The Yoke of Nebuchadnezzar

1 In the beginning ^H7225 of the reign ^H4467 of [fn]Zedekiah ^H6667 the son ^H1121 of Josiah ^H2977, king ^H4428 of Judah ^H3063, this ^H2088 word ^H1697 came ^H1961 to Jeremiah ^H3414 from Yahweh ^H3068, saying ^H559—

2 thus ^H3541 says ^H559 Yahweh ^H3068 to me-“Make ^H6213 for yourself bonds ^H4147 and the bars ^H4133 of a yoke ^H4133 and put ^H5414 them on your neck ^H6677, 3 and you shall send ^H7971 [fn]word to the king ^H4428 of Edom ^H123, to the king ^H4428 of Moab ^H4124, to the king ^H4428 of the sons ^H1121 of Ammon ^H5983, to the king ^H4428 of Tyre ^H6865, and to the king ^H4428 of Sidon ^H6721 by the hand ^H3027 of messengers ^H4397 who come ^H935 to Jerusalem ^H3389 to Zedekiah ^H6667 king ^H4428 of Judah ^H3063. 4 And you shall command ^H6680 them to go to their masters ^H113, saying ^H559, ‘Thus ^H3541 says ^H559 Yahweh ^H3068 of hosts ^H6635, the God ^H430 of Israel ^H3478, thus ^H3541 you shall say ^H559 to your masters ^H113, 5 “I have made ^H6213 the earth ^H776, the men ^H120, and the animals ^H929 which ^H834 are on the face ^H6440 of the earth ^H776 by My great ^H1419 power ^H3581 and by My outstretched ^H5186 arm ^H2220, and I will give ^H5414 it to the one who ^H834 is ^H3474 right ^H3474 in My eyes ^H5869. 6 So now ^H6258, I have given ^H5414 all ^H3605 these ^H428 lands ^H776 into the hand ^H3027 of Nebuchadnezzar ^H5019 king ^H4428 of Babylon ^H894, My servant ^H5650, and I have given ^H5414 him even ^H1571 the wild ^H2416 beasts ^H2416 of the field ^H7704 to serve ^H5647 him. 7 All ^H3605 the nations ^H1471 shall serve ^H5647 him and his son ^H1121 and his grandson ^H1121 until ^H5704 the time ^H6256 of his own land ^H776 comes ^H935; then many ^H7227 nations ^H1471 and great ^H1419 kings ^H4428 will [fn]make ^H5647 him their servant ^H5647.

8 “And it will be, that the nation ^H1471 or the kingdom ^H4467 which ^H834 will not serve ^H5647 him, Nebuchadnezzar ^H5019 king ^H4428 of Babylon ^H894, and which ^H834 will not put ^H5414 its neck ^H6677 under the yoke ^H5923 of the king ^H4428 of Babylon ^H894, I will punish ^H6485 that nation ^H1471 with the sword ^H2719, with famine ^H7458, and with pestilence ^H1698,” declares ^H5002 Yahweh ^H3068, “until ^H5704 I have brought ^H8552 [fn]it to ^H8552 an end ^H8552 by his hand ^H3027. 9 But as for you, do not listen ^H8085 to your prophets ^H5030, your diviners ^H7080, your [fn]dreamers ^H2472, your soothsayers ^H6049, or your sorcerers ^H3786 who ^H834 speak ^H559 to you, saying ^H559, ‘You will not serve ^H5647 the king ^H4428 of Babylon ^H894.’ 10 For they prophesy ^H5012 a lie ^H8267 to you in order ^H4616 to remove ^H7368 you far ^H7368 from your land ^H127; and I will banish ^H5080 you, and you will perish ^H6. 11 But the nation ^H1471 which ^H834 will bring ^H935 its neck ^H6677 under the yoke ^H5923 of the king ^H4428 of Babylon ^H894 and serve ^H5647 him, I will leave ^H5117 it on its land ^H127,” declares ^H5002 Yahweh ^H3068, “and they will serve ^H5647 it and inhabit ^H3427 it.”’”

