The Righteous Will Live by His Faith

1 I will stand ^H5975 on my guard ^H4931 post ^H4931

And station ^H3320 myself on the fortification ^H4692;

And I will keep ^H6822 watch ^H6822 to see ^H7200 what ^H4100 He will speak ^H1696 to me

And how ^H4100 I may respond ^H7725 [fn]when ^H5921 I am reproved ^H8433.

2 Then Yahweh ^H3068 answered ^H6030 me and said ^H559,

“Write ^H3789 down the vision ^H2377

And write ^H874 it on tablets ^H3871 distinctly ^H874,

That [fn]the one who [fn]reads ^H7121 it may run ^H7323.

3 “For the vision ^H2377 is yet ^H5750 for the appointed ^H4150 time ^H4150;

It pants ^H6315 toward its end ^H7093, and it will not [fn]lie ^H3576.

Though ^H518 it tarries ^H4102, wait ^H2442 for it;

For it will certainly ^H935 come ^H935; it will not delay ^H309.

4 “Behold ^H2009, as for the proud ^H6075 one,

His soul ^H5315 is ^H3474 not right ^H3474 within him;

But the righteous ^H6662 will live ^H2421 by his [fn]faith ^H530.

5 “And indeed ^H637, wine ^H3196 betrays ^H898 the haughty ^H3093 man ^H1397

So that he does not stay ^H5115 at home ^H5115.

He enlarges ^H7337 his appetite ^H5315 like Sheol ^H7585,

And he is like death ^H4194, never ^H3808 satisfied ^H7646.

He also gathers ^H622 to himself all ^H3605 nations ^H1471

And assembles ^H6908 to himself all ^H3605 peoples ^H5971.

6 “Will not all ^H3605 of these ^H428 lift ^H5375 up ^H5375 a taunt-song ^H4912 against ^H5921 him,

Even satire ^H4426 and riddles ^H2420 against him

And say ^H559, ‘Woe ^H1945 to him who increases ^H7235 what is not his—

For how ^H4970 long ^H5704 H4970—

And makes ^H3513 himself [fn]rich ^H3513 with loans ^H5671?’

7 “Will not [fn]your creditors ^H5391 rise ^H6965 up ^H6965 suddenly ^H6621,

And those who make ^H2111 you tremble ^H2111 awaken ^H3364?

Indeed, you will become ^H1961 spoil ^H4933 for them.

8 “Because ^H3588 you have taken ^H7997 many ^H7227 nations ^H1471 as spoil ^H7997,

All ^H3605 that is left ^H3499 of the peoples ^H5971 will take ^H7997 you as spoil ^H7997—

Because ^H4480 of human ^H120 bloodshed ^H1818 and violence ^H2555 [fn]done to the land ^H776,

To the town ^H7151 and all ^H3605 its inhabitants ^H3427.

9 “Woe ^H1945 to him who is greedy ^H1214 for evil ^H7451 gain ^H1215 for his house ^H1004

To put ^H7760 his nest ^H7064 on high ^H4791,

To be delivered ^H5337 from the hand ^H3709 of evil ^H7451!

10 “You have counseled ^H3289 a shameful ^H1322 thing ^H1322 for your house ^H1004

By cutting ^H7096 off ^H7096 many ^H7227 peoples ^H5971;

So you are sinning ^H2398 against your own soul ^H5315.

11 “Surely ^H3588 the stone ^H68 will cry ^H2199 out ^H2199 from the wall ^H7023,

And the rafter ^H3714 will answer ^H6030 it from the [fn]framework ^H6086.

12 “Woe ^H1945 to him who builds ^H1129 a city ^H5892 with bloodshed ^H1818

And founds ^H3559 a town ^H7151 with injustice ^H5766!

13 “Is it not, behold ^H2009, from Yahweh ^H3068 of hosts ^H6635

That peoples ^H5971 toil ^H3021 for fire ^H784,

And nations ^H3816 grow ^H3286 weary ^H3286 for nothing ^H7385?

14 “For the earth ^H776 will be filled ^H4390

With the knowledge ^H3045 of the glory ^H3519 of Yahweh ^H3068,

As the waters ^H4325 cover ^H3680 the sea ^H3220.

15 “Woe ^H1945 to you who make ^H8248 [fn]your neighbors ^H7453 drink ^H8248,

Who mix ^H5596 in your venom ^H2534 even ^H637 to make ^H7937 them drunk ^H7937

So ^H4616 as to look ^H5027 on their nakedness ^H4589!

16 “You will be filled ^H7646 with disgrace ^H7036 rather ^H4480 than ^H4480 glory ^H3519.

Now ^H1571 you yourself ^H859 drink ^H8354 and [fn]expose ^H6188 your own nakedness ^H6188.

The cup ^H3563 in Yahweh’s ^H3068 right ^H3225 hand ^H3225 will come ^H5437 around ^H5437 to you,

And utter ^H7022 disgrace ^H7022 will come upon your glory ^H3519.

17 “For the violence ^H2555 [fn]done to Lebanon ^H3844 will cover ^H3680 you,

And the devastation ^H7701 of its beasts ^H929 [fn]by which you terrified ^H2865 them,

Because ^H4480 of human ^H120 bloodshed ^H1818 and violence ^H2555 [fn]done to the land ^H776,

To the town ^H7151 and all ^H3605 its inhabitants ^H3427.

18 “What ^H4100 profit ^H3276 is the graven ^H6459 image ^H6459 when ^H3588 its maker ^H3335 has engraved ^H6458 it,

Or a molten ^H4541 image ^H4541, a teacher ^H3384 of [fn]lies ^H8267?

For its maker ^H3335 trusts ^H982 in his own making ^H3336

When he fashions ^H6213 speechless ^H483 idols ^H457.

19 “Woe ^H1945 to him who says ^H559 to a piece of wood ^H6086, ‘Awake ^H6974!’

To a mute ^H1748 stone ^H68, ‘Arise ^H5782!’

And that is your teacher ^H3384?

Behold ^H2009, it is overlaid ^H8610 with gold ^H2091 and silver ^H3701,

And there ^H369 is ^H369 no ^H369 breath ^H7307 at all ^H3605 inside ^H7130 it.

20 “But Yahweh ^H3068 is in His holy ^H6944 temple ^H1964.

[fn]Let all ^H3605 the earth ^H776 be silent ^H2013 before ^H4480 H6440 Him.”
