Yahweh’s Love for Jacob

1 The [fn]oracle ^H4853 of the word ^H1697 of [fn]Yahweh ^H3068 to Israel ^H3478 by the hand ^H3027 of [fn]Malachi ^H4401.

2 “I have loved ^H157 you,” says ^H559 Yahweh ^H3068. But you say ^H559, “How ^H4100 have You loved ^H157 us?” “Was not Esau ^H6215 Jacob’s ^H3290 brother ^H251?” declares ^H5002 Yahweh ^H3068. “Yet I have loved ^H157 Jacob ^H3290;

3 but I have hated ^H8130 Esau ^H6215, and I have set ^H7760 his mountains ^H2022 to be a desolation ^H8077 and his inheritance ^H5159 for the jackals ^H8565 of the wilderness ^H4057.” 4 Though ^H3588 Edom ^H123 says ^H559, “We have been demolished ^H7567, but we will [fn]return ^H7725 and build ^H1129 up ^H1129 the waste ^H2723 places ^H2723”; thus ^H3541 says ^H559 Yahweh ^H3068 of hosts ^H6635, “They may build ^H1129, but I will pull ^H2040 down ^H2040; and men will call ^H7121 them a [fn]territory ^H1366 of wickedness ^H7562, and the people ^H5971 [fn]toward whom ^H834 Yahweh ^H3068 is ^H2194 indignant ^H2194 forever ^H5704 H5769.” 5 And your eyes ^H5869 will see ^H7200 this, and you will say ^H559, “Yahweh ^H3068 [fn]be magnified ^H1431 beyond ^H4480 H5921 the [fn]territory ^H1366 of Israel ^H3478!”

The Priests Defile Yahweh

6 “‘A son ^H1121 honors ^H3513 his father ^H1, and a slave ^H5650 his master ^H113. Then if ^H518 I am a father ^H1, where ^H346 is My honor ^H3519? And if ^H518 I am a master ^H113, where ^H346 is the fear ^H4172 of Me?’ says ^H559 Yahweh ^H3068 of hosts ^H6635 to you, O priests ^H3548 who despise ^H959 My name ^H8034. But you say ^H559, ‘How ^H4100 have we despised ^H959 Your name ^H8034?’

7 You are presenting ^H5066 defiled ^H1351 [fn]food ^H3899 upon My altar ^H4196. But you say ^H559, ‘How ^H4100 have we defiled ^H1351 You?’ In that you say ^H559, ‘The table ^H7979 of Yahweh ^H3068 is to be ^H959 despised ^H959.’ 8 But when ^H3588 you present ^H5066 the blind ^H5787 for sacrifice ^H2076, is it not evil ^H7451?
