LXX Concordance for ἔδωκεν

The woman saw that the tree was good for food and delightful to look at, and that it was desirable for obtaining wisdom. So she took some of its fruit and ate it; she also gave some to her husband, who was with her, and he ate it.

The man replied, “The woman you gave to be with me ​— ​she gave me some fruit from the tree, and I ate.”

and blessed be God Most High

who has handed over your enemies to you.

And Abram gave him a tenth of everything.

So Abram's wife, Sarai, took Hagar, her Egyptian slave, and gave her to her husband, Abram, as a wife for him. This happened after Abram had lived in the land of Canaan ten years.

Abraham ran to the herd and got a tender, choice calf. He gave it to a young man, who hurried to prepare it.

Then Abimelech took flocks and herds and male and female slaves, gave them to Abraham, and returned his wife Sarah to him.

Early in the morning Abraham got up, took bread and a waterskin, put them on Hagar's shoulders, and sent her and the boy away. She left and wandered in the Wilderness of Beer-sheba.

Abraham took flocks and herds and gave them to Abimelech, and the two of them made a covenant.

So the man came to the house, and the camels were unloaded. Straw and feed were given to the camels, and water was brought to wash his feet and the feet of the men with him.

“The LORD has greatly blessed my master, and he has become rich. He has given him flocks and herds, silver and gold, male and female slaves, and camels and donkeys.

Then he brought out objects of silver and gold, and garments, and gave them to Rebekah. He also gave precious gifts to her brother and her mother.

Abraham gave everything he owned to Isaac.

Then Jacob gave bread and lentil stew to Esau; he ate, drank, got up, and went away. So Esau despised his birthright.

Then she handed the delicious food and the bread she had made to her son Jacob.

“May God give you and your offspring the blessing of Abraham so that you may possess the land where you live as a foreigner, the land God gave to Abraham.”

And Laban gave his slave Zilpah to his daughter Leah as her slave.

And Jacob did just that. He finished the week of celebration, and Laban gave him his daughter Rachel as his wife.

So Rachel gave her slave Bilhah to Jacob as a wife, and he slept with her.

When Leah saw that she had stopped having children, she took her slave Zilpah and gave her to Jacob as a wife.

Leah said, “God has rewarded me for giving my slave to my husband,” and she named him Issachar.[fn]

That day Laban removed the streaked and spotted male goats and all the speckled and spotted female goats ​— ​every one that had any white on it ​— ​and every dark-colored one among the lambs, and he placed his sons in charge of them.

“and that he has cheated me and changed my wages ten times. But God has not let him harm me.

He entrusted them to his slaves as separate herds and said to them, “Go on ahead of me, and leave some distance between the herds.”

So she took off her widow's clothes, veiled her face, covered herself, and sat at the entrance to Enaim, which is on the way to Timnah. For she saw that, though Shelah had grown up, she had not been given to him as a wife.

“What should I give you? ” he asked.

She answered, “Your signet ring, your cord, and the staff in your hand.” So he gave them to her and slept with her, and she became pregnant by him.

Joseph found favor with his master and became his personal attendant. Potiphar also put him in charge of his household and placed all that he owned under his authority.[fn]

But he refused. “Look,” he said to his master's wife, “with me here my master does not concern himself with anything in his house, and he has put all that he owns under my authority.[fn]

But the LORD was with Joseph and extended kindness to him. He granted him favor with the prison warden.

Pharaoh restored the chief cupbearer to his position as cupbearer, and he placed the cup in Pharaoh's hand.

Pharaoh gave Joseph the name Zaphenath-paneah and gave him a wife, Asenath daughter of Potiphera, priest at On.[fn] And Joseph went throughout[fn] the land of Egypt.

Then the steward said, “May you be well. Don't be afraid. Your God and the God of your father must have put treasure in your bags. I received your silver.” Then he brought Simeon out to them.

The sons of Israel did this. Joseph gave them wagons as Pharaoh had commanded, and he gave them provisions for the journey.

These were the sons of Zilpah ​— ​whom Laban gave to his daughter Leah ​— ​that she bore to Jacob: sixteen persons.

These were the sons of Bilhah, whom Laban gave to his daughter Rachel. She bore to Jacob: seven persons.

Then Joseph settled his father and brothers in the land of Egypt and gave them property in the best part of the land, the land of Rameses, as Pharaoh had commanded.

So they brought their livestock to Joseph, and he gave them food in exchange for the horses, the flocks of sheep, the herds of cattle, and the donkeys. That year he provided them with food in exchange for all their livestock.

The only land he did not acquire belonged to the priests, for they had an allowance from Pharaoh. They ate from their allowance that Pharaoh gave them; therefore they did not sell their land.

The LORD said to him, “Who placed a mouth on humans? Who makes a person mute or deaf, seeing or blind? Is it not I, the LORD?

And the LORD set a time, saying, “Tomorrow the LORD will do this thing in the land.”

