because they had not understood about the loaves. Instead, their hearts were hardened.

“But I say to you who listen: Love your enemies, do what is good to those who hate you,
“That is why I didn’t even consider myself worthy to come to you. But say the word, and my servant will be healed.[fn]
“What then did you go out to see? A man dressed in soft clothes? See, those who are splendidly dressed and live in luxury are in royal palaces.
“What then did you go out to see? A prophet? Yes, I tell you, and more than a prophet.
“No one, after lighting a lamp, covers it with a basket or puts it under a bed, but puts it on a lampstand so that those who come in may see its light.
When he got out on land, a demon-possessed man from the town met him. For a long time he had worn no clothes and did not stay in a house but in the tombs.
Everyone was crying and mourning for her. But he said, “Stop crying, because she is not dead but asleep.”
“No one lights a lamp and puts it in the cellar or under a basket,[fn] but on a lampstand, so that those who come in may see its light.
“Indeed, the hairs of your head are all counted. Don’t be afraid; you are worth more than many sparrows.
“Do you think that I came here to bring peace on the earth? No, I tell you, but rather division.
“But when you are invited, go and sit in the lowest place, so that when the one who invited you comes, he will say to you, ‘Friend, move up higher.’ You will then be honored in the presence of all the other guests.
“On the contrary, when you host a banquet, invite those who are poor, maimed, lame, or blind.
