LXX Concordance for εἶδεν

God saw that the light was good, and God separated the light from the darkness.

God called the expanse “sky.”[fn] Evening came and then morning: the second day.

God called the dry land “earth,” and the gathering of the water he called “seas.” And God saw that it was good.

The earth produced vegetation: seed-bearing plants according to their kinds and trees bearing fruit with seed in it according to their kinds. And God saw that it was good.

to rule the day and the night, and to separate light from darkness. And God saw that it was good.

So God created the large sea-creatures and every living creature that moves and swarms in the water, according to their kinds. He also created every winged creature according to its kind. And God saw that it was good.

So God made the wildlife of the earth according to their kinds, the livestock according to their kinds, and all the creatures that crawl on the ground according to their kinds. And God saw that it was good.

God saw all that he had made, and it was very good indeed. Evening came and then morning: the sixth day.

The woman saw that the tree was good for food and delightful to look at, and that it was desirable for obtaining wisdom. So she took some of its fruit and ate it; she also gave some to her husband, who was with her, and he ate it.

God saw how corrupt the earth was, for every creature had corrupted its way on the earth.

In the six hundred first year,[fn] in the first month, on the first day of the month, the water that had covered the earth was dried up. Then Noah removed the ark's cover and saw that the surface of the ground was drying.

Ham, the father of Canaan, saw his father naked and told his two brothers outside.

Lot looked out and saw that the entire plain[fn] of the Jordan as far as Zoar was well watered everywhere like the LORD's garden and the land of Egypt. (This was before the LORD destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah.)

He slept with[fn] Hagar, and she became pregnant. When she saw that she was pregnant, her mistress became contemptible to her.

He looked up, and he saw three men standing near him. When he saw them, he ran from the entrance of the tent to meet them, bowed to the ground,

He looked down toward Sodom and Gomorrah and all the land of the plain, and he saw that smoke was going up from the land like the smoke of a furnace.

Then God opened her eyes, and she saw a well. So she went and filled the waterskin and gave the boy a drink.

On the third day Abraham looked up and saw the place in the distance.

Abraham looked up and saw a ram[fn] caught in the thicket by its horns. So Abraham went and took the ram and offered it as a burnt offering in place of his son.

As soon as he had seen the ring and the bracelets on his sister's wrists, and when he had heard his sister Rebekah's words ​— ​“The man said this to me! ” ​— ​he went to the man. He was standing there by the camels at the spring.

In the early evening Isaac went out to walk[fn] in the field, and looking up he saw camels coming.

When Isaac had been there for some time, Abimelech king of the Philistines looked down from the window and was surprised to see[fn] Isaac caressing his wife Rebekah.

Esau noticed that Isaac blessed Jacob and sent him to Paddan-aram to get a wife there. When he blessed him, Isaac commanded Jacob, “Do not marry a Canaanite girl.”

Esau realized that his father Isaac disapproved of the Canaanite women,

As soon as Jacob saw his uncle Laban's daughter Rachel with his sheep,[fn] he went up and rolled the stone from the opening and watered his uncle Laban's sheep.

When Leah saw that she had stopped having children, she took her slave Zilpah and gave her to Jacob as a wife.

And Jacob saw from Laban's face that his attitude toward him was not the same as before.

“If the God of my father, the God of Abraham, the Fear of Isaac, had not been with me, certainly now you would have sent me off empty-handed. But God has seen my affliction and my hard work,[fn] and he issued his verdict last night.”

Jacob went on his way, and God's angels met him.

When the man saw that he could not defeat him, he struck Jacob's hip socket as they wrestled and dislocated his hip.

Now Jacob looked up and saw Esau coming toward him with four hundred men. So he divided the children among Leah, Rachel, and the two slave women.

When Esau looked up and saw the women and children, he asked, “Who are these with you? ”

He answered, “The children God has graciously given your servant.”

When Shechem ​— ​son of Hamor the Hivite, who was the region's chieftain ​— ​saw her, he took her and raped her.

Then he had another dream and told it to his brothers. “Look,” he said, “I had another dream, and this time the sun, moon, and eleven stars were bowing down to me.”

There Judah saw the daughter of a Canaanite named Shua; he took her as a wife and slept with her.

