Yahweh Will Not Listen to Their Cry

1 That which ^H834 came ^H1961 as the word ^H1697 of Yahweh ^H3068 to Jeremiah ^H3414 in regard ^H5921 H1697 to the drought ^H1226:

2 “Judah ^H3063 mourns ^H56,

And her gates ^H8179 languish ^H535;

They sit ^H6937 on the ground ^H776 in mourning ^H6937,

And the outcry ^H6682 of Jerusalem ^H3389 has gone ^H5927 up ^H5927.

3 “Their mighty ^H117 ones have sent ^H7971 their [fn]underlings ^H6810 for water ^H4325;

They have come ^H935 to the trenches ^H1356 and found ^H4672 no ^H3808 water ^H4325.

They have returned ^H7725 with their vessels ^H3627 empty ^H7387;

They have been put ^H954 to ^H954 shame ^H954 and dishonored ^H3637,

And they cover ^H2645 their heads ^H7218.

4 “Because ^H5668 the ground ^H127 is ^H2865 [fn]dismayed ^H2865,

For there has been ^H1961 no ^H3808 rain ^H1653 on the land ^H776,

The farmers ^H406 have been put ^H954 to ^H954 shame ^H954;

They have covered ^H2645 their heads ^H7218.

5 “For even ^H1571 the doe ^H355 in the field ^H7704 has given ^H3205 birth ^H3205 only to forsake ^H5800 her young

Because ^H3588 there is no ^H3808 grass ^H1877.

6 “The wild ^H6501 donkeys ^H6501 stand ^H5975 on the bare ^H8205 heights ^H8205;

They pant ^H7602 for air ^H7307 like jackals ^H8565;

Their eyes ^H5869 fail ^H3615

For there ^H369 is ^H369 no ^H369 vegetation ^H6212.

7 “Although ^H518 our iniquities ^H5771 answer ^H6030 against us,

O Yahweh ^H3068, act ^H6213 for Your name’s ^H8034 sake ^H4616!

Truly ^H3588 our acts ^H4878 of faithlessness ^H4878 have been ^H7231 many ^H7231;

We have sinned ^H2398 against You.

8 “O Hope ^H4723 of Israel ^H3478,

Its Savior ^H3467 in time ^H6256 of distress ^H6869,

Why ^H4100 are You like a sojourner ^H1616 in the land ^H776

Or like a traveler ^H732 who has pitched ^H5186 his tent to lodge ^H3885 for ^H3885 the ^H3885 night ^H3885?

9 “Why ^H4100 are You like a man ^H376 confused ^H1724,

Like a mighty ^H1368 man ^H1368 who cannot ^H3201 H3808 save ^H3467?

Yet You are in our midst ^H7130, O Yahweh ^H3068,

And we are called ^H7121 by Your name ^H8034;

Do not leave ^H5117 us!”

10 Thus ^H3541 says ^H559 Yahweh ^H3068 to this ^H2088 people ^H5971, “Even so ^H3651 they have loved ^H157 to wander ^H5128; they have not kept ^H2820 their feet ^H7272 in check ^H2820. Therefore Yahweh ^H3068 does not accept ^H7521 them; now ^H6258 He will remember ^H2142 their iniquity ^H5771 and punish ^H6485 their sins ^H2403.”

11 So Yahweh ^H3068 said ^H559 to me, “Do not pray ^H6419 for the good ^H2896 of this ^H2088 people ^H5971. 12 When ^H3588 they fast ^H6684, I am not going to listen ^H8085 to their cry ^H7440; and when ^H3588 they offer ^H5927 burnt ^H5930 offering ^H5930 and grain offering ^H4503, I am not going to accept ^H7521 them. Rather ^H3588 I am going to make ^H3615 an ^H3615 end ^H3615 of ^H3615 them by the sword ^H2719, famine ^H7458, and pestilence ^H1698.”

Lying Prophets

13 But, “Ah ^H162, Lord ^H136 Yahweh ^H3068!” I said ^H559, “Behold ^H2009, the prophets ^H5030 are saying ^H559 to them, ‘You will not see ^H7200 the sword ^H2719 nor ^H3808 will you have ^H1961 famine ^H7458, but ^H3588 I will give ^H5414 you true ^H571 peace ^H7965 in this ^H2088 place ^H4725.’”

