Moab Rebels Against Israel

1 Now Jehoram ^H3088 the son ^H1121 of Ahab ^H256 became ^H4427 king ^H4427 over ^H5921 Israel ^H3478 at Samaria ^H8111 in the eighteenth ^H8083 H6240 year ^H8141 of Jehoshaphat ^H3092 king ^H4428 of Judah ^H3063, and reigned ^H4427 twelve ^H8147 H6240 years ^H8141.

2 And he did ^H6213 what ^H7451 was evil ^H7451 in the sight ^H5869 of Yahweh ^H3068, though ^H7534 not like his father ^H1 and his mother ^H517; and he took ^H5493 away ^H5493 the sacred pillar ^H4676 of Baal ^H1168 which ^H834 his father ^H1 had made ^H6213. 3 Nevertheless ^H7534, he clung ^H1692 to the sins ^H2403 of Jeroboam ^H3379 the son ^H1121 of Nebat ^H5028, which ^H834 he made Israel ^H3478 sin ^H2398; he did not turn ^H5493 away ^H5493 from them.

4 Now Mesha ^H4338 king ^H4428 of Moab ^H4124 was a sheep ^H5349 breeder ^H5349 and used to pay ^H7725 the king ^H4428 of Israel ^H3478 100,000 ^H3967 H505 lambs ^H3733 and the wool ^H6785 of 100,000 ^H3967 H505 rams ^H352. 5 But it happened that when Ahab ^H256 died ^H4194, the king ^H4428 of Moab ^H4124 rebelled ^H6586 against the king ^H4428 of Israel ^H3478. 6 And King ^H4428 Jehoram ^H3088 went ^H3318 out ^H3318 of Samaria ^H8111 [fn]at that time ^H3117 and mustered ^H6485 all ^H3605 Israel ^H3478. 7 Then he went ^H1980 and sent ^H7971 word to Jehoshaphat ^H3092 the king ^H4428 of Judah ^H3063, saying ^H559, “The king ^H4428 of Moab ^H4124 has rebelled ^H6586 against me. Will you go ^H1980 with me to fight ^H4421 against ^H413 Moab ^H4124?” And he said ^H559, “I will go ^H5927 up ^H5927; I am as you are, my people ^H5971 as your people ^H5971, my horses ^H5483 as your horses ^H5483.” 8 And he said ^H559, “Which ^H335 H2088 way ^H1870 shall we go ^H5927 up ^H5927?” And he [fn]answered ^H559, “The way ^H1870 of the wilderness ^H4057 of Edom ^H123.”

9 So the king ^H4428 of Israel ^H3478 went ^H1980 with the king ^H4428 of Judah ^H3063 and the king ^H4428 of Edom ^H123; and they went ^H5437 around ^H5437 on a seven ^H7651 days’ ^H3117 journey ^H1870, and there was no ^H3808 water ^H4325 for the camp ^H4264 or for the cattle ^H929 that [fn]followed ^H7272 them. 10 Then the king ^H4428 of Israel ^H3478 said ^H559, “Alas ^H162! For Yahweh ^H3068 has called ^H7121 these ^H428 three ^H7969 kings ^H4428 to give ^H5414 them into the hand ^H3027 of Moab ^H4124.” 11 But Jehoshaphat ^H3092 said ^H559, “Is ^H369 there ^H369 not ^H369 a prophet ^H5030 of Yahweh ^H3068 here ^H6311, that we may inquire ^H1875 of Yahweh ^H3068 by him?” And one ^H259 of the king ^H4428 of Israel’s ^H3478 servants ^H5650 answered ^H6030 and said ^H559, “Elisha ^H477 the son ^H1121 of Shaphat ^H8202 is here ^H6311, who ^H834 used to pour ^H3332 water ^H4325 on the hands ^H3027 of Elijah ^H452.” 12 And Jehoshaphat ^H3092 said ^H559, “The word ^H1697 of Yahweh ^H3068 is with him.” So the king ^H4428 of Israel ^H3478 and Jehoshaphat ^H3092 and the king ^H4428 of Edom ^H123 went ^H3381 down ^H3381 to him.

13 Now Elisha ^H477 said ^H559 to the king ^H4428 of Israel ^H3478, “What ^H4100 do I have to do with you? Go ^H1980 to the prophets ^H5030 of your father ^H1 and to the prophets ^H5030 of your mother ^H517.” And the king ^H4428 of Israel ^H3478 said ^H559 to him, “No ^H408, for Yahweh ^H3068 has called ^H7121 these ^H428 three ^H7969 kings ^H4428 together to give ^H5414 them into the hand ^H3027 of Moab ^H4124.” 14 And Elisha ^H477 said ^H559, “As Yahweh ^H3068 of hosts ^H6635 lives ^H2416, before ^H6440 whom ^H834 I stand ^H5975, were it not that I regard ^H5375 the presence ^H6440 of Jehoshaphat ^H3092 the king ^H4428 of Judah ^H3063, I would not look ^H5027 at you nor ^H518 see ^H7200 you. 15 So now ^H6258 bring ^H3947 me a musician ^H5059.” And it came ^H1961 about ^H1961, when the musician ^H5059 played ^H5059, that the hand ^H3027 of Yahweh ^H3068 came ^H1961 upon him. 16 And he said ^H559, “Thus ^H3541 says ^H559 Yahweh ^H3068, ‘Make ^H6213 this ^H2088 valley ^H5158 full ^H1356 of trenches ^H1356.’ 17 For thus ^H3541 says ^H559 Yahweh ^H3068, ‘You shall not see ^H7200 wind ^H7307 nor ^H3808 shall you see ^H7200 rain ^H1653; yet that valley ^H5158 shall be filled ^H4390 with water ^H4325, so that you shall drink ^H8354, both you and your livestock ^H4735 and your cattle ^H929. 18 And this ^H2088 is ^H7043 but a ^H7043 light ^H7043 thing ^H7043 in the sight ^H5869 of Yahweh ^H3068; He will also give ^H5414 the Moabites ^H4124 into your hand ^H3027. 19 Then you shall strike ^H5221 every ^H3605 fortified ^H4013 city ^H5892 and every ^H3605 choice ^H4004 city ^H5892, and fell ^H5307 every ^H3605 good ^H2896 tree ^H6086 and stop ^H5640 all ^H3605 springs ^H4599 of water ^H4325, and mar ^H3510 every ^H3605 good ^H2896 piece ^H2513 of ^H2513 land ^H2513 with stones ^H68.’” 20 Then it happened ^H1961 in the morning ^H1242 about the time of offering ^H5927 the sacrifice ^H4503, that behold ^H2009, water ^H4325 came ^H935 by the way ^H1870 of Edom ^H123, and the country ^H776 was filled ^H4390 with water ^H4325.