So she took off her widow's clothes, veiled her face, covered herself, and sat at the entrance to Enaim, which is on the way to Timnah. For she saw that, though Shelah had grown up, she had not been given to him as a wife.

When she saw that he had left his garment with her and had run outside,

When Joseph came to them in the morning, he saw that they looked distraught.

When the chief baker saw that the interpretation was positive, he said to Joseph, “I also had a dream. Three baskets of white bread were on my head.

At the end of two years Pharaoh had a dream: He was standing beside the Nile,

Joseph remembered his dreams about them and said to them, “You are spies. You have come to see the weakness[fn] of the land.”

At the place where they lodged for the night, one of them opened his sack to get feed for his donkey, and he saw his silver there at the top of his bag.

When Joseph saw Benjamin with them, he said to his steward, “Take the men to my house. Slaughter an animal and prepare it, for they will eat with me at noon.”

When he looked up and saw his brother Benjamin, his mother's son, he asked, “Is this your youngest brother that you told me about? ” Then he said, “May God be gracious to you, my son.”

He saw Ephraim's sons to the third generation; the sons of Manasseh's son Machir were recognized by[fn][fn] Joseph.

When the LORD saw that he had gone over to look, God called out to him from the bush, “Moses, Moses! ”

“Here I am,” he answered.

The people believed, and when they heard that the LORD had paid attention to them and that he had seen their misery, they knelt low and worshiped.

One person could not see another, and for three days they did not move from where they were. Yet all the Israelites had light where they lived.

That day the LORD saved Israel from the power of the Egyptians, and Israel saw the Egyptians dead on the seashore.

When Aaron and all the Israelites saw Moses, the skin of his face shone! They were afraid to come near him.

Moses inspected all the work they had accomplished. They had done just as the LORD commanded. Then Moses blessed them.

Fire came from the LORD and consumed the burnt offering and the fat portions on the altar. And when all the people saw it, they shouted and fell facedown.

“I speak with him directly,[fn]

openly, and not in riddles;

he sees the form of the LORD.

So why were you not afraid to speak against my servant Moses? ”

When the whole community saw that Aaron had passed away, the entire house of Israel mourned for him thirty days.

the oracle of one who hears the sayings of God,

who sees a vision from the Almighty,

who falls into a trance with his eyes uncovered:

“So we called out to the LORD, the God of our ancestors, and the LORD heard our cry and saw our misery, hardship, and oppression.

When the LORD saw this, he despised them,

angered by his sons and daughters.

The LORD will indeed vindicate his people

and have compassion on his servants

when he sees that their strength is gone

and no one is left ​— ​slave or free.[fn]

He chose the best part for himself,

because a ruler's portion was assigned there for him.

He came with the leaders of the people;

he carried out the LORD's justice

and his ordinances for Israel.

When Joshua was near Jericho, he looked up and saw a man standing in front of him with a drawn sword in his hand. Joshua approached him and asked, “Are you for us or for our enemies? ”

When the king of Ai saw the Israelites, the men of the city hurried and went out early in the morning so that he and all his people could engage Israel in battle at a suitable place facing the Arabah. But he did not know there was an ambush waiting for him behind the city.

When Gideon realized that he was the angel of the LORD, he said, “Oh no, Lord GOD! I have seen the angel of the LORD face to face! ”

When Gaal saw the troops, he said to Zebul, “Look, troops are coming down from the mountaintops! ” But Zebul said to him, “The shadows of the mountains look like men to you.”

He took the troops, divided them into three companies, and waited in ambush in the countryside. He looked, and the people were coming out of the city, so he arose against them and struck them down.

When the Israelites saw that Abimelech was dead, they all went home.

When he saw her, he tore his clothes and said, “No! Not my daughter! You have devastated me! You have brought great misery on me.[fn] I have given my word to the LORD and cannot take it back.”

Samson went down to Timnah and saw a young Philistine woman there.

Samson went to Gaza, where he saw a prostitute and went to bed with her.

When Delilah realized that he had told her the whole truth, she sent this message to the Philistine leaders: “Come one more time, for he has told me the whole truth.” The Philistine leaders came to her and brought the silver with them.

When the people saw him, they praised their god and said:

Our god has handed over to us

our enemy who destroyed our land

and who multiplied our dead.

The Danites went on their way, and Micah turned to go back home, because he saw that they were stronger than he was.

