The People Ask Jeremiah to Pray

1 Then all ^H3605 the [fn]commanders ^H8269 of the military ^H2428 forces ^H2428, Johanan ^H3076 the son ^H1121 of Kareah ^H7143, Jezaniah ^H3153 the son ^H1121 of Hoshaiah ^H1955, and all ^H3605 the people ^H5971 both ^H4480 small ^H6996 and great ^H1419 approached ^H5066

2 and said ^H559 to Jeremiah ^H3414 the prophet ^H5030, “Please ^H4994 let our supplication ^H8467 [fn]come ^H5307 before ^H6440 you, and pray ^H6419 for us to Yahweh ^H3068 your God ^H430, that is for all ^H3605 this ^H2088 remnant ^H7611, because ^H3588 we remain ^H7604 but a few ^H4592 out of many ^H7235, as your own eyes ^H5869 now see ^H7200 us, 3 that Yahweh ^H3068 your God ^H430 may tell ^H5046 us the way ^H1870 in which ^H834 we should walk ^H1980 and the thing ^H1697 that we should do ^H6213.” 4 Then Jeremiah ^H3414 the prophet ^H5030 said ^H559 to them, “I have heard ^H8085 you. Behold ^H2009, I am going to pray ^H6419 to Yahweh ^H3068 your God ^H430 in accordance with your words ^H1697; and I will tell ^H5046 you the whole ^H3605 [fn]message ^H1697 which ^H834 Yahweh ^H3068 will answer ^H6030 you. I will not keep ^H4513 back ^H4513 a word ^H1697 from you.” 5 And they said ^H559 to Jeremiah ^H3414, “May Yahweh ^H3068 be a true ^H571 and faithful ^H539 witness ^H5707 against us if ^H518 we do not act ^H6213 in accordance with the whole ^H3605 [fn]message ^H1697 with which ^H834 Yahweh ^H3068 your God ^H430 will send ^H7971 you to us. 6 Whether ^H518 it is good ^H2896 or ^H518 bad ^H7451, we will listen ^H8085 to the voice ^H6963 of Yahweh ^H3068 our God ^H430 to whom ^H834 we are sending ^H7971 you, so ^H4616 that good ^H3190 may come ^H3190 to us when ^H3588 we listen ^H8085 to the voice ^H6963 of Yahweh ^H3068 our God ^H430.”