So Moses stretched out his staff toward heaven, and the LORD sent thunder and hail. Lightning struck the land, and the LORD rained hail on the land of Egypt.

The LORD gave[fn] the people favor with the Egyptians. In addition, Moses himself was very highly regarded[fn] in the land of Egypt by[fn] Pharaoh's officials and the people.

And the LORD gave the people such favor with the Egyptians that they gave them what they requested. In this way they plundered the Egyptians.

When the Israelites saw it, they asked one another, “What is it? ” because they didn't know what it was.

Moses told them, “It is the bread the LORD has given you to eat.

“Understand that the LORD has given you the Sabbath; therefore on the sixth day he will give you two days' worth of bread. Each of you stay where you are; no one is to leave his place on the seventh day.”

When he finished speaking with Moses on Mount Sinai, he gave him the two tablets of the testimony, stone tablets inscribed by the finger of God.

“He has also given[fn] both him and Oholiab son of Ahisamach, of the tribe of Dan, the ability to teach others.

So Moses summoned Bezalel, Oholiab, and every skilled person in whose heart the LORD had placed wisdom, all whose hearts moved them, to come to the work and do it.

“Why didn't you eat the sin offering in the sanctuary area? For it is especially holy, and he has assigned it to you to take away the guilt of the community and make atonement for them before the LORD.

“I will turn[fn] against that man and cut him off from his people, because he gave his offspring to Molech, defiling my sanctuary and profaning my holy name.

These are the statutes, ordinances, and laws the LORD established between himself and the Israelites through Moses on Mount Sinai.

He gave the redemption silver to Aaron and his sons in obedience to the LORD, just as the LORD commanded Moses.

So Moses took the carts and oxen and gave them to the Levites.

Then the whole community broke into loud cries, and the people wept that night.

But Sihon would not let Israel travel through his territory. Instead, he gathered his whole army and went out to confront Israel in the wilderness. When he came to Jahaz, he fought against Israel.

Moses gave the tribute to the priest Eleazar as a contribution for the LORD, as the LORD had commanded Moses.

Moses took one out of every fifty, selected from the people and the livestock of the Israelites' half. He gave them to the Levites who perform the duties of the LORD's tabernacle, as the LORD had commanded him.

“After they went up as far as Eshcol Valley and saw the land, they discouraged the Israelites from entering the land the LORD had given them.

So Moses gave them ​— ​the Gadites, Reubenites, and half the tribe of Manasseh son of Joseph ​— ​the kingdom of King Sihon of the Amorites and the kingdom of King Og of Bashan, the land including its cities with the territories surrounding them.

So Moses gave Gilead to the clan of Machir son of Manasseh, and they settled in it.

“I commanded you at that time: The LORD your God has given you this land to possess. All your valiant men will cross over in battle formation ahead of your brothers the Israelites.

“Before our eyes the LORD inflicted great and devastating signs and wonders on Egypt, on Pharaoh, and on all his household,

“On the day of the assembly the LORD gave me the two stone tablets, inscribed by God's finger. The exact words were on them, which the LORD spoke to you from the fire on the mountain.

“Then on the day of the assembly, the LORD wrote on the tablets what had been written previously, the Ten Commandments that he had spoken to you on the mountain from the fire. The LORD gave them to me,

“Then the LORD's anger will burn against you. He will shut the sky, and there will be no rain; the land will not yield its produce, and you will perish quickly from the good land the LORD is giving you.

“Though these nations you are about to drive out listen to fortune-tellers and diviners, the LORD your God has not permitted you to do this.

“He led us to this place and gave us this land, a land flowing with milk and honey.

“Yet to this day the LORD has not given you a mind to understand, eyes to see, or ears to hear.

Moses wrote down this law and gave it to the priests, the sons of Levi, who carried the ark of the LORD's covenant, and to all the elders of Israel.

“Remember what Moses the LORD's servant commanded you when he said, ‘The LORD your God will give you rest, and he will give you this land.'

So Joshua took the entire land, in keeping with all that the LORD had told Moses. Joshua then gave it as an inheritance to Israel according to their tribal allotments. After this, the land had rest from war.

Moses the LORD's servant and the Israelites struck them down. And Moses the LORD's servant gave their land as an inheritance to the Reubenites, Gadites, and half the tribe of Manasseh.

With the other half of the tribe of Manasseh, the Reubenites and Gadites had received the inheritance Moses gave them beyond the Jordan to the east, just as Moses the LORD's servant had given them:

To the tribe of Reuben's descendants by their clans, Moses gave

To the tribe of the Gadites by their clans, Moses gave

And to half the tribe of Manasseh (that is, to half the tribe of Manasseh's descendants by their clans) Moses gave

because Moses had given the inheritance to the two and a half tribes beyond the Jordan. But he gave no inheritance among them to the Levites.

Then Joshua blessed Caleb son of Jephunneh and gave him Hebron as an inheritance.

