Then a demon-possessed man who was blind and unable to speak was brought to him. He healed him, so that the man[fn] could both speak and see.
“Brood of vipers! How can you speak good things when you are evil? For the mouth speaks from the overflow of the heart.
and he healed many who were sick with various diseases and drove out many demons. And he would not permit the demons to speak, because they knew him.
They were extremely astonished and said, “He has done everything well. He even makes the deaf hear and the mute speak.”
Also, demons were coming out of many, shouting and saying, “You are the Son of God! ” But he rebuked them and would not allow them to speak, because they knew he was the Messiah.
“I have many things to say and to judge about you, but the one who sent me is true, and what I have heard from him — these things I tell the world.”
Then they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in different tongues,[fn] as the Spirit enabled them.
“But so that this does not spread any further among the people, let's threaten them against speaking to anyone in this name again.”
“And now, Lord, consider their threats, and grant that your servants may speak your word with all boldness,
After they called in the apostles and had them flogged, they ordered them not to speak in the name of Jesus and released them.
“As I began to speak, the Holy Spirit came down on them, just as on us at the beginning.
For I would not dare say anything except what Christ has accomplished through me by word and deed for the obedience of the Gentiles,
I wish all of you spoke in tongues,[fn] but even more that you prophesied. The person who prophesies is greater than the person who speaks in tongues, unless he interprets so that the church may be built up.
the women[fn] should be silent in the churches, for they are not permitted to speak, but are to submit themselves, as the law also says.
If they want to learn something, let them ask their own husbands at home, since it is disgraceful for a woman to speak in the church.
So then, my brothers and sisters, be eager to prophesy, and do not forbid speaking in tongues.
Most of the brothers have gained confidence in the Lord from my imprisonment and dare even more to speak the word[fn] fearlessly.
