When he saw many of the Pharisees and Sadducees coming to his baptism, he said to them, “Brood of vipers! Who warned you to flee from the coming wrath?

“And don't presume to say to yourselves, ‘We have Abraham as our father.' For I tell you that God is able to raise up children for Abraham from these stones.

“For truly I tell you, until heaven and earth pass away, not the smallest letter[fn] or one stroke of a letter will pass away from the law until all things are accomplished.

“For I tell you, unless your righteousness surpasses that of the scribes and Pharisees, you will never get into the kingdom of heaven.

“But I tell you, everyone who is angry with his brother or sister[fn] will be subject to judgment. Whoever insults[fn] his brother or sister will be subject to the court.[fn] Whoever says, ‘You fool! ' will be subject to hellfire.[fn]

“But I tell you, everyone who looks at a woman lustfully has already committed adultery with her in his heart.

“But I tell you, everyone who divorces his wife, except in a case of sexual immorality, causes her to commit adultery. And whoever marries a divorced woman commits adultery.

“But I tell you, don't take an oath at all: either by heaven, because it is God's throne;

“But I tell you, don't resist[fn] an evildoer. On the contrary, if anyone slaps you on your right cheek, turn the other to him also.

“But I tell you, love your enemies[fn] and pray for those who[fn] persecute you,

“So whenever you give to the poor, don't sound a trumpet before you, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and on the streets, to be applauded by people. Truly I tell you, they have their reward.

“Whenever you pray, you must not be like the hypocrites, because they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the street corners to be seen by people. Truly I tell you, they have their reward.

“For if you forgive others their offenses, your heavenly Father will forgive you as well.

“Whenever you fast, don't be gloomy like the hypocrites. For they disfigure their faces so that their fasting is obvious to people. Truly I tell you, they have their reward.

“Don't store up for yourselves treasures[fn] on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal.

“Therefore I tell you: Don't worry about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Isn't life more than food and the body more than clothing?

“Yet I tell you that not even Solomon in all his splendor was adorned like one of these.

“But seek first the kingdom of God[fn] and his righteousness, and all these things will be provided for you.

“For you will be judged by the same standard with which you judge others, and you will be measured by the same measure you use.

“Ask, and it will be given to you. Seek, and you will find. Knock, and the door[fn] will be opened to you.

“Therefore, whatever you want others to do for you, do also the same for them, for this is the Law and the Prophets.

Hearing this, Jesus was amazed and said to those following him, “Truly I tell you, I have not found anyone in Israel with so great a faith.

Then he touched their eyes, saying, “Let it be done for you according to your faith.”

“Truly I tell you, it will be more tolerable on the day of judgment for the land of Sodom and Gomorrah than for that town.

“But when they hand you over, don't worry about how or what you are to speak. For you will be given what to say at that hour,

“When they persecute you in one town, flee to another. For truly I tell you, you will not have gone through the towns of Israel before the Son of Man comes.

“What I tell you in the dark, speak in the light. What you hear in a whisper,[fn] proclaim on the housetops.

“And whoever gives even a cup of cold water to one of these little ones because he is a disciple,[fn] truly I tell you, he will never lose his reward.”

“What then did you go out to see? A prophet? Yes, I tell you, and more than a prophet.

“Truly I tell you, among those born of women no one greater than John the Baptist has appeared,[fn] but the least in the kingdom of heaven is greater than he.

“We played the flute for you,

but you didn't dance;

we sang a lament,

but you didn't mourn![fn]

“Woe to you, Chorazin! Woe to you, Bethsaida! For if the miracles that were done in you had been done in Tyre and Sidon, they would have repented in sackcloth and ashes long ago.

“But I tell you, it will be more tolerable for the land of Sodom on the day of judgment than for you.”

“I tell you that something greater than the temple is here.

“Therefore, I tell you, people will be forgiven every sin and blasphemy, but the blasphemy against[fn] the Spirit will not be forgiven.[fn]

“I tell you that on the day of judgment people will have to account for every careless[fn] word they speak.[fn]

He answered, “Because the secrets of the kingdom of heaven have been given for you to know, but it has not been given to them.

“For truly I tell you, many prophets and righteous people longed to see the things you see but didn't see them, to hear the things you hear but didn't hear them.

“Why is it you don't understand that when I told you, ‘Beware of the leaven of the Pharisees and Sadducees,' it wasn't about bread? ”

“Truly I tell you, there are some standing here who will not taste death until they see the Son of Man coming in his kingdom.”

“But I tell you: Elijah has already come, and they didn't recognize him. On the contrary, they did whatever they pleased to him. In the same way the Son of Man is going to suffer at their hands.”

“Because of your little faith,” he[fn] told them. “For truly I tell you, if you have faith the size of[fn] a mustard seed, you will tell this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,' and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you.”[fn]

“Truly I tell you,” he said, “unless you turn and become like little children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven.

“See to it that you don't despise one of these little ones, because I tell you that in heaven their angels continually view the face of my Father in heaven.[fn]

“What do you think? If someone has a hundred sheep, and one of them goes astray, won't he leave the ninety-nine on the hillside and go and search for the stray?

