The Triumphal Entry

1 And when ^G3753 they had approached ^G1448 Jerusalem ^G2414 and came ^G2064 to Bethphage ^G967, at the Mount ^G3735 of Olives ^G1636, then ^G5119 Jesus ^G2424 sent ^G649 two ^G1417 disciples ^G3101,

2 saying ^G3004 to them, “Go ^G4198 into the village ^G2968 opposite ^G2713 you, and immediately ^G2117 you will find ^G2147 a donkey ^G3688 tied ^G1210 there and a colt ^G4454 with her; untie ^G3089 them and bring ^G71 them to Me. 3 And if ^G1437 anyone ^G5100 says ^G3004 anything ^G5100 to you, you shall say ^G3004, ‘The Lord ^G2962 has ^G2192 need ^G5532 of them,’ and immediately ^G2117 he will send ^G649 them.” 4 And ^G1161 this ^G3778 [fn]took ^G1096 place ^G1096 in ^G2443 order ^G2443 that ^G2443 what ^G3588 was spoken ^G3004 through ^G1223 the prophet ^G4396 would be fulfilled ^G4137, saying ^G3004,

LOWLY ^G4239, AND MOUNTED ^G1910 ON A DONKEY ^G3688,

AND ^G2532 ON A COLT ^G4454, THE FOAL ^G5207 OF A PACK ^G5268 ANIMAL ^G5268.’”

6 And the disciples ^G3101 went ^G4198 and did ^G4160 just ^G2531 as Jesus ^G2424 had instructed ^G4929 them, 7 and brought ^G71 the donkey ^G3688 and the colt ^G4454, and laid ^G2007 their garments ^G2440 on them; and He sat ^G1940 on [fn]the garments ^G2440. 8 And most ^G4183 of the crowd ^G3793 spread ^G4766 their garments ^G2440 in the road ^G3598, and others ^G243 were cutting ^G2875 branches ^G2798 from the trees ^G1186 and spreading ^G4766 them in the road ^G3598. 9 And the crowds ^G3793 going ^G4254 ahead ^G4254 of Him, and those ^G3588 who followed ^G190, were crying ^G2896 out ^G2896, saying ^G3004,

“Hosanna ^G5614 to the Son ^G5207 of David ^G1138;

10 And when He had entered ^G1525 Jerusalem ^G2414, all ^G3956 the city ^G4172 was stirred ^G4579, saying ^G3004, “Who ^G5101 is this ^G3778?” 11 And the crowds ^G3793 were saying ^G3004, “This ^G3778 is the prophet ^G4396 Jesus ^G2424, from Nazareth ^G3478 in Galilee ^G1056.”

Cleansing the Temple

12 And Jesus ^G2424 entered ^G1525 the temple ^G2413 and drove ^G1544 out ^G1544 all ^G3956 those ^G3588 who were buying ^G59 and selling ^G4453 in the temple ^G2413, and overturned ^G2690 the tables ^G5132 of the money ^G2855 changers ^G2855 and the seats ^G2515 of those ^G3588 who were selling ^G4453 doves ^G4058.

13 And He *said ^G3004 to them, “It is written ^G1125, ‘MY HOUSE ^G3624 SHALL BE CALLED ^G2564 A HOUSE ^G3624 OF PRAYER ^G4335’; but you are making ^G4160 it a ROBBERS’ ^G3027 [fn]DEN ^G4693.”

14 And the blind ^G5185 and the lame ^G5560 came ^G4334 to Him in the temple ^G2413, and He healed ^G2323 them. 15 But when the chief ^G749 priests ^G749 and the scribes ^G1122 saw ^G3708 the marvelous ^G2297 things ^G2297 which He had done ^G4160, and the children ^G3816 who were shouting ^G2896 in the temple ^G2413, saying ^G3004, “Hosanna ^G5614 to the Son ^G5207 of David ^G1138,” they became indignant ^G23 16 and said ^G3004 to Him, “Do You hear ^G191 what ^G5101 these ^G3778 children are saying ^G3004?” And Jesus ^G2424 *said ^G3004 to them, “Yes ^G3483; have you never ^G3763 read ^G314, ‘OUT OF THE MOUTH ^G4750 OF INFANTS ^G3516 AND NURSING ^G2337 BABIES ^G2337 YOU HAVE PREPARED ^G2675 PRAISE ^G136 FOR YOURSELF’?” 17 And He left ^G2641 them and went ^G1831 out ^G1831 of the city ^G4172 to Bethany ^G963, and spent ^G835 the ^G835 night ^G835 there ^G1563.