He gave Caleb son of Jephunneh the following portion among the descendants of Judah based on the LORD's instruction to Joshua: Kiriath-arba (that is, Hebron; Arba was the father of Anak).

So Othniel son of Caleb's brother, Kenaz, captured it, and Caleb gave his daughter Achsah to him as a wife.

She replied, “Give me a blessing. Since you have given me land in the Negev, give me the springs also.” So he gave her the upper and lower springs.

However, they did not drive out the Canaanites who lived in Gezer. So the Canaanites still live in Ephraim today, but they are forced laborers.

So Joshua asked the Israelites, “How long will you delay going out to take possession of the land that the LORD, the God of your ancestors, gave you?

“But the Levites among you do not get a portion, because their inheritance is the priesthood of the LORD. Gad, Reuben, and half the tribe of Manasseh have taken their inheritance beyond the Jordan to the east, which Moses the LORD's servant gave them.”

Across the Jordan east of Jericho, they selected Bezer on the wilderness plateau from Reuben's tribe, Ramoth in Gilead from Gad's tribe, and Golan in Bashan from Manasseh's tribe.

The Israelites gave these cities by name from the tribes of the descendants of Judah and Simeon

They gave them Kiriath-arba (that is, Hebron; Arba was the father of Anak) with its surrounding pasturelands in the hill country of Judah.

So the LORD gave Israel all the land he had sworn to give their ancestors, and they took possession of it and settled there.

“Now that he has given your brothers rest, just as he promised them, return to your homes in your own land that Moses the LORD's servant gave you across the Jordan.

Moses had given territory to half the tribe of Manasseh in Bashan, but Joshua had given territory to the other half,[fn] with their brothers, on the west side of the Jordan. When Joshua sent them to their homes and blessed them,

“know for certain that the LORD your God will not continue to drive these nations out before you. They will become a snare and a trap for you, a sharp stick[fn] for your sides and thorns in your eyes, until you disappear from this good land the LORD your God has given you.

“Since every good thing the LORD your God promised you has come about, so he will bring on you every bad thing until he has annihilated you from this good land the LORD your God has given you.

“Your ancestors cried out to the LORD, so he put darkness between you and the Egyptians, and brought the sea over them, engulfing them. Your own eyes saw what I did to Egypt. After that, you lived in the wilderness a long time.

“I gave you a land you did not labor for, and cities you did not build, though you live in them; you are eating from vineyards and olive groves you did not plant.'

On that day Joshua made a covenant for the people at Shechem and established a statute and ordinance for them.

Joseph's bones, which the Israelites had brought up from Egypt, were buried at Shechem in the parcel of land Jacob had purchased from the sons of Hamor, Shechem's father, for a hundred pieces of silver.[fn] It was an inheritance for Joseph's descendants.

When Judah attacked, the LORD handed the Canaanites and Perizzites over to them. They struck down ten thousand men in Bezek.

So Othniel son of Kenaz, Caleb's youngest brother, captured it, and Caleb gave his daughter Achsah to him as his wife.

She answered him, “Give me a blessing. Since you have given me land in the Negev, give me springs also.” So Caleb gave her both the upper and lower springs.

Judah gave Hebron to Caleb, just as Moses had promised. Then Caleb drove out the three sons of Anak who lived there.

He asked for water; she gave him milk.

She brought him cream in a majestic bowl.

Then he divided the three hundred men into three companies and gave each of the men a ram's horn in one hand and an empty pitcher with a torch inside it in the other hand.

He scooped some honey into his hands and ate it as he went along. When he came to his father and mother, he gave some to them and they ate it. But he did not tell them that he had scooped the honey from the lion's carcass.

The Spirit of the LORD came powerfully on him, and he went down to Ashkelon and killed thirty of their men. He stripped them and gave their clothes to those who had explained the riddle. In a rage, Samson returned to his father's house,

Then the Philistines asked, “Who did this? ”

They were told, “It was Samson, the Timnite's son-in-law, because he took Samson's wife and gave her to his companion.” So the Philistines went to her and her father and burned them to death.

So he returned the silver to his mother, and she took five pounds of silver and gave it to a silversmith. He made it into a carved image and a silver idol, and it was in Micah's house.

Then the Benjaminites realized they had been defeated.

The men of Israel had retreated before Benjamin, because they were confident in the ambush they had set against Gibeah.

She picked up the grain and went into the town, where her mother-in-law saw what she had gleaned. She brought out what she had left over from her meal and gave it to her.

So the redeemer removed his sandal and said to Boaz, “Buy back the property yourself.”

Boaz took Ruth and she became his wife. He slept with her, and the LORD granted conception to her, and she gave birth to a son.

Whenever Elkanah offered a sacrifice, he always gave portions of the meat to his wife Peninnah and to each of her sons and daughters.

Samuel called on the LORD, and on that day the LORD sent thunder and rain. As a result, all the people greatly feared the LORD and Samuel.

Then Jonathan gave his equipment to the servant who was with him and said, “Go, take it back to the city.”

