Prophecy Against the Shepherds of Israel

1 Then the word ^H1697 of Yahweh ^H3068 came ^H1961 to me saying ^H559,

2 “Son ^H1121 of man ^H120, prophesy ^H5012 against ^H5921 the shepherds ^H7462 of Israel ^H3478. Prophesy ^H5012 and say ^H559 to [fn]those shepherds ^H7462, ‘Thus ^H3541 says ^H559 Lord ^H136 Yahweh ^H3068, “Woe ^H1945, shepherds ^H7462 of Israel ^H3478 who ^H834 have been ^H1961 [fn]shepherding ^H7462 themselves! Should not the shepherds ^H7462 shepherd ^H7462 the flock ^H6629? 3 You eat ^H398 the fat ^H2459 and clothe ^H3847 yourselves ^H3847 with the wool ^H6785; you sacrifice ^H2076 the fat ^H1277 sheep without ^H3808 shepherding ^H7462 the flock ^H6629. 4 Those who are sickly ^H2470 you have not strengthened ^H2388, and the [fn]diseased ^H2470 you have not healed ^H7495, and the broken ^H7665 you have not bound ^H2280 up ^H2280, and the scattered ^H5080 you have not brought ^H7725 back ^H7725, nor ^H3808 have you searched ^H1245 for the lost ^H6; but with strength ^H2394 and with severity ^H6531 you have dominated ^H7287 them. 5 They were scattered ^H6327 for lack ^H1097 of a shepherd ^H7462, and they became ^H1961 food ^H402 for every ^H3605 beast ^H2416 of the field ^H7704 and were scattered ^H6327. 6 My flock ^H6629 wandered ^H7686 through all ^H3605 the mountains ^H2022 and on every ^H3605 high ^H7311 hill ^H1389; My flock ^H6629 was scattered ^H6327 over ^H5921 all ^H3605 the surface ^H6440 of the earth ^H776, and there ^H369 was ^H369 no ^H369 one ^H369 to seek ^H1875 or search ^H1245 for them.”’”

7 Therefore ^H3651, you shepherds ^H7462, hear ^H8085 the word ^H1697 of Yahweh ^H3068: 8 “As I live ^H2416,” declares ^H5002 Lord ^H136 Yahweh ^H3068, “surely ^H518 H3808 because ^H3282 My flock ^H6629 has become ^H1961 plunder ^H957, My flock ^H6629 has even become ^H1961 food ^H402 for all ^H3605 the beasts ^H2416 of the field ^H7704 for lack ^H369 of a shepherd ^H7462, and My shepherds ^H7462 did not seek ^H1875 for My flock ^H6629, but rather the shepherds ^H7462 shepherded ^H7462 themselves and did not shepherd ^H7462 My flock ^H6629; 9 therefore ^H3651, you shepherds ^H7462, hear ^H8085 the word ^H1697 of Yahweh ^H3068: 10 ‘Thus ^H3541 says ^H559 Lord ^H136 Yahweh ^H3068, “Behold ^H2009, I am against ^H413 the shepherds ^H7462, and I will seek ^H1875 My flock ^H6629 from their hand ^H3027 and make them cease ^H7673 from shepherding ^H7462 the flock ^H6629. So the shepherds ^H7462 will not shepherd ^H7462 themselves anymore ^H5750, but I will deliver ^H5337 My flock ^H6629 from their mouth ^H6310 so that they will not be food ^H402 for them.”’”

Yahweh Will Shepherd His Flock

11 For thus ^H3541 says ^H559 Lord ^H136 Yahweh ^H3068, “Behold ^H2009, I Myself ^H589 will seek ^H1875 My sheep ^H6629 and care ^H1239 for them.

12 As a shepherd ^H7462 [fn]cares ^H1243 for his herd ^H5739 in the day ^H3117 when he is among ^H8432 his [fn]sheep ^H6629 which are spread ^H6567 out, so ^H3651 I will [fn]care ^H1239 for My [fn]sheep ^H6629 and will deliver ^H5337 them from all ^H3605 the places ^H4725 to which ^H834 they were scattered ^H6566 on a cloudy ^H6051 and gloomy ^H6205 day ^H3117. 13 I will bring ^H3318 them out ^H3318 from the peoples ^H5971 and gather ^H6908 them from the countries ^H776 and bring ^H935 them to their own land ^H127; and I will shepherd ^H7462 them on the mountains ^H2022 of Israel ^H3478, by the streams ^H650, and in all ^H3605 the inhabited ^H4186 places ^H4186 of the land ^H776. 14 I will shepherd ^H7462 them in a good ^H2896 pasture ^H4829, and their grazing ^H5116 ground ^H5116 will be on the mountain ^H2022 heights ^H4791 of Israel ^H3478. There ^H8033 they will lie ^H7257 down ^H7257 on good ^H2896 grazing ^H5116 ground ^H5116 and be shepherded ^H7462 in [fn]rich ^H8082 pasture ^H4829 on the mountains ^H2022 of Israel ^H3478. 15 I will shepherd ^H7462 My flock ^H6629, and I will make ^H7257 them lie ^H7257 down ^H7257,” declares ^H5002 Lord ^H136 Yahweh ^H3068. 16 “I will search ^H1245 for the lost ^H6, bring ^H7725 back ^H7725 the scattered ^H5080, bind ^H2280 up ^H2280 the broken ^H7665, and strengthen ^H2388 the sick ^H2470; but the fat ^H8082 and the strong ^H2389 I will destroy ^H8045. I will shepherd ^H7462 them with judgment ^H4941.