“Truly I tell you, whatever you bind on earth will have been bound[fn] in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will have been loosed[fn] in heaven.

“So also my heavenly Father will do to you unless every one of you forgives his brother or sister[fn] from your[fn] heart.”

He told them, “Moses permitted you to divorce your wives because of the hardness of your hearts, but it was not like that from the beginning.

Jesus said to his disciples, “Truly I tell you, it will be hard for a rich person to enter the kingdom of heaven.

Jesus said to them, “Truly I tell you, in the renewal of all things, when the Son of Man sits on his glorious throne, you who have followed me will also sit on twelve thrones, judging the twelve tribes of Israel.

“He said to them, ‘You also go into my vineyard, and I'll give you whatever is right.' So off they went.

“It must not be like that among you. On the contrary, whoever wants to become great among you must be your servant,

Jesus stopped, called them, and said, “What do you want me to do for you? ”

“If anyone says anything to you, say that the Lord needs them, and he will send them at once.”

Jesus answered them, “Truly I tell you, if you have faith and do not doubt, you will not only do what was done to the fig tree, but even if you tell this mountain, ‘Be lifted up and thrown into the sea,' it will be done.

Jesus answered them, “I will also ask you one question, and if you answer it for me, then I will tell you by what authority I do these things.

So they answered Jesus, “We don't know.”

And he said to them, “Neither will I tell you by what authority I do these things.

“Which of the two did his father's will? ”

They said, “The first.”

Jesus said to them, “Truly I tell you, tax collectors and prostitutes are entering the kingdom of God before you.

“Therefore I tell you, the kingdom of God will be taken away from you and given to a people producing its fruit.

“Now concerning the resurrection of the dead, haven't you read what was spoken to you by God:

“What do you think about the Messiah? Whose son is he? ”

They replied, “David's.”

“Therefore do whatever they tell you, and observe it. But don't do what they do, because they don't practice what they teach.

“Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! You shut the door of the kingdom of heaven in people's faces. For you don't go in, and you don't allow those entering to go in.[fn]

“Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! You pay a tenth of[fn] mint, dill, and cumin, and yet you have neglected the more important matters of the law ​— ​justice, mercy, and faithfulness.[fn] These things should have been done without neglecting the others.

“Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! You clean the outside of the cup and dish, but inside they are full of greed[fn] and self-indulgence.

“Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! You are like whitewashed tombs, which appear beautiful on the outside, but inside are full of the bones of the dead and every kind of impurity.

“Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! You build the tombs of the prophets and decorate the graves of the righteous,

“Truly I tell you, all these things will come on this generation.

“See, your house is left to you desolate.

He replied to them, “Do you see all these things? Truly I tell you, not one stone will be left here on another that will not be thrown down.”

“If anyone tells you then, ‘See, here is the Messiah! ' or, ‘Over here! ' do not believe it.

“Take note: I have told you in advance.

“Truly I tell you, this generation will certainly not pass away until all these things take place.

“Truly I tell you, he will put him in charge of all his possessions.

“The wise ones answered, ‘No, there won't be enough for us and for you. Go instead to those who sell oil, and buy some for yourselves.'

“He replied, ‘Truly I tell you, I don't know you! '

“Then the King will say to those on his right, ‘Come, you who are blessed by my Father; inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world.

“And the King will answer them, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.'

“Then he will answer them, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did not do for one of the least of these, you did not do for me.'

“Truly I tell you, wherever this gospel is proclaimed in the whole world, what she has done will also be told in memory of her.”

and said, “What are you willing to give me if I hand him over to you? ” So they weighed out thirty pieces of silver for him.

While they were eating, he said, “Truly I tell you, one of you will betray me.”

“But I tell you, I will not drink from this fruit of the vine from now on until that day when I drink it new with you in my Father's kingdom.”

“You have said it,” Jesus told him. “But I tell you, in the future[fn] you will see the Son of Man seated at the right hand of Power and coming on the clouds of heaven.”

“What is your decision? ”

They answered, “He deserves death! ”

So when they had gathered together, Pilate said to them, “Who is it you want me to release for you ​— ​Barabbas, or Jesus who is called Christ? ”

The governor asked them, “Which of the two do you want me to release for you? ”

“Barabbas! ” they answered.

“Then go quickly and tell his disciples, ‘He has risen from the dead and indeed he is going ahead of you to Galilee; you will see him there.' Listen, I have told you.”

“teaching them to observe everything I have commanded you. And remember,[fn] I am with you always,[fn] to the end of the age.”

“Truly I tell you, people will be forgiven for all sins and whatever blasphemies they utter.

And he said to them, “Pay attention to what you hear. By the measure you use, it will be measured to you ​— ​and more will be added to you.

“If any place does not welcome you or listen to you, when you leave there, shake the dust off your feet as a testimony against them.”[fn]

Sighing deeply in his spirit, he said, “Why does this generation demand a sign? Truly I tell you, no sign will be given to this generation.”

Then he said to them, “Truly I tell you, there are some standing here who will not taste death until they see the kingdom of God come in power.”

“But I tell you that Elijah has come, and they did whatever they pleased to him, just as it is written about him.”

“And whoever gives you a cup of water to drink in my name, because you belong to Christ ​— ​truly I tell you, he will never lose his reward.

