“And you, Bethlehem, in the land of Judah,

are by no means least among the rulers of Judah:

Because out of you will come a ruler

who will shepherd my people Israel.”

“And you, Capernaum, will you be exalted to heaven? No, you will go down to Hades. For if the miracles that were done in you had been done in Sodom, it would have remained until today.

Going a little farther,[fn] he fell facedown and prayed, “My Father, if it is possible, let this cup pass from me. Yet not as I will, but as you will.”

And he said, “Abba,[fn] Father! All things are possible for you. Take this cup away from me. Nevertheless, not what I will, but what you will.”

“And you, Capernaum, will you be exalted to heaven? No, you will go down to Hades.

“Instead, will he not tell him, ‘Prepare something for me to eat, get ready, and serve me while I eat and drink; later you can eat and drink'?

“But I have prayed for you[fn] that your faith may not fail. And you, when you have turned back, strengthen your brothers.”

“What then? ” they asked him. “Are you Elijah? ”

“I am not,” he said.

“Are you the Prophet? ”

“No,” he answered.

“Sir,” the woman replied, “I see that you are a prophet.

The Jews responded to him, “Aren't we right in saying that you're a Samaritan and have a demon? ”

“I know that you always hear me, but because of the crowd standing here I said this, so that they may believe you sent me.”

He came to Simon Peter, who asked him, “Lord, are you going to wash my feet? ”

“Now, Father, glorify me in your presence with that glory I had with you before the world existed.

“because I have given them the words you gave me. They have received them and have known for certain that I came from you. They have believed that you sent me.

“May they all be one, as you, Father, are in me and I am in you. May they also be[fn] in us, so that the world may believe you sent me.

“I am in them and you are in me, so that they may be made completely one, that the world may know you have sent me and have loved them as you have loved me.

“Righteous Father, the world has not known you. However, I have known you, and they have known that you sent me.

“You are a king then? ” Pilate asked.

“You say that I'm a king,” Jesus replied. “I was born for this, and I have come into the world for this: to testify to the truth. Everyone who is of the truth listens to my voice.”

He went back into the headquarters and asked Jesus, “Where are you from? ” But Jesus did not give him an answer.

“If I want him to remain until I come,” Jesus answered, “what is that to you? As for you, follow me.”

“So I immediately sent for you, and it was good of you to come. So now we are all in the presence of God to hear everything you have been commanded by the Lord.”

“God has fulfilled this for us, their children, by raising up Jesus, as it is written in the second Psalm:

You are my Son;

today I have become your Father.[fn]

For to which of the angels did he ever say,

You are my Son;

today I have become your Father,[fn]

or again,

I will be his Father,

and he will be my Son?

In the same way, Christ did not exalt himself to become a high priest, but God who said to him,

You are my Son;

today I have become your Father,[fn]
