2 To the church ^G1577 of God ^G2316 which is at Corinth ^G2882, to those who have been sanctified ^G37 in Christ ^G5547 Jesus ^G2424, called ^G2822 as [fn]saints ^G40, with all ^G3956 who in every ^G3956 place ^G5117 call ^G1941 on ^G1941 the name ^G3686 of our Lord ^G2962 Jesus ^G2424 Christ ^G5547, their Lord and ours ^G1473:

3 Grace ^G5485 to you and peace ^G1515 from God ^G2316 our Father ^G3962 and the Lord ^G2962 Jesus ^G2424 Christ ^G5547.

4 I thank ^G2168 [fn]my God ^G2316 always ^G3842 concerning ^G4012 you for the grace ^G5485 of God ^G2316 which was given ^G1325 you in Christ ^G5547 Jesus ^G2424,

5 that in everything ^G3956 you were enriched ^G4148 in Him, in all ^G3956 word ^G3056 and all ^G3956 knowledge ^G1108, 6 even ^G2531 as the witness ^G3142 about Christ ^G5547 was confirmed ^G950 [fn]in you, 7 so ^G5620 that you are ^G5302 not lacking ^G5302 in any ^G3367 gift ^G5486, eagerly ^G553 awaiting ^G553 the revelation ^G602 of our Lord ^G2962 Jesus ^G2424 Christ ^G5547, 8 who ^G3739 will also ^G2532 confirm ^G950 you to the end ^G5056, beyond ^G410 reproach ^G410 in the day ^G2250 of our Lord ^G2962 Jesus ^G2424 Christ ^G5547. 9 God ^G2316 is faithful ^G4103, through ^G1223 whom ^G3739 you were called ^G2564 into fellowship ^G2842 with His Son ^G5207, Jesus ^G2424 Christ ^G5547 our Lord ^G2962.

10 Now ^G1161 I exhort ^G3870 you, brothers ^G80, by the name ^G3686 of our Lord ^G2962 Jesus ^G2424 Christ ^G5547, that you all ^G3956 [fn]agree ^G846 G3004 and that there be no ^G3361 [fn]divisions ^G4978 among ^G1722 you, but that you be [fn]made ^G2675 complete ^G2675 in the same ^G846 mind ^G3563 and in the same ^G846 judgment ^G1106. 11 For I have been informed ^G1213 concerning ^G4012 you, my brothers ^G80, by Chloe’s ^G5514 people, that there are quarrels ^G2054 among ^G1722 you. 12 Now ^G1161 I mean ^G3004 this ^G3778, that each ^G1538 one ^G1538 of you is saying ^G3004, “I am ^G1510 of Paul ^G3972,” and “I of Apollos ^G625,” and “I of Cephas ^G2786,” and “I of Christ ^G5547.” 13 [fn]Has Christ ^G5547 been divided ^G3307? Was Paul ^G3972 crucified ^G4717 for you? Or ^G2228 were you baptized ^G907 [fn]in the name ^G3686 of Paul ^G3972? 14 [fn]I thank ^G2168 God ^G2316 that I baptized ^G907 none ^G3762 of you except ^G1508 Crispus ^G2921 and Gaius ^G1050, 15 so ^G2443 that no ^G3361 one ^G5100 would say ^G3004 you were baptized ^G907 [fn]in my name ^G3686. 16 Now ^G1161 I did baptize ^G907 also ^G2532 the household ^G3624 of Stephanas ^G4734; beyond ^G3062 that ^G3062, I do not know ^G6063 whether ^G1487 I baptized ^G907 any ^G5100 other ^G243. 17 For Christ ^G5547 did not send ^G649 me to baptize ^G907, but to proclaim ^G2097 the gospel ^G2097, not in wisdom ^G4678 of word ^G3056, so ^G2443 that the cross ^G4716 of Christ ^G5547 will not be made ^G2758 empty ^G2758.

Christ the Power and Wisdom of God

18 For the word ^G3056 of the cross ^G4716 is foolishness ^G3472 to those ^G3588 who [fn]are perishing ^G622, but to us who [fn]are being saved ^G4982, it is the power ^G1411 of God ^G2316.

19 For it is written ^G1125,

“I WILL DESTROY ^G622 THE WISDOM ^G4678 OF THE WISE ^G4680,

AND THE CLEVERNESS ^G4907 OF THE CLEVER ^G4908 I WILL SET ^G114 ASIDE ^G114.”

20 Where ^G4226 is the wise ^G4680 man ^G4680? Where ^G4226 is the scribe ^G1122? Where ^G4226 is the debater ^G4804 of this ^G3778 age ^G165? Has not God ^G2316 made ^G3471 foolish ^G3471 the wisdom ^G4678 of the world ^G2889? 21 For since ^G1894, in the wisdom ^G4678 of God ^G2316, the world ^G2889 through ^G1223 its wisdom ^G4678 did not come to know ^G1097 God ^G2316, God ^G2316 was well-pleased ^G2106, through ^G1223 the foolishness ^G3472 of the [fn]message ^G2782 preached ^G2782, to save ^G4982 those ^G3588 who believe ^G4100. 22 For indeed ^G2532 Jews ^G2453 ask ^G154 for [fn]signs ^G4592 and Greeks ^G1672 search ^G2212 for ^G2212 wisdom ^G4678, 23 but we preach ^G2784 [fn]Christ ^G5547 crucified ^G4717, to Jews ^G2453 a stumbling ^G4625 block ^G4625 and to Gentiles ^G1484 foolishness ^G3472, 24 but to those ^G3588 who are the called ^G2822, both ^G5037 Jews ^G2453 and Greeks ^G1672, Christ ^G5547 the power ^G1411 of God ^G2316 and the wisdom ^G4678 of God ^G2316. 25 Because ^G3754 the foolishness ^G3474 of God ^G2316 is wiser ^G4680 than men ^G444, and the weakness ^G772 of God ^G2316 is stronger ^G2478 than men ^G444.

26 For [fn]consider ^G991 your calling ^G2821, brothers ^G80, that there were not many ^G4183 wise ^G4680 according ^G2596 to [fn]the flesh ^G4561, not many ^G4183 mighty ^G1415, not many ^G4183 noble ^G2104. 27 But God ^G2316 has chosen ^G1586 the foolish ^G3474 things ^G3474 of the world ^G2889 to shame ^G2617 the wise ^G4680, and God ^G2316 has chosen ^G1586 the weak ^G772 things ^G772 of the world ^G2889 to shame ^G2617 the things ^G2479 which are strong ^G2478, 28 and the base ^G36 things ^G36 of the world ^G2889 and the despised ^G1848 God ^G2316 has chosen ^G1586, the things that are not, so ^G2443 that He may abolish ^G2673 the things that are, 29 so ^G3704 that no ^G3361 G3956 flesh ^G4561 may boast ^G2744 before ^G1799 God ^G2316. 30 But by His doing you are in Christ ^G5547 Jesus ^G2424, who ^G3739 became ^G1096 to us wisdom ^G4678 from God ^G2316, [fn]and righteousness ^G1343 and sanctification ^G38, and redemption ^G629, 31 so ^G2443 that, just ^G2531 as it is written ^G1125, “LET HIM WHO BOASTS ^G2744, BOAST ^G2744 IN THE [fn]LORD ^G2962.”
