Ahaz Reigns over Judah
1 In the seventeenth H7651 H6240 year H8141 of Pekah H6492 the son H1121 of Remaliah H7425, Ahaz H271 the son H1121 of Jotham H3147, king H4428 of Judah H3063, became H4427 king H4427.
2 Ahaz H271 was twenty H6242 years H8141 old H1121 when he became H4427 king H4427, and he reigned H4427 sixteen H8337 H6240 years H8141 in Jerusalem H3389; and he did not do H6213 what H3477 was H3477 right H3477 in the sight H5869 of Yahweh H3068 his God H430, as David H1732 his father H1 had done. 3 But he walked H1980 in the way H1870 of the kings H4428 of Israel H3478, and even H1571 made his son H1121 pass H5674 through the fire H784, according to the abominations H8441 of the nations H1471 whom H834 Yahweh H3068 had dispossessed H3423 from before H6440 the sons H1121 of Israel H3478. 4 He also sacrificed H2076 and burned H6999 incense H6999 on the high H1116 places H1116 and on the hills H1389 and under H8478 every H3605 green H7488 tree H6086.
5 Then H227 Rezin H7526 king H4428 of Aram H758 and Pekah H6492 son H1121 of Remaliah H7425, king H4428 of Israel H3478, went H5927 up H5927 to Jerusalem H3389 to wage war H4421; and they besieged H6696 H5921 Ahaz H271, but could H3201 not [fn]overcome H3898 him. 6 At that time H6256 Rezin H7526 king H4428 of Aram H758 restored H7725 Elath H359 for Aram H758 and cleared H5394 the Judeans H3064 out of [fn]Elath H359 entirely; and the [fn]Arameans H130 came H935 to Elath H359 and have lived H3427 there H8033 to this H2088 day H3117.
Ahaz Sends for Help from Assyria
7 So Ahaz H271 sent H7971 messengers H4397 to Tiglath-pileser H8407 king H4428 of Assyria H804, saying H559, “I am your servant H5650 and your son H1121; come H5927 up H5927 and save H3467 me from the [fn]hand H3709 of the king H4428 of Aram H758 and from the [fn]hand H3709 of the king H4428 of Israel H3478, who are rising H6965 up H6965 against H5921 me.”
8 Ahaz H271 also took H3947 the silver H3701 and gold H2091 that was found H4672 in the house H1004 of Yahweh H3068 and in the treasuries H214 of the king’s H4428 house H1004, and sent H7971 a gift H7810 to the king H4428 of Assyria H804. 9 So the king H4428 of Assyria H804 listened H8085 to him; and the king H4428 of Assyria H804 went H5927 up H5927 against H413 Damascus H1834 and seized H8610 it and took H1540 the people of it away H1540 into H1540 exile H1540 to Kir H7024, and put H4191 Rezin H7526 to H4191 death H4191.
Ahaz Has Urijah Build an Altar
10 Now King H4428 Ahaz H271 went H1980 to Damascus H1834 to meet H7122 Tiglath-pileser H8407 king H4428 of Assyria H804 and saw H7200 the altar H4196 which H834 was at Damascus H1834; and King H4428 Ahaz H271 sent H7971 to Urijah H223 the priest H3548 the likeness H1823 of the altar H4196 and its pattern H8403, according to all H3605 its workmanship H4639.
11 So Urijah H223 the priest H3548 built H1129 an altar H4196; according to all H3605 that King H4428 Ahaz H271 had sent H7971 from Damascus H1834, thus H3651 Urijah H223 the priest H3548 made H6213 it, [fn]before H5704 the coming H935 of King H4428 Ahaz H271 from Damascus H1834. 12 So the king H4428 came H935 from Damascus H1834, and the king H4428 saw H7200 the altar H4196; then the king H4428 drew H7126 near H7126 the altar H4196 and [fn]made H5927 offerings H5927 on it, 13 and offered H6999 his burnt H5930 offering H5930 and his meal H4503 offering H4503 up H6999 in H6999 smoke H6999, and poured H5258 his drink H5262 offering H5262 and splashed H2236 the blood H1818 of his peace H8002 offerings H8002 on the altar H4196. 14 Now as for the bronze H5178 altar H4196, which H834 was before H6440 Yahweh H3068, [fn]he drew H7126 it away from the front H6440 of the house H1004, from between H996 his altar H4196 and the house H1004 of Yahweh H3068, and he put H5414 it on the north H6828 side H3409 of his altar H4196. 15 Then King H4428 Ahaz H271 [fn]commanded H6680 Urijah H223 the priest H3548, saying H559, “Upon the great H1419 altar H4196 offer H6999 up H6999 in H6999 smoke H6999 the morning H1242 burnt H5930 offering H5930 and the evening H6153 grain H4503 offering H4503 and the king’s H4428 burnt H5930 offering H5930 and his grain H4503 offering H4503, with the burnt H5930 offering H5930 of all H3605 the people H5971 of the land H776 and their grain H4503 offering H4503 and their drink H5262 offerings H5262; and splash H2236 on it all H3605 the blood H1818 of the burnt H5930 offering H5930 and all H3605 the blood H1818 of the sacrifice H2077. But the bronze H5178 altar H4196 shall be for me to inquire H1239 by.” 16 So Urijah H223 the priest H3548 did H6213 according to all H3605 that King H4428 Ahaz H271 commanded H6680.
17 Then King H4428 Ahaz H271 cut H7112 off H7112 the borders H4526 of the stands H4350 and removed H5493 the laver H3595 from them; he also took H3381 down H3381 the sea H3220 from the bronze H5178 oxen H1241 which H834 were under H8478 it and put H5414 it on a pavement H4837 of stone H68. 18 And the covered H4329 way H4329 for the sabbath H7676 which H834 they had built H1129 in the house H1004, and the outer H2435 entry H3996 of the king H4428, he removed H5437 from the house H1004 of Yahweh H3068 because H4480 H6440 of the king H4428 of Assyria H804.
Hezekiah Reigns over Judah
19 Now the rest H3499 of the acts H1697 of Ahaz H271 which H834 he did H6213, are they not written H3789 in the Book H5612 of the Chronicles H1697 H3117 of the Kings H4428 of Judah H3063? 20 So Ahaz H271 slept H7901 with his fathers H1 and was buried H6912 with his fathers H1 in the city H5892 of David H1732; and Hezekiah H2396 his son H1121 became H4427 king H4427 in H8478 his place H8478.
