Paul’s Trial Before Felix the Governor

1 Now after ^G3326 five ^G4002 days ^G2250 the high ^G749 priest ^G749 Ananias ^G367 came ^G2597 down ^G2597 with some ^G5100 elders ^G4245, [fn]with an [fn]attorney ^G4489 named Tertullus ^G5061, and they [fn]brought ^G1718 charges ^G1718 to the governor ^G2232 against ^G2596 Paul ^G3972.

2 And after Paul had been summoned ^G2564, Tertullus ^G5061 began ^G757 to accuse ^G2723 him, saying ^G3004,

“As we have attained ^G5177 much ^G4183 peace ^G1515 through ^G1223 you—and because by your provision ^G4307 reforms ^G2735 are being ^G1096 carried ^G1096 out ^G1096 for this ^G3778 nation ^G1484— 3 we welcome ^G588 this in every ^G3839 way ^G3839 and everywhere ^G3837, most ^G2903 excellent ^G2903 Felix ^G5344, with all ^G3956 thankfulness ^G2169. 4 But, that I may not weary ^G1465 you any ^G1909 further ^G1909 G4183, I plead ^G3870 with you by your forbearance ^G1932 to hear ^G191 us briefly ^G4935. 5 For we have found ^G2147 this ^G3778 man ^G435 a real pest ^G3061 and a fellow who stirs ^G2795 up ^G2795 dissension ^G4714 among all ^G3956 the Jews ^G2453 throughout ^G2596 [fn]the world ^G3625, and a ringleader ^G4414 of the sect ^G139 of the Nazarenes ^G3480. 6 And he even ^G2532 tried ^G3985 to desecrate ^G953 the temple ^G2413; and [fn]then ^G2532 we arrested ^G2902 him. [fn][We wanted ^G2309 to judge ^G2919 him according ^G2596 to our own Law ^G3551. 7 But Lysias ^G3079 the commander ^G5506 came ^G3928 along ^G3928, and with much ^G4183 violence ^G970 took ^G520 him out of our hands ^G5495, 8 ordering ^G2753 his accusers ^G2725 to come ^G2064 before ^G1909 you.] By examining ^G350 him yourself ^G846 concerning ^G4012 all ^G3956 these ^G3778 matters you will be able ^G1410 to ascertain ^G1921 the things of which ^G3739 we accuse ^G2723 him.” 9 And the Jews ^G2453 also ^G2532 joined ^G2007 in ^G2007 the attack ^G2007, asserting ^G5335 that these ^G3778 things ^G3778 were so ^G3779.

10 And when the governor ^G2232 had nodded ^G3506 for him to speak ^G3004, Paul ^G3972 answered ^G611:

22 But Felix ^G5344, having ^G6063 a more ^G199 accurate ^G199 knowledge ^G6063 about ^G4012 the Way ^G3598, put ^G306 them off ^G306, saying ^G3004, “When ^G3752 Lysias ^G3079 the [fn]commander ^G5506 comes ^G2597 down ^G2597, I will decide ^G1231 your case ^G3588 G2596.” 23 Then ^G2532 he gave ^G1299 orders ^G1299 to the centurion ^G1543 for him to be kept ^G5083 in ^G5083 custody ^G5083 and yet have ^G2192 some rest ^G425, and not to prevent ^G2967 any ^G3367 of his friends ^G2398 from ministering ^G5256 to ^G5256 him.

24 But some ^G5100 days ^G2250 later ^G3326 Felix ^G5344 arrived ^G3854 with Drusilla ^G1409, his [fn]wife ^G1135 who was a Jewess ^G2453, and summoned ^G3343 Paul ^G3972 and heard ^G191 him speak about ^G4012 faith ^G4102 in Christ ^G5547 Jesus ^G2424. 25 But as he was discussing ^G1256 righteousness ^G1343, self-control ^G1466, and the judgment ^G2917 to ^G3195 come ^G3195, Felix ^G5344 became ^G1096 frightened ^G1719 and answered ^G611, “Go ^G4198 away ^G4198 for the present ^G3568, and when I find ^G3335 time ^G2540 I will call ^G3333 for you.” 26 At the same ^G260 time ^G260, he was also ^G2532 hoping ^G1679 that money ^G5536 would be given ^G1325 him by Paul ^G3972; therefore ^G1352 he also ^G2532 used to summon ^G3343 for him quite ^G4437 often ^G4437 and converse ^G3656 with him. 27 But after two ^G1333 years ^G1333 had passed ^G4137, Felix ^G5344 [fn]was succeeded ^G1240 by Porcius ^G4201 Festus ^G5347, and wishing ^G2309 to do ^G2698 the Jews ^G2453 a favor ^G5485, Felix ^G5344 left ^G2641 Paul ^G3972 imprisoned ^G1210.
