And he said to him, “All right,[fn] I'll grant your request[fn] about this matter too and will not demolish the town you mentioned.

“Remember your servants Abraham, Isaac, and Israel ​— ​you swore to them by yourself and declared, ‘I will make your offspring as numerous as the stars of the sky and will give your offspring all this land that I have promised, and they will inherit it forever.' ”

“You replied to me, ‘What you propose to do is good.'

“Be careful to do whatever comes from your lips, because you have freely vowed what you promised to the LORD your God.

Then Gideon said to God, “If you will deliver Israel by me, as you said,

Then Delilah said to Samson, “You have mocked me and told me lies! Won't you please tell me how you can be tied up? ”

Then Delilah said to Samson, “You have mocked me all along and told me lies! Tell me how you can be tied up.”

He told her, “If you weave the seven braids on my head into the fabric on a loom ​— ​”[fn]

“My lord,” she said, “I have found favor with you, for you have comforted and encouraged your servant, although I am not like one of your female servants.”

What you have done so far[fn] was a little thing to you, Lord GOD, for you have also spoken about your servant's house in the distant future. And this is a revelation[fn] for mankind, Lord GOD.

Now, LORD God, fulfill the promise forever that you have made to your servant and his house. Do as you have promised,

Lord GOD, you are God; your words are true, and you have promised this good thing to your servant.

Shimei said to the king, “The sentence is fair; your servant will do as my lord the king has spoken.” And Shimei lived in Jerusalem for a long time.

You have kept what you promised

to your servant, my father David.

You spoke directly to him

and you fulfilled your promise by your power

as it is today.

For you, Lord GOD, have set them apart as your inheritance

from all peoples of the earth,

as you spoke through your servant Moses

when you brought our ancestors out of Egypt.

“Then you call on the name of your god, and I will call on the name of the LORD. The God who answers with fire, he is God.”

All the people answered, “That's fine.”

Then the king of Israel answered, “Just as you say, my lord the king: I am yours, along with all that I have.”

This was a little thing to you,[fn] God, for you have spoken about your servant's house in the distant future. You regard me as a man of distinction,[fn] LORD God.

Now, LORD, let the word that you have spoken concerning your servant and his house be confirmed forever, and do as you have promised.

LORD, you indeed are God, and you have promised this good thing to your servant.

You have kept what you promised

to your servant, my father David.

You spoke directly to him,

and you fulfilled your promise by your power,

as it is today.

You came down on Mount Sinai,

and spoke to them from heaven.

You gave them impartial ordinances, reliable instructions,

and good statutes and commands.

The king told Haman, “Hurry, and do just as you proposed. Take a garment and a horse for Mordecai the Jew, who is sitting at the King's Gate. Do not leave out anything you have suggested.”

“You speak as a foolish woman speaks,” he told her. “Should we accept only good from God and not adversity? ” Throughout all this Job did not sin in what he said.[fn]

You once spoke in a vision to your faithful ones

This is what you have said,

but you have done the evil things

you are capable of.

“Look! Siege ramps have come against the city to capture it, and the city, as a result of the sword, famine, and plague, has been handed over to the Chaldeans who are fighting against it. What you have spoken has happened. Look, you can see it!

“As for the word you spoke to us in the name of the LORD, we are not going to listen to you!

“Say, ‘LORD, you have threatened to cut off this place so that no one will live in it ​— ​people or animals. Indeed, it will remain desolate forever.'

“If I say to the wicked person, ‘You will surely die,' but you do not warn him ​— ​you don't speak out to warn him about his wicked way in order to save his life ​— ​that wicked person will die for his iniquity. Yet I will hold you responsible for his blood.

“If a man still prophesies, his father and his mother who bore him will say to him, ‘You cannot remain alive because you have spoken a lie in the name of the LORD.' When he prophesies, his father and his mother who bore him will pierce him through.
