The Coming Assyrian Invasion

1 Then Yahweh ^H3068 said ^H559 to me, “Take ^H3947 for yourself a large ^H1419 tablet ^H1549 and write ^H3789 on it [fn]in ordinary ^H582 letters ^H2747: Concerning [fn]Maher-shalal-hash-baz ^H4122.

2 And [fn]I will take ^H5749 to Myself faithful ^H539 witnesses ^H5707 for ^H5749 testimony ^H5749, Uriah ^H223 the priest ^H3548 and Zechariah ^H2148 the son ^H1121 of Jeberechiah ^H3000.” 3 Then I drew ^H7126 near ^H7126 to the prophetess ^H5031, and she conceived ^H2029 and bore ^H3205 a son ^H1121. Then Yahweh ^H3068 said ^H559 to me, “Call ^H7121 his name ^H8034 [fn]Maher-shalal-hash-baz ^H4122, 4 for before ^H2962 the boy ^H5288 knows ^H3045 how to cry ^H7121 out ^H7121 ‘My father ^H1’ or ‘My mother ^H517,’ the wealth ^H2428 of Damascus ^H1834 and the spoil ^H7998 of Samaria ^H8111 will be carried ^H5375 away before ^H6440 the king ^H4428 of Assyria ^H804.”

5 Again ^H3254 Yahweh ^H3068 spoke ^H1696 to me further ^H5750, saying ^H559,

6 “Inasmuch ^H3282 H3588 as these ^H2088 people ^H5971 have rejected ^H3988 the gently ^H328 flowing ^H1980 waters ^H4325 of Shiloah ^H7975

And rejoice ^H4885 in Rezin ^H7526 and the son ^H1121 of Remaliah ^H7425;

7 Now therefore ^H3651, behold ^H2009, the Lord ^H136 is about to bring ^H5927 on them the mighty ^H6099 and abundant ^H7227 waters ^H4325 of the [fn]River ^H5104—

The king ^H4428 of Assyria ^H804 and all ^H3605 his glory ^H3519;

And it will rise ^H5927 up ^H5927 over ^H5921 all ^H3605 its channels ^H650 and go ^H1980 over ^H5921 all ^H3605 its banks ^H1415.

8 “Then it will sweep ^H2498 on ^H2498 into Judah ^H3063; it will overflow ^H7857 and pass ^H5674 through ^H5674;

It will reach ^H5060 even ^H5704 to the neck ^H6677;

And the spread ^H4298 of its wings ^H3671 will [fn]fill ^H4393 the breadth ^H7341 of [fn]Your land ^H776, O Immanuel ^H6005.

Yahweh, a Sanctuary and a Stumbling Stone

9 “Be broken ^H7489, O peoples ^H5971, and be [fn]shattered ^H2865;

And give ^H238 ear ^H238, all ^H3605 remote ^H4801 places ^H4801 of the earth ^H776.

Gird ^H247 yourselves, yet be [fn]shattered ^H2865;

Gird ^H247 yourselves, yet be [fn]shattered ^H2865.

10 “Devise ^H5779 counsel ^H6098, but it will be thwarted ^H6565;

Speak ^H1696 a word ^H1697, but it will not stand ^H6965,

For [fn]God ^H410 is with us.”

11 For thus ^H3541 Yahweh ^H3068 spoke ^H559 to me with a strong ^H2393 hand ^H3027 and disciplined ^H3256 me not to walk ^H1980 in the way ^H1870 of this ^H2088 people ^H5971, saying ^H559,

12 “You are not to say ^H559, ‘It is a conspiracy ^H7195!’

In regard to all ^H3605 that this ^H2088 people ^H5971 call ^H559 a conspiracy ^H7195;

And you are not to fear ^H3372 [fn]what ^H4172 they fear ^H4172, and you shall not tremble ^H6206.

13 “It is Yahweh ^H3068 of hosts ^H6635 whom you should regard ^H6942 as ^H6942 holy ^H6942.

And He shall be your fear ^H4172,

And He shall be ^H6206 your cause ^H6206 of ^H6206 trembling ^H6206.

14 “Then He shall become ^H1961 a sanctuary ^H4720;

But to both ^H8147 the houses ^H1004 of Israel ^H3478, a stone ^H68 to strike ^H5063 and a rock ^H6697 to stumble ^H4383 over,

And a snare ^H6341 and a trap ^H4170 for the inhabitants ^H3427 of Jerusalem ^H3389.

15 “And many ^H7227 will stumble ^H3782 over them;

Then they will fall ^H5307 and be broken ^H7665;

They will even be snared ^H3369 and caught ^H3920.”

16 Bind ^H6887 up ^H6887 the testimony ^H8584, seal ^H2856 the [fn]law ^H8451 among my disciples ^H3928.

17 And I will wait ^H2442 for Yahweh ^H3068 who is hiding ^H5641 His face ^H6440 from the house ^H1004 of Jacob ^H3290; and I will hope ^H6960 for Him. 18 Behold ^H2009, I and the children ^H3206 whom ^H834 Yahweh ^H3068 has given ^H5414 me are for signs ^H226 and wonders ^H4159 in Israel ^H3478 from Yahweh ^H3068 of hosts ^H6635, who dwells ^H7931 on Mount ^H2022 Zion ^H6726.

Darkness to Light Through the Prince of Peace

19 Now when ^H3588 they say ^H559 to you, “Inquire ^H1875 of the mediums ^H178 and the spiritists ^H3049 who whisper ^H6850 and mutter ^H1897,” should not a people ^H5971 inquire ^H1875 of their God ^H430? Should they inquire of the dead ^H4191 on behalf ^H1157 of the living ^H2416?

20 To the [fn]law ^H8451 and to the testimony ^H8584! If ^H518 they do not speak ^H559 according to this ^H2088 word ^H1697, it is because ^H834 they have ^H369 no ^H369 dawn ^H7837. 21 And they will pass ^H5674 through [fn]the land hard-pressed ^H7185 and hungry ^H7457, and it will be ^H6437 that when ^H3588 they are hungry ^H7456, they will be ^H7107 angry ^H7107 and curse ^H7043 [fn]their king ^H4428 and their God ^H430 as they face ^H6437 upward ^H4605. 22 Then they will look ^H5027 to the earth ^H776, and behold ^H2009, distress ^H6869 and darkness ^H2825, the gloom ^H4588 of anguish ^H6695; and they will be banished ^H5080 into thick ^H653 darkness ^H653.
