The Plague of Locusts

1 Then Yahweh ^H3068 said ^H559 to Moses ^H4872, “Come ^H935 to Pharaoh ^H6547, for I have [fn]hardened ^H3513 his heart ^H3820 and the heart ^H3820 of his servants ^H5650 with firmness ^H3513, that I may [fn]set ^H7896 these ^H428 signs ^H226 of Mine [fn]among ^H7130 them,

2 and that you may recount ^H5608 in the [fn]hearing ^H241 of your son ^H1121 and of your grandson ^H1121, how ^H854 H834 I dealt ^H5953 severely ^H5953 with the Egyptians ^H4714, and how ^H834 I [fn]put ^H7760 My signs ^H226 among them, that you may know ^H3045 that I am Yahweh ^H3068.”

3 Then Moses ^H4872 and Aaron ^H175 came ^H935 to Pharaoh ^H6547 and said ^H559 to him, “Thus ^H3541 says ^H559 Yahweh ^H3068, the God ^H430 of the Hebrews ^H5680, ‘How ^H4970 long ^H5704 H4970 will you refuse ^H3985 to humble ^H6031 yourself before ^H4480 H6440 Me? Let ^H7971 My people ^H5971 go ^H7971, that they may serve ^H5647 Me. 4 For if ^H518 you refuse ^H3986 to let ^H7971 My people ^H5971 go ^H7971, behold ^H2009, tomorrow ^H4279 I will bring ^H935 locusts ^H697 into your territory ^H1366. 5 And they shall cover ^H3680 the [fn]surface ^H5869 of the land ^H776, so that no ^H3808 one will be ^H3201 able ^H3201 to see ^H7200 the land ^H776. They will also eat ^H398 the rest ^H3499 of what ^H6413 has escaped ^H6413—what remains ^H7604 for you from the hail ^H1259—and they will eat ^H398 every ^H3605 tree ^H6086 which sprouts ^H6779 for you out ^H6779 of the field ^H7704. 6 Then your houses ^H1004 and the houses ^H1004 of all ^H3605 your servants ^H5650 and the houses ^H1004 of all ^H3605 the Egyptians ^H4714 shall be filled ^H4390, something which ^H834 neither ^H3808 your fathers ^H1 nor ^H3808 your grandfathers ^H1 have seen ^H7200, from the day ^H3117 that they [fn]came ^H1961 upon the earth ^H127 until ^H5704 this ^H2088 day ^H3117.’” And he turned ^H6437 and went ^H3318 out ^H3318 from Pharaoh ^H6547. 7 And Pharaoh’s ^H6547 servants ^H5650 said ^H559 to him, “How ^H4970 long ^H5704 H4970 will this ^H2088 man be a snare ^H4170 to us? Let ^H7971 the men ^H376 go ^H7971, that they may serve ^H5647 Yahweh ^H3068 their God ^H430. Do you not ^H2962 yet ^H2962 know ^H3045 that Egypt ^H4714 is destroyed ^H6?” 8 So Moses ^H4872 and Aaron ^H175 were brought ^H7725 back ^H7725 to Pharaoh ^H6547, and he said ^H559 to them, “Go ^H1980, serve ^H5647 Yahweh ^H3068 your God ^H430! [fn]Who ^H4310 are the ones that are going ^H1980?” 9 And Moses ^H4872 said ^H559, “We shall go ^H1980 with our young ^H5288 and our old ^H2205; with our sons ^H1121 and our daughters ^H1323, with our flocks ^H6629 and our herds ^H1241 we shall go ^H1980, for it is a feast ^H2282 of Yahweh ^H3068 for us.” 10 Then he said ^H559 to them, “Thus ^H3651 may Yahweh ^H3068 be with you, [fn]if ^H834 ever ^H834 I let ^H7971 you and your little ^H2945 ones ^H2945 go ^H7971! See ^H7200, for evil ^H7451 is [fn]on your faces ^H6440. 11 Not so ^H3651! Go ^H1980 now ^H4994, the men ^H1397 among you, and serve ^H5647 Yahweh ^H3068, for [fn]that is what you are seeking ^H1245.” So they were driven ^H1644 out ^H1644 from Pharaoh’s ^H6547 presence ^H6440.

