchecked Copy BoxJhn 20:3 - Peter and the other disciple started out for the tomb.
Unchecked Copy BoxJhn 20:6 - Then Simon Peter arrived and went inside. He also noticed the linen wrappings lying there,
Unchecked Copy BoxJhn 20:8 - Then the disciple who had reached the tomb first also went in, and he saw and believed—
Unchecked Copy BoxJhn 20:10 - Then they went home.
Unchecked Copy BoxJhn 20:11 - Mary was standing outside the tomb crying, and as she wept, she stooped and looked in.
Unchecked Copy BoxJhn 20:19 - That Sunday evening[fn] the disciples were meeting behind locked doors because they were afraid of the Jewish leaders. Suddenly, Jesus was standing there among them! “Peace be with you,” he said.
Unchecked Copy BoxJhn 20:20 - As he spoke, he showed them the wounds in his hands and his side. They were filled with joy when they saw the Lord!
Unchecked Copy BoxJhn 20:21 - Again he said, “Peace be with you. As the Father has sent me, so I am sending you.”
Unchecked Copy BoxJhn 20:25 - They told him, “We have seen the Lord!”
But he replied, “I won't believe it unless I see the nail wounds in his hands, put my fingers into them, and place my hand into the wound in his side.”
Unchecked Copy BoxJhn 20:30 - The disciples saw Jesus do many other miraculous signs in addition to the ones recorded in this book.
Unchecked Copy BoxJhn 21:5 - He called out, “Fellows,[fn] have you caught any fish?”
“No,” they replied.
Unchecked Copy BoxJhn 21:6 - Then he said, “Throw out your net on the right-hand side of the boat, and you'll get some!” So they did, and they couldn't haul in the net because there were so many fish in it.
Unchecked Copy BoxJhn 21:7 - Then the disciple Jesus loved said to Peter, “It's the Lord!” When Simon Peter heard that it was the Lord, he put on his tunic (for he had stripped for work), jumped into the water, and headed to shore.
Unchecked Copy BoxJhn 21:9 - When they got there, they found breakfast waiting for them—fish cooking over a charcoal fire, and some bread.
Unchecked Copy BoxJhn 21:13 - Then Jesus served them the bread and the fish.
Unchecked Copy BoxJhn 21:15 - After breakfast Jesus asked Simon Peter, “Simon son of John, do you love me more than these?[fn]
“Yes, Lord,” Peter replied, “you know I love you.” “Then feed my lambs,” Jesus told him.
Unchecked Copy BoxJhn 21:23 - So the rumor spread among the community of believers[fn] that this disciple wouldn't die. But that isn't what Jesus said at all. He only said, “If I want him to remain alive until I return, what is that to you?”
Unchecked Copy BoxAct 1:6 - So when the apostles were with Jesus, they kept asking him, “Lord, has the time come for you to free Israel and restore our kingdom?”
Unchecked Copy BoxAct 1:18 - (Judas had bought a field with the money he received for his treachery. Falling headfirst there, his body split open, spilling out all his intestines.
Unchecked Copy BoxAct 1:21 - “So now we must choose a replacement for Judas from among the men who were with us the entire time we were traveling with the Lord Jesus—
Unchecked Copy BoxAct 2:30 - But he was a prophet, and he knew God had promised with an oath that one of David's own descendants would sit on his throne.
Unchecked Copy BoxAct 2:33 - Now he is exalted to the place of highest honor in heaven, at God's right hand. And the Father, as he had promised, gave him the Holy Spirit to pour out upon us, just as you see and hear today.
Unchecked Copy BoxAct 2:36 - “So let everyone in Israel know for certain that God has made this Jesus, whom you crucified, to be both Lord and Messiah!”
Unchecked Copy BoxAct 2:41 - Those who believed what Peter said were baptized and added to the church that day—about 3,000 in all.
Unchecked Copy BoxAct 3:19 - Now repent of your sins and turn to God, so that your sins may be wiped away.
Unchecked Copy BoxAct 5:41 - The apostles left the high council rejoicing that God had counted them worthy to suffer disgrace for the name of Jesus.[fn]
Unchecked Copy BoxAct 6:3 - And so, brothers, select seven men who are well respected and are full of the Spirit and wisdom. We will give them this responsibility.
Unchecked Copy BoxAct 8:4 - But the believers who were scattered preached the Good News about Jesus wherever they went.
