Asa Wars Against Baasha

1 In the thirty-sixth ^H7970 H8337 year ^H8141 of Asa’s ^H609 reign ^H4438 Baasha ^H1201 king ^H4428 of Israel ^H3478 went ^H5927 up ^H5927 against ^H5921 Judah ^H3063 and built ^H1129 up ^H1129 Ramah ^H7414 in order to prevent ^H1115 H5414 anyone from going ^H3318 out ^H3318 or coming ^H935 in ^H935 to Asa ^H609 king ^H4428 of Judah ^H3063.

2 Then Asa ^H609 brought ^H3318 out ^H3318 silver ^H3701 and gold ^H2091 from the treasuries ^H214 of the house ^H1004 of Yahweh ^H3068 and the king’s ^H4428 house ^H1004, and sent ^H7971 them to Ben-hadad ^H1130 king ^H4428 of Aram ^H758, who lived ^H3427 in Damascus ^H1834, saying ^H559, 3 “Let there be a covenant ^H1285 between ^H996 [fn]you and me, as between ^H996 my father ^H1 and your father ^H1. Behold ^H2009, I have sent ^H7971 you silver ^H3701 and gold ^H2091; go ^H1980, break ^H6565 your covenant ^H1285 with Baasha ^H1201 king ^H4428 of Israel ^H3478 so that he will withdraw ^H5927 from me.” 4 So Ben-hadad ^H1130 listened ^H8085 to King ^H4428 Asa ^H609 and sent ^H7971 the commanders ^H8269 of his military ^H2428 forces ^H2428 against ^H413 the cities ^H5892 of Israel ^H3478, and they struck ^H5221 down ^H5221 Ijon ^H5859, Dan ^H1835, Abel-maim ^H66, and all ^H3605 the [fn]store ^H4543 cities ^H5892 of Naphtali ^H5321. 5 Now it happened that when Baasha ^H1201 heard ^H8085 of it, he ceased ^H2308 building ^H1129 up ^H1129 Ramah ^H7414 and stopped ^H7673 his work ^H4399. 6 Then King ^H4428 Asa ^H609 brought ^H3947 all ^H3605 Judah ^H3063, and they carried ^H5375 away the stones ^H68 of Ramah ^H7414 and its timber ^H6086 with which ^H834 Baasha ^H1201 had been building ^H1129, and with them he built ^H1129 Geba ^H1387 and Mizpah ^H4709.

Asa Imprisons a Seer

7 Now at that time ^H6256 Hanani ^H2607 the seer ^H7203 came ^H935 to Asa ^H609 king ^H4428 of Judah ^H3063 and said ^H559 to him, “Because you have leaned ^H8172 on the king ^H4428 of Aram ^H758 and have not leaned ^H8172 on Yahweh ^H3068 your God ^H430, therefore ^H5921 H3651 the military ^H2428 force ^H2428 of the king ^H4428 of Aram ^H758 has escaped ^H4422 out of your hand ^H3027.

8 Were not the Ethiopians ^H3569 and the Lubim ^H3864 a vast ^H7230 military ^H2428 force ^H2428 with an exceedingly ^H3966 vast ^H7235 number of chariots ^H7393 and horsemen ^H6571? Yet because you leaned ^H8172 on Yahweh ^H3068, He gave ^H5414 them into your hand ^H3027. 9 For the eyes ^H5869 of Yahweh ^H3068 move ^H7751 to and fro ^H7751 throughout ^H3605 the earth ^H776 that He may strongly ^H2388 support ^H2388 those whose heart ^H3824 is wholly ^H8003 devoted ^H8003 to Him. You have acted ^H5528 foolishly ^H5528 in this ^H2088. Indeed ^H3588, from now ^H6258 on you will surely have ^H3426 wars ^H4421.” 10 Then Asa ^H609 was vexed ^H3707 with the seer ^H7203 and put ^H5414 him in [fn]prison ^H1004 H4115, for he was enraged ^H2197 at him for this ^H2088. And Asa ^H609 oppressed ^H7533 some ^H4480 of the people ^H5971 at the same ^H1931 time ^H6256.

11 Now behold ^H2009, the acts ^H1697 of Asa ^H609 from first ^H7223 to last ^H314, behold ^H2009, they are written ^H3789 in the Book ^H5612 of the Kings ^H4428 of Judah ^H3063 and Israel ^H3478. 12 And Asa ^H609 became ^H2456 diseased ^H2456 in his feet ^H7272 in the thirty-ninth ^H7970 H8672 year ^H8141 of his reign ^H4438. His disease ^H2483 was severe ^H4605, yet even ^H1571 in his disease ^H2483 he did not seek ^H1875 Yahweh ^H3068, but the physicians ^H7495. 13 So Asa ^H609 slept ^H7901 with his fathers ^H1. And he died ^H4191 in the forty-first ^H705 H259 year ^H8141 of his reign ^H4427. 14 And they buried ^H6912 him in his own tomb ^H6913 which ^H834 he had [fn]cut ^H3738 out ^H3738 for himself in the city ^H5892 of David ^H1732, and they laid ^H7901 him in the resting ^H4904 place ^H4904 which ^H834 he had filled ^H4390 with spices ^H1314 of various kinds ^H2177 blended ^H7543 by the perfumers’ ^H4842 art ^H4639; and they made ^H8313 a very ^H5704 H3966 great ^H1419 fire ^H8316 for him.
