The Plot to Kill Jesus

1 Now ^G1161 the Passover ^G3957 and Unleavened ^G106 Bread were two ^G1417 days ^G2250 away ^G3326; and the chief ^G749 priests ^G749 and the scribes ^G1122 were seeking ^G2212 how ^G4459, after seizing ^G2902 Him in secret ^G1388, they might kill ^G615 Him;

2 for they were saying ^G3004, “Not during ^G1722 the festival ^G1859, lest ^G3379 there be a riot ^G2351 of the people ^G2992.”

The Costly Perfume

3 And while He was in Bethany ^G963 at the home ^G3614 of Simon ^G4613 the leper ^G3015, and reclining ^G2621 at the table, there came ^G2064 a woman ^G1135 with an alabaster ^G211 jar ^G211 of perfume ^G3464 of very ^G4185 costly ^G4185 pure ^G4101 [fn]nard ^G3487; and she broke ^G4937 the jar ^G211 and poured ^G2708 it over ^G2708 His head ^G2776.

The Passover Meal

The Lord’s Supper

22 And while they were eating ^G2068, He took ^G2983 some bread ^G740, and [fn]after a blessing ^G2127, He broke ^G2806 it, and gave ^G1325 it to them, and said ^G3004, “Take ^G2983 it; this ^G3778 is My body ^G4983.”

23 And when He had taken ^G2983 a cup ^G4221 and given ^G2168 thanks ^G2168, He gave ^G1325 it to them, and they all ^G3956 drank ^G4095 from it. 24 And He said ^G3004 to them, “This ^G3778 is My blood ^G129 of the covenant ^G1242, which ^G3588 is poured ^G1632 out ^G1632 for many ^G4183. 25 Truly ^G281 I say ^G3004 to you, I will never ^G3756 G3361 again ^G3765 drink ^G4095 of the fruit ^G6013 of the vine ^G288 until ^G2193 that day ^G2250 when ^G3752 I drink ^G4095 it new ^G2537 in the kingdom ^G932 of God ^G2316.”

Jesus Prays in Gethsemane

The Betrayal and Arrest of Jesus

43 And immediately ^G2117 while He was still ^G2089 speaking ^G2980, Judas ^G2455, one ^G1520 of the twelve ^G1427, *came ^G3854 up, and ^G2532 with ^G3326 him ^G846 was a crowd ^G3793 with swords ^G3162 and clubs ^G3586, who were from the chief ^G749 priests ^G749 and the scribes ^G1122 and the elders ^G4245.

Jesus Before His Accusers

53 Then ^G2532 they led ^G520 Jesus ^G2424 away ^G520 to the high ^G749 priest ^G749; and all ^G3956 the chief ^G749 priests ^G749 and the elders ^G4245 and the scribes ^G1122 *gathered ^G4905 together ^G4905.