Unchecked Copy BoxAct 8:22 - Repent of your wickedness and pray to the Lord. Perhaps he will forgive your evil thoughts,
Unchecked Copy BoxAct 8:25 - After testifying and preaching the word of the Lord in Samaria, Peter and John returned to Jerusalem. And they stopped in many Samaritan villages along the way to preach the Good News.
Unchecked Copy BoxAct 9:31 - The church then had peace throughout Judea, Galilee, and Samaria, and it became stronger as the believers lived in the fear of the Lord. And with the encouragement of the Holy Spirit, it also grew in numbers.
Unchecked Copy BoxAct 10:23 - So Peter invited the men to stay for the night. The next day he went with them, accompanied by some of the brothers from Joppa.
Unchecked Copy BoxAct 10:29 - So I came without objection as soon as I was sent for. Now tell me why you sent for me.”
Unchecked Copy BoxAct 10:32 - Now send messengers to Joppa, and summon a man named Simon Peter. He is staying in the home of Simon, a tanner who lives near the seashore.'
Unchecked Copy BoxAct 10:33 - So I sent for you at once, and it was good of you to come. Now we are all here, waiting before God to hear the message the Lord has given you.”
Unchecked Copy BoxAct 11:17 - And since God gave these Gentiles the same gift he gave us when we believed in the Lord Jesus Christ, who was I to stand in God's way?”
Unchecked Copy BoxAct 11:19 - Meanwhile, the believers who had been scattered during the persecution after Stephen's death traveled as far as Phoenicia, Cyprus, and Antioch of Syria. They preached the word of God, but only to Jews.
Unchecked Copy BoxAct 12:5 - But while Peter was in prison, the church prayed very earnestly for him.
Unchecked Copy BoxAct 13:4 - So Barnabas and Saul were sent out by the Holy Spirit. They went down to the seaport of Seleucia and then sailed for the island of Cyprus.
Unchecked Copy BoxAct 13:38 - [fn]“Brothers, listen! We are here to proclaim that through this man Jesus there is forgiveness for your sins.
Unchecked Copy BoxAct 13:40 - Be careful! Don't let the prophets' words apply to you. For they said,
Unchecked Copy BoxAct 14:3 - But the apostles stayed there a long time, preaching boldly about the grace of the Lord. And the Lord proved their message was true by giving them power to do miraculous signs and wonders.
Unchecked Copy BoxAct 15:2 - Paul and Barnabas disagreed with them, arguing vehemently. Finally, the church decided to send Paul and Barnabas to Jerusalem, accompanied by some local believers, to talk to the apostles and elders about this question.
Unchecked Copy BoxAct 15:3 - The church sent the delegates to Jerusalem, and they stopped along the way in Phoenicia and Samaria to visit the believers. They told them—much to everyone's joy—that the Gentiles, too, were being converted.
Unchecked Copy BoxAct 15:10 - So why are you now challenging God by burdening the Gentile believers[fn] with a yoke that neither we nor our ancestors were able to bear?
Unchecked Copy BoxAct 15:27 - We are sending Judas and Silas to confirm what we have decided concerning your question.
Unchecked Copy BoxAct 15:30 - The messengers went at once to Antioch, where they called a general meeting of the believers and delivered the letter.
Unchecked Copy BoxAct 15:39 - Their disagreement was so sharp that they separated. Barnabas took John Mark with him and sailed for Cyprus.
Unchecked Copy BoxAct 16:5 - So the churches were strengthened in their faith and grew larger every day.
Unchecked Copy BoxAct 16:11 - We boarded a boat at Troas and sailed straight across to the island of Samothrace, and the next day we landed at Neapolis.
Unchecked Copy BoxAct 16:36 - So the jailer told Paul, “The city officials have said you and Silas are free to leave. Go in peace.”
Unchecked Copy BoxAct 17:12 - As a result, many Jews believed, as did many of the prominent Greek women and men.
Unchecked Copy BoxAct 17:17 - He went to the synagogue to reason with the Jews and the God-fearing Gentiles, and he spoke daily in the public square to all who happened to be there.
Unchecked Copy BoxAct 17:20 - “You are saying some rather strange things, and we want to know what it's all about.”
Unchecked Copy BoxAct 17:23 - for as I was walking along I saw your many shrines. And one of your altars had this inscription on it: ‘To an Unknown God.' This God, whom you worship without knowing, is the one I'm telling you about.
Unchecked Copy BoxAct 17:29 - And since this is true, we shouldn't think of God as an idol designed by craftsmen from gold or silver or stone.
