Jehoshaphat Returns to Jerusalem
1 Then Jehoshaphat H3092 the king H4428 of Judah H3063 returned H7725 in peace H7965 to his house H1004 in Jerusalem H3389.
2 And Jehu H3058 the son H1121 of Hanani H2607 the seer H2374 went H3318 out H3318 to meet him to his face H6440 and said H559 to King H4428 Jehoshaphat H3092, “Should you help H5826 the wicked H7563 and love H157 those who hate H8130 Yahweh H3068 and [fn]so H2088 bring wrath H7110 on yourself from Yahweh H3068? 3 But some good H2896 has been found H4672 in you, for you have purged H1197 the [fn]Asheroth H842 from the land H776 and you have set H3559 your heart H3824 to seek H1875 God H430.”
4 So Jehoshaphat H3092 lived H3427 in Jerusalem H3389. Indeed, he returned H7725 and went H3318 out H3318 among the people H5971 from Beersheba H884 to the hill H2022 country H2022 of Ephraim H669 and caused them to return H7725 back H7725 to Yahweh H3068, the God H430 of their fathers H1.
Jehoshaphat Appoints Judges
5 And he appointed H5975 judges H8199 in the land H776 in all H3605 the fortified H1219 cities H5892 of Judah H3063, in each city H5892. 6 And he said H559 to the judges H8199, “Consider H7200 what H4100 you are doing H6213, for you do not judge H8199 for man H120 but for Yahweh H3068 who is with you [fn]when you render H1697 judgment H4941. 7 So now H6258 then let the dread H6343 of Yahweh H3068 be upon you; [fn]be H8104 careful H8104 what you do H6213, because [fn]with Yahweh H3068 our God H430 there H369 is H369 no H369 unrighteousness H5766 or partiality H5375 H6440 or the taking H4727 of a bribe H7810.”
8 In Jerusalem H3389 also H1571 Jehoshaphat H3092 appointed H5975 some H4480 of the Levites H3881 and priests H3548, and some H4480 of the heads H7218 of the fathers’ H1 households of Israel H3478, for the judgment H4941 of Yahweh H3068 and to judge H7378 [fn]disputes H7378. So they returned H7725 to Jerusalem H3389. 9 Then he commanded H6680 them saying H559, “Thus H3541 you shall do H6213 in the fear H3374 of Yahweh H3068, faithfully H530 and wholeheartedly H3824 H8003. 10 Whenever H834 any H3605 dispute H7379 comes H935 to you from your brothers H251 who live H3427 in their cities H5892, between H996 blood H1818 and blood H1818, between H996 law H8451 and commandment H4687, statutes H2706 and judgments H4941, you shall warn H2094 them so that they may not be guilty H816 before Yahweh H3068 and wrath H7110 may not come H1961 on you and your brothers H251. Thus H3541 you shall do H6213, and you will not be guilty H816. 11 And behold H2009, Amariah H568 the chief H7218 priest H3548 will be over H5921 you in [fn]all H3605 that pertains H1697 to Yahweh H3068, and Zebadiah H2069 the son H1121 of Ishmael H3458, the ruler H5057 of the house H1004 of Judah H3063, in [fn]all H3605 that pertains H1697 to the king H4428. Also the Levites H3881 shall be officers H7860 before H6440 you. Be strong H2388 and act H6213, and Yahweh H3068 be with the one who is good H2896.”
