The disciples were astonished at his words. Again Jesus said to them, “Children, how hard it is[fn] to enter the kingdom of God!

“Now listen. You will become silent and unable to speak until the day these things take place, because you did not believe my words, which will be fulfilled in their proper time.”

They were all speaking well of him[fn] and were amazed by the gracious words that came from his mouth; yet they said, “Isn't this Joseph's son? ”

So he kept asking him questions, but Jesus did not answer him.

With many other words he testified and strongly urged them, saying, “Be saved from this corrupt[fn] generation! ”

“So Moses was educated in all the wisdom of the Egyptians and was powerful in his speech and actions.

“Since we have heard that some without our authorization went out from us and troubled you with their words and unsettled your hearts,[fn]

Absolutely not! Let God be true, even though everyone is a liar, as it is written:

That you may be justified in your words

and triumph when you judge.

My speech and my preaching were not with persuasive words of wisdom[fn] but with a demonstration of the Spirit's power,

We also speak these things, not in words taught by human wisdom, but in those taught by the Spirit, explaining spiritual things to spiritual people.[fn]

Let no one deceive you with empty arguments, for God's wrath is coming on the disobedient[fn] because of these things.

Therefore encourage[fn] one another with these words.

If you point these things out to the brothers and sisters, you will be a good servant of Christ Jesus, nourished by the words of the faith and the good teaching that you have followed.

If anyone teaches false doctrine and does not agree with the sound teaching of our Lord Jesus Christ and with the teaching that promotes godliness,

Watch out for him yourself because he strongly opposed our words.

They will exploit you in their greed with made-up stories. Their condemnation, pronounced long ago, is not idle, and their destruction does not sleep.

This is why, if I come, I will remind him of the works he is doing, slandering us with malicious words. And he is not satisfied with that! He not only refuses to welcome fellow believers, but he even stops those who want to do so and expels them from the church.