Unchecked Copy BoxAct 17:30 - “God overlooked people's ignorance about these things in earlier times, but now he commands everyone everywhere to repent of their sins and turn to him.
Unchecked Copy BoxAct 18:14 - But just as Paul started to make his defense, Gallio turned to Paul's accusers and said, “Listen, you Jews, if this were a case involving some wrongdoing or a serious crime, I would have a reason to accept your case.
Unchecked Copy BoxAct 19:3 - “Then what baptism did you experience?” he asked.
And they replied, “The baptism of John.”
Unchecked Copy BoxAct 19:32 - Inside, the people were all shouting, some one thing and some another. Everything was in confusion. In fact, most of them didn't even know why they were there.
Unchecked Copy BoxAct 19:36 - Since this is an undeniable fact, you should stay calm and not do anything rash.
Unchecked Copy BoxAct 19:38 - “If Demetrius and the craftsmen have a case against them, the courts are in session and the officials can hear the case at once. Let them make formal charges.
Unchecked Copy BoxAct 20:28 - “So guard yourselves and God's people. Feed and shepherd God's flock—his church, purchased with his own blood[fn]—over which the Holy Spirit has appointed you as elders.[fn]
Unchecked Copy BoxAct 21:22 - What should we do? They will certainly hear that you have come.
Unchecked Copy BoxAct 21:23 - “Here's what we want you to do. We have four men here who have completed their vow.
Unchecked Copy BoxAct 22:29 - The soldiers who were about to interrogate Paul quickly withdrew when they heard he was a Roman citizen, and the commander was frightened because he had ordered him bound and whipped.
Unchecked Copy BoxAct 23:15 - So you and the high council should ask the commander to bring Paul back to the council again. Pretend you want to examine his case more fully. We will kill him on the way.”
Unchecked Copy BoxAct 23:18 - So the officer did, explaining, “Paul, the prisoner, called me over and asked me to bring this young man to you because he has something to tell you.”
Unchecked Copy BoxAct 23:21 - But don't do it! There are more than forty men hiding along the way ready to ambush him. They have vowed not to eat or drink anything until they have killed him. They are ready now, just waiting for your consent.”
Unchecked Copy BoxAct 23:22 - “Don't let anyone know you told me this,” the commander warned the young man.
Unchecked Copy BoxAct 23:31 - So that night, as ordered, the soldiers took Paul as far as Antipatris.
Unchecked Copy BoxAct 25:1 - Three days after Festus arrived in Caesarea to take over his new responsibilities, he left for Jerusalem,
Unchecked Copy BoxAct 25:4 - But Festus replied that Paul was at Caesarea and he himself would be returning there soon.
Unchecked Copy BoxAct 25:5 - So he said, “Those of you in authority can return with me. If Paul has done anything wrong, you can make your accusations.”
Unchecked Copy BoxAct 25:17 - “When his accusers came here for the trial, I didn't delay. I called the case the very next day and ordered Paul brought in.
Unchecked Copy BoxAct 25:23 - So the next day Agrippa and Bernice arrived at the auditorium with great pomp, accompanied by military officers and prominent men of the city. Festus ordered that Paul be brought in.
Unchecked Copy BoxAct 26:4 - “As the Jewish leaders are well aware, I was given a thorough Jewish training from my earliest childhood among my own people and in Jerusalem.
Unchecked Copy BoxAct 26:9 - “I used to believe that I ought to do everything I could to oppose the very name of Jesus the Nazarene.[fn]
Unchecked Copy BoxAct 26:22 - But God has protected me right up to this present time so I can testify to everyone, from the least to the greatest. I teach nothing except what the prophets and Moses said would happen—
Unchecked Copy BoxAct 28:5 - But Paul shook off the snake into the fire and was unharmed.
Unchecked Copy BoxAct 28:9 - Then all the other sick people on the island came and were healed.
Unchecked Copy BoxAct 28:20 - I asked you to come here today so we could get acquainted and so I could explain to you that I am bound with this chain because I believe that the hope of Israel—the Messiah—has already come.”
Unchecked Copy BoxAct 28:28 - So I want you to know that this salvation from God has also been offered to the Gentiles, and they will accept it.”[fn]
Unchecked Copy BoxRom 2:21 - Well then, if you teach others, why don't you teach yourself? You tell others not to steal, but do you steal?
Unchecked Copy BoxRom 2:26 - And if the Gentiles obey God's law, won't God declare them to be his own people?
Unchecked Copy BoxRom 3:1 - Then what's the advantage of being a Jew? Is there any value in the ceremony of circumcision?
