The Righteous Branch

1 “Woe ^H1945 to the shepherds ^H7462 who are [fn]destroying ^H6 and scattering ^H6327 the sheep ^H6629 of My pasture ^H4830!” declares ^H5002 Yahweh ^H3068.

2 Therefore ^H3651 thus ^H3541 says ^H559 Yahweh ^H3068, the God ^H430 of Israel ^H3478, concerning ^H5921 the shepherds ^H7462 who are shepherding ^H7462 My people ^H5971: “You have scattered ^H6327 My flock ^H6629 and banished ^H5080 them and have not attended ^H6485 to them; behold ^H2009, I am about to attend ^H6485 to you for the evil ^H7455 of your deeds ^H4611,” declares ^H5002 Yahweh ^H3068. 3 “Then I Myself ^H589 will gather ^H6908 the remnant ^H7611 of My flock ^H6629 out of all ^H3605 the land ^H776 where ^H834 H8033 I have banished ^H5080 them and cause ^H7725 them to return ^H7725 to their pasture ^H5116, and they will be ^H6509 fruitful ^H6509 and multiply ^H7235. 4 I will also raise ^H6965 up ^H6965 shepherds ^H7462 over ^H5921 them, and they will [fn]shepherd ^H7462 them; and they will not be ^H3372 afraid ^H3372 any ^H5750 longer ^H5750, nor ^H3808 be terrified ^H2865, nor ^H3808 will any be ^H6485 left ^H6485 unattended ^H6485,” declares ^H5002 Yahweh ^H3068.

5 “Behold ^H2009, the days ^H3117 are coming ^H935,” declares ^H5002 Yahweh ^H3068,

“When I will raise ^H6965 up ^H6965 for David ^H1732 a righteous ^H6662 [fn]Branch ^H6780;

And He will reign ^H4427 as king ^H4428 and [fn]prosper ^H7919

And do ^H6213 justice ^H4941 and righteousness ^H6666 in the land ^H776.

6 “In His days ^H3117 Judah ^H3063 will be saved ^H3467,

And Israel ^H3478 will dwell ^H7931 securely ^H983;

And this ^H2088 is His name ^H8034 by which ^H834 He will be called ^H7121,

‘Yahweh ^H3068 our righteousness ^H6664.’

7 “Therefore ^H3651 behold ^H2009, the days ^H3117 are coming ^H935,” declares ^H5002 Yahweh ^H3068, “when they will no ^H3808 longer ^H5750 say ^H559, ‘As Yahweh ^H3068 lives ^H2416, who ^H834 brought ^H5927 up ^H5927 the sons ^H1121 of Israel ^H3478 from the land ^H776 of Egypt ^H4714,’ 8 but, ‘As Yahweh ^H3068 lives ^H2416, who ^H834 brought ^H5927 up ^H5927 and brought ^H935 back the seed ^H2233 of the household ^H1004 of Israel ^H3478 from the north ^H6828 land ^H776 and from all ^H3605 the lands ^H776 where ^H834 H8033 I had banished ^H5080 them.’ Then they will live ^H3427 on their own soil ^H127.”

False Prophets Condemned

9 As for the prophets ^H5030:

My heart ^H3820 is broken ^H7665 within ^H7130 me;

All ^H3605 my bones ^H6106 tremble ^H7363;

I have become ^H1961 like a drunken ^H7910 man ^H376,

Even like a man ^H1397 overcome ^H5674 with wine ^H3196,

Because ^H4480 H6440 of Yahweh ^H3068

And because ^H4480 H6440 of His holy ^H6944 words ^H1697.

10 For the land ^H776 is full ^H4390 of adulterers ^H5003;

For the land ^H776 mourns ^H56 because ^H4480 H6440 of the curse ^H423.

The pastures ^H4999 of the wilderness ^H4057 have dried ^H3001 up ^H3001.

Their course ^H4794 also is evil ^H7451,

And their might ^H1369 is not right ^H3651.

11 “For both ^H1571 prophet ^H5030 and priest ^H3548 are polluted ^H2610;

Even ^H1571 in My house ^H1004 I have found ^H4672 their evil ^H7451,” declares ^H5002 Yahweh ^H3068.

12 “Therefore ^H3651 their way ^H1870 will be like slippery ^H2519 paths ^H2519 to them;

They will be driven ^H1760 away ^H1760 into the thick ^H653 darkness ^H653 and fall ^H5307 down ^H5307 in it;

For I will bring ^H935 their evil ^H7451 upon them,

The year ^H8141 of their [fn]punishment ^H6486,” declares ^H5002 Yahweh ^H3068.

