Then Reuben said to his father, “You can kill my two sons if I don't bring him back to you. Put him in my care,[fn] and I will return him to you.”

When the silver from the land of Egypt and the land of Canaan was gone, all the Egyptians came to Joseph and said, “Give us food. Why should we die here in front of you? The silver is gone! ”

“Why should we die here in front of you ​— ​both us and our land? Buy us and our land in exchange for food. Then we with our land will become Pharaoh's slaves. Give us seed so that we can live and not die, and so that the land won't become desolate.”

So the people complained to Moses, “Give us water to drink.”

“Why are you complaining to me? ” Moses replied to them. “Why are you testing the LORD? ”

The LORD then said to Moses, “Write this down on a scroll as a reminder and recite it to Joshua: I will completely blot out the memory of Amalek under heaven.”

“Where can I get meat to give all these people? For they are weeping to me, ‘Give us meat to eat! '

So Joshua said to Achan, “My son, give glory to the LORD, the God of Israel, and make a confession to him.[fn] I urge you, tell me what you have done. Don't hide anything from me.”

So he gave him his hand, and Jehu pulled him up into the chariot with him.

King Jehoash of Israel sent word to King Amaziah of Judah, saying, “The thistle in Lebanon once sent a message to the cedar in Lebanon, saying, ‘Give your daughter to my son as a wife.' Then a wild animal in Lebanon passed by and trampled the thistle.

Give my son Solomon an undivided heart to keep and to carry out all your commands, your decrees, and your statutes, and to build the building for which I have made provision.

At the time, I was the king's cupbearer.

Listen, our God, for we are despised. Make their insults return on their own heads and let them be taken as plunder to a land of captivity.

Repay them according to what they have done —

according to the evil of their deeds.

Repay them according to the work of their hands;

give them back what they deserve.

Give us aid against the foe,

for human help is worthless.

God, give your justice to the king

and your righteousness to the king's son.

Turn to me and be gracious to me.

Give your strength to your servant;

save the son of your female servant.

Not to us, LORD, not to us,

but to your name give glory

because of your faithful love, because of your truth.

Apply yourself to discipline

and listen to words of knowledge.

Give a portion to seven or even to eight,

for you don't know what disaster may happen on earth.

LORD, you will establish peace for us,

for you have also done all our work for us.

Therefore, hand their children over to famine,

and give them over to the power of the sword.

Let their wives become childless and widowed,

their husbands slain by deadly disease,[fn]

their young men struck down by the sword in battle.

Go up to Lebanon and cry out;

raise your voice in Bashan;

cry out from Abarim,

for all your lovers[fn] have been crushed.

Set up road markers for yourself;

establish signposts!

Keep the highway in mind,

the way you have traveled.

Return, Virgin Israel!

Return to these cities of yours.

“Pass throughout the city of Jerusalem,” the LORD said to him, “and put a mark on the foreheads of the men who sigh and groan over all the detestable practices committed in it.”

“This is what the Lord GOD says: Summon[fn] an assembly against them and consign them to terror and plunder.

Give them, LORD —

What should you give?