Unchecked Copy BoxRom 3:9 - Well then, should we conclude that we Jews are better than others? No, not at all, for we have already shown that all people, whether Jews or Gentiles,[fn] are under the power of sin.
Unchecked Copy BoxRom 3:27 - Can we boast, then, that we have done anything to be accepted by God? No, because our acquittal is not based on obeying the law. It is based on faith.
Unchecked Copy BoxRom 3:28 - So we are made right with God through faith and not by obeying the law.
Unchecked Copy BoxRom 3:31 - Well then, if we emphasize faith, does this mean that we can forget about the law? Of course not! In fact, only when we have faith do we truly fulfill the law.
Unchecked Copy BoxRom 4:1 - Abraham was, humanly speaking, the founder of our Jewish nation. What did he discover about being made right with God?
Unchecked Copy BoxRom 4:9 - Now, is this blessing only for the Jews, or is it also for uncircumcised Gentiles?[fn] Well, we have been saying that Abraham was counted as righteous by God because of his faith.
Unchecked Copy BoxRom 4:10 - But how did this happen? Was he counted as righteous only after he was circumcised, or was it before he was circumcised? Clearly, God accepted Abraham before he was circumcised!
Unchecked Copy BoxRom 5:1 - Therefore, since we have been made right in God's sight by faith, we have peace with God because of what Jesus Christ our Lord has done for us.
Unchecked Copy BoxRom 5:9 - And since we have been made right in God's sight by the blood of Christ, he will certainly save us from God's condemnation.
Unchecked Copy BoxRom 5:18 - Yes, Adam's one sin brings condemnation for everyone, but Christ's one act of righteousness brings a right relationship with God and new life for everyone.
Unchecked Copy BoxRom 6:1 - Well then, should we keep on sinning so that God can show us more and more of his wonderful grace?
Unchecked Copy BoxRom 6:4 - For we died and were buried with Christ by baptism. And just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glorious power of the Father, now we also may live new lives.
Unchecked Copy BoxRom 6:12 - Do not let sin control the way you live;[fn] do not give in to sinful desires.
Unchecked Copy BoxRom 6:15 - Well then, since God's grace has set us free from the law, does that mean we can go on sinning? Of course not!
Unchecked Copy BoxRom 6:21 - And what was the result? You are now ashamed of the things you used to do, things that end in eternal doom.
Unchecked Copy BoxRom 7:3 - So while her husband is alive, she would be committing adultery if she married another man. But if her husband dies, she is free from that law and does not commit adultery when she remarries.
Unchecked Copy BoxRom 7:7 - Well then, am I suggesting that the law of God is sinful? Of course not! In fact, it was the law that showed me my sin. I would never have known that coveting is wrong if the law had not said, “You must not covet.”[fn]
Unchecked Copy BoxRom 7:13 - But how can that be? Did the law, which is good, cause my death? Of course not! Sin used what was good to bring about my condemnation to death. So we can see how terrible sin really is. It uses God's good commands for its own evil purposes.
Unchecked Copy BoxRom 7:25 - Thank God! The answer is in Jesus Christ our Lord. So you see how it is: In my mind I really want to obey God's law, but because of my sinful nature I am a slave to sin.
Unchecked Copy BoxRom 8:12 - Therefore, dear brothers and sisters,[fn] you have no obligation to do what your sinful nature urges you to do.
Unchecked Copy BoxRom 8:31 - What shall we say about such wonderful things as these? If God is for us, who can ever be against us?
Unchecked Copy BoxRom 9:14 - Are we saying, then, that God was unfair? Of course not!
Unchecked Copy BoxRom 9:16 - So it is God who decides to show mercy. We can neither choose it nor work for it.
Unchecked Copy BoxRom 9:18 - So you see, God chooses to show mercy to some, and he chooses to harden the hearts of others so they refuse to listen.
Unchecked Copy BoxRom 9:19 - Well then, you might say, “Why does God blame people for not responding? Haven't they simply done what he makes them do?”
Unchecked Copy BoxRom 9:30 - What does all this mean? Even though the Gentiles were not trying to follow God's standards, they were made right with God. And it was by faith that this took place.
Unchecked Copy BoxRom 10:14 - But how can they call on him to save them unless they believe in him? And how can they believe in him if they have never heard about him? And how can they hear about him unless someone tells them?
Unchecked Copy BoxRom 11:1 - I ask, then, has God rejected his own people, the nation of Israel? Of course not! I myself am an Israelite, a descendant of Abraham and a member of the tribe of Benjamin.
