Yahweh’s Righteousness Is Forever

1 “Listen ^H8085 to Me, you who pursue ^H7291 righteousness ^H6664,

Who seek ^H1245 Yahweh ^H3068:

Look ^H5027 to the rock ^H6697 from which you were hewn ^H2672

And to the [fn]quarry ^H953 H4718 from which you were dug ^H5365.

2 “Look ^H5027 to Abraham ^H85 your father ^H1

And to Sarah ^H8283 who brought ^H2342 you forth ^H2342 through ^H2342 labor ^H2342 pains ^H2342;

When ^H3588 he was but one ^H259 I called ^H7121 him,

Then I blessed ^H1288 him and multiplied ^H7235 him.”

3 Indeed ^H3588, Yahweh ^H3068 will comfort ^H5162 Zion ^H6726;

He will comfort ^H5162 all ^H3605 her waste ^H2723 places ^H2723.

And her wilderness ^H4057 He will make ^H7760 like Eden ^H5731,

And her desert ^H6160 like the garden ^H1588 of Yahweh ^H3068;

Joy ^H8342 and gladness ^H8057 will be found ^H4672 in her,

Thanksgiving ^H8426 and sound ^H6963 of a melody ^H2172.

4 “Pay ^H7181 attention ^H7181 to Me, O My people ^H5971,

And give ^H238 ear ^H238 to Me, O My [fn]nation ^H3816;

For a law ^H8451 will go ^H3318 forth ^H3318 from Me,

And I will [fn]set ^H7280 My justice ^H4941 for a light ^H216 of the peoples ^H5971.

5 “My righteousness ^H6664 is near ^H7138, My salvation ^H3468 has gone ^H3318 forth ^H3318,

And My arms ^H2220 will judge ^H8199 the peoples ^H5971;

The coastlands ^H339 will hope ^H6960 in Me,

And for My arm ^H2220 they will wait ^H3176 expectantly ^H3176.

6 “Lift ^H5375 up ^H5375 your eyes ^H5869 to the sky ^H8064,

Then look ^H5027 to the earth ^H776 beneath ^H4480 H8478;

For the sky ^H8064 will vanish ^H4414 like smoke ^H6227,

And the earth ^H776 will wear ^H1086 out ^H1086 like a garment ^H899,

And its inhabitants ^H3427 will die ^H4191 [fn]in like ^H3644 manner ^H3651;

But My salvation ^H3444 will be forever ^H5769,

And My righteousness ^H6666 will not be dismayed ^H2865.

7 “Listen ^H8085 to Me, you who know ^H3045 righteousness ^H6664,

A people ^H5971 in whose heart ^H3820 is My law ^H8451;

Do not fear ^H3372 the reproach ^H2781 of man ^H582,

Nor ^H408 be dismayed ^H2865 at their revilings ^H1421.

8 “For the moth ^H6211 will eat ^H398 them like a garment ^H899,

And the grub ^H5580 will eat ^H398 them like wool ^H6785.

But My righteousness ^H6666 will be forever ^H5769,

And My salvation ^H3444 to all ^H1755 generations ^H1755.”

9 Awake ^H5782, awake ^H5782, put ^H3847 on ^H3847 strength ^H5797, O arm ^H2220 of Yahweh ^H3068;

Awake ^H5782 as in the days ^H3117 of old ^H6924, the generations ^H1755 of long ^H5769 ago ^H5769.

Was it not You who chopped ^H2672 Rahab ^H7293 in ^H2672 pieces ^H2672,

Who pierced ^H2490 the dragon ^H8577?

10 Was it not You who dried ^H2717 up ^H2717 the sea ^H3220,

The waters ^H4325 of the great ^H7227 deep ^H8415,

Who made ^H7760 the depths ^H4615 of the sea ^H3220 a pathway ^H1870

For the redeemed ^H1350 to cross ^H5674 over ^H5674?

11 So the ransomed ^H6299 of Yahweh ^H3068 will return ^H7725

And come ^H935 with joyful ^H7440 shouting ^H7440 to Zion ^H6726,

And everlasting ^H5769 gladness ^H8057 will be on their heads ^H7218.