He replied to them, “What did Moses command you? ”

But Jesus told them, “He wrote this command for you because of the hardness of your hearts.

“Truly I tell you, whoever does not receive[fn] the kingdom of God like a little child will never enter it.”

“Truly I tell you,” Jesus said, “there is no one who has left house or brothers or sisters or mother or father[fn] or children or fields for my sake and for the sake of the gospel,

“What do you want me to do for you? ” he asked them.

“But it is not so among you. On the contrary, whoever wants to become great among you will be your servant,

“If anyone says to you, ‘Why are you doing this? ' say, ‘The Lord needs it and will send it back here right away.' ”

“Truly I tell you, if anyone says to this mountain, ‘Be lifted up and thrown into the sea,' and does not doubt in his heart, but believes that what he says will happen, it will be done for him.

Jesus said to them, “I will ask you one question; then answer me, and I will tell you by what authority I do these things.

So they answered Jesus, “We don't know.”

And Jesus said to them, “Neither will I tell you by what authority I do these things.”

Summoning his disciples, he said to them, “Truly I tell you, this poor widow has put more into the treasury than all the others.

“So when they arrest you and hand you over, don't worry beforehand what you will say, but say whatever is given to you at that time, for it isn't you speaking, but the Holy Spirit.

“Then if anyone tells you, ‘See, here is the Messiah! See, there! ' do not believe it.

“And you must watch! I have told you everything in advance.

“Truly I tell you, this generation will certainly not pass away until all these things take place.

“And what I say to you, I say to everyone: Be alert! ”

“Truly I tell you, wherever the gospel is proclaimed in the whole world, what she has done will also be told in memory of her.”

So he sent two of his disciples and told them, “Go into the city, and a man carrying a jar of water will meet you. Follow him.

He will show you a large room upstairs, furnished and ready. Make the preparations for us there.”

While they were reclining and eating, Jesus said, “Truly I tell you, one of you will betray me ​— ​one who is eating with me.”

“Truly I tell you, I will no longer drink of the fruit of the vine until that day when I drink it new[fn] in the kingdom of God.”

“You have heard the blasphemy. What is your decision? ” They all condemned him as deserving death.

Pilate answered them, “Do you want me to release the king of the Jews for you? ”

“But go, tell his disciples and Peter, ‘He is going ahead of you to Galilee; you will see him there just as he told you.' ”

But the angel said to them, “Don't be afraid, for look, I proclaim to you good news of great joy that will be for all the people:[fn]

He then said to the crowds who came out to be baptized by him, “Brood of vipers! Who warned you to flee from the coming wrath?

He told them, “Don't collect any more than what you have been authorized.”

He also said, “Truly I tell you, no prophet is accepted in his hometown.

“But woe to you who are rich,

for you have received your comfort.

“Just as you want others to do for you, do the same for them.

“Give, and it will be given to you; a good measure ​— ​pressed down, shaken together, and running over ​— ​will be poured into your lap. For with the measure you use, it will be measured back to you.”

“I will show you what someone is like who comes to me, hears my words, and acts on them:

Jesus heard this and was amazed at him, and turning to the crowd following him, he said, “I tell you, I have not found so great a faith even in Israel.”

“What then did you go out to see? A prophet? Yes, I tell you, and more than a prophet.

“I tell you, among those born of women no one is greater than John,[fn] but the least in the kingdom of God is greater than he.”

“They are like children sitting in the marketplace and calling to each other:

We played the flute for you,

but you didn't dance;

we sang a lament,

but you didn't weep!

“Truly I tell you, there are some standing here who will not taste death until they see the kingdom of God.”

He told them, “Whoever welcomes[fn] this little child in my name welcomes me. And whoever welcomes me welcomes him who sent me. For whoever is least among you ​— ​this one is great.”

“When you enter any town, and they welcome you, eat the things set before you.

“‘We are wiping off even the dust of your town that clings to our feet as a witness against you. Know this for certain: The kingdom of God has come near.'

“Look, I have given you the authority to trample on snakes and scorpions and over all the power of the enemy; nothing at all will harm you.

“For I tell you that many prophets and kings wanted to see the things you see but didn't see them; to hear the things you hear but didn't hear them.”

“I tell you, even though he won't get up and give him anything because he is his friend, yet because of his friend's shameless boldness,[fn] he will get up and give him as much as he needs.

“But give from what is within to the poor,[fn] and then everything is clean for you.

Then he said, “Woe also to you experts in the law! You load people with burdens that are hard to carry, and yet you yourselves don't touch these burdens with one of your fingers.

“from the blood of Abel to the blood of Zechariah, who perished between the altar and the sanctuary.

“Yes, I tell you, this generation will be held responsible.[fn]

“I say to you, my friends, don't fear those who kill the body, and after that can do nothing more.

“And I say to you, anyone who acknowledges me before others, the Son of Man will also acknowledge him before the angels of God,

Then he said to his disciples, “Therefore I tell you, don't worry about your life, what you will eat; or about the body, what you will wear.

“Consider how the wildflowers grow: They don't labor or spin thread. Yet I tell you, not even Solomon in all his splendor was adorned like one of these.