Unchecked Copy BoxRom 11:5 - It is the same today, for a few of the people of Israel[fn] have remained faithful because of God's grace—his undeserved kindness in choosing them.
Unchecked Copy BoxRom 11:7 - So this is the situation: Most of the people of Israel have not found the favor of God they are looking for so earnestly. A few have—the ones God has chosen—but the hearts of the rest were hardened.
Unchecked Copy BoxRom 11:11 - Did God's people stumble and fall beyond recovery? Of course not! They were disobedient, so God made salvation available to the Gentiles. But he wanted his own people to become jealous and claim it for themselves.
Unchecked Copy BoxRom 11:19 - “Well,” you may say, “those branches were broken off to make room for me.”
Unchecked Copy BoxRom 11:22 - Notice how God is both kind and severe. He is severe toward those who disobeyed, but kind to you if you continue to trust in his kindness. But if you stop trusting, you also will be cut off.
Unchecked Copy BoxRom 12:1 - And so, dear brothers and sisters,[fn] I plead with you to give your bodies to God because of all he has done for you. Let them be a living and holy sacrifice—the kind he will find acceptable. This is truly the way to worship him.[fn]
Unchecked Copy BoxRom 12:20 - Instead,
“If your enemies are hungry, feed them.
If they are thirsty, give them something to drink.
In doing this, you will heap
burning coals of shame on their heads.”[fn]
Unchecked Copy BoxRom 13:7 - Give to everyone what you owe them: Pay your taxes and government fees to those who collect them, and give respect and honor to those who are in authority.
Unchecked Copy BoxRom 13:10 - Love does no wrong to others, so love fulfills the requirements of God's law.
Unchecked Copy BoxRom 13:12 - The night is almost gone; the day of salvation will soon be here. So remove your dark deeds like dirty clothes, and put on the shining armor of right living.
Unchecked Copy BoxRom 14:8 - If we live, it's to honor the Lord. And if we die, it's to honor the Lord. So whether we live or die, we belong to the Lord.
Unchecked Copy BoxRom 14:12 - Yes, each of us will give a personal account to God.
Unchecked Copy BoxRom 14:13 - So let's stop condemning each other. Decide instead to live in such a way that you will not cause another believer to stumble and fall.
Unchecked Copy BoxRom 14:16 - Then you will not be criticized for doing something you believe is good.
Unchecked Copy BoxRom 14:19 - So then, let us aim for harmony in the church and try to build each other up.
Unchecked Copy BoxRom 15:17 - So I have reason to be enthusiastic about all Christ Jesus has done through me in my service to God.
Unchecked Copy BoxRom 15:28 - As soon as I have delivered this money and completed this good deed of theirs, I will come to see you on my way to Spain.
Unchecked Copy BoxRom 16:19 - But everyone knows that you are obedient to the Lord. This makes me very happy. I want you to be wise in doing right and to stay innocent of any wrong.
Unchecked Copy Box1Co 3:5 - After all, who is Apollos? Who is Paul? We are only God's servants through whom you believed the Good News. Each of us did the work the Lord gave us.
Unchecked Copy Box1Co 4:16 - So I urge you to imitate me.
Unchecked Copy Box1Co 5:7 - Get rid of the old “yeast” by removing this wicked person from among you. Then you will be like a fresh batch of dough made without yeast, which is what you really are. Christ, our Passover Lamb, has been sacrificed for us.[fn]
Unchecked Copy Box1Co 6:4 - If you have legal disputes about such matters, why go to outside judges who are not respected by the church?
Unchecked Copy Box1Co 6:7 - Even to have such lawsuits with one another is a defeat for you. Why not just accept the injustice and leave it at that? Why not let yourselves be cheated?
Unchecked Copy Box1Co 6:15 - Don't you realize that your bodies are actually parts of Christ? Should a man take his body, which is part of Christ, and join it to a prostitute? Never!
Unchecked Copy Box1Co 7:26 - Because of the present crisis,[fn] I think it is best to remain as you are.
Unchecked Copy Box1Co 8:4 - So, what about eating meat that has been offered to idols? Well, we all know that an idol is not really a god and that there is only one God.
Unchecked Copy Box1Co 9:18 - What then is my pay? It is the opportunity to preach the Good News without charging anyone. That's why I never demand my rights when I preach the Good News.
Unchecked Copy Box1Co 9:25 - All athletes are disciplined in their training. They do it to win a prize that will fade away, but we do it for an eternal prize.
