Peter and John Arrested

1 Now as they were speaking ^G2980 to the people ^G2992, the priests ^G2409 and the captain ^G4755 of the temple ^G2413 guard and the Sadducees ^G4523 came ^G2186 up ^G2186 to them,

2 being greatly ^G1278 agitated ^G1278 because ^G1223 they were teaching ^G1321 the people ^G2992 and proclaiming ^G2605 [fn]in Jesus ^G2424 the resurrection ^G386 from the dead ^G3498. 3 And they laid ^G1911 hands ^G5495 on ^G1911 them and put ^G5087 them in jail ^G5084 until ^G1519 the next ^G839 day ^G839, for it was already ^G2235 evening ^G2073. 4 But many ^G4183 of those ^G3588 who had heard ^G191 the [fn]message ^G3056 believed ^G4100, and the number ^G706 of the men ^G435 came ^G1096 to be about ^G5613 five ^G4002 thousand ^G5505.

Peter and John Threatened and Released

13 Now ^G1161 as they observed ^G2334 the confidence ^G3954 of Peter ^G4074 and John ^G2491 and comprehended ^G2638 that they were uneducated ^G62 and ordinary ^G2399 men ^G444, they were ^G2296 marveling ^G2296, and began to recognize ^G1921 them [fn]as having been ^G1510 with Jesus ^G2424.

14 And seeing ^G991 the man ^G444 who had been healed ^G2323 standing ^G2476 with them, they had ^G2192 nothing ^G3762 to say ^G471 in ^G471 reply ^G471. 15 But when they had ordered ^G2753 them to leave ^G565 the [fn]Sanhedrin ^G4892, they began to confer ^G4820 with one ^G240 another ^G240, 16 saying ^G3004, “What ^G5101 should we do ^G4160 with these ^G3778 men ^G444? 23 So when they were released ^G630, they went ^G2064 to their own ^G2398 companions and reported ^G518 all ^G3745 that the chief ^G749 priests ^G749 and the elders ^G4245 had said ^G3004 to them. 24 And when they heard ^G191 this, they lifted ^G142 their voices ^G5456 to God ^G2316 with one ^G3661 accord ^G3661 and said ^G3004, “O Master ^G1203, it is You who MADE THE HEAVEN ^G3772 AND THE EARTH ^G1093 AND THE SEA ^G2281, AND ALL ^G3956 THAT IS IN THEM, 25 who by the Holy ^G40 Spirit ^G4151, through the mouth ^G4750 of our father ^G3962 David ^G1138 Your servant ^G3816, said ^G3004,

‘WHY ^G2443 G5101 DID THE [fn]GENTILES ^G1484 RAGE ^G5433,

AND THE PEOPLES ^G2992 DEVISE ^G3191 VAIN ^G2756 THINGS ^G2756?

26 ‘THE KINGS ^G935 OF THE EARTH ^G1093 [fn]TOOK ^G3936 THEIR STAND ^G3936,

AND THE RULERS ^G758 WERE GATHERED ^G4863 TOGETHER ^{G1909 G3588 G846}

AGAINST ^G2596 THE LORD ^G2962 AND AGAINST ^G2596 HIS [fn]CHRIST ^G5547.’

27 For truly ^G1909 G225 in this ^G3778 city ^G4172 there were gathered ^G4863 together ^G4863 against ^G1909 Your holy ^G40 [fn]Servant ^G3816 Jesus ^G2424, whom ^G3739 You anointed ^G5548, both ^G5037 Herod ^G2264 and Pontius ^G4194 Pilate ^G4091, along ^G4862 with the [fn]Gentiles ^G1484 and the peoples ^G2992 of Israel ^G2474, 28 to do ^G4160 whatever ^G3745 Your hand ^G5495 and Your purpose ^G1012 predestined ^G4309 to occur ^G1096. 29 And [fn]now ^G3568, Lord ^G2962, take ^G1896 note ^G1896 of their threats ^G547, and grant ^G1325 that Your slaves ^G1401 may speak ^G2980 Your word ^G3056 with all ^G3956 confidence ^G3954, 30 while ^G1722 You extend ^G1614 Your hand ^G5495 to heal ^G2392, and [fn]signs ^G4592 and wonders ^G5059 happen ^G1096 through ^G1223 the name ^G3686 of Your holy ^G40 [fn]Servant ^G3816 Jesus ^G2424.” 31 And when they had prayed ^G1189 earnestly ^G1189, the place ^G5117 where ^G1722 G3739 they had gathered ^G4863 together ^G4863 was shaken ^G4531, and they were all ^G537 filled ^G4130 with the Holy ^G40 Spirit ^G4151 and began to speak ^G2980 the word ^G3056 of God ^G2316 with confidence ^G3954.

Distribution Among Needy Believers

32 And the [fn]congregation ^G4128 of those ^G3588 who believed ^G4100 were of one ^G1520 heart ^G2588 and soul ^G5590, and not one ^G1520 was saying ^G3004 that any ^G5100 of his possessions ^G5225 was his own ^G2398, but, for them, everything ^G3956 was common ^G2839.

33 And with great ^G3173 power ^G1411 the apostles ^G652 were bearing ^G591 witness ^G3142 to the resurrection ^G386 of the Lord ^G2962 Jesus ^G2424, and great ^G3173 grace ^G5485 was upon them all ^G3956. 34 For there was not a needy ^G1729 person ^G5100 among ^G1722 them, for all ^G3745 who ^G3745 were owners ^G2935 of land ^G5564 or ^G2228 houses ^G3614 would sell ^G4453 them and bring ^G5342 the [fn]proceeds ^G5092 of the sales ^G4097 35 and lay ^G5087 them at the apostles’ ^G652 feet ^G4228, and they would be distributed ^G1239 to each ^G1538 as any ^G5100 had ^G2192 need ^G5532.

36 Now Joseph ^G2501, a Levite ^G3019 of Cyprian ^G2953 birth ^G1085, who was also called ^G1941 Barnabas ^G921 by the apostles ^G652 (which ^G3739 translated ^G3177 means ^G1510 Son ^G5207 of [fn]Encouragement ^G3874), 37 and who owned ^G5225 a field ^G68, sold ^G4453 it and brought ^G5342 the money ^G5536 and laid ^G5087 it at the apostles’ ^G652 feet ^G4228.
