Shishak of Egypt Comes Against Judah

1 Now it happened that when the kingdom ^H4438 of Rehoboam ^H7346 was established ^H3559 and strong ^H2393, he and all ^H3605 Israel ^H3478 with him forsook ^H5800 the law ^H8451 of Yahweh ^H3068.

2 Now it happened ^H1961 in the fifth ^H2549 year ^H8141 of King ^H4428 Rehoboam ^H7346, because ^H3588 they had been ^H4603 unfaithful ^H4603 to Yahweh ^H3068, that Shishak ^H7895 king ^H4428 of Egypt ^H4714 came ^H5927 up ^H5927 against ^H5921 Jerusalem ^H3389 3 with 1,200 ^H505 H3967 chariots ^H7393 and 60,000 ^H8346 H505 horsemen ^H6571. And the people ^H5971 who ^H834 came ^H935 with him from Egypt ^H4714 were without ^H369 number ^H4557: the Lubim ^H3864, the Sukkiim ^H5525 and the Ethiopians ^H3569. 4 And he captured ^H3920 the fortified ^H4694 cities ^H5892 of Judah ^H3063 and came ^H935 as far ^H5704 as Jerusalem ^H3389. 5 Now Shemaiah ^H8098 the prophet ^H5030 came ^H935 to Rehoboam ^H7346 and the princes ^H8269 of Judah ^H3063 who ^H834 had gathered ^H622 at Jerusalem ^H3389 because ^H4480 H6440 of Shishak ^H7895, and he said ^H559 to them, “Thus ^H3541 says ^H559 Yahweh ^H3068, ‘You have forsaken ^H5800 Me, so I also ^H637 have forsaken ^H5800 you [fn]to Shishak ^H7895.’” 6 So the princes ^H8269 of Israel ^H3478 and the king ^H4428 humbled ^H3665 themselves and said ^H559, “Yahweh ^H3068 is righteous ^H6662.”

7 When Yahweh ^H3068 saw ^H7200 that they humbled ^H3665 themselves, the word ^H1697 of Yahweh ^H3068 came ^H1961 to Shemaiah ^H8098, saying ^H559, “They have humbled ^H3665 themselves so I will not bring them to ruin ^H7843, but I will grant ^H5414 them some ^H4592 measure of escape ^H6413, and My wrath ^H2534 shall not be poured ^H5413 out ^H5413 on Jerusalem ^H3389 by the hand ^H3027 of Shishak ^H7895. 8 But they will become ^H1961 his slaves ^H5650 so that they may know ^H3045 the difference between My slavery ^H5656 and the slavery ^H5656 of the kingdoms ^H4467 of the countries ^H776.”

Shishak Takes from Yahweh’s House

9 So Shishak ^H7895 king ^H4428 of Egypt ^H4714 came ^H5927 up ^H5927 against ^H5921 Jerusalem ^H3389, and took ^H3947 the treasures ^H214 of the house ^H1004 of Yahweh ^H3068 and the treasures ^H214 of the king’s ^H4428 house ^H1004. 10 Then King ^H4428 Rehoboam ^H7346 made ^H6213 shields ^H4043 of bronze ^H5178 in ^H8478 their place ^H8478 and committed ^H6485 them to the hand ^H3027 of the commanders ^H8269 of the [fn]guard ^H7323 who kept ^H8104 the door ^H6607 of the king’s ^H4428 house ^H1004. 11 Now it happened that as often ^H1767 as the king ^H4428 entered ^H935 the house ^H1004 of Yahweh ^H3068, the [fn]guards ^H7323 would come ^H935 and carry ^H5375 them and then bring ^H7725 them back ^H7725 into the [fn]guards’ ^H7323 room ^H8372. 12 And when he humbled ^H3665 himself, the anger ^H639 of Yahweh ^H3068 turned ^H7725 away ^H7725 from him, so as not to ruin ^H7843 him completely ^H3617; and also ^H1571 conditions ^H1697 were good ^H2896 in Judah ^H3063.

Now there were wars ^H4421 between Rehoboam ^H7346 and Jeroboam ^H3379 all ^H3605 their days ^H3117. 16 And Rehoboam ^H7346 slept ^H7901 with his fathers ^H1 and was buried ^H6912 in the city ^H5892 of David ^H1732; and Abijah ^H29 his son ^H1121 became ^H4427 king ^H4427 in ^H8478 his place ^H8478.