54 And Peter ^G4074 followed ^G190 Him at a distance ^G3113, right ^G2193 into the courtyard ^G833 of the high ^G749 priest ^G749; and he was sitting ^G4775 with the [fn]officers ^G5257 and warming ^G2328 himself at the [fn]fire ^G5457. 55 Now ^G1161 the chief ^G749 priests ^G749 and the whole ^G3650 [fn]Sanhedrin ^G4892 were seeking ^G2212 to ^G2212 obtain ^G2212 testimony ^G3141 against ^G2596 Jesus ^G2424 to put ^G2289 Him to ^G2289 death ^G2289, and they were not finding ^G2147 any. 56 For many ^G4183 were giving ^G5576 false ^G5576 testimony ^G5576 against ^G2596 Him, but their testimony ^G3141 was not consistent ^G2470. 57 And some ^G5100, standing ^G450 up ^G450, were giving ^G5576 false ^G5576 testimony ^G5576 against ^G2596 Him, saying ^G3004, 58 “We ourselves ^G2249 heard ^G191 Him say ^G3004, ‘I will destroy ^G2647 this ^G3778 [fn]sanctuary ^G3485 made ^G5499 with hands ^G5499, and in three ^G5140 days ^G2250 I will build ^G3618 another ^G243 made ^G886 without ^G886 hands ^G886.’” 59 And not even ^G3761 in ^G3779 this ^G3779 way ^G3779 was their testimony ^G3141 consistent ^G2470. 60 And the high ^G749 priest ^G749 stood ^G450 up ^G450 in their midst ^G1519 G3319 and questioned ^G1905 Jesus ^G2424, saying ^G3004, “You answer nothing ^G611? Again ^G3825 the high ^G749 priest ^G749 was questioning ^G1905 Him and *said ^G3004 to Him, “Are You the [fn]Christ ^G5547, the Son ^G5207 of the Blessed ^G2128 One?” 62 And Jesus ^G2424 said ^G3004, “I am ^G1510; and you shall see ^G3708 THE SON ^G5207 OF MAN ^G444 SITTING ^G2521 AT THE RIGHT ^G1188 HAND ^G1188 OF THE POWER ^G1411, and COMING ^G2064 WITH THE CLOUDS ^G3507 OF HEAVEN ^G3772.” 63 And tearing ^G1284 his tunics ^G5509, the high ^G749 priest ^G749 *said ^G3004, “What ^G5101 further ^G2089 need ^G5532 do we have ^G2192 of witnesses ^G3144? 64 You have heard ^G191 the blasphemy ^G988; how ^G5101 does it seem ^G5316 to you?” And they all ^G3956 condemned ^G2632 Him to be deserving ^G1777 of death ^G2288. 65 And some ^G5100 began ^G757 to spit ^G1716 at Him, and [fn]to blindfold ^G4028 Him, and to beat ^G2852 Him with ^G2852 their fists ^G2852, and to say ^G3004 to Him, “Prophesy ^G4395!” And the officers ^G5257 [fn]received ^G2983 Him with [fn]slaps ^G4475 in the face.

Peter’s Denials

66 And as Peter ^G4074 was below ^G2736 in the courtyard ^G833, one ^G1520 of the servant-girls ^G3814 of the high ^G749 priest ^G749 *came ^G2064,

67 and seeing ^G3708 Peter ^G4074 warming ^G2328 himself, she looked ^G1689 at ^G1689 him and *said ^G3004, “You also ^G2532 were with the Nazarene ^G3479, Jesus ^G2424.” 68 But he denied ^G720 it, saying ^G3004, “I neither ^G3777 know ^G6063 nor ^G3777 understand ^G1987 what ^G5101 you are talking ^G3004 about.” And he went ^G1831 out ^G1831 into ^G1519 the entryway ^G4259.[fn] 69 And when the servant-girl ^G3814 saw ^G3708 him, she began ^G757 once ^G3825 more ^G3825 to say ^G3004 to the bystanders ^G3936, “This ^G3778 is one of them!” 70 But again ^G3825 he was denying ^G720 it. And after ^G3326 a little ^G3398 while ^G3398 the bystanders ^G3936 were again ^G3825 saying ^G3004 to Peter ^G4074, “Surely ^G230 you are one of them, for you are also ^G2532 a Galilean ^G1057.” 71 But he began ^G757 to [fn]curse ^G332 and swear ^G3660, “I do not know ^G6063 this ^G3778 man ^G444 you are talking ^G3004 about!” 72 And immediately ^G2117 a rooster ^G220 crowed ^G5455 a second ^G1208 time ^G1208. And Peter ^G4074 remembered ^G363 how ^G5613 Jesus ^G2424 had said ^G3004 the statement ^G4487 to him, “Before ^G4250 a rooster ^G220 crows ^G5455 twice ^G1364, you will deny ^G533 Me three ^G5151 times ^G5151.” [fn]And throwing himself down ^G1911, he began to cry ^G2799.
