“I, the LORD, have spoken. I swear that I will do this to the entire evil community that has conspired against me. They will come to an end in the wilderness, and there they will die.”
“So I spoke to you, but you didn't listen. You rebelled against the LORD's command and defiantly went up into the hill country.

LORD my God, you have done many things —
your wondrous works and your plans for us;
none can compare with you.

I said to myself, “See, I have amassed wisdom far beyond all those who were over Jerusalem before me, and my mind has thoroughly grasped[fn] wisdom and knowledge.”
So I said to myself, “What happens to the fool will also happen to me. Why then have I been overly wise? ” And I said to myself that this is also futile.
“I call a bird of prey[fn] from the east,
a man for my purpose from a far country.
Yes, I have spoken; so I will also bring it about.
I have planned it; I will also do it.
“I — I have spoken;
yes, I have called him;
I have brought him,
and he will succeed in his mission.
“Approach me and listen to this.
From the beginning I have not spoken in secret;
from the time anything existed, I was there.”
And now the Lord GOD
has sent me and his Spirit.
“I will destine you for the sword,
and all of you will kneel down to be slaughtered,
because I called and you did not answer,
I spoke and you did not hear;
you did what was evil in my sight
and chose what I did not delight in.”
So I will choose their punishment,
and I will bring on them what they dread
because I called and no one answered;
I spoke and they did not listen;
they did what was evil in my sight
and chose what I did not delight in.
“Because of this, the earth will mourn;
the skies above will grow dark.
I have spoken; I have planned,
and I will not relent or turn back from it.”
“Now, because you have done all these things — this is the LORD's declaration — and because I have spoken to you time and time again[fn] but you wouldn't listen, and I have called to you, but you wouldn't answer,
“for when I brought your ancestors out of the land of Egypt, I did not speak with them or command them concerning burnt offering and sacrifice.
But the LORD said to me, “These prophets are prophesying a lie in my name. I did not send them, nor did I command them or speak to them. They are prophesying to you a false vision, worthless divination, the deceit of their own minds.
“However, if it does what is evil in my sight by not listening to me, I will relent concerning the good I had said I would do to it.
“They have built high places to Baal on which to burn their children in the fire as burnt offerings to Baal, something I have never commanded or mentioned; I never entertained the thought.[fn]
“This is what the LORD of Armies, the God of Israel, says: ‘I am about to bring on this city — and on all its cities — every disaster that I spoke against it, for they have become obstinate, not obeying my words.' ”
I spoke to you when you were secure.
You said, “I will not listen.”
This has been your way since youth;
indeed, you have never listened to me.
I did not send out these prophets,
yet they ran.
I did not speak to them,
yet they prophesied.
“From the thirteenth year of Josiah son of Amon, king of Judah, until this very day — twenty-three years — the word of the LORD has come to me, and I have spoken to you time and time again,[fn] but you have not obeyed.
“I will bring on that land all my words I have spoken against it, all that is written in this book that Jeremiah prophesied against all the nations.
I spoke to King Zedekiah of Judah in the same way: “Put your necks under the yoke of the king of Babylon, serve him and his people, and live!
Then I spoke to the priests and all these people, saying, “This is what the LORD says: ‘Do not listen to the words of your prophets. They are prophesying to you, claiming, “Look, very soon now the articles of the LORD's temple will be brought back from Babylon.” They are prophesying a lie to you.
“For this is what the LORD says: Just as I have brought all this terrible disaster on these people, so am I about to bring on them all the good I am promising them.
“you will die peacefully. There will be a burning ceremony for you just like the burning ceremonies for your ancestors, the kings of old who came before you. “Oh, master! ” will be the lament for you, for I have spoken this word. This is the LORD's declaration.' ”
“The words of Jonadab, son of Rechab, have been carried out. He commanded his descendants not to drink wine, and they have not drunk to this day because they have obeyed their ancestor's command. But I have spoken to you time and time again,[fn] and you have not obeyed me!
Therefore, this is what the LORD, the God of Armies, the God of Israel, says: I will certainly bring on Judah and on all the residents of Jerusalem all the disaster I have pronounced against them because I have spoken to them, but they have not obeyed, and I have called to them, but they did not answer.' ”
I will punish him, his descendants, and his officers for their iniquity. I will bring on them, on the residents of Jerusalem, and on the people of Judah all the disaster, which I warned them about but they did not listen.' ”
I spoke to the people in the morning, and my wife died in the evening. The next morning I did just as I was commanded.
“I will turn you into a bare rock, and you will be a place to spread nets. You will never be rebuilt, for I, the LORD, have spoken.” This is the declaration of the Lord GOD.
You will die the death of the uncircumcised
at the hands of strangers.
For I have spoken.
This is the declaration of the Lord GOD.' ”
“I, the LORD, will be their God, and my servant David will be a prince among them. I, the LORD, have spoken.
“Therefore, prophesy concerning Israel's land, and say to the mountains and hills, to the ravines and valleys: This is what the Lord GOD says: Look, I speak in my burning zeal because you have endured the insults of the nations.
Then the nations that remain around you will know that I, the LORD, have rebuilt what was demolished and have replanted what was desolate. I, the LORD, have spoken and I will do it.
“ ‘This is what the Lord GOD says: Are you the one I spoke about in former times through my servants, the prophets of Israel, who for years prophesied in those times that I would bring you against them?
“I swear in my zeal and fiery wrath: On that day there will be a great earthquake in the land of Israel.
“You will fall on the open field, for I have spoken. This is the declaration of the Lord GOD.
“Yes, it is coming, and it will happen. This is the declaration of the Lord GOD. This is the day I have spoken about.
Suddenly one with human likeness touched my lips. I opened my mouth and said to the one standing in front of me, “My lord, because of the vision, anguish overwhelms me and I am powerless.
