Contend Earnestly for the Faith

To those ^G3588 who are the called ^G2822, beloved ^G25 in God ^G2316 the Father ^G3962, and kept ^G5083 for Jesus ^G2424 Christ ^G5547:

2 May mercy ^G1656 and peace ^G1515 and love ^G26 be multiplied ^G4129 to you.

3 Beloved ^G27, while I was making ^G4160 every ^G3956 effort ^G4710 to write ^G1125 you about ^G4012 our common ^G2839 salvation ^G4991, I felt ^G2192 the necessity ^G318 to write ^G1125 to you exhorting ^G3870 that you contend ^G1864 earnestly ^G1864 for the faith ^G4102 which was once ^G530 for ^G530 all ^G530 handed ^G3860 down ^G3860 to the [fn]saints ^G40. 4 For certain ^G5100 persons ^G444 have crept ^G3921 in ^G3921 unnoticed ^G3921, those ^G3588 who were long ^G3819 beforehand ^G4270 [fn]marked ^G4270 out ^G4270 for this ^G3778 condemnation ^G2917, ungodly ^G765 persons ^G765 who turn ^G3346 the grace ^G5485 of our God ^G2316 into sensuality ^G766 and deny ^G720 our only ^G3441 Master ^G1203 and Lord ^G2962, Jesus ^G2424 Christ ^G5547.

8 Yet ^G3305 in the same ^G3668 way ^G3668 these ^G3778 men ^G3778, also ^G2532 by dreaming ^G1797, defile ^G3392 the flesh ^G4561, and reject ^G114 authority ^G2963, and blaspheme ^G987 [fn]glorious ^G1391 ones. 9 But Michael ^G3413 the archangel ^G743, when ^G3753 he, disputing ^G1252 with the devil ^G1228, was arguing ^G1256 about ^G4012 the body ^G4983 of Moses ^G3475, did not dare ^G5111 pronounce ^G2018 against ^G2018 him a blasphemous ^G988 judgment ^G2920, but said ^G3004, “The Lord ^G2962 rebuke ^G2008 you!” 10 But these ^G3778 men ^G3778 blaspheme ^G987 the things which ^G3745 they do not understand ^G6063; and the things which ^G3745 they know ^G1987 by instinct ^G5447, like ^G5613 unreasoning ^G249 animals ^G2226, by these ^G3778 things ^G3778 they are [fn]destroyed ^G5351. 11 Woe ^G3759 to them! For they have gone ^G4198 the way ^G3598 of Cain ^G2535, and for pay ^G3408 they have poured ^G1632 themselves into the error ^G4106 of Balaam ^G903, and perished ^G622 in the rebellion ^G485 of Korah ^G2879. 12 These ^G3778 are the men ^G3778 who are [fn]hidden ^G4694 reefs ^G4694 in your love ^G26 feasts ^G26 when they feast ^G4910 with you without ^G870 fear ^G870, caring ^G4165 for themselves ^G1438; clouds ^G3507 without ^G504 water ^G504, carried ^G3911 along ^G3911 by winds ^G417; autumn ^G5352 trees ^G1186 without ^G175 fruit ^G175, [fn]doubly ^G1364 dead ^G599, uprooted ^G1610; 13 wild ^G66 waves ^G2949 of the sea ^G2281, casting ^G1890 up their own ^G1438 [fn]shame ^G152 like ^G1890 foam ^G1890; wandering ^G4107 stars ^G792, for whom ^G3739 the [fn]black ^G2217 darkness ^G4655 has been reserved ^G5083 forever ^G165.

14 But Enoch ^G1802, in the seventh ^G1442 generation from Adam ^G76, also ^G2532 prophesied ^G4395 about these ^G3778 men, saying ^G3004, “Behold ^G2400, the Lord ^G2962 came ^G2064 with [fn]many ^G3461 thousands ^G3461 of His holy ^G40 ones ^G40, 15 to execute ^G4160 judgment ^G2920 upon all ^G3956, and to convict ^G1651 all ^G3956 the ungodly ^G765 of all ^G3956 their ungodly ^G763 deeds ^G2041 which ^G3739 they have done ^G764 in ^G764 an ^G764 ungodly ^G764 way ^G764, and of all ^G3956 the harsh ^G4642 things ^G4642 which ^G3739 ungodly ^G763 sinners ^G268 have spoken ^G2980 against ^G2596 Him.” 16 These ^G3778 are grumblers ^G1113, finding ^G3202 fault ^G3202, following ^G4198 after ^G2596 their own lusts ^G1939; and their mouth speaks ^G2980 arrogantly ^G5246, [fn]flattering ^G2296 people ^G4383 for the sake ^G5484 of their own benefit ^G5622.

Keep Yourselves in the Love of God

17 But you, beloved ^G27, must remember ^G3403 the words ^G4487 that were spoken ^G4280 beforehand ^G4280 by the apostles ^G652 of our Lord ^G2962 Jesus ^G2424 Christ ^G5547,

18 that they were saying ^G3004 to you, “In the last ^G2078 time ^G5550 there will be mockers ^G1703, following ^G4198 after ^G2596 their own ^G1438 ungodly ^G763 lusts ^G1939.” 19 These ^G3778 are the ones who cause ^G592 divisions ^G592, [fn]worldly-minded ^G5591, not ^G3361 having ^G2192 the Spirit ^G4151. 20 But you, beloved ^G27, building ^G2026 yourselves ^G1438 up ^G2026 on ^G2026 your most ^G40 holy ^G40 faith ^G4102, praying ^G4336 in the Holy ^G40 Spirit ^G4151, 21 keep ^G5083 yourselves ^G1438 in the love ^G26 of God ^G2316, waiting ^G4327 for the mercy ^G1656 of our Lord ^G2962 Jesus ^G2424 Christ ^G5547 to eternal ^G166 life ^G2222. 22 And on some ^G3739 G3303, who are doubting ^G1252, have ^G1653 mercy ^G1653; 23 and for others, save ^G4982, snatching ^G726 them out of the fire ^G4442; and on others ^G3739 have ^G1653 mercy ^G1653 with fear ^G5401, hating ^G3404 even ^G2532 the tunic ^G5509 polluted ^G4695 by the flesh ^G4561.

24 Now ^G1161 to Him who is able ^G1410 to keep ^G5442 you from ^G679 stumbling ^G679, and to make ^G2476 you stand ^G2476 in ^G2714 the ^G2714 presence ^G2714 of His glory ^G1391 blameless ^G299 with great ^G20 joy ^G20, 25 to the only ^G3441 God ^G2316 our Savior ^G4990, through ^G1223 Jesus ^G2424 Christ ^G5547 our Lord ^G2962, be glory ^G1391, majesty ^G3172, might ^G2904, and authority ^G1849, before ^G4253 all ^G3956 time ^G165 and now ^G3568 and [fn]forever ^G165.