“But seek his kingdom, and these things will be provided for you.

“Blessed will be those servants the master finds alert when he comes. Truly I tell you, he will get ready,[fn] have them recline at the table, then come and serve them.

“Truly I tell you, he will put him in charge of all his possessions.

“Do you think that I came here to bring peace on the earth? No, I tell you, but rather division.

“No, I tell you; but unless you repent, you will all perish as well.

“No, I tell you; but unless you repent, you will all perish as well.”

“Make every effort to enter through the narrow door, because I tell you, many will try to enter and won't be able

“But he will say, ‘I tell you, I don't know you or where you're from. Get away from me, all you evildoers! '

“See, your house is abandoned to you. I tell you, you will not see me until the time comes when[fn] you say, ‘Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord'! ”

“And I tell you, make friends for yourselves by means of worldly wealth[fn] so that when it fails, they may welcome you into eternal dwellings.

“So if you have not been faithful with worldly wealth, who will trust you with what is genuine?

“If you have faith the size of[fn] a mustard seed,” the Lord said, “you can say to this mulberry tree, ‘Be uprooted and planted in the sea,' and it will obey you.

“In the same way, when you have done all that you were commanded, you should say, ‘We are unworthy servants; we've only done our duty.' ”

“They will say to you, ‘See there! ' or ‘See here! ' Don't follow or run after them.

“I tell you, on that night two will be in one bed; one will be taken and the other will be left.

“I tell you that he will swiftly grant them justice. Nevertheless, when the Son of Man comes, will he find faith on earth? ”

“I tell you, this one went down to his house justified rather than the other, because everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, but the one who humbles himself will be exalted.”

“Truly I tell you, whoever does not receive the kingdom of God like a little child will never enter it.”

So he said to them, “Truly I tell you, there is no one who has left a house, wife or brothers or sisters, parents or children because of the kingdom of God,

“ ‘I tell you, that to everyone who has, more will be given; and from the one who does not have, even what he does have will be taken away.

He answered, “I tell you, if they were to keep silent, the stones would cry out.”

And Jesus said to them, “Neither will I tell you by what authority I do these things.”

“Truly I tell you,” he said, “this poor widow has put in more than all of them.

“This will give you an opportunity to bear witness.

“for I will give you such words and a wisdom that none of your adversaries will be able to resist or contradict.

“Truly I tell you, this generation will certainly not pass away until all things take place.

“Listen,” he said to them, “when you've entered the city, a man carrying a water jug will meet you. Follow him into the house he enters.

Then he will show you a large, furnished room upstairs. Make the preparations there.”

“For I tell you, I will not eat it again[fn] until it is fulfilled in the kingdom of God.”

“For I tell you, from now on I will not drink of the fruit of the vine until the kingdom of God comes.”

“It is not to be like that among you. On the contrary, whoever is greatest among you should become like the youngest, and whoever leads, like the one serving.

“I bestow on you a kingdom, just as my Father bestowed one on me,

“For I tell you, what is written must be fulfilled in me:[fn] And he was counted among the lawless. Yes, what is written about me is coming to its fulfillment.”

They said, “If you are the Messiah, tell us.”

But he said to them, “If I do tell you, you will not believe.

“He is not here, but he has risen! Remember how he spoke to you when he was still in Galilee,

As they were saying these things, he himself stood in their midst. He said to them, “Peace to you! ”

He told them, “These are my words that I spoke to you while I was still with you ​— ​that everything written about me in the Law of Moses, the Prophets, and the Psalms must be fulfilled.”

Then he said, “Truly I tell you, you will see heaven opened and the angels of God ascending and descending on the Son of Man.”

“Do whatever he tells you,” his mother told the servants.

“If I have told you about earthly things and you don't believe, how will you believe if I tell you about heavenly things?

“Don't you say, ‘There are still four more months, and then comes the harvest'? Listen to what I'm telling you: Open[fn] your eyes and look at the fields, because they are ready[fn] for harvest.

Jesus replied, “Truly I tell you, the Son is not able to do anything on his own, but only what he sees the Father doing. For whatever the Father[fn] does, the Son likewise does these things.

“Truly I tell you, anyone who hears my word and believes him who sent me has eternal life and will not come under judgment but has passed from death to life.

“You don't have his word residing in you, because you don't believe the one he sent.

Jesus answered, “Truly I tell you, you are looking for me, not because you saw[fn] the signs, but because you ate the loaves and were filled.

Jesus said to them, “Truly I tell you, Moses didn't give you the bread from heaven, but my Father gives you the true bread from heaven.

“But as I told you, you've seen me,[fn] and yet you do not believe.

“Truly I tell you, anyone who believes[fn] has eternal life.

So Jesus said to them, “Truly I tell you, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink his blood, you do not have life in yourselves.

“The Spirit is the one who gives life. The flesh doesn't help at all. The words that I have spoken to you are spirit and are life.

He said, “This is why I told you that no one can come to me unless it is granted to him by the Father.”

“Didn't Moses give you the law? Yet none of you keeps the law. Why are you trying to kill me? ”

“This is why Moses has given you circumcision ​— ​not that it comes from Moses but from the fathers ​— ​and you circumcise a man on the Sabbath.

