“You will be hated by everyone because of my name. But the one who endures to the end will be saved.
Peter was following him at a distance right to the high priest's courtyard. He went in and was sitting with the servants to see the outcome.
“You will be hated by everyone because of my name, but the one who endures to the end will be saved.
“For I tell you, what is written must be fulfilled in me:[fn] And he was counted among the lawless. Yes, what is written about me is coming to its fulfillment.”
Before the Passover Festival, Jesus knew that his hour had come to depart from this world to the Father. Having loved his own who were in the world, he loved them to the end.
But now, since you have been set free from sin and have become enslaved to God, you have your fruit, which results in sanctification — and the outcome is eternal life!
Pay your obligations to everyone: taxes to those you owe taxes, tolls to those you owe tolls, respect to those you owe respect, and honor to those you owe honor.
We are not like Moses, who used to put a veil over his face to prevent the Israelites from gazing steadily until the end[fn] of the glory of what was being set aside,
by keeping us from speaking to the Gentiles so that they may be saved. As a result, they are constantly filling up their sins to the limit, and wrath has overtaken them at last.[fn]
Without father, mother, or genealogy, having neither beginning of days nor end of life, but resembling the Son of God, he remains a priest forever.
See, we count as blessed those who have endured.[fn] You have heard of Job's endurance and have seen the outcome that the Lord brought about — the Lord is compassionate and merciful.
“You are going to hear of wars and rumors of wars. See that you are not alarmed, because these things must take place, but the end is not yet.
“This good news of the kingdom will be proclaimed in all the world[fn] as a testimony to all nations, and then the end will come.
“When you hear of wars and rumors of wars, don't be alarmed; these things must take place, but it is not yet the end.
“When you hear of wars and rebellions,[fn] don't be alarmed. Indeed, it is necessary that these things take place first, but the end won't come right away.”
So what fruit was produced[fn] then from the things you are now ashamed of? The outcome of those things is death.
Then comes the end, when he hands over the kingdom to God the Father, when he abolishes all rule and all authority and power.
So it is no great surprise if his servants also disguise themselves as servants of righteousness. Their end will be according to their works.
Their end is destruction; their god is their stomach; their glory is in their shame; and they are focused on earthly things.
Now the goal of our instruction is love that comes from a pure heart, a good conscience, and a sincere faith.
But if it produces thorns and thistles, it is worthless and about to be cursed, and at the end will be burned.
For the time has come for judgment to begin with God's household, and if it begins with us, what will the outcome be for those who disobey the gospel of God?
Then he said to me, “It is done! I am the Alpha and the Omega, the beginning and the end. I will freely give to the thirsty from the spring of the water of life.