Unchecked Copy Box1Co 10:19 - What am I trying to say? Am I saying that food offered to idols has some significance, or that idols are real gods?
Unchecked Copy Box1Co 10:31 - So whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God.
Unchecked Copy Box1Co 11:20 - When you meet together, you are not really interested in the Lord's Supper.
Unchecked Copy Box1Co 14:11 - But if I don't understand a language, I will be a foreigner to someone who speaks it, and the one who speaks it will be a foreigner to me.
Unchecked Copy Box1Co 14:15 - Well then, what shall I do? I will pray in the spirit,[fn] and I will also pray in words I understand. I will sing in the spirit, and I will also sing in words I understand.
Unchecked Copy Box1Co 14:23 - Even so, if unbelievers or people who don't understand these things come into your church meeting and hear everyone speaking in an unknown language, they will think you are crazy.
Unchecked Copy Box1Co 14:26 - Well, my brothers and sisters, let's summarize. When you meet together, one will sing, another will teach, another will tell some special revelation God has given, one will speak in tongues, and another will interpret what is said. But everything that is done must strengthen all of you.
Unchecked Copy Box1Co 15:11 - So it makes no difference whether I preach or they preach, for we all preach the same message you have already believed.
Unchecked Copy Box1Co 16:11 - Don't let anyone treat him with contempt. Send him on his way with your blessing when he returns to me. I expect him to come with the other believers.[fn]
Unchecked Copy Box1Co 16:18 - They have been a wonderful encouragement to me, as they have been to you. You must show your appreciation to all who serve so well.
Unchecked Copy Box2Co 1:17 - You may be asking why I changed my plan. Do you think I make my plans carelessly? Do you think I am like people of the world who say “Yes” when they really mean “No”?
Unchecked Copy Box2Co 3:12 - Since this new way gives us such confidence, we can be very bold.
Unchecked Copy Box2Co 5:6 - So we are always confident, even though we know that as long as we live in these bodies we are not at home with the Lord.
Unchecked Copy Box2Co 5:11 - Because we understand our fearful responsibility to the Lord, we work hard to persuade others. God knows we are sincere, and I hope you know this, too.
Unchecked Copy Box2Co 5:20 - So we are Christ's ambassadors; God is making his appeal through us. We speak for Christ when we plead, “Come back to God!”
Unchecked Copy Box2Co 7:1 - Because we have these promises, dear friends, let us cleanse ourselves from everything that can defile our body or spirit. And let us work toward complete holiness because we fear God.
Unchecked Copy Box2Co 8:24 - So show them your love, and prove to all the churches that our boasting about you is justified.
Unchecked Copy Box2Co 9:5 - So I thought I should send these brothers ahead of me to make sure the gift you promised is ready. But I want it to be a willing gift, not one given grudgingly.
Unchecked Copy Box2Co 11:15 - So it is no wonder that his servants also disguise themselves as servants of righteousness. In the end they will get the punishment their wicked deeds deserve.
Unchecked Copy Box2Co 12:9 - Each time he said, “My grace is all you need. My power works best in weakness.” So now I am glad to boast about my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ can work through me.
Unchecked Copy BoxGal 3:5 - I ask you again, does God give you the Holy Spirit and work miracles among you because you obey the law? Of course not! It is because you believe the message you heard about Christ.
Unchecked Copy BoxGal 3:19 - Why, then, was the law given? It was given alongside the promise to show people their sins. But the law was designed to last only until the coming of the child who was promised. God gave his law through angels to Moses, who was the mediator between God and the people.
Unchecked Copy BoxGal 3:21 - Is there a conflict, then, between God's law and God's promises?[fn] Absolutely not! If the law could give us new life, we could be made right with God by obeying it.
Unchecked Copy BoxGal 4:15 - Where is that joyful and grateful spirit you felt then? I am sure you would have taken out your own eyes and given them to me if it had been possible.
Unchecked Copy BoxGal 5:1 - So Christ has truly set us free. Now make sure that you stay free, and don't get tied up again in slavery to the law.
Unchecked Copy BoxGal 6:10 - Therefore, whenever we have the opportunity, we should do good to everyone—especially to those in the family of faith.
Unchecked Copy BoxEph 2:19 - So now you Gentiles are no longer strangers and foreigners. You are citizens along with all of God's holy people. You are members of God's family.
Unchecked Copy BoxEph 4:1 - Therefore I, a prisoner for serving the Lord, beg you to lead a life worthy of your calling, for you have been called by God.