The Barren Fig Tree

18 Now ^G1161 in the morning ^G4404, when He was returning ^G1877 to the city ^G4172, He became hungry ^G3983.

19 And seeing ^G3708 a lone ^G1520 fig ^G4808 tree ^G4808 by the road ^G3598, He came ^G2064 to it and found ^G2147 nothing ^G3762 on it except ^G1508 leaves ^G5444 only ^G3440; and He *said ^G3004 to it, “No ^G3756 longer ^G3371 shall there ever ^G1519 G165 be any fruit ^G2590 from you.” And at once ^G3916 the fig ^G4808 tree ^G4808 withered ^G3583.

20 And seeing ^G3708 this, the disciples ^G3101 marveled ^G2296, saying ^G3004, “How ^G4459 did the fig ^G4808 tree ^G4808 wither ^G3583 all at once ^G3916?” 21 And Jesus ^G2424 answered ^G611 and said ^G3004 to them, “Truly ^G281 I say ^G3004 to you, if ^G1437 you have ^G2192 faith ^G4102 and do not doubt ^G1252, you will not only ^G3440 do ^G4160 what ^G3588 was done to the fig ^G4808 tree ^G4808, but even ^G2579 if ^G2579 you say ^G3004 to this ^G3778 mountain ^G3735, ‘Be taken ^G142 up ^G142 and cast ^G906 into the sea ^G2281,’ it will happen ^G1096. 22 And all ^G3956 things ^G3956 you ask ^G154 in prayer ^G4335, believing ^G4100, you will receive ^G2983.”

The Authority of Jesus Challenged

23 And when He entered ^G2064 the temple ^G2413, the chief ^G749 priests ^G749 and the elders ^G4245 of the people ^G2992 came ^G4334 to Him while He was teaching ^G1321, and said ^G3004, “By what ^G4169 authority ^G1849 are You doing ^G4160 these ^G3778 things ^G3778, and who ^G5101 gave ^G1325 You this ^G3778 authority ^G1849?”

24 And Jesus ^G2424 answered ^G611 and said ^G3004 to them, “I will also ^G2532 ask ^G2065 you one ^G1520 [fn]thing ^G3056, which ^G3739 if ^G1437 you tell ^G3004 Me, I will also ^G2532 tell ^G3004 you by what ^G4169 authority ^G1849 I do ^G4160 these ^G3778 things ^G3778. 25 The baptism ^G908 of John ^G2491 was from what ^G4159 source, from heaven ^G3772 or ^G2228 from men ^G444?” And they began reasoning ^G1260 among ^G1722 themselves ^G1438, saying ^G3004, “If ^G1437 we say ^G3004, ‘From heaven ^G3772,’ He will say ^G3004 to us, ‘Then ^G3767 why ^G1223 G5101 did you not believe ^G4100 him?’ 26 But if ^G1437 we say ^G3004, ‘From men ^G444,’ we fear ^G5399 the crowd ^G3793; for they all ^G3956 regard ^G2192 John ^G2491 as a prophet ^G4396.” 27 And they answered ^G611 Jesus ^G2424 and said ^G3004, “We do not know ^G6063.” He also ^G2532 said ^G5346 to them, “Neither ^G3761 will I tell ^G3004 you by what ^G4169 authority ^G1849 I do ^G4160 these ^G3778 things ^G3778.

Parable of Two Sons

28 “But what ^G5101 do you think ^G1380? A man ^G444 had ^G2192 two ^G1417 sons ^G5043, and he came ^G4334 to the first ^G4413 and said ^G3004, ‘Son ^G5043, go ^G5217 work ^G2038 today ^G4594 in the vineyard ^G290.’

29 And he answered ^G611 and said ^G3004, ‘I will not’; but afterward ^G5305 he regretted ^G3338 it and went ^G565. 30 And the man came ^G4334 to the second ^G1208 and said ^G3004 the same ^G5615 thing ^G5615; and he answered ^G611 and said ^G3004, ‘I will, sir ^G2962’; but he did not go ^G565. 31 Which ^G5101 of the two ^G1417 did ^G4160 the will ^G2307 of his father ^G3962?” They *said ^G3004, “The first ^G4413.” Jesus ^G2424 *said ^G3004 to them, “Truly ^G281 I say ^G3004 to you that the tax ^G5057 collectors ^G5057 and prostitutes ^G4204 [fn]will get ^G4254 into the kingdom ^G932 of God ^G2316 before ^G4254 you. 32 For John ^G2491 came ^G2064 to you in the way ^G3598 of righteousness ^G1343 and you did not believe ^G4100 him; but the tax ^G5057 collectors ^G5057 and prostitutes ^G4204 did believe ^G4100 him; and you, seeing ^G3708 this, did not even ^G3761 regret ^G3338 afterward ^G5305 so as to believe ^G4100 him.

