The Deceitful Heart

1 The sin ^H2403 of Judah ^H3063 is written ^H3789 down ^H3789 with an iron ^H1270 stylus ^H5842;

With a diamond ^H8068 point ^H6856 it is engraved ^H2790 upon the tablet ^H3871 of their heart ^H3820

And on the horns ^H7161 of [fn]their altars ^H4196,

2 As they remember ^H2142 their children ^H1121,

So they remember their altars ^H4196 and their [fn]Asherim ^H842

By green ^H7488 trees ^H6086 on the high ^H1364 hills ^H1389.

3 O mountain ^H2022 of Mine in the countryside ^H7704,

I will give ^H5414 over your wealth ^H2428 and all ^H3605 your treasures ^H214 for plunder ^H957,

Your high ^H1116 places ^H1116 for sin ^H2403 throughout ^H3605 your borders ^H1366.

4 And you will, even of yourself, let ^H8058 go ^H8058 of your inheritance ^H5159

That I gave ^H5414 you;

And I will make you serve ^H5647 your enemies ^H340

In the land ^H776 which ^H834 you do not know ^H3045,

For you have kindled ^H6919 a fire ^H784 in My anger ^H639

Which will burn ^H3344 forever ^H5704 H5769.

5 Thus ^H3541 says ^H559 Yahweh ^H3068,

“Cursed ^H779 is the man ^H1397 who ^H834 trusts ^H982 in mankind ^H120

And makes ^H7760 flesh ^H1320 his [fn]strength ^H2220,

And whose heart ^H3820 turns ^H5493 away ^H5493 from Yahweh ^H3068.

6 “And he will be like a juniper ^H6176 in the desert ^H6160

And will not see ^H7200 when ^H3588 prosperity ^H2896 comes ^H935,

But will dwell ^H7931 in ^H7931 stony ^H2788 wastes ^H2788 in the wilderness ^H4057,

A land ^H776 of salt ^H4420 [fn]which is not ^H3808 inhabited ^H3427.

7 “Blessed ^H1288 is the man ^H1397 who ^H834 trusts ^H982 in Yahweh ^H3068

And whose trust ^H4009 is Yahweh ^H3068.

8 “And he will be like a tree ^H6086 planted ^H8362 by the water ^H4325,

That sends ^H7971 forth its roots ^H8328 by a stream ^H3105

And will not fear ^H3372 when ^H3588 the heat ^H2527 comes ^H935;

But its leaves ^H5929 will be green ^H7488,

And it will not be ^H1672 anxious ^H1672 in a year ^H8141 of drought ^H1226

Nor ^H3808 refrain ^H4185 from yielding ^H6213 fruit ^H6529.

9 “The heart ^H3820 is more ^H4480 deceitful ^H6121 than ^H4480 all ^H3605 else

And is [fn]desperately ^H605 sick ^H605;

Who ^H4310 can know ^H3045 it?

10 “I, Yahweh ^H3068, search ^H2713 the heart ^H3820;

I test ^H974 the [fn]inmost ^H3629 being ^H3629,

Even to give ^H5414 to each ^H376 man ^H376 according to his ways ^H1870,

According to the fruit ^H6529 of his deeds ^H4611.

11 “As a partridge ^H7124 that hatches ^H1716 eggs ^H1716 which it has not laid ^H3205,

So is he who makes ^H6213 a fortune ^H6239, but unjustly ^H4941 H3808;

In the midst ^H2677 of his days ^H3117 it will forsake ^H5800 him,

And in [fn]the end ^H319 he will be a wicked ^H5036 fool ^H5036.”

12 A glorious ^H3519 throne ^H3678 on high ^H4791 from the beginning ^H7223

Is the place ^H4725 of our sanctuary ^H4720.

13 O Yahweh ^H3068, the hope ^H4723 of Israel ^H3478,

All ^H3605 who forsake ^H5800 You will be put ^H954 to ^H954 shame ^H954.

Those who turn ^H5493 [fn]away ^H5493 on earth ^H776 will be written ^H3789 down ^H3789

Because ^H3588 they have forsaken ^H5800 the fountain ^H4726 of living ^H2416 water ^H4325, even Yahweh ^H3068.

14 Heal ^H7495 me, O Yahweh ^H3068, and I will be healed ^H7495;

Save ^H3467 me and I will be saved ^H3467,

For You are my praise ^H8416.

15 Behold ^H2009, they keep saying ^H559 to me,

“Where ^H346 is the word ^H1697 of Yahweh ^H3068?

Let it come ^H935 now ^H4994!”

