Yahweh Destroys Sodom and Gomorrah

1 Then the two ^H8147 angels ^H4397 came ^H935 to Sodom ^H5467 in the evening ^H6153 as Lot ^H3876 was sitting ^H3427 in the gate ^H8179 of Sodom ^H5467. Lot ^H3876 saw ^H7200 them and rose ^H6965 to meet ^H7122 them and [fn]bowed ^H2331 down ^H2331 with his [fn]face ^H639 to the ground ^H776.

12 Then the two men ^H376 said ^H559 to Lot ^H3876, “Whom ^H4310 else ^H5750 have you here ^H6311? A son-in-law ^H2860, and your sons ^H1121, and your daughters ^H1323, and everyone ^H3605 H834 you have in the city ^H5892, bring ^H3318 them out ^H3318 of the place ^H4725; 13 for we are about to destroy ^H7843 this ^H2088 place ^H4725 because ^H3588 their outcry ^H6818 has become ^H1431 great ^H1431 before ^H6440 Yahweh ^H3068, so Yahweh ^H3068 has sent ^H7971 us to destroy ^H7843 it.” 14 And Lot ^H3876 went ^H3318 out ^H3318 and spoke ^H1696 to his sons-in-law ^H2860, who [fn]were to marry ^H3947 his daughters ^H1323, and said ^H559, “Get up, get ^H3318 out ^H3318 of this ^H2088 place ^H4725, for Yahweh ^H3068 will destroy ^H7843 the city ^H5892.” But he appeared ^H1961 H5869 to his sons-in-law ^H2860 [fn]to be jesting ^H6711.

15 Now at ^H3644 the [fn]breaking ^H5927 of dawn ^H7837, the angels ^H4397 urged ^H213 Lot ^H3876, saying ^H559, “Get up, take ^H3947 your wife ^H802 and your two ^H8147 daughters ^H1323 who are ^H4672 here ^H4672, lest ^H6435 you be swept ^H5595 away ^H5595 in the [fn]punishment ^H5771 of the city ^H5892.” 16 But he hesitated ^H4102. So the men ^H376 seized ^H2388 his hand ^H3027 and the hand ^H3027 of his wife ^H802 and the [fn]hands ^H3027 of his two ^H8147 daughters ^H1323, for the compassion ^H2551 of Yahweh ^H3068 was upon him; and they brought ^H3318 him out ^H3318 and put ^H5117 him outside ^H4480 H2351 the city ^H5892. 17 Now it happened ^H1961, as they brought ^H3318 them outside ^H2351, [fn]one said ^H559, “Escape ^H4422 for your life ^H5315! Do not look ^H5027 behind ^H310 you, and do not stay ^H5975 [fn]anywhere ^H3605 in the valley ^H3603; escape ^H4422 to the [fn]mountains ^H2022, lest ^H6435 you be swept ^H5595 away ^H5595.” 18 But Lot ^H3876 said ^H559 to them, “Oh ^H4994 no ^H408, my lords ^H136! 19 Now ^H4994 behold ^H2009, your servant ^H5650 has found ^H4672 favor ^H2580 in your sight ^H5869, and you have magnified ^H1431 your lovingkindness ^H2617, which ^H834 you have shown ^H6213 me by preserving ^H2421 my life ^H5315; but I cannot ^H3201 H3808 escape ^H4422 to the [fn]mountains ^H2022, lest ^H6435 calamity ^H7451 overtake ^H1692 me and I die ^H4191; 20 now ^H4994 behold ^H2009, this ^H2088 town ^H5892 is near ^H7138 enough to flee ^H5127 to, and it is small ^H4705. Please ^H4994, let me escape ^H4422 there ^H8033 (is it not small ^H4705?) [fn]that my life ^H5315 may be preserved ^H2421.” 21 And he said ^H559 to him, “Behold ^H2009, I grant ^H5375 you this ^H2088 [fn]request ^H1697 also ^H1571, that I will not overthrow ^H2015 the city ^H5892 of which ^H834 you have spoken ^H1696. 22 Hurry ^H4116, escape ^H4422 there ^H8033, for I cannot ^H3201 H3808 do ^H6213 anything ^H1697 until ^H5704 you arrive ^H935 there ^H8033.” Therefore ^H5921 H3651 the name ^H8034 of the city ^H5892 was called ^H7121 [fn]Zoar ^H6820.