Parable of the Vine-Growers

33 “Listen ^G191 to another ^G243 parable ^G3850. There was a [fn]landowner ^G3617 who ^G3748 PLANTED ^G5452 A VINEYARD ^G290 AND PUT ^G4060 A [fn]WALL ^G5418 AROUND ^G4060 IT AND DUG ^G3736 A WINE ^G3025 PRESS ^G3025 IN IT, AND BUILT ^G3618 A TOWER ^G4444, and rented ^G1554 it out to [fn]vine-growers ^G1092 and went ^G589 on ^G589 a ^G589 journey ^G589.

34 Now when ^G3753 the [fn]harvest ^G2590 time ^G2540 approached ^G1448, he sent ^G649 his slaves ^G1401 to the vine-growers ^G1092 to receive ^G2983 his fruit ^G2590. 35 And the vine-growers ^G1092 took ^G2983 his slaves ^G1401 and beat ^G1194 one ^G3739, and killed ^G615 another ^G3739 G1161, and stoned ^G3036 a third ^G3739. 36 Again ^G3825 he sent ^G649 another ^G243 group of slaves ^G1401 larger ^G4183 than the first ^G4413; and they did ^G4160 the same ^G5615 thing ^G5615 to them. 37 But afterward ^G5305 he sent ^G649 his son ^G5207 to them, saying ^G3004, ‘They will respect ^G1788 my son ^G5207.’ 38 But when the vine-growers ^G1092 saw ^G3708 the son ^G5207, they said ^G3004 among ^G1722 themselves ^G1438, ‘This ^G3778 is the heir ^G2818; come ^G1205, let us kill ^G615 him and seize ^G2192 his inheritance ^G2817.’ 39 And they took ^G2983 him, and threw ^G1544 him out ^G1544 of the vineyard ^G290 and killed ^G615 him. 40 Therefore ^G3767 when ^G3752 the [fn]owner ^G2962 of the vineyard ^G290 comes ^G2064, what ^G5101 will he do ^G4160 to those ^G1565 vine-growers ^G1092?” 41 They *said ^G3004 to Him, “He will bring ^G622 those ^G846 wretches ^G2556 to a wretched ^G2560 end ^G622, and will rent ^G1554 out the vineyard ^G290 to other ^G243 vine-growers ^G1092 who ^G3748 will pay ^G591 him the proceeds ^G2590 at the proper seasons ^G2540.”

42 Jesus ^G2424 *said ^G3004 to them, “Did you never ^G3763 read ^G314 in the Scriptures ^G1124,

‘THE STONE ^G3037 WHICH ^G3739 THE BUILDERS ^G3618 REJECTED ^G593,

THIS ^G3778 BECAME ^G1096 THE CHIEF ^G2776 CORNER ^G1137 stone;

THIS ^G3778 CAME ^G1096 ABOUT FROM THE [fn]LORD ^G2962,

AND IT IS MARVELOUS ^G2298 IN OUR EYES ^G3788’?

43 Therefore ^G1223 G3778 I say ^G3004 to you, the kingdom ^G932 of God ^G2316 will be taken ^G142 away ^G142 from you and given ^G1325 to a nation ^G1484, producing ^G4160 the fruit ^G2590 of it. 44 And he who falls ^G4098 on this ^G3778 stone ^G3037 will be broken ^G4917 to ^G4917 pieces ^G4917; but on whomever ^G3739 G302 it falls ^G4098, it will scatter ^G3039 him like ^G3039 dust ^G3039.”

45 And when the chief ^G749 priests ^G749 and the Pharisees ^G5330 heard ^G191 His parables ^G3850, they understood ^G1097 that He *was speaking ^G3004 about ^G4012 them. 46 And although they were seeking ^G2212 to seize ^G2902 Him, they feared ^G5399 the crowds ^G3793, because ^G1893 they were regarding ^G2192 Him to be a prophet ^G4396.