“Therefore I told you that you will die in your sins. For if you do not believe that I am he, you will die in your sins.”

Jesus responded, “Truly I tell you, everyone who commits sin is a slave of sin.

“I know you are descendants of Abraham, but you are trying to kill me because my word has no place among you.

“But now you are trying to kill me, a man who has told you the truth that I heard from God. Abraham did not do this.

“Truly I tell you, if anyone keeps my word, he will never see death.”

Jesus said to them, “Truly I tell you, before Abraham was, I am.”

“I already told you,” he said, “and you didn't listen. Why do you want to hear it again? You don't want to become his disciples too, do you? ”

“Truly I tell you, anyone who doesn't enter the sheep pen by the gate but climbs in some other way is a thief and a robber.

Jesus said again, “Truly I tell you, I am the gate for the sheep.

“I did tell you and you don't believe,” Jesus answered them. “The works that I do in my Father's name testify about me.

Jesus replied, “I have shown you many good works from the Father. For which of these works are you stoning me? ”

They were looking for Jesus and asking one another as they stood in the temple, “What do you think? He won't come to the festival, will he? ”

“Truly I tell you, unless a grain of wheat falls to the ground and dies, it remains by itself. But if it dies, it produces much fruit.

When Jesus had washed their feet and put on his outer clothing, he reclined again and said to them, “Do you know what I have done for you?

“For I have given you an example, that you also should do just as I have done for you.

“I am telling you now before it happens, so that when it does happen you will believe that I am he.

“Little children, I am with you a little while longer. You will look for me, and just as I told the Jews, so now I tell you, ‘Where I am going, you cannot come.'

“In my Father's house are many rooms. If it were not so, would I have told you that I am going to prepare a place for you?

“Don't you believe that I am in the Father and the Father is in me? The words I speak to you I do not speak on my own. The Father who lives in me does his works.

“Truly I tell you, the one who believes in me will also do the works that I do. And he will do even greater works than these, because I am going to the Father.

“And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Counselor[fn] to be with you forever.

“On that day you will know that I am in my Father, you are in me, and I am in you.

“I have spoken these things to you while I remain with you.

“You are already clean because of the word I have spoken to you.

“If you remain in me and my words remain in you, ask whatever you want and it will be done for you.

“I have told you these things so that my joy may be in you and your joy may be complete.

“You are my friends if you do what I command you.

“Remember the word I spoke to you: ‘A servant is not greater than his master.' If they persecuted me, they will also persecute you. If they kept my word, they will also keep yours.

“When the Counselor comes, the one I will send to you from the Father ​— ​the Spirit of truth who proceeds from the Father ​— ​he will testify about me.

“I have told you these things to keep you from stumbling.

“They will do these things because they haven't known the Father or me.

“Yet, because I have spoken these things to you, sorrow has filled your heart.

“I still have many things to tell you, but you can't bear them now.

“Truly I tell you, you will weep and mourn, but the world will rejoice. You will become sorrowful, but your sorrow will turn to joy.

“In that day you will not ask me anything. Truly I tell you, anything you ask the Father in my name, he will give you.

“I have spoken these things to you in figures of speech. A time is coming when I will no longer speak to you in figures, but I will tell you plainly about the Father.

“I have told you these things so that in me you may have peace. You will have suffering in this world. Be courageous! I have conquered the world.”

“I told you I am he,” Jesus replied. “So if you're looking for me, let these men go.”

“You have a custom that I release one prisoner to you at the Passover. So, do you want me to release to you the king of the Jews? ”

Pilate went outside again and said to them, “Look, I'm bringing him out to you to let you know I find no grounds for charging him.”

When it was evening on that first day of the week, the disciples were gathered together with the doors locked because they feared the Jews. Jesus came, stood among them, and said to them, “Peace be with you.”

Jesus said to them again, “Peace be with you. As the Father has sent me, I also send you.”

A week later his disciples were indoors again, and Thomas was with them. Even though the doors were locked, Jesus came and stood among them and said, “Peace be with you.”

Peter stood up with the Eleven, raised his voice, and proclaimed to them, “Fellow Jews and all you residents of Jerusalem, let this be known to you, and pay attention to my words.

“For the promise is for you and for your children, and for all who are far off, as many as the Lord our God will call.”

“You denied the Holy and Righteous One and asked to have a murderer released to you.

“that seasons of refreshing may come from the presence of the Lord, and that he may send Jesus, who has been appointed for you as the Messiah.

“Moses said:[fn] The Lord your God will raise up for you a prophet like me from among your brothers. You must listen to everything he tells you.

“God raised up his servant[fn] and sent him first to you to bless you by turning each of you from your evil ways.”

“let it be known to all of you and to all the people of Israel, that by the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom you crucified and whom God raised from the dead ​— ​by him this man is standing here before you healthy.

Then Peter said to her, “Why did you agree to test the Spirit of the Lord? Look, the feet of those who have buried your husband are at the door, and they will carry you out.”

“Didn't we strictly order you not to teach in this name? Look, you have filled Jerusalem with your teaching and are determined to make us guilty of this man's blood.”

