Nadab and Abihu Offer Strange Fire

1 Then Nadab ^H5070 and Abihu ^H30, the sons ^H1121 of Aaron ^H175, took ^H3947 their respective ^H376 firepans ^H4289 and put ^H5414 fire ^H784 in them. Then they placed ^H7760 incense ^H7004 on it and offered ^H7126 strange ^H2114 fire ^H784 before ^H6440 Yahweh ^H3068, which ^H834 He had not commanded ^H6680 them.

2 And fire ^H784 came ^H3318 out ^H3318 from the presence ^H6440 of Yahweh ^H3068 and consumed ^H398 them, and they died ^H4191 before ^H6440 Yahweh ^H3068. 3 Then Moses ^H4872 said ^H559 to Aaron ^H175, “It is what ^H834 Yahweh ^H3068 spoke ^H1696, saying ^H559,

‘By those who come ^H7126 near ^H7138 Me I [fn]will be treated ^H6942 as ^H6942 holy ^H6942,

And before ^H5921 H6440 all ^H3605 the people ^H5971 I will be glorified ^H3513.’”

So Aaron ^H175 kept ^H1826 silent ^H1826.

4 Then Moses ^H4872 called ^H7121 to Mishael ^H4332 and Elzaphan ^H469, the sons ^H1121 of Aaron’s ^H175 uncle ^H1730 Uzziel ^H5816, and said ^H559 to them, “Come ^H7126 near ^H7126, carry ^H5375 your [fn]relatives ^H251 away ^H5375 from the front ^H6440 of the sanctuary ^H6944 to the outside ^H4480 H2351 of the camp ^H4264.” 5 So they came ^H7126 near ^H7126 and carried ^H5375 them still in their tunics ^H3801 to the outside ^H4480 H2351 of the camp ^H4264, as Moses ^H4872 had said ^H1696. 6 Then Moses ^H4872 said ^H559 to Aaron ^H175 and to his sons ^H1121 Eleazar ^H499 and Ithamar ^H385, “Do not [fn]uncover ^H6544 your heads ^H7218 nor ^H3808 tear ^H6533 your clothes ^H899, so that you will not die ^H4191 and that He will not become ^H7107 wrathful ^H7107 against ^H5921 all ^H3605 the congregation ^H5712. But your [fn]relatives ^H251, the whole ^H3605 house ^H1004 of Israel ^H3478, shall weep ^H1058 over the burning ^H8316 which ^H834 Yahweh ^H3068 has [fn]brought ^H8313 about ^H8313. 7 You shall not even go ^H3318 out ^H3318 from the doorway ^H6607 of the tent ^H168 of meeting ^H4150, lest ^H6435 you die ^H4191; for the anointing ^H4888 oil ^H8081 of Yahweh ^H3068 is upon you.” So they did ^H6213 according to the word ^H1697 of Moses ^H4872.

8 Yahweh ^H3068 then spoke ^H1696 to Aaron ^H175, saying ^H559, 9 “Do not drink ^H8354 wine ^H3196 or strong ^H7941 drink ^H7941, neither you nor ^H408 your sons ^H1121 with you, when you come ^H935 into the tent ^H168 of meeting ^H4150, so that you will not die ^H4191—it is a perpetual ^H5769 statute ^H2708 throughout your generations ^H1755— 10 and so as to separate ^H914 between ^H996 the holy ^H6944 and the profane ^H2455, and between ^H996 the unclean ^H2931 and the clean ^H2889, 11 and so as to instruct ^H3384 the sons ^H1121 of Israel ^H3478 in all ^H3605 the statutes ^H2706 which ^H834 Yahweh ^H3068 has spoken ^H1696 to them through ^H3027 Moses ^H4872.”

12 Then Moses ^H4872 spoke ^H1696 to Aaron ^H175 and to his remaining ^H3498 sons ^H1121, Eleazar ^H499 and Ithamar ^H385, “Take ^H3947 the remaining ^H3498 grain offering ^H4503 from the offerings ^H801 to Yahweh ^H3068 by ^H801 fire ^H801 and eat ^H398 it unleavened ^H4682 beside ^H681 the altar ^H4196, for it is most ^H6944 holy ^H6944. 13 And you shall eat ^H398 it in a holy ^H6918 place ^H4725 because ^H3588 it is a statute ^H2706 for you and a statute ^H2706 for your sons ^H1121 taken out of the offerings ^H801 of Yahweh ^H3068 by ^H801 fire ^H801; for thus ^H3651 I have been commanded ^H6680. 14 The breast ^H2373 of the wave ^H8573 offering ^H8573, however, and the thigh ^H7785 of the [fn]contribution ^H8641 offering ^H8641 you may eat ^H398 in a clean ^H2889 place ^H4725, you and your sons ^H1121 and your daughters ^H1323 with you; for they have been given ^H5414 as a statute ^H2706 for you and a statute ^H2706 for your sons ^H1121 taken out of the sacrifices ^H2077 of the peace ^H8002 offerings ^H8002 of the sons ^H1121 of Israel ^H3478. 15 The thigh ^H7785 contributed ^H8641 by [fn]raising ^H8641 up ^H8641 and the breast ^H2373 offered ^H8573 by waving ^H8573 they shall bring ^H935 along ^H5921 with the offerings ^H801 by ^H801 fire ^H801 of the portions ^H2459 of ^H2459 fat ^H2459, to wave ^H5130 as a wave ^H8573 offering ^H8573 before ^H6440 Yahweh ^H3068; so it shall be a perpetual ^H5769 statute ^H2706 for you and your sons ^H1121 with you, just ^H834 as Yahweh ^H3068 has commanded ^H6680.”

16 But Moses ^H4872 searched ^H1875 carefully ^H1875 for the goat ^H5795 of the sin ^H2403 offering ^H2403, and behold ^H2009, it had been burned ^H8313 up! So he was ^H7107 angry ^H7107 with Aaron’s ^H175 remaining ^H3498 sons ^H1121 Eleazar ^H499 and Ithamar ^H385, saying ^H559, 17 “Why ^H4069 did you not eat ^H398 the sin ^H2403 offering ^H2403 at the holy ^H6944 place ^H4725? For it is most ^H6944 holy ^H6944, and [fn]He gave ^H5414 it to you to bear ^H5375 away the guilt ^H5771 of the congregation ^H5712, to make ^H3722 atonement ^H3722 for them before ^H6440 Yahweh ^H3068. 18 Behold ^H2005, since its blood ^H1818 had not been brought ^H935 inside ^H6441, into the sanctuary ^H6944, you should certainly ^H398 have eaten ^H398 it in the sanctuary ^H6944, just ^H834 as I commanded ^H6680.” 19 But Aaron ^H175 spoke ^H1696 to Moses ^H4872, “Behold ^H2005, this very day ^H3117 they brought ^H7126 near ^H7126 their sin ^H2403 offering ^H2403 and their burnt ^H5930 offering ^H5930 before ^H6440 Yahweh ^H3068. Then things like these ^H428 happened ^H7122 to me. So if I had eaten ^H398 a sin ^H2403 offering ^H2403 today ^H3117, would it have been ^H3190 good ^H3190 in the sight ^H5869 of Yahweh ^H3068?” 20 So Moses ^H4872 heard ^H8085 this, and it was ^H3190 good ^H3190 in his sight ^H5869.
