“Brood of vipers! How can you speak good things when you are evil? For the mouth speaks from the overflow of the heart.

“Why does he speak like this? He's blaspheming! Who can forgive sins but God alone? ”

“Truly I tell you, if anyone says to this mountain, ‘Be lifted up and thrown into the sea,' and does not doubt in his heart, but believes that what he says will happen, it will be done for him.

Then the scribes and the Pharisees began to think to themselves, “Who is this man who speaks blasphemies? Who can forgive sins but God alone? ”

“A good person produces good out of the good stored up in his heart. An evil person produces evil out of the evil stored up in his heart, for his mouth speaks from the overflow of the heart.

The one who comes from above is above all. The one who is from the earth is earthly and speaks in earthly terms.[fn] The one who comes from heaven is above all.

For the one whom God sent speaks God's words, since he[fn] gives the Spirit without measure.

“Yet, look, he's speaking publicly and they're saying nothing to him. Can it be true that the authorities know he is the Messiah?

“You are of your father the devil, and you want to carry out your father's desires. He was a murderer from the beginning and does not stand in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he tells a lie, he speaks from his own nature,[fn] because he is a liar and the father of lies.

They said, “What is this he is saying,[fn] ‘In a little while'? We don't know what he's talking about.”

Now we know that whatever the law says, it speaks to those who are subject to the law,[fn] so that every mouth may be shut and the whole world may become subject to God's judgment.[fn]

For the person who speaks in a tongue[fn] is not speaking to people but to God, since no one understands him; he speaks mysteries in the Spirit.[fn]

If anyone speaks in a tongue, there are to be only two, or at the most three, each in turn, and let someone interpret.

By faith Abel offered to God a better sacrifice than Cain did. By faith he was approved as a righteous man, because God approved his gifts, and even though he is dead, he still speaks through his faith.

If anyone speaks, let it be as one who speaks God's words; if anyone serves, let it be from the strength God provides, so that God may be glorified through Jesus Christ in everything. To him be the glory and the power forever and ever. Amen.

These people are discontented grumblers, living according to their desires; their mouths utter arrogant words, flattering people for their own advantage.