12 Then Yahweh ^H3068 said ^H559 to Moses ^H4872, “Stretch ^H5186 out ^H5186 your hand ^H3027 over ^H5921 the land ^H776 of Egypt ^H4714 for the locusts ^H697, that they may come ^H5927 up ^H5927 on the land ^H776 of Egypt ^H4714 and eat ^H398 every ^H3605 plant ^H6212 of the land ^H776, all ^H3605 that the hail ^H1259 has left ^H7604 remaining ^H7604.” 13 So Moses ^H4872 stretched ^H5186 out ^H5186 his staff ^H4294 over ^H5921 the land ^H776 of Egypt ^H4714, and Yahweh ^H3068 directed ^H5090 an east ^H6921 wind ^H7307 on the land ^H776 all ^H3605 that day ^H3117 and all ^H3605 that night ^H3915; and when it was morning ^H1242, the east ^H6921 wind ^H7307 [fn]brought ^H5375 the locusts ^H697. 14 And the locusts ^H697 came ^H5927 up ^H5927 over ^H5921 all ^H3605 the land ^H776 of Egypt ^H4714 and rested ^H5117 on all ^H3605 the territory ^H1366 of Egypt ^H4714; they were very ^H3966 heavy ^H3515. There had never ^H3808 been ^H1961 so ^H3651 many [fn]locusts ^H697, nor ^H3808 would there be so ^H3651 many [fn]again ^H310. 15 For they covered ^H3680 the surface ^H5869 of the whole ^H3605 land ^H776, so that the land ^H776 was darkened ^H2821; and they ate ^H398 every ^H3605 plant ^H6212 of the land ^H776 and all ^H3605 the fruit ^H6529 of the trees ^H6086 that the hail ^H1259 had left ^H3498. Thus nothing ^H3808 H3605 green ^H3418 was left ^H3498 on tree ^H6086 or plant ^H6212 of the field ^H7704 through all ^H3605 the land ^H776 of Egypt ^H4714. 16 Then Pharaoh ^H6547 hurriedly ^H4116 called ^H7121 for Moses ^H4872 and Aaron ^H175, and he said ^H559, “I have sinned ^H2398 against Yahweh ^H3068 your God ^H430 and against you. 17 So now ^H6258, please ^H4994 forgive ^H5375 my sin ^H2403 only ^H389 this ^H6471 once ^H6471 and entreat ^H6279 Yahweh ^H3068 your God ^H430, that He would only ^H7534 cause ^H5493 this ^H2088 death ^H4194 to depart ^H5493 from me.” 18 And he went ^H3318 out ^H3318 from Pharaoh ^H6547 and entreated ^H6279 Yahweh ^H3068. 19 So Yahweh ^H3068 changed ^H2015 the wind to a very ^H3966 strong ^H2389 west ^H3220 wind ^H7307 which took ^H5375 up ^H5375 the locusts ^H697 and drove ^H8628 them into the [fn]Red ^H5488 Sea ^H3220; not one ^H259 locust ^H697 remained ^H7604 in all ^H3605 the territory ^H1366 of Egypt ^H4714. 20 But Yahweh ^H3068 [fn]hardened ^H2388 Pharaoh’s ^H6547 heart ^H3820 with strength ^H2388, and he did not let ^H7971 the sons ^H1121 of Israel ^H3478 go ^H7971.

The Plague of Darkness

21 Then Yahweh ^H3068 said ^H559 to Moses ^H4872, “Stretch ^H5186 out ^H5186 your hand ^H3027 toward ^H5921 the sky ^H8064, that there may be darkness ^H2822 over ^H5921 the land ^H776 of Egypt ^H4714, even a darkness ^H2822 which may be felt ^H4959.”

22 So Moses ^H4872 stretched ^H5186 out ^H5186 his hand ^H3027 toward ^H5921 the sky ^H8064, and there was thick ^H653 darkness ^H2822 in all ^H3605 the land ^H776 of Egypt ^H4714 for three ^H7969 days ^H3117. 23 They did not see ^H7200 one ^H376 another ^H251, nor ^H3808 did anyone ^H376 rise ^H6965 from his place ^H8478 for three ^H7969 days ^H3117, but all ^H3605 the sons ^H1121 of Israel ^H3478 had ^H1961 light ^H216 in their places of habitation ^H4186. 24 Then Pharaoh ^H6547 called ^H7121 to Moses ^H4872 and said ^H559, “Go ^H1980, serve ^H5647 Yahweh ^H3068; only ^H7534 let your flocks ^H6629 and your herds ^H1241 be detained ^H3322. Even ^H1571 your little ^H2945 ones ^H2945 may go ^H1980 with you.” 25 But Moses ^H4872 said ^H559, “You must also ^H1571 [fn]let ^H5414 us have ^H5414 in our hand ^H3027 sacrifices ^H2077 and burnt ^H5930 offerings ^H5930, that we may [fn]sacrifice ^H6213 them to Yahweh ^H3068 our God ^H430. 26 Therefore, our livestock ^H4735 too ^H1571 shall go ^H1980 with us; not a hoof ^H6541 shall remain ^H7604 behind ^H7604, for we shall take ^H3947 some ^H4480 of them to serve ^H5647 Yahweh ^H3068 our God ^H430. And until ^H5704 we come ^H935 there ^H8033, we ourselves ^H587 do not know ^H3045 with what ^H4100 we shall serve ^H5647 Yahweh ^H3068.” 27 But Yahweh ^H3068 [fn]hardened ^H2388 Pharaoh’s ^H6547 heart ^H3820 with strength ^H2388, and he was ^H14 not willing ^H14 to let ^H7971 them go ^H7971. 28 Then Pharaoh ^H6547 said ^H559 to him, “Get ^H1980 away ^H1980 from me! [fn]Beware ^H8104, do not see ^H7200 my face ^H6440 again ^H3254, for in the day ^H3117 you see ^H7200 my face ^H6440 you shall die ^H4191!” 29 And Moses ^H4872 said ^H559, “As you have spoken ^H3651; I shall never ^H3808 see ^H7200 your face ^H6440 again ^H3254!”