12 I spoke ^H1696 words ^H1697 like all ^H3605 these ^H428 to Zedekiah ^H6667 king ^H4428 of Judah ^H3063, saying ^H559, “Bring ^H935 your necks ^H6677 under the yoke ^H5923 of the king ^H4428 of Babylon ^H894 and serve ^H5647 him and his people ^H5971, and live ^H2421! 13 Why ^H4100 will you die ^H4191, you and your people ^H5971, by the sword ^H2719, famine ^H7458, and pestilence ^H1698, as Yahweh ^H3068 has spoken ^H1696 to that nation ^H1471 which ^H834 will not serve ^H5647 the king ^H4428 of Babylon ^H894? 14 So do not listen ^H8085 to the words ^H1697 of the prophets ^H5030 who speak ^H559 to you, saying ^H559, ‘You will not serve ^H5647 the king ^H4428 of Babylon ^H894,’ for they prophesy ^H5012 a lie ^H8267 to you; 15 for I have not sent ^H7971 them,” declares ^H5002 Yahweh ^H3068, “but they prophesy ^H5012 a lie ^H8267 in My name ^H8034, in order ^H4616 that I may banish ^H5080 you and that you may perish ^H6, you and the prophets ^H5030 who prophesy ^H5012 to you.”

16 Then I spoke ^H1696 to the priests ^H3548 and to all ^H3605 this ^H2088 people ^H5971, saying ^H559, “Thus ^H3541 says ^H559 Yahweh ^H3068: Do not listen ^H8085 to the words ^H1697 of your prophets ^H5030 who prophesy ^H5012 to you, saying ^H559, ‘Behold ^H2009, the vessels ^H3627 of the house ^H1004 of Yahweh ^H3068 will now ^H6258 shortly ^H4120 be returned ^H7725 from Babylon ^H894’; for they are prophesying ^H5012 a lie ^H8267 to you. 17 Do not listen ^H8085 to them; serve ^H5647 the king ^H4428 of Babylon ^H894, and live ^H2421! Why ^H4100 should this ^H2088 city ^H5892 become ^H1961 a waste ^H2723 place ^H2723? 18 But if ^H518 they are prophets ^H5030, and if ^H518 the word ^H1697 of Yahweh ^H3068 is with them, let them now ^H4994 intercede ^H6293 with Yahweh ^H3068 of hosts ^H6635 that the vessels ^H3627 which are left ^H3498 in the house ^H1004 of Yahweh ^H3068, in the house ^H1004 of the king ^H4428 of Judah ^H3063, and in Jerusalem ^H3389 may not go ^H935 to Babylon ^H894. 19 For thus ^H3541 says ^H559 Yahweh ^H3068 of hosts ^H6635 concerning ^H413 the pillars ^H5982, concerning ^H5921 the sea ^H3220, concerning ^H5921 the stands ^H4350, and concerning ^H5921 the rest ^H3499 of the vessels ^H3627 that are left ^H3498 in this ^H2088 city ^H5892, 20 which ^H834 Nebuchadnezzar ^H5019 king ^H4428 of Babylon ^H894 did not take ^H3947 when he carried ^H1540 away ^H1540 into ^H1540 exile ^H1540 Jeconiah ^H3204 the son ^H1121 of Jehoiakim ^H3079, king ^H4428 of Judah ^H3063, from Jerusalem ^H3389 to Babylon ^H894, and all ^H3605 the nobles ^H2715 of Judah ^H3063 and Jerusalem ^H3389. 21 Indeed ^H3588, thus ^H3541 says ^H559 Yahweh ^H3068 of hosts ^H6635, the God ^H430 of Israel ^H3478, concerning ^H5921 the vessels ^H3627 that are left ^H3498 in the house ^H1004 of Yahweh ^H3068 and in the house ^H1004 of the king ^H4428 of Judah ^H3063 and in Jerusalem ^H3389, 22 ‘They will be brought ^H935 to Babylon ^H894, and they will be there ^H8033 until ^H5704 the day ^H3117 I [fn]visit ^H6485 them,’ declares ^H5002 Yahweh ^H3068. ‘Then I will bring ^H5927 them up ^H5927 and return ^H7725 them to this ^H2088 place ^H4725.’”