So the priest gave him the consecrated bread, for there was no bread there except the Bread of the Presence that had been removed from the presence of the LORD. When the bread was removed, it had been replaced with warm bread.

David fled that day from Saul's presence and went to King Achish of Gath.

“Ahimelech inquired of the LORD for him and gave him provisions. He also gave him the sword of Goliath the Philistine.”

With these words David persuaded[fn] his men, and he did not let them rise up against Saul.

Then Saul left the cave and went on his way.

But Saul gave his daughter Michal, David's wife, to Palti son of Laish, who was from Gallim.

That day Achish gave Ziklag to him, and it still belongs to the kings of Judah today.

They brought Ish-bosheth's head to David at Hebron and said to the king, “Here's the head of Ish-bosheth son of Saul, your enemy who intended to take your life. Today the LORD has granted vengeance to my lord the king against Saul and his offspring.”

He placed the rest of the forces under the command of his brother Abishai. They lined up in formation to engage the Ammonites.

“The LORD has paid you back for all the blood of the house of Saul in whose place you became king, and the LORD has handed the kingdom over to your son Absalom. Look, you are in trouble because you're a man of bloodshed! ”

All the men of Judah responded to the men of Israel, “Because the king is our relative. Why does this make you angry? Have we ever eaten anything of the king's or been honored at all? ”[fn]

When David came to his palace in Jerusalem, he took the ten concubines he had left to take care of the palace and placed them under guard. He provided for them, but he was not intimate with them. They were confined until the day of their death, living as widows.

and handed them over to the Gibeonites. They hanged[fn] them on the hill in the presence of the LORD; the seven of them died together. They were executed in the first days of the harvest at the beginning of the barley harvest.[fn]

The LORD thundered from heaven;

the Most High made his voice heard.

Joab gave the king the total of the registration of the troops. There were eight hundred thousand valiant armed men[fn] from Israel and five hundred thousand men from Judah.

So the LORD sent a plague on Israel from that morning until the appointed time, and from Dan to Beer-sheba seventy thousand men died.

“Your Majesty, Araunah gives everything here to the king.” Then he said to the king, “May the LORD your God accept you.”

“And the king went on to say this: ‘Blessed be the LORD God of Israel! Today he has provided one to sit on my throne, and I am a witness.' ”[fn]

“You also know what Joab son of Zeruiah did to me and what he did to the two commanders of Israel's army, Abner son of Ner and Amasa son of Jether. He murdered them in a time of peace to avenge blood shed in war. He spilled that blood on his own waistband and on the sandals of his feet.[fn]

Then the king appointed Benaiah son of Jehoiada in Joab's place over the army, and he appointed the priest Zadok in Abiathar's place.

God gave Solomon wisdom, very great insight, and understanding as vast as the sand on the seashore.

Emissaries of all peoples, sent by every king on earth who had heard of his wisdom, came to listen to Solomon's wisdom.

When Hiram heard Solomon's words, he rejoiced greatly and said, “Blessed be the LORD today! He has given David a wise son to be over this great people! ”

and Solomon provided Hiram with one hundred twenty thousand bushels[fn] of wheat as food for his household and one hundred twenty thousand gallons[fn] of oil from crushed olives. Solomon did this for Hiram year after year.

He then built a chambered structure[fn] along the temple wall, encircling the walls of the temple, that is, the sanctuary and the inner sanctuary. And he made side chambers[fn] all around.

Solomon also made all the equipment in the LORD's temple: the gold altar; the gold table that the Bread of the Presence was placed on;

So all the work King Solomon did in the LORD's temple was completed. Then Solomon brought in the consecrated things of his father David ​— ​the silver, the gold, and the utensils ​— ​and put them in the treasuries of the LORD's temple.

“Blessed be the LORD! He has given rest to his people Israel according to all he has said. Not one of all the good promises he made through his servant Moses has failed.

If you or your sons turn away from following me and do not keep my commands ​— ​my statutes that I have set before you ​— ​and if you go and serve other gods and bow in worship to them,

King Hiram of Tyre having supplied him with cedar and cypress logs and gold for his every wish ​— ​King Solomon gave Hiram twenty towns in the land of Galilee.

Then she gave the king four and a half tons[fn] of gold, a great quantity of spices, and precious stones. Never again did such a quantity of spices arrive as those the queen of Sheba gave to King Solomon.

King Solomon gave the queen of Sheba her every desire ​— ​whatever she asked ​— ​besides what he had given her out of his royal bounty. Then she, along with her servants, returned to her own country.

He made three hundred small shields of hammered gold; nearly four pounds[fn] of gold went into each shield. The king put them in the House of the Forest of Lebanon.

The whole world wanted an audience with Solomon to hear the wisdom that God had put in his heart.

The king made silver as common in Jerusalem as stones, and he made cedar as abundant as sycamore in the Judean foothills.

Hadad and his men set out from Midian and went to Paran. They took men with them from Paran and went to Egypt, to Pharaoh king of Egypt, who gave Hadad a house, ordered that he be given food, and gave him land.