They will obtain ^H5381 joy ^H8342 and gladness ^H8057,

12 “I, even I, am He who comforts ^H5162 you.

Who ^H4310 are you that you are ^H3372 afraid ^H3372 of man ^H582 who dies ^H4191

And of the son ^H1121 of man ^H120 who is made ^H5414 like grass ^H2682,

13 That you have forgotten ^H7911 Yahweh ^H3068 your Maker ^H6213,

Who stretched ^H5186 out ^H5186 the heavens ^H8064

And laid ^H3245 the foundations ^H3245 of the earth ^H776,

That you tremble ^H6342 in ^H6342 dread ^H6342 continually ^H8548 all ^H3605 day ^H3117 long because ^H4480 H6440 of the wrath ^H2534 of the one who brings distress ^H6693,

As he makes ^H3559 ready ^H3559 to bring ^H7843 ruin ^H7843?

But where ^H346 is the wrath ^H2534 of the one who brings distress ^H6693?

14 The one in chains ^H6808 will soon ^H4116 be set ^H6605 free ^H6605 and will not die ^H4191 in the pit ^H7845, nor ^H3808 will his bread ^H3899 be lacking ^H2637.

15 For I am Yahweh ^H3068 your God ^H430, who stirs ^H7280 up the sea ^H3220, and its waves ^H1530 roar ^H1993—Yahweh ^H3068 of hosts ^H6635 is His name ^H8034. 16 I have put ^H7760 My words ^H1697 in your mouth ^H6310 and have covered ^H3680 you with the shadow ^H6738 of My hand ^H3027, to [fn]establish ^H5193 the heavens ^H8064, to found ^H3245 the earth ^H776, and to say ^H559 to Zion ^H6726, ‘You are My people ^H5971.’”

17 Awaken ^H5782 yourself ^H5782! Awaken ^H5782 yourself ^H5782! Arise ^H6965, O Jerusalem ^H3389,

You who ^H834 have drunk ^H8354 from the hand ^H3027 of Yahweh ^H3068 the cup ^H3563 of His wrath ^H2534;

The [fn]chalice ^H6907 H3563 of reeling ^H8653 you have [fn]drained ^H8354 to ^H4680 the ^H4680 dregs ^H4680.

18 There ^H369 is ^H369 none ^H369 to guide ^H5095 her among ^H4480 all ^H3605 the sons ^H1121 she has borne ^H3205,

Nor ^H369 is ^H369 there ^H369 one ^H369 to take ^H2388 hold ^H2388 of her by the hand ^H3027 among ^H4480 all ^H3605 the sons ^H1121 she has reared ^H1431.

19 These ^H2007 two ^H8147 things ^H8147 have befallen ^H7122 you;

Who ^H4310 will console ^H5110 you?

The devastation ^H7701 and destruction ^H7667, famine ^H7458 and sword ^H2719;

How ^H4310 shall I comfort ^H5162 you?

20 Your sons ^H1121 have fainted ^H5968;

They lie ^H7901 helpless at the head ^H7218 of every ^H3605 street ^H2351,

Like an antelope ^H8377 in a net ^H4364,

Full ^H4392 of the wrath ^H2534 of Yahweh ^H3068,

The rebuke ^H1606 of your God ^H430.

21 Therefore ^H3651, now ^H4994, listen ^H8085 to this ^H2088, you afflicted ^H6041,

Who are drunk ^H7937, but not with wine ^H3196:

22 Thus ^H3541 says ^H559 your Lord ^H136, Yahweh ^H3068, even your God ^H430

Who contends ^H7378 for His people ^H5971,

“Behold ^H2009, I have taken ^H3947 out of your hand ^H3027 the cup ^H3563 of reeling ^H8653,

The [fn]chalice ^H6907 H3563 of My wrath ^H2534;

You will never ^H3808 drink ^H8354 it again ^H3254.

23 “I will set ^H7760 it into the hand ^H3027 of those who cause you grief ^H3013,

Who ^H834 have said ^H559 to [fn]you, ‘Lie ^H7812 down ^H7812 that we may walk ^H5674 over ^H5674 you.’

You have even set ^H7760 your back ^H1460 down like the ground ^H776

And like the street ^H2351 for those who walk ^H5674 over ^H5674 it.”
