David Escapes from Saul

1 Then Saul ^H7586 spoke ^H1696 with Jonathan ^H3083 his son ^H1121 and all ^H3605 his servants ^H5650 to put ^H4191 David ^H1732 to ^H4191 death ^H4191. But Jonathan ^H3083, Saul’s ^H7586 son ^H1121, greatly ^H3966 delighted ^H2654 in David ^H1732.

2 So Jonathan ^H3083 told ^H5046 David ^H1732 saying ^H559, “Saul ^H7586 my father ^H1 is seeking ^H1245 to put ^H4191 you to ^H4191 death ^H4191. So now ^H6258, please ^H4994 be ^H8104 careful ^H8104 in the morning ^H1242, and stay ^H3427 in a secret ^H5643 place ^H5643 and hide ^H2244 yourself. 3 And I will go ^H3318 out ^H3318 and stand ^H5975 beside ^H3027 my father ^H1 in the field ^H7704 where ^H834 H8033 you are, and I will speak ^H1696 with my father ^H1 about you; what ^H4100 I [fn]perceive ^H7200, I will tell ^H5046 you.” 4 Then Jonathan ^H3083 spoke ^H1696 well ^H2896 of David ^H1732 to Saul ^H7586 his father ^H1 and said ^H559 to him, “Do not let the king ^H4428 sin ^H2398 against his servant ^H5650 David ^H1732, since ^H3588 he has not sinned ^H2398 against you, and since ^H3588 his works ^H4639 have been very ^H3966 good ^H2896 for you. 5 For he took ^H7760 his life ^H5315 in his hand ^H3709 and struck ^H5221 the Philistine ^H6430, and Yahweh ^H3068 brought ^H6213 about ^H6213 a great ^H1419 salvation ^H8668 for all ^H3605 Israel ^H3478; you saw ^H7200 it and were glad ^H8055. Why ^H4100 then will you sin ^H2398 against innocent ^H5355 blood ^H1818 by putting ^H4191 David ^H1732 to death ^H4191 without ^H2600 a ^H2600 cause ^H2600?” 6 And Saul ^H7586 listened ^H8085 to the voice ^H6963 of Jonathan ^H3083, and Saul ^H7586 swore ^H7650, “As Yahweh ^H3068 lives ^H2416, he shall not be put ^H4191 to ^H4191 death ^H4191.” 7 Then Jonathan ^H3083 called ^H7121 David ^H1732, and Jonathan ^H3083 told ^H5046 him all ^H3605 these ^H428 words ^H1697. And Jonathan ^H3083 brought ^H935 David ^H1732 to Saul ^H7586, and he was in his presence ^H6440 as formerly ^H8032 H865.

8 Then there was war ^H4421 again ^H3254. And David ^H1732 went ^H3318 out ^H3318 and fought ^H3898 with the Philistines ^H6430 and struck ^H5221 them with a great ^H1419 slaughter ^H4347, so that they fled ^H5127 before ^H4480 H6440 him. 9 Now there was an evil ^H7451 spirit ^H7307 from Yahweh ^H3068 on Saul ^H7586 as he was sitting ^H3427 in his house ^H1004 with his spear ^H2595 in his hand ^H3027, and David ^H1732 was playing ^H5059 the harp with his hand ^H3027. 10 And Saul ^H7586 tried ^H1245 to [fn]pin ^H5221 David ^H1732 to the wall ^H7023 with the spear ^H2595, but he slipped ^H6362 away ^H6362 out ^H6362 of Saul’s ^H7586 presence ^H6440, so that he [fn]stuck ^H5221 the spear ^H2595 into the wall ^H7023. And David ^H1732 fled ^H5127 and escaped ^H4422 that night ^H3915.