“Your father made our yoke harsh. You, therefore, lighten your father's harsh service and the heavy yoke he put on us, and we will serve you.”

He asked them, “What message do you advise that we send back to this people who said to me, ‘Lighten the yoke your father put on us'? ”

He set up one in Bethel, and put the other in Dan.

He gave a sign that day. He said, “This is the sign that the LORD has spoken: ‘The altar will now be ripped apart, and the ashes that are on it will be poured out.' ”

The altar was ripped apart, and the ashes poured from the altar, according to the sign that the man of God had given by the word of the LORD.

But for the sake of David, the LORD his God gave him a lamp[fn] in Jerusalem by raising up his son after him and by preserving Jerusalem.

So Asa withdrew all the silver and gold that remained in the treasuries of the LORD's temple and the treasuries of the royal palace and gave it to his servants. Then King Asa sent them to Ben-hadad son of Tabrimmon son of Hezion king of Aram who lived in Damascus, saying,

Then Elijah took the boy, brought him down from the upstairs room into the house, and gave him to his mother. Elijah said, “Look, your son is alive.”

So he turned back from following him, took the team of oxen, and slaughtered[fn] them. With the oxen's wooden yoke and plow, he cooked the meat and gave it to the people, and they ate. Then he left, followed Elijah, and served him.

“You see, the LORD has put a lying spirit into the mouth of all these prophets of yours, and the LORD has pronounced disaster against you.”

Naaman, commander of the army for the king of Aram, was a man important to his master and highly regarded because through him, the LORD had given victory to Aram. The man was a valiant warrior, but he had a skin disease.

But Naaman insisted, “Please, accept one hundred fifty pounds.”[fn] He urged Gehazi and then packed one hundred fifty pounds of silver in two bags with two sets of clothing. Naaman gave them to two of his attendants who carried them ahead of Gehazi.

When the king asked the woman, she told him the story. So the king appointed a court official for her, saying, “Restore all that was hers, along with all the income from the field from the day she left the country until now.”

When he left there, he found Jehonadab son of Rechab coming to meet him. He greeted him and then asked, “Is your heart one with mine? ”[fn]

“It is,” Jehonadab replied.

Jehu said, “If it is,[fn] give me your hand.”

So he gave him his hand, and Jehu pulled him up into the chariot with him.

The priest gave to the commanders of hundreds King David's spears and shields that were in the LORD's temple.

Jehoiada brought out the king's son, put the crown on him, gave him the testimony,[fn] and made him king. They anointed him and clapped their hands and cried, “Long live the king! ”

Then the priest Jehoiada took a chest, bored a hole in its lid, and set it beside the altar on the right side as one enters the LORD's temple; the priests who guarded the threshold put into the chest all the silver that was brought to the LORD's temple.

So the LORD's anger burned against Israel, and he handed them over to King Hazael of Aram and to his son Ben-hadad during their reigns.

Therefore, the LORD gave Israel a deliverer, and they escaped from the power of the Arameans. Then the people of Israel returned to their former way of life,[fn]

King Pul[fn] of Assyria invaded the land, so Menahem gave Pul seventy-five thousand pounds[fn] of silver so that Pul would support him to strengthen his grasp on the kingdom.

He took the bronze altar that was before the LORD in front of the temple between his altar and the LORD's temple, and put it on the north side of his altar.

Then King Ahaz cut off the frames of the water carts[fn] and removed the bronze basin from each of them. He took the basin[fn] from the bronze oxen that were under it and put it on a stone pavement.

So the LORD rejected all the descendants of Israel, punished them, and handed them over to plunderers until he had banished them from his presence.

So Hezekiah gave him all the silver found in the LORD's temple and in the treasuries of the king's palace.

“It is to be given to those doing the work ​— ​those who oversee the LORD's temple. They in turn are to give it to the workmen in the LORD's temple to repair the damage.

The high priest Hilkiah told the court secretary Shaphan, “I have found the book of the law in the LORD's temple,” and he gave the book to Shaphan, who read it.

Pharaoh Neco imprisoned him at Riblah in the land of Hamath to keep him from reigning in Jerusalem, and he imposed on the land a fine of seventy-five hundred pounds[fn] of silver and seventy-five pounds[fn] of gold.

So Jehoiakim gave the silver and the gold to Pharaoh, but at Pharaoh's command he taxed the land to give it. He exacted the silver and the gold from the common people, each according to his assessment, to give it to Pharaoh Neco.

He spoke kindly to him and set his throne over the thrones of the kings who were with him in Babylon.

Sheshan gave his daughter in marriage to his servant Jarha, and she bore Attai to him.

These were the sons of Reuben the firstborn of Israel. He was the firstborn, but his birthright was given to the sons of Joseph son of Israel, because Reuben defiled his father's bed. He is not listed in the genealogy according to birthright.

Then David's fame spread throughout the lands, and the LORD caused all the nations to be terrified of him.