16 But as for me, I have not hurried ^H213 away from being a shepherd ^H7462 after ^H310 You,

Nor ^H3808 have I longed ^H183 for the [fn]sickening ^H605 day ^H3117;

You Yourself ^H859 know ^H3045 that the utterance ^H4161 of my lips ^H8193

Was in Your presence ^H6440.

17 Do not be a terror ^H4288 to me;

You are my refuge ^H4268 in the day ^H3117 of calamity ^H7451.

18 Let those who pursue ^H7291 me be put ^H954 to ^H954 shame ^H954, but as for me, let me not be put ^H954 to ^H954 shame ^H954;

Let them be dismayed ^H2865, but let me not be dismayed ^H2865.

Bring ^H935 on them a day ^H3117 of calamity ^H7451,

And [fn]crush ^H7665 them with twofold ^H4932 [fn]crushing ^H7670!

Keep the Sabbath Day Holy

19 Thus ^H3541 Yahweh ^H3068 said ^H559 to me, “Go ^H1980 and stand ^H5975 in the [fn]public ^H1121 H5971 gate ^H8179, through which ^H834 the kings ^H4428 of Judah ^H3063 come ^H935 in ^H935 and go ^H3318 out ^H3318, as well as in all ^H3605 the gates ^H8179 of Jerusalem ^H3389,

20 and say ^H559 to them, ‘Listen ^H8085 to the word ^H1697 of Yahweh ^H3068, kings ^H4428 of Judah ^H3063 and all ^H3605 Judah ^H3063 and all ^H3605 inhabitants ^H3427 of Jerusalem ^H3389 who come ^H935 in ^H935 through these ^H428 gates ^H8179: 21 Thus ^H3541 says ^H559 Yahweh ^H3068, “Take ^H8104 care ^H8104 of yourselves ^H5315, and do not carry ^H5375 any load ^H4853 on the sabbath ^H7676 day ^H3117 or bring ^H935 anything in ^H935 through the gates ^H8179 of Jerusalem ^H3389. 22 You shall not bring ^H3318 a load ^H4853 out ^H3318 of your houses ^H1004 on the sabbath ^H7676 day ^H3117 nor ^H3808 do ^H6213 any ^H3605 work ^H4399, but keep ^H6942 the sabbath ^H7676 day ^H3117 holy ^H6942, as I commanded ^H6680 your fathers ^H1. 23 Yet they did not listen ^H8085 or incline ^H5186 their ears ^H241, but stiffened ^H7185 their necks ^H6203 in order not to listen ^H8085 or receive ^H3947 discipline ^H4148.

24 “But it will be ^H1961, if ^H518 you listen ^H8085 carefully ^H8085 to Me,” declares ^H5002 Yahweh ^H3068, “to bring ^H935 no ^H1115 load ^H4853 in ^H935 through the gates ^H8179 of this ^H2088 city ^H5892 on the sabbath ^H7676 day ^H3117, but to keep ^H6942 the sabbath ^H7676 day ^H3117 holy ^H6942 by doing ^H6213 no ^H1115 H3605 work ^H4399 on it, 25 then there will come ^H935 in ^H935 through the gates ^H8179 of this ^H2088 city ^H5892 kings ^H4428 and princes ^H8269 [fn]sitting ^H3427 on the throne ^H3678 of David ^H1732, riding ^H7392 in chariots ^H7393 and on horses ^H5483, they and their princes ^H8269, the men ^H376 of Judah ^H3063 and the inhabitants ^H3427 of Jerusalem ^H3389, and this ^H2088 city ^H5892 will be inhabited ^H3427 forever ^H5769. 26 And they will come ^H935 in ^H935 from the cities ^H5892 of Judah ^H3063 and from all around ^H5439 Jerusalem ^H3389, from the land ^H776 of Benjamin ^H1144, from the [fn]Shephelah ^H8219, from the hill ^H2022 country ^H2022, and from the Negev ^H5045, bringing ^H935 burnt ^H5930 offerings ^H5930, sacrifices ^H2077, grain offerings ^H4503, and frankincense ^H3828, and bringing ^H935 sacrifices ^H8426 of ^H8426 thanksgiving ^H8426 to the house ^H1004 of Yahweh ^H3068. 27 But if ^H518 you do not listen ^H8085 to Me to keep ^H6942 the sabbath ^H7676 day ^H3117 holy ^H6942 by not carrying ^H5375 a load ^H4853 and coming ^H935 in ^H935 through the gates ^H8179 of Jerusalem ^H3389 on the sabbath ^H7676 day ^H3117, then I will kindle ^H3341 a fire ^H784 in its gates ^H8179, and it will devour ^H398 the palaces ^H759 of Jerusalem ^H3389 and not be quenched ^H3518.”’”