14 Then Yahweh ^H3068 said ^H559 to me, “The prophets ^H5030 are prophesying ^H5012 lies ^H8267 in My name ^H8034. I have neither ^H3808 sent ^H7971 them nor ^H3808 commanded ^H6680 them nor ^H3808 spoken ^H1696 to them; they are prophesying ^H5012 to you a vision ^H2377 of lies ^H8267, divination ^H7081, futility ^H457, and the deception ^H8649 of their own hearts ^H3820. 15 Therefore ^H3651 thus ^H3541 says ^H559 Yahweh ^H3068 concerning ^H5921 the prophets ^H5030 who are prophesying ^H5012 in My name ^H8034, although it was not I who sent ^H7971 them—yet they keep saying ^H559, ‘There will be no ^H3808 sword ^H2719 or famine ^H7458 in this ^H2088 land ^H776’—by that sword ^H2719 and famine ^H7458 those ^H1992 prophets ^H5030 shall [fn]meet ^H8552 their end ^H8552! 16 The people ^H5971 also to whom ^H834 they are prophesying ^H5012 will be thrown ^H7993 out ^H7993 into the streets ^H2351 of Jerusalem ^H3389 because ^H4480 H6440 of the famine ^H7458 and the sword ^H2719; and there ^H369 will ^H369 be ^H369 no ^H369 one ^H369 to bury ^H6912 them—neither them, nor their wives ^H802, nor ^H369 their sons ^H1121, nor ^H369 their daughters ^H1323—for I will pour ^H8210 out ^H8210 their own evil ^H7451 on them.

17 “And you will say ^H559 this ^H2088 word ^H1697 to them,

‘Let my eyes ^H5869 flow ^H3381 down ^H3381 with tears ^H1832 night ^H3915 and day ^H3119,

And let them not cease ^H1820,

For the virgin ^H1330 daughter ^H1323 of my people ^H5971 has been shattered ^H7665 with a mighty ^H1419 shattering ^H4347,

With a sorely ^H3966 sick ^H2470 wound ^H4347.

18 ‘If ^H518 I go ^H3318 out ^H3318 to the field ^H7704,

Behold ^H2009, those [fn]slain ^H2491 with the sword ^H2719!

Or if ^H518 I enter ^H935 the city ^H5892,

Behold ^H2009, diseases ^H8463 of famine ^H7458!

For both ^H1571 prophet ^H5030 and priest ^H3548

Have gone around ^H5503 as merchants ^H5503 in the land ^H776 that they do not know ^H3045.’”

19 Have You completely ^H3988 rejected ^H3988 Judah ^H3063?

Or ^H518 [fn]have You loathed ^H1602 Zion ^H6726?

Why ^H4069 have You stricken ^H5221 us so that there ^H369 is ^H369 no ^H369 healing ^H4832 for us?

We hoped ^H6960 for peace ^H7965, but there ^H369 was ^H369 no ^H369 good ^H2896;

And for a time ^H6256 of healing ^H4832, but behold ^H2009, terror ^H1205!

20 We know ^H3045 our wickedness ^H7562, O Yahweh ^H3068,

The iniquity ^H5771 of our fathers ^H1, for we have sinned ^H2398 against You.

21 Do not [fn]despise ^H5006 us, for Your own name’s ^H8034 sake ^H4616;

Do not disgrace ^H5034 the throne ^H3678 of Your glory ^H3519;

Remember ^H2142 and do not break ^H6565 Your covenant ^H1285 with us.

22 Are ^H3426 there ^H3426 any ^H3426 among the [fn]idols ^H1892 of the nations ^H1471 who give ^H1652 rain ^H1652?

Or ^H518 can the heavens ^H8064 give ^H5414 showers ^H7241?

Is it not You, O Yahweh ^H3068 our God ^H430?

Therefore we [fn]hope ^H6960 in You,

For You are the one who has done ^H6213 all ^H3605 these ^H428 things ^H428.