He placed the rest of the forces under the command of his brother Abishai. They lined up in formation to engage the Ammonites.

Joab gave the total troop registration to David. In all Israel there were one million one hundred thousand armed men[fn] and in Judah itself four hundred seventy thousand armed men.

So the LORD sent a plague on Israel, and seventy thousand Israelite men died.

So David gave Ornan fifteen pounds of gold[fn] for the plot.

“The LORD your God is with you, isn't he? And hasn't he given you rest on every side? For he has handed the land's inhabitants over to me, and the land has been subdued before the LORD and his people.

All these sons of Heman, the king's seer, were given by the promises of God to exalt him,[fn] for God had given Heman fourteen sons and three daughters.

Then David gave his son Solomon the plans for the portico of the temple and its buildings, treasuries, upstairs rooms, inner rooms, and a room for the mercy seat.

the weight of the gold lampstands and their gold lamps, including the weight of each lampstand and its lamps; the weight of each silver lampstand and its lamps, according to the service of each lampstand;

David concluded, “By the LORD's hand on me, he enabled me to understand everything in writing, all the details of the plan.”[fn]

The LORD highly exalted Solomon in the sight of all Israel and bestowed on him such royal majesty as had not been bestowed on any king over Israel before him.

Hiram also said:

Blessed be the LORD God of Israel, who made the heavens and the earth! He gave King David a wise son with insight and understanding, who will build a temple for the LORD and a royal palace for himself.

He had made chainwork in the inner sanctuary and also put it on top of the pillars. He made a hundred pomegranates and fastened them into the chainwork.

So all the work Solomon did for the LORD's temple was completed. Then Solomon brought the consecrated things of his father David ​— ​the silver, the gold, and all the utensils ​— ​and put them in the treasuries of God's temple.

Solomon had rebuilt the cities Hiram[fn] gave him and settled Israelites there ​— ​

But Solomon did not consign the Israelites to be slaves for his work; they were soldiers, commanders of his captains, and commanders of his chariots and his cavalry.

Then she gave the king four and a half tons[fn] of gold, a great quantity of spices, and precious stones. There never were such spices as those the queen of Sheba gave to King Solomon.

King Solomon gave the queen of Sheba her every desire, whatever she asked ​— ​far more than she had brought the king. Then she, along with her servants, returned to her own country.

He made three hundred small shields of hammered gold; 7 ¹/₂ pounds[fn] of gold went into each shield. The king put them in the House of the Forest of Lebanon.

All the kings of the world wanted an audience with Solomon to hear the wisdom God had put in his heart.

The king made silver as common in Jerusalem as stones, and he made cedar as abundant as sycamore in the Judean foothills.

“Your father made our yoke harsh. Therefore, lighten your father's harsh service and the heavy yoke he put on us, and we will serve you.”

He asked them, “What message do you advise we send back to this people who said to me, ‘Lighten the yoke your father put on us'? ”

He strengthened their fortifications and put leaders in them with supplies of food, oil, and wine.

Rehoboam also showed discernment by dispersing some of his sons to all the regions of Judah and Benjamin and to all the fortified cities. He gave them plenty of provisions and sought many wives for them.

“Don't you know that the LORD God of Israel gave the kingship over Israel to David and his descendants forever by a covenant of salt?

He stationed troops in every fortified city of Judah and set garrisons in the land of Judah and in the cities of Ephraim that his father Asa had captured.

So the LORD established the kingdom in his hand. Then all Judah brought him tribute, and he had riches and honor in abundance.

These were the ones who served the king, besides those he stationed in the fortified cities throughout all Judah.

“Now, you see, the LORD has put a lying spirit into the mouth of[fn] these prophets of yours, and the LORD has pronounced disaster against you.”

Jehoshaphat was afraid, and he resolved to seek the LORD. Then he proclaimed a fast for all Judah,

The moment they began their shouts and praises, the LORD set an ambush against the Ammonites, Moabites, and the inhabitants of Mount Seir who came to fight against Judah, and they were defeated.

Their father had given them many gifts of silver, gold, and valuable things, along with fortified cities in Judah, but he gave the kingdom to Jehoram because he was the firstborn.

Jehoshabeath,[fn] the king's daughter, rescued Joash son of Ahaziah from the king's sons who were being killed and put him and the one who nursed him in a bedroom. Now Jehoshabeath was the daughter of King Jehoram and the wife of the priest Jehoiada. Since she was Ahaziah's sister, she hid Joash from Athaliah so that she did not kill him.

The priest Jehoiada gave to the commanders of hundreds King David's spears, shields, and quivers[fn] that were in God's temple.

They brought out the king's son, put the crown on him, gave him the testimony, and made him king. Jehoiada and his sons anointed him and cried, “Long live the king! ”

Then the king and Jehoiada gave it to those in charge of the labor on the LORD's temple, who were hiring stonecutters and carpenters to renovate the LORD's temple, also blacksmiths and coppersmiths to repair the LORD's temple.