Then her husband got up and followed her to speak kindly to her and bring her back. He had his servant with him and a pair of donkeys. So she brought him to her father's house, and when the girl's father saw him, he gladly welcomed him.

When he looked up and saw the traveler in the city square, the old man asked, “Where are you going, and where do you come from? ”

Then the Benjaminites realized they had been defeated.

The men of Israel had retreated before Benjamin, because they were confident in the ambush they had set against Gibeah.

Then the men of Israel returned, and the men of Benjamin were terrified when they realized that disaster had struck them.

She picked up the grain and went into the town, where her mother-in-law saw what she had gleaned. She brought out what she had left over from her meal and gave it to her.

When Samuel saw Saul, the LORD told him, “Here is the man I told you about; he will govern my people.”

The men of Israel saw that they were in trouble because the troops were in a difficult situation. They hid in caves, in thickets, among rocks, and in holes and cisterns.

When they arrived, Samuel saw Eliab and said, “Certainly the LORD's anointed one is here before him.”

When the Philistine looked and saw David, he despised him because he was just a youth, healthy[fn] and handsome.

When Saul observed that David was very successful, he dreaded him.

Saul realized[fn] that the LORD was with David and that his daughter Michal loved him,

David was in the Wilderness of Ziph in Horesh when he saw that Saul had come out to take his life.

When Abigail saw David, she quickly got off the donkey and knelt down with her face to the ground and paid homage to David.

Saul camped beside the road at the hill of Hachilah opposite Jeshimon. David was living in the wilderness and discovered Saul had come there after him.

When Saul saw the Philistine camp, he was afraid and his heart pounded.

When the woman saw Samuel, she screamed, and then she asked Saul, “Why did you deceive me? You are Saul! ”

The woman came over to Saul, and she saw that he was terrified and said to him, “Look, your servant has obeyed you. I took my life in my hands and did what you told me to do.

When his armor-bearer saw that Saul was dead, he also fell on his own sword and died with him.

As the ark of the LORD was entering the city of David, Saul's daughter Michal looked down from the window and saw King David leaping and dancing before the LORD, and she despised him in her heart.

When Joab saw that there was a battle line in front of him and another behind him, he chose some of Israel's finest young men and lined up in formation to engage the Arameans.

When the Arameans saw that they had been defeated by Israel, they regrouped.

One evening David got up from his bed and strolled around on the roof of the palace. From the roof he saw a woman bathing ​— ​a very beautiful woman.

Meanwhile, Absalom had fled. When the young man who was standing watch looked up, there were many people coming from the road west of him from the side of the mountain.[fn]

However, the king added, “He may return to his house, but he may not see my face.” So Absalom returned to his house, but he did not see the king.[fn]

Absalom resided in Jerusalem two years but never saw the king.

However, a young man did see them and informed Absalom. So the two left quickly and came to the house of a man in Bahurim. He had a well in his courtyard, and they climbed down into it.

When Ahithophel realized that his advice had not been followed, he saddled his donkey and set out for his house in his hometown. He set his house in order and hanged himself. So he died and was buried in his father's tomb.

One of the men saw him and informed Joab. He said, “I just saw Absalom hanging in an oak tree! ”

David was sitting between the city gates when the watchman went up to the roof of the city gate and over to the wall. The watchman looked out and saw a man running alone.

the watchman saw another man running. He called out to the gatekeeper, “Look! Another man is running alone! ”

“This one is also bringing good news,” said the king.

Now Amasa had been writhing in his blood in the middle of the highway, and the man had seen that all the troops stopped. So he moved Amasa from the highway to the field and threw a garment over him because he realized that all those who encountered Amasa were stopping.

Araunah looked down and saw the king and his servants coming toward him, so he went out and paid homage to the king with his face to the ground.

When the queen of Sheba observed all of Solomon's wisdom, the palace he had built,

Now the man Jeroboam was capable, and Solomon noticed the young man because he was getting things done. So he appointed him over the entire labor force of the house of Joseph.

When Zimri saw that the city was captured, he entered the citadel of the royal palace and burned it down over himself. He died

When Ahab saw Elijah, Ahab said to him, “Is that you, the one ruining Israel? ”

As Elisha watched, he kept crying out, “My father, my father, the chariots and horsemen of Israel! ”

When he could see him no longer, he took hold of his own clothes, tore them in two,

He turned around, looked at them, and cursed them in the name of the LORD. Then two female bears came out of the woods and mauled forty-two of the children.