13 “Moreover, among the prophets ^H5030 of Samaria ^H8111 I saw ^H7200 an offensive ^H8604 thing ^H8604:

They prophesied ^H5012 by Baal ^H1168 and led ^H8582 My people ^H5971 Israel ^H3478 astray ^H8582.

14 “Also among the prophets ^H5030 of Jerusalem ^H3389 I have seen ^H7200 an appalling ^H8186 thing ^H8186:

The committing ^H5003 of ^H5003 adultery ^H5003 and walking ^H1980 in lying ^H8267;

And they strengthen ^H2388 the hands ^H3027 of evildoers ^H7489,

So that no ^H1115 one ^H376 has turned ^H7725 back ^H7725 from his evil ^H7451.

All ^H3605 of them have become ^H1961 to Me like Sodom ^H5467,

And her inhabitants ^H3427 like Gomorrah ^H6017.

15 Therefore ^H3651 thus ^H3541 says ^H559 Yahweh ^H3068 of hosts ^H6635 concerning ^H5921 the prophets ^H5030,

‘Behold ^H2009, I am going to feed ^H398 them wormwood ^H3939

And make ^H8248 them drink ^H8248 [fn]poisoned ^H7219 water ^H4325,

For from the prophets ^H5030 of Jerusalem ^H3389

Pollution ^H2613 has gone ^H3318 forth ^H3318 into all ^H3605 the land ^H776.’”

16 Thus ^H3541 says ^H559 Yahweh ^H3068 of hosts ^H6635,

“Do not listen ^H8085 to the words ^H1697 of the prophets ^H5030 who are prophesying ^H5012 to you.

They are leading ^H1891 you into ^H1891 vanity ^H1891;

They speak ^H1696 a vision ^H2377 of their own heart ^H3820,

Not from the mouth ^H6310 of Yahweh ^H3068.

17 “They keep saying ^H559 to those who spurn ^H5006 Me,

‘Yahweh ^H3068 has said ^H1696, “You will have ^H1961 peace ^H7965”’;

And as for everyone ^H3605 who walks ^H1980 in the stubbornness ^H8307 of his own heart ^H3820,

They say ^H559, ‘Evil ^H7451 will not come ^H935 upon you.’

18 “But who ^H4310 has stood ^H5975 in the council ^H5475 of Yahweh ^H3068,

That he should see ^H7200 and hear ^H8085 His word ^H1697?

Who ^H4310 has given ^H7181 heed ^H7181 to [fn]His word ^H1697 and heard ^H8085?

19 “Behold ^H2009, the storm ^H5591 of Yahweh ^H3068 has gone ^H3318 forth ^H3318 in wrath ^H2534,

Even a whirling ^H2342 storm ^H5591;

It will whirl ^H2342 down ^H2342 on the head ^H7218 of the wicked ^H7563.

20 “The anger ^H639 of Yahweh ^H3068 will not turn ^H7725 back ^H7725

Until ^H5704 He has done ^H6213 and established ^H6965 the purposes ^H4209 of His heart ^H3820;

In the last ^H319 days ^H3117 you will clearly ^H998 understand ^H995 it.

21 “I did not send ^H7971 these prophets ^H5030,

But they ran ^H7323.

I did not speak ^H1696 to them,

But they prophesied ^H5012.

22 “But if ^H518 they had stood ^H5975 in My council ^H5475,

Then they would have caused ^H8085 My words ^H1697 to ^H8085 be ^H8085 heard ^H8085 by My people ^H5971

And would have turned ^H7725 them back ^H7725 from their evil ^H7451 way ^H1870

And from the evil ^H7455 of their deeds ^H4611.

23 “Am I a God ^H430 who is near ^H7138,” declares ^H5002 Yahweh ^H3068,

“And not a God ^H430 far ^H7350 off ^H4480 H7350?

24 “Can a man ^H376 hide ^H5641 himself in hiding ^H4565 places ^H4565

So I do not see ^H7200 him?” declares ^H5002 Yahweh ^H3068.

“Do I not fill ^H4390 the heavens ^H8064 and the earth ^H776?” declares ^H5002 Yahweh ^H3068.

25 “I have heard ^H8085 what ^H834 the prophets ^H5030 have said ^H559 who prophesy ^H5012 a lie ^H8267 in My name ^H8034, saying ^H559, ‘I had ^H2492 a ^H2492 dream ^H2492, I had ^H2492 a ^H2492 dream ^H2492!’