7 Now it happened that at the end ^H7093 of ten ^H6235 days ^H3117 the word ^H1697 of Yahweh ^H3068 came ^H1961 to Jeremiah ^H3414. 8 Then he called ^H7121 for Johanan ^H3076 the son ^H1121 of Kareah ^H7143 and all ^H3605 the [fn]commanders ^H8269 of the military ^H2428 forces ^H2428 that were with him, and for all ^H3605 the people ^H5971 both ^H4480 small ^H6996 and great ^H1419, 9 and said ^H559 to them, “Thus ^H3541 says ^H559 Yahweh ^H3068 the God ^H430 of Israel ^H3478, to whom ^H834 you sent ^H7971 me to present ^H5307 your supplication ^H8467 before ^H6440 Him: 10 ‘If ^H518 you will indeed ^H3427 stay ^H3427 in this ^H2088 land ^H776, then I will build ^H1129 you up ^H1129 and not pull ^H2040 you down ^H2040, and I will plant ^H5193 you and not uproot ^H5428 you; for I have [fn]relented ^H5162 of ^H413 the calamity ^H7451 that I have done ^H6213 against you. 11 Do not be ^H3372 afraid ^H3372 of the king ^H4428 of Babylon ^H894, whom ^H834 you are now fearing ^H3372; do not be ^H3372 afraid ^H3372 of him,’ declares ^H5002 Yahweh ^H3068, ‘for I am with you to save ^H3467 you and deliver ^H5337 you from his hand ^H3027. 12 I will also show ^H5414 you compassion ^H7356, so that he will have ^H7355 compassion ^H7355 on ^H7355 you and return ^H7725 you to your own soil ^H127. 13 But if ^H518 you are going to say ^H559, “We will not stay ^H3427 in this ^H2088 land ^H776,” so as not to listen ^H8085 to the voice ^H6963 of Yahweh ^H3068 your God ^H430, 14 saying ^H559, “No ^H3808, but we will go ^H935 to the land ^H776 of Egypt ^H4714, where ^H834 we will not see ^H7200 war ^H4421 or hear ^H8085 the sound ^H6963 of a trumpet ^H7782 or hunger ^H7456 for bread ^H3899, and we will stay ^H3427 there ^H8033,” 15 then now ^H3651, listen ^H8085 to the word ^H1697 of Yahweh ^H3068, O remnant ^H7611 of Judah ^H3063. Thus ^H3541 says ^H559 Yahweh ^H3068 of hosts ^H6635, the God ^H430 of Israel ^H3478, “If ^H518 you really ^H7760 set ^H7760 your face ^H6440 to enter ^H935 Egypt ^H4714, and you will enter ^H935 to sojourn ^H1481 there ^H8033, 16 then the sword ^H2719, which ^H834 you are ^H3372 afraid ^H3372 of, will overtake ^H5381 you there ^H8033 in the land ^H776 of Egypt ^H4714; and the famine ^H7458, about which ^H834 you are ^H1672 anxious ^H1672, will [fn]follow ^H1692 closely ^H1692 after ^H310 you there ^H8033 in Egypt ^H4714, and you will die ^H4191 there ^H8033. 17 So all ^H3605 the men ^H376 who ^H834 set ^H7760 their face ^H6440 to go ^H935 to Egypt ^H4714 to sojourn ^H1481 there ^H8033 will die ^H4191 by the sword ^H2719, by the famine ^H7458, and by the pestilence ^H1698; and they will have ^H1961 no ^H3808 survivors ^H8300 or any who escaped ^H6412 from the calamity ^H7451 that I am going to bring ^H935 on them.”’”

18 For thus ^H3541 says ^H559 Yahweh ^H3068 of hosts ^H6635, the God ^H430 of Israel ^H3478, “As My anger ^H639 and wrath ^H2534 have been poured ^H5413 out ^H5413 on the inhabitants ^H3427 of Jerusalem ^H3389, so ^H3651 My wrath ^H2534 will be poured ^H5413 out ^H5413 on you when you enter ^H935 Egypt ^H4714. And you will become ^H1961 a curse ^H423, an object ^H8047 of ^H8047 horror ^H8047, an imprecation ^H7045, and a reproach ^H2781; and you will see ^H7200 this ^H2088 place ^H4725 no ^H3808 more ^H5750.” 19 Yahweh ^H3068 has spoken ^H1696 to you, O remnant ^H7611 of Judah ^H3063, “Do not go ^H935 into Egypt ^H4714!” You should clearly ^H3045 know ^H3045 that today ^H3117 I have testified ^H5749 against you. 20 For you have only [fn]led ^H8582 yourselves ^H5315 astray ^H8582; for it is you who sent ^H7971 me to Yahweh ^H3068 your God ^H430, saying ^H559, “Pray ^H6419 for us to Yahweh ^H3068 our God ^H430; and according to all ^H3605 that ^H834 Yahweh ^H3068 our God ^H430 says ^H559, tell ^H5046 us so ^H3651, and we will do ^H6213 it.” 21 So I have told ^H5046 you today ^H3117, but you have not listened ^H8085 to the voice ^H6963 of Yahweh ^H3068 your God ^H430, even according to all ^H3605 that ^H834 He has sent ^H7971 me to tell you. 22 So now ^H6258, you should clearly ^H3045 know ^H3045 that you will die ^H4191 by the sword ^H2719, by famine ^H7458, and by pestilence ^H1698, in the place ^H4725 where ^H834 H8033 you desire ^H2654 to go ^H935 to sojourn ^H1481.