11 Then Saul ^H7586 sent ^H7971 messengers ^H4397 to David’s ^H1732 house ^H1004 to keep ^H8104 watch ^H8104 over him, in order to put ^H4191 him to ^H4191 death ^H4191 in the morning ^H1242. But Michal ^H4324, David’s ^H1732 wife ^H802, told ^H5046 him, saying ^H559, “If ^H518 you do not make ^H4422 an escape ^H4422 for your life ^H5315 tonight ^H3915, tomorrow ^H4279 you will be put ^H4191 to ^H4191 death ^H4191.” 12 So Michal ^H4324 let ^H3381 David ^H1732 down ^H3381 through ^H1157 a window ^H2474, and he went ^H1980 out and fled ^H1272 and escaped ^H4422. 13 Then Michal ^H4324 took ^H3947 the [fn]household ^H8655 idol ^H8655 and laid ^H7760 it on the bed ^H4296 and put ^H7760 a quilt ^H3523 of goats’ ^H5795 hair at ^H4763 its head ^H4763 and covered ^H3680 it with clothes ^H899. 14 Then Saul ^H7586 sent ^H7971 messengers ^H4397 to take ^H3947 David ^H1732, but she said ^H559, “He is ^H2470 sick ^H2470.” 15 So Saul ^H7586 sent ^H7971 messengers ^H4397 to see ^H7200 David ^H1732, saying ^H559, “Bring ^H5927 him up ^H5927 to me on [fn]his bed ^H4296, that I may put ^H4191 him to ^H4191 death ^H4191.” 16 The messengers ^H4397 came ^H935, and behold ^H2009, the [fn]household ^H8655 idol ^H8655 was on the bed ^H4296 with the quilt ^H3523 of goats’ ^H5795 hair at ^H4763 its head ^H4763. 17 So Saul ^H7586 said ^H559 to Michal ^H4324, “Why ^H4100 have you deceived ^H7411 me like ^H3602 this ^H3602 and let ^H7971 my enemy ^H340 go ^H7971, so that he has escaped ^H4422?” And Michal ^H4324 said ^H559 to Saul ^H7586, “He said ^H559 to me, ‘Let ^H7971 me go ^H7971! Why ^H4100 should I put ^H4191 you to ^H4191 death ^H4191?’”

18 Now David ^H1732 fled ^H1272 and escaped ^H4422 and came ^H935 to Samuel ^H8050 at Ramah ^H7414 and told ^H5046 him all ^H3605 that Saul ^H7586 had done ^H6213 to him. And he and Samuel ^H8050 went ^H1980 and stayed ^H3427 in Naioth ^H5121. 19 And it was told ^H5046 to Saul ^H7586, saying ^H559, “Behold ^H2009, David ^H1732 is at Naioth ^H5121 in Ramah ^H7414.” 20 Then Saul ^H7586 sent ^H7971 messengers ^H4397 to take ^H3947 David ^H1732, but they saw ^H7200 the company ^H3862 of the prophets ^H5030 prophesying ^H5012, with Samuel ^H8050 standing ^H5975 and presiding ^H5324 over ^H5921 them. And the Spirit ^H7307 of God ^H430 came ^H1961 upon the messengers ^H4397 of Saul ^H7586; and they also ^H1571 prophesied ^H5012. 21 This was told ^H5046 to Saul ^H7586, and he sent ^H7971 other ^H312 messengers ^H4397, and they also ^H1571 prophesied ^H5012. So Saul ^H7586 sent ^H7971 messengers ^H4397 again ^H3254 the third ^H7992 time ^H7992, and they also ^H1571 prophesied ^H5012. 22 Then he himself ^H1931 went ^H1980 to Ramah ^H7414 and came ^H935 as far ^H5704 as the large ^H1419 well ^H953 that is in Secu ^H7906; and he asked ^H7592 and said ^H559, “Where ^H375 are Samuel ^H8050 and David ^H1732?” And someone said ^H559, “Behold ^H2009, they are at Naioth ^H5121 in Ramah ^H7414.” 23 So he went ^H1980 there ^H8033, to Naioth ^H5121 in Ramah ^H7414; and the Spirit ^H7307 of God ^H430 came ^H1961 upon him also ^H1571, so that he went ^H1980 along prophesying ^H5012 continually ^H1980 until ^H5704 he came ^H935 to Naioth ^H5121 in Ramah ^H7414. 24 He also ^H1571 stripped ^H6584 off ^H6584 his clothes ^H899, and he too ^H1571 prophesied ^H5012 before ^H6440 Samuel ^H8050 and [fn]lay ^H5307 down ^H5307 [fn]naked ^H6174 all ^H3605 that day ^H3117 and all ^H3605 that night ^H3915. Therefore ^H5921 H3651 they say ^H559, “Is Saul ^H7586 also ^H1571 among the prophets ^H5030?”