26 How ^H4970 long ^H5704 H4970? Is ^H3426 there ^H3426 anything in the hearts ^H3820 of the prophets ^H5030 who prophesy ^H5012 a lie ^H8267, even these prophets ^H5030 of the deception ^H8649 of their own heart ^H3820, 27 who intend ^H2803 to make My people ^H5971 forget ^H7911 My name ^H8034 by their dreams ^H2472 which ^H834 they recount ^H5608 to one ^H376 another ^H7453, just ^H834 as their fathers ^H1 forgot ^H7911 My name ^H8034 because of Baal ^H1168? 28 The prophet ^H5030 who ^H834 has ^H854 a dream ^H2472 may recount ^H5608 his dream ^H2472, but let him who ^H834 has ^H854 My word ^H1697 speak ^H1696 My word ^H1697 in truth ^H571. What ^H4100 does straw ^H8401 have in common with grain ^H1250?” declares ^H5002 Yahweh ^H3068. 29 “Is not My word ^H1697 like fire ^H784?” declares ^H5002 Yahweh ^H3068, “and like a hammer ^H6360 which shatters ^H6327 a rock ^H5553? 30 Therefore ^H3651 behold ^H2009, I am against ^H5921 the prophets ^H5030,” declares ^H5002 Yahweh ^H3068, “who steal ^H1589 My words ^H1697 from each ^H376 other ^H7453. 31 Behold ^H2009, I am against ^H5921 the prophets ^H5030,” declares ^H5002 Yahweh ^H3068, “who take ^H3947 their tongues ^H3956 and declare ^H5001, ‘Yahweh declares ^H5002.’ 32 Behold ^H2009, I am against ^H5921 those who have prophesied ^H5012 lying ^H8267 dreams ^H2472,” declares ^H5002 Yahweh ^H3068, “and who recounted ^H5608 them and led ^H8582 My people ^H5971 astray ^H8582 by their lying ^H8267 and reckless ^H6350 boasting ^H6350; yet I did not send ^H7971 them, and I did not command ^H6680 them, and they do not ^H3808 furnish ^H3276 this ^H2088 people ^H5971 the slightest ^H3276 benefit ^H3276,” declares ^H5002 Yahweh ^H3068.

33 “Now when ^H3588 this ^H2088 people ^H5971 or ^H176 the prophet ^H5030 or ^H176 a priest ^H3548 asks ^H7592 you, saying ^H559, ‘What ^H4100 is the [fn]oracle ^H4853 of Yahweh ^H3068?’ then you shall say ^H559 to them, ‘What ^H4100 oracle ^H4853?’ Yahweh ^H3068 declares ^H5002, ‘I will abandon ^H5203 you.’ 34 Then as for the prophet ^H5030 or the priest ^H3548 or the people ^H5971 who ^H834 say ^H559, ‘The oracle ^H4853 of Yahweh ^H3068,’ I will bring ^H6485 punishment ^H6485 upon that man ^H376 and his household ^H1004. 35 Thus ^H3541 will each ^H376 of you say ^H559 to his neighbor ^H7453 and to his brother ^H251, ‘What ^H4100 has Yahweh ^H3068 answered ^H6030?’ or, ‘What ^H4100 has Yahweh ^H3068 spoken ^H1696?’ 36 For you will no ^H3808 longer ^H5750 remember ^H2142 the oracle ^H4853 of Yahweh ^H3068 because ^H3588 every ^H376 man’s ^H376 own word ^H1697 will become ^H1961 the oracle ^H4853, and you have perverted ^H2015 the words ^H1697 of the living ^H2416 God ^H430, Yahweh ^H3068 of hosts ^H6635, our God ^H430. 37 Thus ^H3541 you will say ^H559 to that prophet ^H5030, ‘What ^H4100 has Yahweh ^H3068 answered ^H6030 you?’ and, ‘What ^H4100 has Yahweh ^H3068 spoken ^H1696?’ 38 For if ^H518 you all say ^H559, ‘The oracle ^H4853 of Yahweh ^H3068!’ surely ^H3651 thus ^H3541 says ^H559 Yahweh ^H3068, ‘Because ^H3282 you said ^H559 this ^H2088 word ^H1697, “The oracle ^H4853 of Yahweh ^H3068!” I have also sent ^H7971 to you, saying ^H559, “You shall not say ^H559, ‘The oracle ^H4853 of Yahweh ^H3068!’”’ 39 Therefore ^H3651 behold ^H2009, I will surely ^H5382 forget ^H5382 you and abandon ^H5203 you, along with the city ^H5892 which ^H834 I gave ^H5414 you and your fathers ^H1, so that you are out of My presence ^H6440. 40 I will put ^H5414 an everlasting ^H5769 reproach ^H2781 on you and an everlasting ^H5769 humiliation ^H3640 which ^H834 will not be forgotten ^H7911.”