“So in the present case, I tell you, stay away from these men and leave them alone. For if this plan or this work is of human origin, it will fail;

“This is the Moses who said to the Israelites: God[fn] will raise up for you a prophet like me from among your brothers.

After the reading of the Law and the Prophets, the leaders of the synagogue sent word to them, saying, “Brothers, if you have any word of encouragement for the people, you can speak.”

“Brothers and sisters, children of Abraham's race, and those among you who fear God, it is to us that the word of this salvation has been sent.

“As to his raising him from the dead, never to return to decay, he has spoken in this way, I will give you the holy and sure promises of David.

“Therefore, let it be known to you, brothers and sisters, that through this man forgiveness of sins is being proclaimed to you.

“Look, you scoffers,

marvel and vanish away,

because I am doing a work in your days,

a work that you will never believe,

even if someone were to explain it to you.”

“People! Why are you doing these things? We are people also, just like you, and we are proclaiming good news to you, that you turn from these worthless things to the living God, who made the heaven, the earth, the sea, and everything in them.

“For it was the Holy Spirit's decision ​— ​and ours ​— ​not to place further burdens on you beyond these requirements:

explaining and proving that it was necessary for the Messiah to suffer and rise from the dead: “This Jesus I am proclaiming to you is the Messiah.”

“For as I was passing through and observing the objects of your worship, I even found an altar on which was inscribed, ‘To an Unknown God.' Therefore, what you worship in ignorance, this I proclaim to you.

“You know that I did not hesitate to proclaim anything to you that was profitable and to teach you publicly and from house to house.

“Therefore I declare to you this day that I am innocent[fn] of the blood of all of you,

“And now I commit you to God and to the word of his grace, which is able to build you up and to give you an inheritance among all who are sanctified.

“In every way I've shown you that it is necessary to help the weak by laboring like this and to remember the words of the Lord Jesus, because he said, ‘It is more blessed to give than to receive.' ”

As they stretched him out for the lash, Paul said to the centurion standing by, “Is it legal for you to scourge a man who is a Roman citizen and is uncondemned? ”

“Therefore,” he said, “let those of you who have authority go down with me and accuse him, if he has done anything wrong.”

“Why do any of you consider it incredible that God raises the dead?

“Therefore, let it be known to you that this salvation of God has been sent to the Gentiles; they will listen.”[fn]

To all who are in Rome, loved by God, called as saints.

For I want very much to see you, so that I may impart to you some spiritual gift to strengthen you,

So I am eager to preach the gospel to you also who are in Rome.

You, however, are not in the flesh, but in the Spirit, if indeed the Spirit of God lives in you. If anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, he does not belong to him.

For by the grace given to me, I tell everyone among you not to think of himself more highly than he should think. Instead, think sensibly, as God has distributed a measure of faith to each one.

Now may the God who gives[fn] endurance and encouragement grant you to live in harmony with one another, according to Christ Jesus,

Nevertheless, I have written to remind you more boldly on some points[fn] because of the grace given me by God

and that, by God's will, I may come to you with joy and be refreshed together with you.

I commend to you our sister Phoebe, who is a servant[fn] of the church in Cenchreae.

The report of your obedience has reached everyone. Therefore I rejoice over you, but I want you to be wise about what is good, and yet innocent about what is evil.

Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.

In this way, the testimony about Christ was confirmed among you,

Now I urge you, brothers and sisters, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that all of you agree in what you say, that there be no divisions among you, and that you be united with the same understanding and the same conviction.

When I came to you, brothers and sisters, announcing the mystery[fn] of God to you, I did not come with brilliance of speech or wisdom.

For my part, brothers and sisters, I was not able to speak to you as spiritual people but as people of the flesh, as babies in Christ.

because you are still worldly. For since there is envy and strife[fn] among you, are you not worldly and behaving like mere humans?

Don't you yourselves know that you are God's temple and that the Spirit of God lives in you?

Let no one deceive himself. If anyone among you thinks he is wise in this age, let him become a fool so that he can become wise.

You are already full! You are already rich! You have begun to reign as kings without us ​— ​and I wish you did reign, so that we could also reign with you!

This is why I have sent Timothy to you. He is my dearly loved and faithful child in the Lord. He will remind you about my ways in Christ Jesus, just as I teach everywhere in every church.

It is actually reported that there is sexual immorality among you, and the kind of sexual immorality that is not even tolerated[fn] among the Gentiles ​— ​a man is sleeping with his father's wife.

I wrote to you in a letter not to associate with sexually immoral people.

But actually, I wrote[fn] you not to associate with anyone who claims to be a brother or sister and is sexually immoral or greedy, an idolater or verbally abusive, a drunkard or a swindler. Do not even eat with such a person.

Or don't you know that the saints will judge the world? And if the world is judged by you, are you unworthy to judge the trivial cases?

I say this to your shame! Can it be that there is not one wise person among you who is able to arbitrate between fellow believers?

As it is, to have legal disputes against one another is already a defeat for you. Why not rather be wronged? Why not rather be cheated?

Don't you know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God? You are not your own,

I am saying this for your own benefit, not to put a restraint on you, but to promote what is proper and so that you may be devoted to the Lord without distraction.

If I am not an apostle to others, at least I am to you, because you are the seal of my apostleship in the Lord.