When they got up early in the morning, the sun was shining on the water, and the Moabites saw that the water across from them was red like blood.

When the king of Moab saw that the battle was too fierce for him, he took seven hundred swordsmen with him to try to break through to the king of Edom, but they could not do it.

So she came to the man of God at Mount Carmel.

When the man of God saw her at a distance, he said to his attendant Gehazi, “Look, there's the Shunammite woman.

So Gehazi pursued Naaman. When Naaman saw someone running after him, he got down from the chariot to meet him and asked, “Is everything all right? ”

Then Elisha prayed, “LORD, please open his eyes and let him see.” So the LORD opened the servant's eyes, and he saw that the mountain was covered with horses and chariots of fire all around Elisha.

When the king of Israel saw them, he said to Elisha, “Should I kill them, should I kill them, my father? ”

When the king heard the woman's words, he tore his clothes. Then, as he was passing by on the wall, the people saw that there was sackcloth under his clothes next to his skin.

Now the watchman was standing on the tower in Jezreel. He saw Jehu's mob approaching and shouted, “I see a mob! ”

Joram responded, “Choose a rider and send him to meet them and have him ask, ‘Do you come in peace? ' ”

When Joram saw Jehu he asked, “Do you come in peace, Jehu? ”

He answered, “What peace can there be as long as there is so much prostitution and sorcery from your mother Jezebel? ”

When King Ahaziah of Judah saw what was happening, he fled up the road toward Beth-haggan. Jehu pursued him, shouting, “Shoot him too! ” So they shot him in his chariot[fn] at Gur Pass near Ibleam, but he fled to Megiddo and died there.

He looked up toward the window and said, “Who is on my side? Who? ” Two or three eunuchs looked down at him,

When Athaliah, Ahaziah's mother, saw that her son was dead, she proceeded to annihilate all the royal heirs.

She looked, and there was the king standing by the pillar according to the custom. The commanders and the trumpeters were by the king, and all the people of the land were rejoicing and blowing trumpets. Athaliah tore her clothes and screamed “Treason! Treason! ”

Then Jehoahaz sought the LORD's favor, and the LORD heard him, for he saw the oppression the king of Aram inflicted on Israel.

For the LORD saw that the affliction of Israel was very bitter for both slaves and free people.[fn] There was no one to help Israel.

King Ahaz went to Damascus to meet King Tiglath-pileser of Assyria. When he saw the altar that was in Damascus, King Ahaz sent a model of the altar and complete plans for its construction to the priest Uriah.

When the king came back from Damascus, he saw the altar. Then he approached the altar and ascended it.[fn]

As Josiah turned, he saw the tombs there on the mountain. He sent someone to take the bones out of the tombs, and he burned them on the altar. He defiled it according to the word of the LORD proclaimed by the man of God[fn] who proclaimed these things.

When his armor-bearer saw that Saul was dead, he also fell on his own sword and died.

When all the men of Israel in the valley saw that the army had fled and that Saul and his sons were dead, they abandoned their cities and fled. So the Philistines came and settled in them.

As the ark of the covenant of the LORD was entering the city of David, Saul's daughter Michal looked down from the window and saw King David leaping[fn] and dancing, and she despised him in her heart.

When Joab saw that there was a battle line in front of him and another behind him, he chose some of Israel's finest young men[fn] and lined up in formation to engage the Arameans.

When the Arameans realized that they had been defeated by Israel, they sent messengers to summon the Arameans who were beyond the Euphrates River. They were led by Shophach, the commander of Hadadezer's army.

Then God sent an angel to Jerusalem to destroy it, but when the angel was about to destroy the city,[fn] the LORD looked, relented concerning the destruction, and said to the angel who was destroying the people, “Enough, withdraw your hand now! ” The angel of the LORD was then standing at the threshing floor of Ornan[fn] the Jebusite.

Ornan was threshing wheat when he turned and saw the angel. His four sons, who were with him, hid.

When the queen of Sheba observed Solomon's wisdom, the palace he had built,

When Judah came to a place overlooking the wilderness, they looked for the large army, but there were only corpses lying on the ground; nobody had escaped.

When Athaliah, Ahaziah's mother, saw that her son was dead, she proceeded to annihilate all the royal heirs[fn] of the house of Judah.