Although Ahaz plundered the LORD's temple and the palace of the king and of the rulers and gave the plunder to the king of Assyria, it did not help him.

“Therefore, the wrath of the LORD was on Judah and Jerusalem, and he made them an object of terror, horror, and mockery,[fn] as you see with your own eyes.

In those days Hezekiah became sick to the point of death, so he prayed to the LORD, who spoke to him and gave him a miraculous sign.

He made cities for himself, and he acquired vast numbers of flocks and herds, for God gave him abundant possessions.

Consequently, Hilkiah told the court secretary Shaphan, “I have found the book of the law in the LORD's temple,” and he gave the book to Shaphan.

His officials also donated willingly for the people, the priests, and the Levites. Hilkiah, Zechariah, and Jehiel, chief officials of God's temple, gave twenty-six hundred Passover sacrifices and three hundred cattle for the priests.

King Cyrus also brought out the articles of the LORD's house that Nebuchadnezzar had taken from Jerusalem and had placed in the house of his gods.

But since our ancestors angered the God of the heavens, he handed them over to King Nebuchadnezzar of Babylon, the Chaldean, who destroyed this temple and deported the people to Babylon.

He also took from the temple in Babylon the gold and silver articles of God's house that Nebuchadnezzar had taken from the temple in Jerusalem and carried them to the temple in Babylon. He released them from the temple in Babylon to a man named Sheshbazzar, the governor by the appointment of King Cyrus.

Then this same Sheshbazzar came and laid the foundation of God's house in Jerusalem. It has been under construction from that time until now, but it has not been completed.

 ​— ​came up from Babylon. He was a scribe skilled in the law of Moses, which the LORD, the God of Israel, had given. The king had granted him everything he requested because the hand of the LORD his God was on him.

Now Ezra had determined in his heart to study the law of the LORD, obey it, and teach its statutes and ordinances in Israel.

Blessed be the LORD, the God of our ancestors, who has put it into the king's mind to glorify the house of the LORD in Jerusalem,

There were also 220 of the temple servants, who had been appointed by David and the leaders for the work of the Levites. All were identified by name.

Then my God put it into my mind to assemble the nobles, the officials, and the people to be registered by genealogy. I found the genealogical record of those who came back first, and I found the following written in it:

“Didn't King Solomon of Israel sin in matters like this? There was not a king like him among many nations. He was loved by his God, and God made him king over all Israel, yet foreign women drew him into sin.

The king removed his signet ring from his hand and gave it to Haman son of Hammedatha the Agagite, the enemy of the Jews.

Mordecai also gave him a copy of the written decree issued in Susa ordering their destruction, so that Hathach might show it to Esther, explain it to her, and command her to approach the king, implore his favor, and plead with him personally for her people.

The king removed his signet ring he had recovered from Haman and gave it to Mordecai, and Esther put him in charge of Haman's estate.

saying:

Naked I came from my mother's womb,

and naked I will leave this life.[fn]

The LORD gives, and the LORD takes away.

Blessed be the name of the LORD.

Who put wisdom in the heart[fn]

or gave the mind understanding?

After Job had prayed for his friends, the LORD restored his fortunes and doubled his previous possessions.

No women as beautiful as Job's daughters could be found in all the land, and their father granted them an inheritance with their brothers.

who does not lend his silver at interest

or take a bribe against the innocent —

the one who does these things will never be shaken.

The LORD thundered from[fn] heaven;

the Most High made his voice heard.[fn]

Nations rage, kingdoms topple;

the earth melts when he lifts his voice.

He reaches down from heaven and saves me,

challenging the one who tramples me.Selah

God sends his faithful love and truth.

The earth has produced its harvest;

God, our God, blesses us.

He rained manna for them to eat;

he gave them grain from heaven.

He gave their crops to the caterpillar

and the fruit of their labor to the locust.

He beat back his foes;

he gave them lasting disgrace.

He spoke to them in a pillar of cloud;

they kept his decrees and the statutes he gave them.

He gave them the lands of the nations,

and they inherited

what other peoples had worked for.

He gave them what they asked for,

but sent a wasting disease among them.

He caused them to be pitied

before all their captors.

He has provided food for those who fear him;

he remembers his covenant forever.

He distributes freely to the poor;

his righteousness endures forever.

His horn will be exalted in honor.

The heavens are the LORD's,[fn]

but the earth he has given to the human race.

Blessed be the LORD,

who has not let us be ripped apart by their teeth.

He gave their land as an inheritance,

an inheritance to his people Israel.

A generous person[fn] will be blessed,

for he shares his food with the poor.

She rises while it is still night

and provides food for her household

and portions[fn] for her female servants.

I applied my mind to examine and explore through wisdom all that is done under heaven. God has given people[fn] this miserable task to keep them occupied.

For to the person who is pleasing in his sight, he gives wisdom, knowledge, and joy; but to the sinner he gives the task of gathering and accumulating in order to give to the one who is pleasing in God's sight. This too is futile and a pursuit of the wind.