17 “As for you, My flock ^H6629, thus ^H3541 says ^H559 Lord ^H136 Yahweh ^H3068, ‘Behold ^H2009, I will judge ^H8199 between ^H996 one [fn]sheep ^H7716 and another ^H7716, between the rams ^H352 and the male ^H6260 goats ^H6260. 18 Is it too ^H4480 slight ^H4592 a thing ^H4592 for you that you should be shepherded ^H7462 in the good ^H2896 pasture ^H4829, that you must tread ^H7429 down ^H7429 with your feet ^H7272 the rest ^H3499 of your pastures ^H4829? Or that you should drink ^H8354 of the clear ^H4950 waters ^H4325, that you must [fn]foul ^H7511 the rest ^H3498 with your feet ^H7272? 19 As for My flock ^H6629, they must be shepherded ^H7462 on what ^H4823 you tread ^H4823 down ^H4823 with your feet ^H7272 and drink ^H8354 what ^H4833 you [fn]foul ^H4833 with your feet ^H7272!’”

20 Therefore ^H3651, thus ^H3541 says ^H559 Lord ^H136 Yahweh ^H3068 to them, “Behold ^H2009, I, even I, will judge ^H8199 between ^H996 the fat ^H1277 sheep ^H7716 and the lean ^H7330 sheep ^H7716. 21 Because ^H3282 you push ^H1920 with side ^H6654 and with shoulder ^H3802, and thrust ^H5055 at all ^H3605 the sickly ^H2470 with your horns ^H7161 until ^H5704 H834 you have scattered ^H6327 them [fn]abroad ^H2351, 22 therefore, I will save ^H3467 My flock ^H6629, and they will no ^H3808 longer ^H5750 be plunder ^H957; and I will judge ^H8199 between ^H996 one sheep ^H7716 and another ^H7716.

23 “Then I will establish ^H6965 over ^H5921 them one ^H259 shepherd ^H7462, My servant ^H5650 David ^H1732, and he will shepherd ^H7462 them; he will shepherd ^H7462 them himself ^H1931 and be their shepherd ^H7462. 24 And I, Yahweh ^H3068, will be their God ^H430, and My servant ^H5650 David ^H1732 will be prince ^H5387 among ^H8432 them; I, Yahweh ^H3068, have spoken ^H1696.

Yahweh’s Covenant of Peace

25 “I will cut ^H3772 a covenant ^H1285 of peace ^H7965 with them and cause harmful ^H7451 beasts ^H2416 to cease ^H7673 from the land ^H776 so that they may live ^H3427 securely ^H983 in the wilderness ^H4057 and sleep ^H3462 in the woods ^H3293.

26 I will make ^H5414 them and the places ^H5439 all around ^H5439 My hill ^H1389 a blessing ^H1293. And I will cause showers ^H1653 to come ^H3381 down ^H3381 in their season ^H6256; they will be showers ^H1653 of blessing ^H1293. 27 Also the tree ^H6086 of the field ^H7704 will yield ^H5414 its fruit ^H6529, and the earth ^H776 will yield ^H5414 its produce ^H2981, and they will be secure ^H983 on their land ^H127. Then they will know ^H3045 that I am Yahweh ^H3068, when I have broken ^H7665 the bars ^H4133 of their yoke ^H5923 and have delivered ^H5337 them from the hand ^H3027 of those who enslaved ^H5647 them. 28 They will no ^H3808 longer ^H5750 be plunder ^H957 to the nations ^H1471, and the beasts ^H2416 of the earth ^H776 will not devour ^H398 them; but they will live ^H3427 securely ^H983, and no ^H369 one ^H369 will make ^H2729 them tremble ^H2729. 29 I will establish ^H6965 for them a [fn]renowned ^H8034 planting ^H4302 place ^H4302, and they will not again ^H5750 be [fn]victims ^H622 of famine ^H7458 in the land ^H776, and they will not bear ^H5375 the dishonor ^H3639 of the nations ^H1471 anymore ^H5750. 30 Then they will know ^H3045 that I, Yahweh ^H3068 their God ^H430, am with them, and that they, the house ^H1004 of Israel ^H3478, are My people ^H5971,” declares ^H5002 Lord ^H136 Yahweh ^H3068. 31 “As for you, My sheep ^H6629, the sheep ^H6629 of My pasture ^H4830, you are men ^H120, and I am your God ^H430,” declares ^H5002 Lord ^H136 Yahweh ^H3068.