23 The sun ^H8121 had risen ^H3318 over ^H5921 the earth ^H776 when Lot ^H3876 came ^H935 to Zoar ^H6820. 24 And Yahweh ^H3068 rained ^H4305 on Sodom ^H5467 and Gomorrah ^H6017 brimstone ^H1614 and fire ^H784 from Yahweh ^H3068 out of heaven ^H8064, 25 and He overthrew ^H2015 those ^H411 cities ^H5892, and all ^H3605 the [fn]valley ^H3603, and all ^H3605 the inhabitants ^H3427 of the cities ^H5892, and what ^H6780 grew ^H6780 on the ground ^H127. 26 Then his wife ^H802, from behind ^H310 him, looked ^H5027 back, and she became ^H1961 a pillar ^H5333 of salt ^H4417.

27 Now Abraham ^H85 arose ^H7925 early ^H7925 in the morning ^H1242 and went to the place ^H4725 where ^H834 H8033 he had stood ^H5975 before ^H6440 Yahweh ^H3068; 28 and he looked ^H8259 down ^H8259 toward ^H5921 H6440 Sodom ^H5467 and Gomorrah ^H6017, and toward ^H5921 H6440 all ^H3605 the land ^H776 of the [fn]valley ^H3603, and he saw ^H7200, and behold ^H2009, the smoke ^H7008 of the land ^H776 went ^H5927 up ^H5927 like the smoke ^H7008 of a [fn]furnace ^H3536.

29 Thus it happened ^H1961, when God ^H430 destroyed ^H7843 the cities ^H5892 of the [fn]valley ^H3603, that God ^H430 remembered ^H2142 Abraham ^H85 and sent ^H7971 Lot ^H3876 out ^H7971 of the midst ^H8432 of the overthrow ^H2018, when He overthrew ^H2015 the cities ^H5892 in which ^H834 Lot ^H3876 lived ^H3427.

Lot and His Daughters

30 And Lot ^H3876 went ^H5927 up ^H5927 from Zoar ^H6820 and [fn]stayed ^H3427 in the [fn]mountains ^H2022, and his two ^H8147 daughters ^H1323 with him; for he was ^H3372 afraid ^H3372 to [fn]stay ^H3427 in Zoar ^H6820; and he [fn]stayed ^H3427 in a cave ^H4631, he and his two ^H8147 daughters ^H1323.

31 Then the firstborn ^H1067 said ^H559 to the younger ^H6810, “Our father ^H1 is ^H2204 old ^H2204, and there ^H369 is ^H369 not ^H369 a man ^H376 [fn]on earth ^H776 to come ^H935 in ^H935 to us after the manner ^H1870 of the earth ^H776. 32 Come ^H1980, let us make ^H8248 our father ^H1 drink ^H8248 wine ^H3196, and let us lie ^H7901 with him that we may preserve ^H2421 our seed ^H2233 through ^H4480 our father ^H1.” 33 So they made ^H8248 their father ^H1 drink ^H8248 wine ^H3196 that night ^H3915, and the firstborn ^H1067 went ^H935 in ^H935 and lay ^H7901 with her father ^H1; and he did not know ^H3045 when she lay ^H7901 down ^H7901 or when she arose ^H6965. 34 Now it happened on the following ^H4283 day ^H4283, that the firstborn ^H1067 said ^H559 to the younger ^H6810, “Behold ^H2005, I lay ^H7901 last ^H570 night ^H570 with my father ^H1; let us make ^H8248 him drink ^H8248 wine ^H3196 tonight ^H3915 also ^H1571; and you go ^H935 in ^H935 and lie ^H7901 with him, that we may preserve ^H2421 our seed ^H2233 through ^H4480 our father ^H1.” 35 So they made ^H8248 their father ^H1 drink ^H8248 wine ^H3196 that night ^H3915 also ^H1571, and the younger ^H6810 arose ^H6965 and lay ^H7901 with him; and he did not know ^H3045 when she lay ^H7901 down ^H7901 or when she arose ^H6965. 36 Thus both ^H8147 the daughters ^H1323 of Lot ^H3876 conceived ^H2029 by their father ^H1. 37 And the firstborn ^H1067 bore ^H3205 a son ^H1121 and called ^H7121 his name ^H8034 Moab ^H4124; he is the father ^H1 of the Moabites ^H4124 to this day ^H3117. 38 As for the younger ^H6810, she also ^H1571 bore ^H3205 a son ^H1121 and called ^H7121 his name ^H8034 Ben-ammi ^H1151; he is the father ^H1 of the [fn]sons ^H1121 of Ammon ^H5983 to this day ^H3117.