I have seen the task that God has given the children of Adam to keep them occupied.

Here is what I have seen to be good: It is appropriate to eat, drink, and experience good in all the labor one does under the sun during the few days of his life God has given him, because that is his reward.

So I commended enjoyment because there is nothing better for a person under the sun than to eat, drink, and enjoy himself, for this will accompany him in his labor during the days of his life that God gives him under the sun.

and the dust returns to the earth as it once was,

and the spirit returns to God who gave it.

While the king is on his couch,[fn]

my perfume[fn] releases its fragrance.

Solomon owned a vineyard in Baal-hamon.

He leased the vineyard to tenants.

Each was to bring for his fruit

one thousand pieces of silver.

Here I am with the children the LORD has given me to be signs and wonders in Israel from the LORD of Armies who dwells on Mount Zion.

Go to God's instruction and testimony! If they do not speak according to this word, there will be no dawn for them.

Who gave Jacob to the robber,[fn]

and Israel to the plunderers?

Was it not the LORD?

Have we not sinned against him?

They were not willing to walk in his ways,

and they would not listen to his instruction.

My inheritance has behaved toward me

like a lion in the forest.

She has roared against me.

Therefore, I hate her.

Jacob's leader will be one of them;

his ruler will issue from him.

I will invite him to me, and he will approach me,

for who would otherwise risk his life to approach me?

This is the LORD's declaration.

When Jeremiah had not yet turned to go, Nebuzaradan said to him,[fn] “Return[fn] to Gedaliah son of Ahikam, son of Shaphan, whom the king of Babylon has appointed over the cities of Judah, and stay with him among the people or go wherever it seems right for you to go.” So the captain of the guards gave him a ration and a gift and released him.

When all the Judeans in Moab and among the Ammonites and in Edom and in all the other lands also heard that the king of Babylon had left a remnant in Judah and had appointed Gedaliah son of Ahikam, son of Shaphan, over them,

For the LORD is going to devastate Babylon;

he will silence her mighty voice.

Their waves roar like a huge torrent;

the tumult of their voice resounds,

Then he blinded Zedekiah and bound him with bronze chains. The king of Babylon brought Zedekiah to Babylon, where he kept him in custody[fn] until his dying day.

He spoke kindly to him and set his throne above the thrones of the kings who were with him in Babylon.

My transgressions have been formed into a yoke,[fn][fn]

fastened together by his hand;

they have been placed on my neck,

and the Lord has broken my strength.

He has handed me over

to those I cannot withstand.

We made a treaty with[fn] Egypt

and with Assyria, to get enough food.

Then the cherub reached out his hand to the fire that was among them. He took some and put it into the hands of the man clothed in linen, who took it and went out.

“Then he took some of the land's seed and put it in a fertile field; he set it like a willow, a plant[fn] by abundant water.

“He doesn't oppress anyone, hold collateral, or commit robbery. He gives his bread to the hungry and covers the naked with clothing.

“The sword is given to be polished,

to be grasped in the hand.

It is sharpened, and it is polished,

to be put in the hand of the slayer.'

“She offered her sexual favors to them; all of them were the elite of Assyria. She defiled herself with all those she lusted after and with all their idols.

The Lord handed King Jehoiakim of Judah over to him, along with some of the vessels from the house of God. Nebuchadnezzar carried them to the land of Babylon,[fn] to the house of his god,[fn] and put the vessels in the treasury of his god.

God had granted Daniel kindness and compassion from the chief eunuch,

God gave these four young men knowledge and understanding in every kind of literature and wisdom. Daniel also understood visions and dreams of every kind.

“Your Majesty, you are king of kings. The God of the heavens has given you sovereignty, power, strength, and glory.

Then the king promoted Daniel and gave him many generous gifts. He made him ruler over the entire province of Babylon and chief governor over all the wise men of Babylon.

“Your Majesty, the Most High God gave sovereignty, greatness, glory, and majesty to your predecessor Nebuchadnezzar.

“until the Ancient of Days arrived and a judgment was given in favor of the holy ones of the Most High, for the time had come, and the holy ones took possession of the kingdom.

and have not obeyed the LORD our God by following his instructions that he set before us through his servants the prophets.

Children of Zion, rejoice and be glad

in the LORD your God,

because he gives you the autumn rain[fn]

for your vindication.[fn]

He sends showers for you,

both autumn and spring rain as before.

He said:

The LORD roars from Zion

and makes his voice heard from Jerusalem;

the pastures of the shepherds mourn,[fn]

and the summit of Carmel withers.

Jonah got up to flee to Tarshish from the LORD's presence. He went down to Joppa and found a ship going to Tarshish. He paid the fare and went down into it to go with them to Tarshish from the LORD's presence.

The mountains see you and shudder;

a downpour of water sweeps by.

The deep roars with its voice

and lifts its waves[fn] high.