Unchecked Copy BoxEph 4:17 - With the Lord's authority I say this: Live no longer as the Gentiles do, for they are hopelessly confused.
Unchecked Copy BoxEph 5:1 - Imitate God, therefore, in everything you do, because you are his dear children.
Unchecked Copy BoxEph 5:7 - Don't participate in the things these people do.
Unchecked Copy BoxEph 5:15 - So be careful how you live. Don't live like fools, but like those who are wise.
Unchecked Copy BoxEph 6:14 - Stand your ground, putting on the belt of truth and the body armor of God's righteousness.
Unchecked Copy BoxPhl 2:1 - Is there any encouragement from belonging to Christ? Any comfort from his love? Any fellowship together in the Spirit? Are your hearts tender and compassionate?
Unchecked Copy BoxPhl 2:23 - I hope to send him to you just as soon as I find out what is going to happen to me here.
Unchecked Copy BoxPhl 2:28 - So I am all the more anxious to send him back to you, for I know you will be glad to see him, and then I will not be so worried about you.
Unchecked Copy BoxPhl 2:29 - Welcome him with Christian love[fn] and with great joy, and give him the honor that people like him deserve.
Unchecked Copy BoxPhl 3:15 - Let all who are spiritually mature agree on these things. If you disagree on some point, I believe God will make it plain to you.
Unchecked Copy BoxCol 2:6 - And now, just as you accepted Christ Jesus as your Lord, you must continue to follow him.
Unchecked Copy BoxCol 2:16 - So don't let anyone condemn you for what you eat or drink, or for not celebrating certain holy days or new moon ceremonies or Sabbaths.
Unchecked Copy BoxCol 2:20 - You have died with Christ, and he has set you free from the spiritual powers of this world. So why do you keep on following the rules of the world, such as,
Unchecked Copy BoxCol 3:1 - Since you have been raised to new life with Christ, set your sights on the realities of heaven, where Christ sits in the place of honor at God's right hand.
Unchecked Copy BoxCol 3:5 - So put to death the sinful, earthly things lurking within you. Have nothing to do with sexual immorality, impurity, lust, and evil desires. Don't be greedy, for a greedy person is an idolater, worshiping the things of this world.
Unchecked Copy BoxCol 3:12 - Since God chose you to be the holy people he loves, you must clothe yourselves with tenderhearted mercy, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience.
Unchecked Copy Box1Th 4:1 - Finally, dear brothers and sisters,[fn] we urge you in the name of the Lord Jesus to live in a way that pleases God, as we have taught you. You live this way already, and we encourage you to do so even more.
Unchecked Copy Box1Th 5:6 - So be on your guard, not asleep like the others. Stay alert and be clearheaded.
Unchecked Copy Box2Th 2:15 - With all these things in mind, dear brothers and sisters, stand firm and keep a strong grip on the teaching we passed on to you both in person and by letter.
Unchecked Copy Box1Ti 2:1 - I urge you, first of all, to pray for all people. Ask God to help them; intercede on their behalf, and give thanks for them.
Unchecked Copy Box1Ti 2:8 - In every place of worship, I want men to pray with holy hands lifted up to God, free from anger and controversy.
Unchecked Copy Box1Ti 3:2 - So an elder must be a man whose life is above reproach. He must be faithful to his wife.[fn] He must exercise self-control, live wisely, and have a good reputation. He must enjoy having guests in his home, and he must be able to teach.
Unchecked Copy Box1Ti 5:14 - So I advise these younger widows to marry again, have children, and take care of their own homes. Then the enemy will not be able to say anything against them.
Unchecked Copy Box2Ti 1:8 - So never be ashamed to tell others about our Lord. And don't be ashamed of me, either, even though I'm in prison for him. With the strength God gives you, be ready to suffer with me for the sake of the Good News.
Unchecked Copy Box2Ti 2:1 - Timothy, my dear son, be strong through the grace that God gives you in Christ Jesus.
Unchecked Copy Box2Ti 2:3 - Endure suffering along with me, as a good soldier of Christ Jesus.
Unchecked Copy Box2Ti 2:21 - If you keep yourself pure, you will be a special utensil for honorable use. Your life will be clean, and you will be ready for the Master to use you for every good work.
Unchecked Copy Box2Ti 4:1 - I solemnly urge you in the presence of God and Christ Jesus, who will someday judge the living and the dead when he appears to set up his Kingdom:
Unchecked Copy BoxPhm 1:17 - So if you consider me your partner, welcome him as you would welcome me.