If we have sown spiritual things for you, is it too much if we reap material benefits from you?

If any of the unbelievers invites you over and you want to go, eat everything that is set before you, without raising questions for the sake of conscience.

Now I praise you[fn] because you remember me in everything and hold fast to the traditions just as I delivered them to you.

Judge for yourselves: Is it proper for a woman to pray to God with her head uncovered?

For to begin with, I hear that when you come together as a church there are divisions among you, and in part I believe it.

Don't you have homes in which to eat and drink? Or do you despise the church of God and humiliate those who have nothing? What should I say to you? Should I praise you? I do not praise you in this matter!

This is why many are sick and ill among you, and many have fallen asleep.

Therefore I want you to know that no one speaking by the Spirit of God says, “Jesus is cursed,” and no one can say, “Jesus is Lord,” except by the Holy Spirit.

But desire the greater gifts. And I will show you an even better way.

So now, brothers and sisters, if I come to you speaking in tongues, how will I benefit you unless I speak to you with a revelation or knowledge or prophecy or teaching?

The secrets of his heart will be revealed, and as a result he will fall facedown and worship God, proclaiming, “God is really among you.”

If anyone thinks he is a prophet or spiritual, he should recognize that what I write to you is the Lord's command.

Now I want to make clear for you, brothers and sisters, the gospel I preached to you, which you received, on which you have taken your stand

Now if Christ is proclaimed as raised from the dead, how can some of you say, “There is no resurrection of the dead”?

Come to your senses[fn] and stop sinning; for some people are ignorant about God. I say this to your shame.

Listen, I am telling you a mystery: We will not all fall asleep, but we will all be changed,

For we are writing nothing to you other than what you can read and also understand. I hope you will understand completely ​— ​

For the Son of God, Jesus Christ, whom we proclaimed among you ​— ​Silvanus,[fn] Timothy, and I ​— ​did not become “Yes and no.” On the contrary, in him it is always “Yes.”

Now it is God who strengthens us together with you in Christ, and who has anointed us.

I wrote this very thing so that when I came I wouldn't have pain from those who ought to give me joy, because I am confident about all of you that my joy will also be yours.

So then, death is at work in us, but life in you.

For we know that the one who raised the Lord Jesus will also raise us with Jesus and present us with you.

We are not commending ourselves to you again, but giving you an opportunity to be proud of us, so that you may have a reply for those who take pride in outward appearance rather than in the heart.

And I will be a Father to you,

and you will be sons and daughters to me,

says the Lord Almighty.

and not only by his arrival but also by the comfort he received from you. He told us about your deep longing, your sorrow, and your zeal for me, so that I rejoiced even more.

For consider how much diligence this very thing ​— ​this grieving as God wills ​— ​has produced in you: what a desire to clear yourselves, what indignation, what fear, what deep longing, what zeal, what justice! In every way you showed yourselves to be pure in this matter.

For if I have made any boast to him about you, I have not been disappointed; but as I have spoken everything to you in truth, so our boasting to Titus has also turned out to be the truth.

I rejoice that I have complete confidence in you.

We want you to know, brothers and sisters, about the grace of God that was given to the churches of Macedonia:

And in this matter I am giving advice because it is profitable for you, who began last year not only to do something but also to want to do it.

It is not that there should be relief for others and hardship for you, but it is a question of equality.[fn]

Now concerning the ministry to the saints, it is unnecessary for me to write to you.

And as they pray on your behalf, they will have deep affection for you because of the surpassing grace of God in you.

Now I, Paul, myself, appeal to you by the meekness and gentleness of Christ ​— ​I who am humble among you in person but bold toward you when absent.

We are not boasting beyond measure about other people's labors. On the contrary, we have the hope that as your faith increases, our area of ministry will be greatly enlarged,

Or did I commit a sin by humbling myself so that you might be exalted, because I preached the gospel of God to you free of charge?

When I was present with you and in need, I did not burden anyone, since the brothers who came from Macedonia supplied my needs. I have kept myself, and will keep myself, from burdening you in any way.

The signs of an apostle were performed with unfailing endurance among you, including signs and wonders and miracles.

Have you been thinking all along that we were defending ourselves to you? No, in the sight of God we are speaking in Christ, and everything, dear friends, is for building you up.

since you seek proof of Christ speaking in me. He is not weak in dealing with you, but powerful among you.

Test yourselves to see if you are in the faith. Examine yourselves. Or do you yourselves not recognize that Jesus Christ is in you? ​— ​unless you fail the test.[fn]

Grace to you and peace from God the Father and our Lord[fn] Jesus Christ,

But even if we or an angel from heaven should preach to you a gospel contrary to what we have preached to you, a curse be on him![fn]

For I want you to know, brothers and sisters, that the gospel preached by me is not of human origin.

I declare in the sight of God: I am not lying in what I write to you.

You foolish Galatians! Who has cast a spell on you,[fn] before whose eyes Jesus Christ was publicly portrayed[fn] as crucified?

So then, does God give you the Spirit and work miracles among you by your doing the works of the law? Or is it by believing what you heard ​— ​

you know[fn] that previously I preached the gospel to you because of a weakness of the flesh.

