At that time Jesus passed through the grainfields on the Sabbath. His disciples were hungry and began to pick and eat some heads of grain.
On the Sabbath he was going through the grainfields, and his disciples began to make their way, picking some heads of grain.
They hurried throughout that region and began to carry the sick on mats to wherever they heard he was.
The Pharisees came and began to argue with him, demanding of him a sign from heaven to test him.
Then the scribes and the Pharisees began to think to themselves, “Who is this man who speaks blasphemies? Who can forgive sins but God alone? ”
Those who were at the table with him began to say among themselves, “Who is this man who even forgives sins? ”
When he left there,[fn] the scribes and the Pharisees began to oppose him fiercely and to cross-examine him about many things;
“But without exception[fn] they all began to make excuses. The first one said to him, ‘I have bought a field, and I must go out and see it. I ask you to excuse me.'
“because this son of mine was dead and is alive again; he was lost and is found! ' So they began to celebrate.
Now he came near the path down the Mount of Olives, and the whole crowd of the disciples began to praise God joyfully with a loud voice for all the miracles they had seen:
So they began to argue among themselves which of them it could be who was going to do it.
They began to accuse him, saying, “We found this man misleading our nation, opposing payment of taxes to Caesar, and saying that he himself is the Messiah, a king.”