Unchecked Copy BoxHeb 2:14 - Because God's children are human beings—made of flesh and blood—the Son also became flesh and blood. For only as a human being could he die, and only by dying could he break the power of the devil, who had[fn] the power of death.
Unchecked Copy BoxHeb 4:1 - God's promise of entering his rest still stands, so we ought to tremble with fear that some of you might fail to experience it.
Unchecked Copy BoxHeb 4:6 - So God's rest is there for people to enter, but those who first heard this good news failed to enter because they disobeyed God.
Unchecked Copy BoxHeb 4:11 - So let us do our best to enter that rest. But if we disobey God, as the people of Israel did, we will fall.
Unchecked Copy BoxHeb 4:14 - So then, since we have a great High Priest who has entered heaven, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold firmly to what we believe.
Unchecked Copy BoxHeb 4:16 - So let us come boldly to the throne of our gracious God. There we will receive his mercy, and we will find grace to help us when we need it most.
Unchecked Copy BoxHeb 7:11 - So if the priesthood of Levi, on which the law was based, could have achieved the perfection God intended, why did God need to establish a different priesthood, with a priest in the order of Melchizedek instead of the order of Levi and Aaron?[fn]
Unchecked Copy BoxHeb 9:1 - That first covenant between God and Israel had regulations for worship and a place of worship here on earth.
Unchecked Copy BoxHeb 9:23 - That is why the Tabernacle and everything in it, which were copies of things in heaven, had to be purified by the blood of animals. But the real things in heaven had to be purified with far better sacrifices than the blood of animals.
Unchecked Copy BoxHeb 10:19 - And so, dear brothers and sisters,[fn] we can boldly enter heaven's Most Holy Place because of the blood of Jesus.
Unchecked Copy BoxHeb 10:35 - So do not throw away this confident trust in the Lord. Remember the great reward it brings you!
Unchecked Copy BoxHeb 13:15 - Therefore, let us offer through Jesus a continual sacrifice of praise to God, proclaiming our allegiance to his name.
Unchecked Copy BoxJas 4:4 - You adulterers![fn] Don't you realize that friendship with the world makes you an enemy of God? I say it again: If you want to be a friend of the world, you make yourself an enemy of God.
Unchecked Copy BoxJas 4:7 - So humble yourselves before God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.
Unchecked Copy BoxJas 4:17 - Remember, it is sin to know what you ought to do and then not do it.
Unchecked Copy BoxJas 5:7 - Dear brothers and sisters,[fn] be patient as you wait for the Lord's return. Consider the farmers who patiently wait for the rains in the fall and in the spring. They eagerly look for the valuable harvest to ripen.
Unchecked Copy Box1Pe 2:1 - So get rid of all evil behavior. Be done with all deceit, hypocrisy, jealousy, and all unkind speech.
Unchecked Copy Box1Pe 2:7 - Yes, you who trust him recognize the honor God has given him. But for those who reject him,
“The stone that the builders rejected
has now become the cornerstone.”[fn]
Unchecked Copy Box1Pe 2:13 - For the Lord's sake, respect all human authority—whether the king as head of state,
Unchecked Copy Box1Pe 4:1 - So then, since Christ suffered physical pain, you must arm yourselves with the same attitude he had, and be ready to suffer, too. For if you have suffered physically for Christ, you have finished with sin.[fn]
Unchecked Copy Box1Pe 4:7 - The end of the world is coming soon. Therefore, be earnest and disciplined in your prayers.
Unchecked Copy Box1Pe 5:6 - So humble yourselves under the mighty power of God, and at the right time he will lift you up in honor.
Unchecked Copy Box2Pe 3:17 - I am warning you ahead of time, dear friends. Be on guard so that you will not be carried away by the errors of these wicked people and lose your own secure footing.
Unchecked Copy Box3Jo 1:8 - So we ourselves should support them so that we can be their partners as they teach the truth.
Unchecked Copy BoxRev 2:5 - Look how far you have fallen! Turn back to me and do the works you did at first. If you don't repent, I will come and remove your lampstand from its place among the churches.
Unchecked Copy BoxRev 3:3 - Go back to what you heard and believed at first; hold to it firmly. Repent and turn to me again. If you don't wake up, I will come to you suddenly, as unexpected as a thief.
Unchecked Copy BoxRev 3:19 - I correct and discipline everyone I love. So be diligent and turn from your indifference.