Where, then, is your blessing? For I testify to you that, if possible, you would have torn out your eyes and given them to me.

My children, I am again suffering labor pains for you until Christ is formed in you.

Take note! I, Paul, am telling you that if you get yourselves circumcised, Christ will not benefit you at all.

envy,[fn] drunkenness, carousing, and anything similar. I am warning you about these things ​— ​as I warned you before ​— ​that those who practice such things will not inherit the kingdom of God.

Look at what large letters I use as I write to you in my own handwriting.

I pray that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the glorious Father,[fn] would give you the Spirit[fn] of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of him.

He came and proclaimed the good news of peace to you who were far away and peace to those who were near.

I pray that he may grant you, according to the riches of his glory, to be strengthened with power in your inner being through his Spirit,

one God and Father of all, who is above all and through all and in all.

And be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving one another, just as God also forgave you[fn] in Christ.

But sexual immorality and any impurity or greed should not even be heard of[fn] among you, as is proper for saints.

Tychicus, our dearly loved brother and faithful servant[fn] in the Lord, will tell you all the news about me so that you may be informed.

Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.

I am sure of this, that he who started a good work in you[fn] will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.

Since I am persuaded of this, I know that I will remain and continue with all of you for your progress and joy in the faith,

not being frightened in any way by your opponents. This is a sign of destruction for them, but of your salvation ​— ​and this is from God.

Adopt the same attitude as that of Christ Jesus,

For it is God who is working in you both to will and to work according to his good purpose.

But even if I am poured out as a drink offering on the sacrificial service of your faith, I am glad and rejoice with all of you.

Now I hope in the Lord Jesus to send Timothy to you soon so that I too may be encouraged by news about you.

In addition, my brothers and sisters, rejoice in the Lord. To write to you again about this is no trouble for me and is a safeguard for you.

Therefore, let all of us who are mature think this way. And if you think differently about anything, God will reveal this also to you.

For I have often told you, and now say again with tears, that many live as enemies of the cross of Christ.

To the saints in Christ at Colossae, who are faithful brothers and sisters.

because of the hope reserved for you in heaven. You have already heard about this hope in the word of truth, the gospel

God wanted to make known among the Gentiles the glorious wealth of this mystery, which is Christ in you, the hope of glory.

For I may be absent in body, but I am with you in spirit, rejoicing to see how well ordered you are and the strength of your faith in Christ.

bearing with one another and forgiving one another if anyone has a grievance against another. Just as the Lord has forgiven you, so you are also to forgive.

Let the word of Christ dwell richly among you, in all wisdom teaching and admonishing one another through psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs,[fn] singing to God with gratitude in your hearts.

Tychicus, our dearly loved brother, faithful minister, and fellow servant in the Lord, will tell you all the news about me.

He is coming with Onesimus, a faithful and dearly loved brother, who is one of you. They will tell you about everything here.

After this letter has been read at your gathering, have it read also in the church of the Laodiceans; and see that you also read the letter from Laodicea.

To the church of the Thessalonians in God the Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.

because our gospel did not come to you in word only, but also in power, in the Holy Spirit, and with full assurance. You know how we lived among you for your benefit,

We cared so much for you that we were pleased to share with you not only the gospel of God but also our own lives, because you had become dear to us.

You are witnesses, and so is God, of how devoutly, righteously, and blamelessly we conducted ourselves with you believers.

This is why we constantly thank God, because when you received the word of God that you heard from us, you welcomed it not as a human message, but as it truly is, the word of God, which also works effectively in you who believe.

In fact, when we were with you, we told you in advance that we were going to experience affliction, and as you know, it happened.

Therefore, brothers and sisters, in all our distress and affliction, we were encouraged about you through your faith.

For you know what commands we gave you through the Lord Jesus.

This means one must not transgress against and take advantage of a brother or sister in this manner, because the Lord is an avenger of all these offenses, as we also previously told and warned you.

About brotherly love: You don't need me to write you because you yourselves are taught by God to love one another.

to seek to lead a quiet life, to mind your own business,[fn] and to work with your own hands, as we commanded you,

For we say this to you by a word from the Lord: We who are still alive at the Lord's coming will certainly not precede those who have fallen asleep.

About the times and the seasons: Brothers and sisters, you do not need anything to be written to you.

Now we ask you, brothers and sisters, to give recognition to those who labor among you and lead you[fn] in the Lord and admonish you,

Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.

Therefore, we ourselves boast about you among God's churches ​— ​about your perseverance and faith in all the persecutions and afflictions that you are enduring.

and to give relief to you who are afflicted, along with us. This will take place at the revelation of the Lord Jesus from heaven with his powerful angels,

so that the name of our Lord Jesus will be glorified by you, and you by him, according to the grace of our God and the Lord Jesus Christ.

Don't you remember that when I was still with you I used to tell you about this?

We have confidence in the Lord about you, that you are doing and will continue to do what we command.

Now we command you, brothers and sisters, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, to keep away from every brother or sister who is idle and does not live[fn] according to the tradition received from us.

It is not that we don't have the right to support, but we did it to make ourselves an example to you so that you would imitate us.

May the Lord of peace himself give you peace always in every way. The Lord be with all of you.
