1 And the men ^H376 of Kiriath-jearim ^H7157 came ^H935 and brought ^H5927 the ark ^H727 of Yahweh ^H3068 up ^H5927 and brought ^H935 it into the house ^H1004 of Abinadab ^H41 on the hill ^H1389 and set ^H6942 apart ^H6942 Eleazar ^H499 his son ^H1121 as ^H6942 holy ^H6942 in order to keep ^H8104 the ark ^H727 of Yahweh ^H3068. 2 Now it happened from the day ^H3117 when the ark ^H727 remained ^H3427 at Kiriath-jearim ^H7157, that the time ^H3117 was ^H7235 long ^H7235; it was twenty ^H6242 years ^H8141. And all ^H3605 the house ^H1004 of Israel ^H3478 lamented ^H5091 after ^H310 Yahweh ^H3068.

3 Then Samuel ^H8050 spoke ^H559 to all ^H3605 the house ^H1004 of Israel ^H3478, saying ^H559, “If ^H518 you are to return ^H7725 to Yahweh ^H3068 with all ^H3605 your heart ^H3824, then remove ^H5493 the foreign ^H5236 gods ^H430 and the Ashtaroth ^H6252 from among ^H8432 you and set ^H3559 your hearts ^H3824 toward Yahweh ^H3068 and serve ^H5647 Him alone ^H905; and He will deliver ^H5337 you from the hand ^H3027 of the Philistines ^H6430.”

4 So the sons ^H1121 of Israel ^H3478 removed ^H5493 the Baals ^H1168 and the Ashtaroth ^H6252 and served ^H5647 Yahweh ^H3068 alone ^H905.

5 Then Samuel ^H8050 said ^H559, “Gather ^H6908 all ^H3605 Israel ^H3478 to Mizpah ^H4708, and I will pray ^H6419 to Yahweh ^H3068 for you.” 6 And they gathered ^H6908 to Mizpah ^H4709 and drew ^H7579 water ^H4325 and poured ^H8210 it out ^H8210 before ^H6440 Yahweh ^H3068 and fasted ^H6684 on that day ^H3117 and said ^H559 there ^H8033, “We have sinned ^H2398 against Yahweh ^H3068.” And Samuel ^H8050 judged ^H8199 the sons ^H1121 of Israel ^H3478 at Mizpah ^H4709.

7 Then the Philistines ^H6430 heard ^H8085 that the sons ^H1121 of Israel ^H3478 had gathered ^H6908 to Mizpah ^H4709. And the lords ^H5633 of the Philistines ^H6430 went ^H5927 up ^H5927 against ^H413 Israel ^H3478. Then the sons ^H1121 of Israel ^H3478 heard ^H8085 it and were ^H3372 afraid ^H3372 of the Philistines ^H6430. 8 So the sons ^H1121 of Israel ^H3478 said ^H559 to Samuel ^H8050, “Do not cease ^H2790 to cry ^H2199 out ^H2199 to Yahweh ^H3068 our God ^H430 for us, that He may save ^H3467 us from the hand ^H3027 of the Philistines ^H6430.” 9 And Samuel ^H8050 took ^H3947 a suckling ^H2461 lamb ^H2924 and offered ^H5927 it for a whole ^H3632 burnt ^H5930 offering ^H5930 to Yahweh ^H3068; and Samuel ^H8050 cried ^H2199 out ^H2199 to Yahweh ^H3068 for Israel ^H3478, and Yahweh ^H3068 answered ^H6030 him. 10 Now Samuel ^H8050 was offering ^H5927 up ^H5927 the burnt ^H5930 offering ^H5930, and the Philistines ^H6430 drew ^H5066 near ^H5066 to battle ^H4421 against Israel ^H3478. But Yahweh ^H3068 thundered ^H7481 with a great ^H1419 [fn]thunder ^H6963 on that day ^H3117 against ^H5921 the Philistines ^H6430 and confused ^H2000 them, so that they were [fn]defeated ^H5062 before ^H6440 Israel ^H3478. 11 So the men ^H376 of Israel ^H3478 went ^H3318 out ^H3318 of Mizpah ^H4709 and pursued ^H7291 the Philistines ^H6430 and struck ^H5221 them down ^H5221 as far ^H5704 as below ^H4480 H8478 Beth-car ^H1033.

12 Then Samuel ^H8050 took ^H3947 a stone ^H68 and set ^H7760 it between ^H996 Mizpah ^H4709 and Shen ^H8129, and he named ^H7121 H8034 it [fn]Ebenezer ^H72. And he said ^H559, “Thus ^H2008 far ^H5704 Yahweh ^H3068 has helped ^H5826 us.” 13 So the Philistines ^H6430 were subdued ^H3665, and they did not come ^H935 anymore ^H5750 within the border ^H1366 of Israel ^H3478. And the hand ^H3027 of Yahweh ^H3068 was against the Philistines ^H6430 all ^H3605 the days ^H3117 of Samuel ^H8050. 14 And the cities ^H5892 which ^H834 the Philistines ^H6430 had taken ^H3947 from Israel ^H3478 were restored ^H7725 to Israel ^H3478, from Ekron ^H6138 even to Gath ^H1661; and Israel ^H3478 delivered ^H5337 their territory ^H1366 from the hand ^H3027 of the Philistines ^H6430. So there was peace ^H7965 between ^H996 Israel ^H3478 and the Amorites ^H567.

15 Thus Samuel ^H8050 judged ^H8199 Israel ^H3478 all ^H3605 the days ^H3117 of his life ^H2416. 16 And he used to go ^H1980 annually ^H1767 H8141 on ^H5437 circuit ^H5437 to Bethel ^H1008 and Gilgal ^H1537 and Mizpah ^H4709, and he judged ^H8199 Israel ^H3478 in all ^H3605 these ^H428 places ^H4725. 17 But his return ^H8666 would be to Ramah ^H7414, for his house ^H1004 was there ^H8033, and there ^H8033 he judged ^H8199 Israel ^H3478; and he built ^H1129 there ^H8033 an altar ^H4196 to Yahweh ^H3068.
