Alliance with Egypt Condemned

1 “Woe ^H1945 to the rebellious ^H5637 children ^H1121,” declares ^H5002 Yahweh ^H3068,

“Who execute ^H6213 counsel ^H6098, but not Mine ^H4480,

And [fn]make ^H5258 an alliance ^H4541, but not of My Spirit ^H7307,

In order ^H4616 to add ^H5595 sin ^H2403 to sin ^H2403,

2 Who go ^H1980 down ^H3381 to Egypt ^H4714—

But did not ^H3808 ask ^H7592 [fn]Me—

To find ^H5756 strength ^H5756 in the strong ^H4581 defense ^H4581 of Pharaoh ^H6547

And to take ^H2620 refuge ^H2620 in the shadow ^H6738 of Egypt ^H4714!

3 “Therefore the strong ^H4581 defense ^H4581 of Pharaoh ^H6547 will be your shame ^H1322

And the refuge ^H2622 in the shadow ^H6738 of Egypt ^H4714, your dishonor ^H3639.

4 “For their princes ^H8269 are at Zoan ^H6814

And their messengers ^H4397 reach ^H5060 Hanes ^H2609.

5 “Everyone ^H3605 will be ^H954 ashamed ^H954 because ^H5921 of a people ^H5971 who cannot ^H3808 profit ^H3276 them,

And have put ^H982 your trust ^H982 in oppression ^H6233 and deviousness ^H3868 and have relied ^H8172 on them,

14 Whose breaking ^H7665 is like the breaking ^H7667 of a potter’s ^H3335 jar ^H5035,

Or to scoop ^H2834 water ^H4325 from a cistern ^H1360.”

15 For thus ^H3541 Lord ^H136 Yahweh ^H3068, the Holy ^H6918 One ^H6918 of Israel ^H3478, has said ^H559,

“In [fn]repentance ^H7729 and rest ^H5183 you will be saved ^H3467,

In quietness ^H8252 and trust ^H985 is your might ^H1369.”

But you were ^H14 not willing ^H14,

16 And you said ^H559, “No ^H3808, for we will flee ^H5127 on horses ^H5483,”

“And we will ride ^H7392 on swift ^H7031 horses,”

Yahweh Is Gracious and Just

18 Therefore ^H3651 Yahweh ^H3068 waits ^H7311 with longing to be ^H2603 gracious ^H2603 to you,

For Yahweh ^H3068 is a God ^H430 of justice ^H4941;

30 And Yahweh ^H3068 will cause [fn]His splendid ^H1935 voice ^H6963 to be heard ^H8085,

And the [fn]descending ^H5183 of His arm ^H2220 to be seen ^H7200 in raging ^H2197 anger ^H639,

And in the flame ^H3851 of a consuming ^H398 fire ^H784

In cloudburst ^H5311, downpour ^H2230, and hailstones.

31 For at the voice ^H6963 of Yahweh ^H3068 Assyria ^H804 will be dismayed ^H2865,

When He strikes ^H5221 with the rod ^H7626.

32 And every ^H3605 [fn]blow ^H4569 of the [fn]appointed ^H4145 staff ^H4294,
