Esther’s Petition to the King
1 Then the king H4428 and Haman H2001 came H935 to drink H8354 wine with Esther H635 the queen H4436.
2 And the king H4428 said H559 to Esther H635 on the second H8145 day H3117 also H1571 [fn]as they drank H4960 their wine H3196 at H4960 the H4960 feast H4960, “What H4100 is [fn]your petition H7596, Queen H4436 Esther H635? It shall be given H5414 you. And what H4100 is [fn]your request H1246? Even H5704 to half H2677 of the kingdom H4438 it shall be done H6213.” 3 Then Queen H4436 Esther H635 answered H6030 and said H559, “If H518 I have found H4672 favor H2580 in your eyes H5869, O king H4428, and if H518 it seems good H2895 to the king H4428, let my life H5315 be given H5414 to me as [fn]my petition H7596, and my people H5971 as [fn]my request H1246; 4 for we have been sold H4376, I and my people H5971, to be destroyed H8045, to be killed H2026, and to be caused H6 to perish H6. Now if H432 we had only been sold H4376 as slaves H8198 H5650, men and women H8198, I would have remained H2790 silent H2790, for the [fn]adversity H6862 would not be worth H7737 the [fn]annoyance H5143 to the king H4428.” 5 Then King H4428 Ahasuerus H325 said H559—he said H559 to Esther H635 the Queen H4436, “Who H4310 is this one, and where H335 is this one, who H834 fills H4390 his heart H3820 to do H6213 thus H3651?” 6 So Esther H635 said H559, “An adversary H6862 and an enemy H340 is this H2088 evil H7451 Haman H2001!” Then Haman H2001 became terrified H1204 before H4480 H6440 the king H4428 and queen H4436.
Haman Is Hanged
7 And the king H4428 arose H6965 in his wrath H2534 from [fn]drinking H4960 wine H3196 and went into the garden H1593 of his palace H1055; but Haman H2001 stayed H5975 to seek H1245 for his life H5315 from Queen H4436 Esther H635, for he saw H7200 that calamity H7451 had been determined H3615 against H413 him by the king H4428. 8 Now the king H4428 returned H7725 from the garden H1593 of his palace H1055 into the [fn]place H1004 where they were drinking H4960 wine H3196. And Haman H2001 was falling H5307 on the couch H4296 where H834 H5921 Esther H635 was. So the king H4428 said H559, “Will he even H1571 assault H3533 the queen H4436 with me in the house H1004?” As the word H1697 went H3318 out H3318 of the king’s H4428 mouth H6310, they covered H2645 Haman’s H2001 face H6440. 9 Then Harbonah H2726, one H259 of the eunuchs H5631 who were before H6440 the king H4428, said H559, “Behold H2009 indeed H1571, the gallows H6086—which H834 Haman H2001 made H6213 for Mordecai H4782 who H834 spoke H1696 good H2896 on H5921 behalf H5921 of H5921 the king H4428—are standing H5975 at Haman’s H2001 house H1004 fifty H2572 cubits H520 high H1364!” And the king H4428 said H559, “Hang H8518 him on it.” 10 So they hanged H8518 Haman H2001 on the [fn]gallows H6086 which H834 he had set H3559 up for Mordecai H4782, and the king’s H4428 wrath H2534 subsided H7918.
