The Commission to Rebuild the Temple

1 In the second ^H8147 year ^H8141 of Darius ^H1867 the king ^H4428, on the first ^H259 day ^H3117 of the sixth ^H8345 month ^H2320, the word ^H1697 of [fn]Yahweh ^H3068 came ^H1961 by the hand ^H3027 of Haggai ^H2292 the prophet ^H5030 to Zerubbabel ^H2216 the son ^H1121 of Shealtiel ^H7597, governor ^H6346 of Judah ^H3063, and to Joshua ^H3091 the son ^H1121 of Jehozadak ^H3087, the high ^H1419 priest ^H3548, saying ^H559,

2 “Thus ^H3541 says ^H559 Yahweh ^H3068 of [fn]hosts ^H6635, ‘This ^H2088 people ^H5971 says ^H559, “The time ^H6256 has not come ^H935, even the time ^H6256 for the house ^H1004 of Yahweh ^H3068 to be rebuilt ^H1129.”’” 3 Then the word ^H1697 of Yahweh ^H3068 came ^H1961 by the hand ^H3027 of Haggai ^H2292 the prophet ^H5030, saying ^H559, 4 “Is it time ^H6256 for you yourselves ^H859 to live ^H3427 in your paneled ^H5603 houses ^H1004 while this ^H2088 house ^H1004 lies waste ^H2720?” 5 So now ^H6258, thus ^H3541 says ^H559 Yahweh ^H3068 of hosts ^H6635, “Set ^H7760 your ^H5921 heart ^H3824 to consider your ways ^H1870! 6 You have sown ^H2232 much ^H7235, but bring ^H935 in ^H935 little ^H4592; you eat ^H398, but there is not enough to be satisfied ^H7654; you drink ^H8354, but there is [fn]not enough to become ^H7937 drunk ^H7937; you put ^H3847 on ^H3847 clothing ^H3847, but no ^H369 one ^H369 is warm ^H2552 enough; and he who earns ^H7936, earns ^H7936 wages ^H7939 to put into a bag ^H6872 with ^H5344 holes ^H5344.”

7 Thus ^H3541 says ^H559 Yahweh ^H3068 of hosts ^H6635, “Set ^H7760 your ^H5921 heart ^H3824 to consider your ways ^H1870! 8 Go ^H5927 up ^H5927 to the [fn]mountains ^H2022 and bring ^H935 wood ^H6086 and rebuild ^H1129 the house ^H1004 of God, that I may be pleased ^H7521 with it and be glorified ^H3513,” says ^H559 Yahweh ^H3068. 9 “You look ^H6437 for much ^H7235, but behold ^H2009, it comes to little ^H4592; and you bring ^H935 it home ^H1004, and I blow ^H5301 it away. Why ^H3282 H4100?” declares ^H5002 Yahweh ^H3068 of hosts ^H6635, “Because ^H3282 of My house ^H1004 which ^H834 lies waste ^H2720, while each ^H376 of you runs ^H7323 to his own house ^H1004. 10 Therefore ^H5921 H3651, because ^H5921 of you the sky ^H8064 has restrained ^H3607 [fn]its dew ^H2919 and the earth ^H776 has restrained ^H3607 its produce ^H2981. 11 And I called ^H7121 for a [fn]drought ^H2721 on the land ^H776, on the mountains ^H2022, on the grain ^H1715, on the new ^H8492 wine ^H8492, on the oil ^H3323, on what ^H834 the ground ^H127 brings ^H3318 forth ^H3318, on men ^H120, on cattle ^H929, and on all ^H3605 the labor ^H3018 of [fn]your hands ^H3709.”

12 Then Zerubbabel ^H2216 the son ^H1121 of Shealtiel ^H7597, and Joshua ^H3091 the son ^H1121 of Jehozadak ^H3087, the high ^H1419 priest ^H3548, with all ^H3605 the remnant ^H7611 of the people ^H5971, listened ^H8085 to the voice ^H6963 of Yahweh ^H3068 their God ^H430 and the words ^H1697 of Haggai ^H2292 the prophet ^H5030, as Yahweh ^H3068 their God ^H430 had sent ^H7971 him. And the people ^H5971 feared ^H3372 Yahweh ^H3068. 13 Then Haggai ^H2292, the messenger ^H4397 of Yahweh ^H3068, spoke ^H559 by the commissioned ^H4400 message ^H4400 of Yahweh ^H3068 to the people ^H5971 saying ^H559, “‘I am with you,’ declares ^H5002 Yahweh ^H3068.” 14 So Yahweh ^H3068 stirred ^H5782 up ^H5782 the spirit ^H7307 of Zerubbabel ^H2216 the son ^H1121 of Shealtiel ^H7597, governor ^H6346 of Judah ^H3063, and the spirit ^H7307 of Joshua ^H3091 the son ^H1121 of Jehozadak ^H3087, the high ^H1419 priest ^H3548, and the spirit ^H7307 of all ^H3605 the remnant ^H7611 of the people ^H5971; and they came ^H935 and did ^H6213 work ^H4399 on the house ^H1004 of Yahweh ^H3068 of hosts ^H6635, their God ^H430, 15 on the twenty-fourth ^H6242 H702 day ^H3117 of the sixth ^H8345 month ^H2320 in the second ^H8147 year ^H8141 of Darius ^H1867 the king ^H4428.
