The Song of Moses and Israel
1 Then H227 Moses H4872 and the sons H1121 of Israel H3478 sang H7891 this H2088 song H7892 to Yahweh H3068 [fn]and said H559,
“[fn]I will sing H7891 to Yahweh H3068, for He [fn]is highly H1342 exalted H1342;
The horse H5483 and its rider H7392 He has hurled H7411 into the sea H3220.
2 “[fn]Yah is my strength H5797 and song H2172,
And He has become H1961 my salvation H3444;
This H2088 is my God H410, and I will praise H5115 Him;
My father’s H1 God H430, and I will extol H7311 Him.
3 “Yahweh H3068 is a warrior H4421;
Yahweh H3068 is His name H8034.
4 “Pharaoh’s H6547 chariots H4818 and his army H2428 He has cast H3384 into the sea H3220;
And the choicest H4005 of his officers H7991 are sunk H2883 in the [fn]Red H5488 Sea H3220.
5 “The deeps H8415 cover H3680 them;
They went H3381 down H3381 into the depths H4688 like H3644 a stone H68.
6 “Your right H3225 hand H3225, O Yahweh H3068, is majestic H142 in power H3581,
Your right H3225 hand H3225, O Yahweh H3068, shatters H7492 the enemy H340.
7 “And in the greatness H7230 of Your [fn]exaltation H1347 You pull H2040 down H2040 those who rise H6965 up H6965 against You;
You send H7971 forth Your burning H2740 anger H2740, and it devours H398 them as chaff H7179.
8 “And at the blast H7307 of Your nostrils H639 the waters H4325 were piled H6192 up,
The flowing H5140 waters H4325 stood H5324 up H5324 like H3644 a heap H5067;
The deeps H8415 were congealed H7087 in the heart H3820 of the sea H3220.
9 “The enemy H340 said H559, ‘I will pursue H7291, I will overtake H5381, I will divide H2505 the spoil H7998;
My [fn]desire H5315 shall be fulfilled H4390 against them;
I will draw H7324 out H7324 my sword H2719, my hand H3027 will dispossess H3423 them.’
10 “You blew H5398 with Your wind H7307, the sea H3220 covered H3680 them;
They sank H6749 like lead H5777 in the [fn]mighty H117 waters H4325.
11 “Who H4310 is like H3644 You among the gods H410, O Yahweh H3068?
Who H4310 is like H3644 You, majestic H142 in holiness H6944,
Fearsome H3372 in praises H8416, working H6213 wonders H6382?
12 “You stretched H5186 out H5186 Your right H3225 hand H3225,
The earth H776 swallowed H1104 them.
13 “In Your lovingkindness H2617 You have guided H5148 the people H5971 whom H2098 You have redeemed H1350;
In Your strength H5797 You have led H5095 them to Your holy H6944 habitation H5116.
14 “The peoples H5971 have heard H8085, they tremble H7264;
Anguish H2427 has seized H270 the inhabitants H3427 of Philistia H6429.
15 “Then H227 the chiefs H441 of Edom H123 were dismayed H926;
The leaders H352 of Moab H4124, trembling H7461 seizes H270 them;
All H3605 the inhabitants H3427 of Canaan H3667 have melted H4127 away H4127.
16 “Terror H367 and dread H6343 fall H5307 upon them;
By the greatness H1419 of Your arm H2220 they are H1826 still H1826 as stone H68;
Until H5704 Your people H5971 pass H5674 over H5674, O Yahweh H3068,
Until H5704 the people H5971 pass H5674 over H5674 whom H2098 You have purchased H7069.
17 “You will bring H935 them and plant H5193 them in the mountain H2022 of Your inheritance H5159,
The place H4349, O Yahweh H3068, which You have made H6466 for You to inhabit H3427,
The sanctuary H4720, O Lord H136, which Your hands H3027 have established H3559.
18 “Yahweh H3068 shall reign H4427 forever H5769 and ever H5703.”
19 For the horses H5483 of Pharaoh H6547 with his chariots H7393 and his horsemen H6571 went H935 into the sea H3220, and Yahweh H3068 brought H7725 back H7725 the waters H4325 of the sea H3220 on them, but the sons H1121 of Israel H3478 walked H1980 on dry H3004 land H3004 through the midst H8432 of the sea H3220.
20 And Miriam H4813 the prophetess H5031, Aaron’s H175 sister H269, took H3947 the tambourine H8596 in her hand H3027, and all H3605 the women H802 went H3318 out H3318 after H310 her with tambourines H8596 and with [fn]dancing H4246.
21 And Miriam H4813 answered H6030 them,
“Sing H7891 to Yahweh H3068, for He [fn]is highly H1342 exalted H1342;
The horse H5483 and his rider H7392 He has hurled H7411 into the sea H3220.”
Yahweh Sweetens the Water
22 Then Moses H4872 [fn]had H5265 Israel H3478 set H5265 out H5265 from the [fn]Red H5488 Sea H3220, and they went H3318 out into the wilderness H4057 of Shur H7793; and they went H1980 three H7969 days H3117 in the wilderness H4057 and found H4672 no H3808 water H4325.
23 And they came H935 to Marah H4785, but they could H3201 not drink H8354 the waters H4325 [fn]of Marah H4785, for they were [fn]bitter H4751; therefore H5921 H3651 it was named H7121 H8034 [fn]Marah H4785. 24 So the people H5971 grumbled H3885 at Moses H4872, saying H559, “What H4100 shall we drink H8354?” 25 Then he cried H6817 out H6817 to Yahweh H3068, and Yahweh H3068 showed H3384 him a tree H6086; and he threw H7993 it into the waters H4325, and the waters H4325 became H4985 sweet H4985.
There H8033 He set H7760 for them a statute H2706 and a judgment H4941, and there H8033 He tested H5254 them. 26 And He said H559, “If H518 you will earnestly H8085 listen H8085 to the voice H6963 of Yahweh H3068 your God H430, and do H6213 what is right H3477 in His sight H5869, and give H238 ear H238 to His commandments H4687, and keep H8104 all H3605 His statutes H2706, I will put H7760 none H3605 H3808 of the diseases H4245 on you which H834 I have put H7760 on the Egyptians H4714; for I, Yahweh H3068, am your healer H7495.”
27 Then they came H935 to Elim H362 where H8033 there were twelve H8147 H6240 springs H5869 of water H4325 and seventy H7657 date H8558 palms H8558, and they camped H2583 there H8033 beside H5921 the waters H4325.