As she looked, there was the king standing by his pillar[fn] at the entrance. The commanders and the trumpeters were by the king, and all the people of the land were rejoicing and blowing trumpets while the singers with musical instruments were leading the praise. Athaliah tore her clothes and screamed, “Treason! Treason! ”

Hezekiah saw that Sennacherib had come and that he planned[fn] war on Jerusalem,

“Why did you bring me out of the womb?

I should have died and never been seen.

he considered wisdom and evaluated it;

he established it and examined it.

But when he saw that the three men could not answer Job, he became angry.

All mankind has seen it;

people have looked at it from a distance.

Have you ever in your life commanded the morning

or assigned the dawn its place,

Job lived 140 years after this and saw his children and their children to the fourth generation.

For the LORD is righteous; he loves righteous deeds.

The upright will see his face.

The LORD looks down from heaven;

he observes everyone.

His lightning lights up the world;

the earth sees and trembles.

When he heard their cry,

he took note of their distress,

The sea looked and fled;

the Jordan turned back.

Happy is a man who finds wisdom

and who acquires understanding,

I said to myself, “See, I have amassed wisdom far beyond all those who were over Jerusalem before me, and my mind has thoroughly grasped[fn] wisdom and knowledge.”

But better than either of them is the one who has not yet existed, who has not seen the evil activity that is done under the sun.

Though a stillborn child does not see the sun and is not conscious, it has more rest than he.

Indeed, I took all this to heart and explained it all: The righteous, the wise, and their works are in God's hands. People don't know whether to expect love or hate. Everything lies ahead of them.

The vision concerning Judah and Jerusalem that Isaiah son of Amoz saw during the reigns[fn] of Kings Uzziah, Jotham, Ahaz, and Hezekiah of Judah.

A pronouncement concerning Babylon that Isaiah son of Amoz saw:

For people will live on Zion in Jerusalem. You will never weep again; he will show favor to you at the sound of your outcry; as soon as he hears, he will answer you.

Truth is missing,

and whoever turns from evil is plundered.

The LORD saw that there was no justice,

and he was offended.

“I thought, ‘After she has done all these things, she will return to me.'  But she didn't return, and her treacherous sister Judah saw it.

For who has stood in the council of the LORD

to see and hear his word?

Who has paid attention to his word and obeyed?

The adversary has seized

all her precious belongings.

She has even seen the nations

enter her sanctuary —

those you had forbidden

to enter your assembly.

“When she saw that she waited in vain,

that her hope was lost,

she took another of her cubs

and made him a young lion.

“It had strong branches, fit for the scepters of rulers;

its height towered among the clouds.[fn]

So it was conspicuous for its height

as well as its many branches.

“Now her sister Oholibah saw this, but she was even more depraved in her lust than Oholah, and made her promiscuous acts worse than those of her sister.

“But she increased her promiscuity when she saw male figures carved on the wall, images of the Chaldeans, engraved in bright red,

“The king saw a watcher, a holy one, coming down from heaven and saying, ‘Cut down the tree and destroy it, but leave the stump with its roots in the ground and with a band of iron and bronze around it in the tender grass of the field. Let him be drenched with dew from the sky and share food with the wild animals for seven periods of time.'

In the first year of King Belshazzar of Babylon, Daniel had a dream with visions in his mind as he was lying in his bed. He wrote down the dream, and here is the summary[fn] of his account.

When Ephraim saw his sickness

and Judah his wound,

Ephraim went to Assyria

and sent a delegation to the great king.[fn]

But he cannot cure you or heal your wound.

The words of Amos, who was one of the sheep breeders[fn] from Tekoa ​— ​what he saw regarding Israel in the days of King Uzziah of Judah and Jeroboam son of Jehoash, king of Israel, two years before the earthquake.

God saw their actions ​— ​that they had turned from their evil ways ​— ​so God relented from the disaster he had threatened them with. And he did not do it.

The word of the LORD that came to Micah the Moreshite ​— ​what he saw regarding Samaria and Jerusalem in the days of Jotham, Ahaz, and Hezekiah, kings of Judah.

The pronouncement that the prophet Habakkuk saw.

“‘Who is left among you who saw this house in its former glory? How does it look to you now? Doesn't it seem to you like nothing by comparison?
